The valence shell photoelectron spectrum, threshold photoelectron spectrum, and threshold photoelectron photoion coincidence (TPEPICO) mass spectra of acetone have been measured using synchrotron radiation. New vibrational progressions have been observed and assigned in the X 2B2 state photoelectron bands of acetone-h6 and acetone-d6, and the influence of resonant autoionization on the threshold electron yield has been investigated. The dissociation thresholds for fragment ions up to 31 eV have been measured and compared to previous values. In addition, kinetic modeling of the threshold region for CH3* and CH4 loss leads to new values of 78 +/- 2 kJ mol(-1) and 75 +/- 2 kJ mol(-1), respectively, for the 0 K activation energies for these two processes. The result for the methyl loss channel is in reasonable agreement with, but slightly lower than, that of 83 +/- 1 kJ mol(-1) derived in a recent TPEPICO study by Fogleman et al. The modeling accounts for both low-energy dissociation channels at two different ion residence times in the mass spectrometer. Moreover, the effects of the ro-vibrational population distribution, the electron transmission efficiency, and the monochromator band-pass are included. The present activation energies yield a Delta(f)H298 for CH3CO+ of 655 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1), which is 4 kJ mol(-1) lower than that reported by Fogleman et al. The present Delta(f)H298 for CH3CO+ can be combined with the Delta(f)H298 for CH2CO (-47.5 +/- 1.6 kJ mol(-1)) and H+ (1530 kJ mol(-1)) to yield a 298 K proton affinity for ketene of 828 +/- 4 kJ mol(-1), in good agreement with the value (825 kJ mol(-1)) calculated at the G2 level of theory. The measured activation energy for CH4 loss leads to a Delta(f)H298 (CH2CO+*) of 873 +/- 3 kJ mol(-1).  相似文献

Changes in the Gibbs energy of hydration of molecular hydrogen and tetrahydrofuran (THF) at pressures of 0.1, 6.0, and 12.0 MPa over the temperature range 230–300 K were studied by the molecular dynamics method. The Gibbs energy of hydrogen in water-tetrahydrofuran-hydrogen solutions passed minima over the temperature range 235–265 K, which were indicative of a comparatively stable clathrate hydrate state. The Gibbs energy of the hydrogen molecule at the local minimum at 262 K was ∼4.5 kJ/mol; at atmospheric pressure and room temperature, it was ∼2 kJ/mol. An analysis of the radial distribution function and the coordination number of the THF molecule showed that, at 240–257 K, a clathrate hydrate of THF with the structure close to clathrate sII was predominantly formed.  相似文献

The structure and energetics of protonated p-benzoquinone (pBQ) have been investigated using high-pressure mass spectrometry and ab initio calculations. The experimental proton affinity of pBQ is 801.4 +/- 8.9 kJ/mol (191.5 +/- 2.1 kcal/mol) (1sigma) from bracketing measurements and hydration thermochemistry. This value is supported by theory and by analogies with related compounds. In its protonation chemistry, pBQ behaves as an aliphatic ketone, both structurally and energetically. The dissociation of the hydrate (pBQH(+)).(H(2)O) is characterized by DeltaH degrees (D) = 90.0 +/- 2.3 kJ/mol and DeltaS degrees (D) = 123.4 +/- 4.9 J/mol.K (95% confidence).  相似文献

The thermal stability of gamma-ray-induced methyl radicals in methane hydrate was studied using the ESR method at atmospheric pressure and 210-260 K. The methyl radical decay proceeded with the second-order reaction, and ethane molecules were generated from the dimerization process. The methyl radical decay proceeds by two different temperature-dependent processes, that is, the respective activation energies of these processes are 20.0 +/- 1.6 kJ/mol for the lower temperature region of 210-230 K and 54.8 +/- 5.7 kJ/mol for the higher temperature region of 235-260 K. The former agrees well with the enthalpy change of methane hydrate dissociation into ice and gaseous methane, while the latter agrees well with the enthalpy change into liquid water and gaseous methane. The present findings reveal that methane hydrates dissociate into liquid (supercooled) water and gaseous methane in the temperature range of 235-260 K.  相似文献

We report a thermodynamic study of the formation of tetrahydrofuran clathrate hydrate by explosive crystallization of water-deficient, near stoichiometric, and water-rich solutions, as well as of the heat capacity, C(p), of (i) supercooled tetrahydrofuran-H2O solutions and of the clathrate hydrate, (ii) tetrathydrofuran (THF) liquid, and (iii) supercooled water and the ice formed on its explosive crystallization. In explosive freezing of supercooled solutions at a temperature below 257 K, THF clathrate hydrate formed first. The nucleation temperature depends on the cooling rate, and excess water freezes on further cooling. The clathrate hydrate melts reversibly at 277 K and C(p) increases by 770 J/mol K on melting. The enthalpy of melting is 99.5 kJ/mol and entropy is 358 J/mol K. Molar C(p) of the empty host lattice is less than that of the ice, which is inconsistent with the known lower phonon frequency of H2O in the clathrate lattice. Analysis shows that C(p) of THF and ice are not additive in the clathrate. C(p) of the supercooled THF-H2O solutions is the same as that of water at 247 K, but less at lower temperatures and more at higher temperatures. The difference tends to become constant at 283 K. The results are discussed in terms of the hydrogen-bonding changes between THF and H2O.

Using the Gibbs function of reaction, equilibrium pressure, temperature conditions for the formation of methane clathrate hydrate have been calculated from the thermodynamic properties of phases in the system CH4-H2O. The thermodynamic model accurately reproduces the published phase-equilibria data to within +/-2 K of the observed equilibrium boundaries in the range 0.08-117 MPa and 190-307 K. The model also provides an estimate of the third-law entropy of methane hydrate at 273.15 K, 0.1 MPa of 56.2 J mol(-1) K(-1) for 1/nCH4.H2O, where n is the hydrate number. Agreement between the calculated and published phase-equilibria data is optimized when the hydrate composition is fixed and independent of the pressure and temperature for the conditions modeled.  相似文献

Pulsed NMR spectra of protons in polysilastyrene, $ \rlap{--} [{\rm Si(CH}_{\rm 3} {\rm )}_{\rm 2} {\rm  Si(CH}_{\rm 3} )({\rm C}_6 {\rm H}_5 )\rlap{--} ]_n $, with n ≈ 60, have been measured in the temperature range 80–450 K. The linewidth is constant at 7.4 G up to 200 K and narrows considerably above 250 K to a constant value of 0.3 G above 360 K. The motion responsible for this effect has an activation energy of 43.7 kJ/mol and is identified with the large-scale motion occurring in the vicinity of the glass transition temperature. The spin-lattice relaxation time T1 was measured by the π-t-½π pulse sequence as a function of temperature. Two motional minima in T1 were observed. The low-temperature motion has an activation energy of 3.7 kJ/mol and is identified with methyl group reorientation. The high-temperature motion has an activation energy of 29.1 kJ/mol and might be due to segmental motion.  相似文献

Computational studies of 12 64-electron homologues and isomers of tropolone in the S(0) electronic ground state are reported. Three minimum-energy structures, tropolone (Tp), 5-azatropolone (5Azt), and 5-H-5-azatropolonium (5AztH(+)), have an internal H-bond and planar C(s)) geometry, and three, tropolonate (TpO(-)), 5-azatropolonate (5AzO(-)), and 1-H-azepine-4,5-dione (45Di), lack the H-bond and have twisted C(2) geometry. All 6 substances have an equal double-minimum potential energy surface and a saddle point with planar C(2)(v) geometry. The energy for the gas-phase isomerization reaction 45Di --> 5Azt is near +4 kJ mol(-1) at the MP4(SDQ)/6-311++G(df,pd)//MP2/6-311++G(df,pd) (energy//geometry) theoretical level and around -20 kJ mol(-1) at lower theoretical levels. The dipole moments computed for 45Di and 5Azt are 9.6 and 2.1 D, respectively, and this large difference contributes to MO-computed free energies of solvation that strongly favor--as experimentally observed--45Di over 5Azt in chloroform solvent. The MO-computed energy for the gas-phase protonation reaction 45Di + H(+) --> 5AztH(+) is -956.4 kJ mol(-1), leading to 926.8 kJ mol(-1) as the estimated proton affinity for 45Di at 298 K and 1 atm. The intramolecular dynamical properties predicted for 5Azt and 5AztH(+) parallel those observed for tropolone. They are therefore expected to exhibit spectral tunneling doublets. Once they are synthesized, they should contribute importantly to the understanding of multidimensional intramolecular H transfer and dynamical coupling processes.  相似文献

Dissociative photoionization mass spectrometry has been used to measure appearance energies for the 1-hydroxyethyl cation (CH(3)CH=OH(+)) formed from ethanol and 2-propanol. Molecular orbital calculations for these two unimolecular fragmentation reactions suggest that only methyl loss from ionized 2-propanol does not involve excess energy at the threshold. The experimental appearance energy of 10.31 +/- 0.01 eV for this latter process results in a 298 K heat of formation of 593.1 +/- 1.2 kJ mol(-1) for CH(3)CH=OH(+) and a corresponding absolute proton affinity for acetaldehyde of 770.9 +/- 1.3 kJ mol(-1). This value is supported by both high-level ab initio calculations and a proposed upward revision of the absolute isobutene proton affinity to 803.3 +/- 0.9 kJ mol(-1). A 298 K heat of formation of 52.2 +/- 1.9 kJ mol(-1) is derived for the tert-butyl radical.  相似文献

Solid state dynamic properties have been investigated for the racemic (DL) and enantiomerically pure (L) crystalline forms of the amino acid serine [HO x CH2 x CH(NH3(+)) x CO2(-)] using 2H NMR line shape analysis and 2H NMR spin-lattice relaxation time measurements for samples of DL-serine and L-serine deuterated in the NH3(+) and OH groups. 2H NMR line shape analysis indicates that, for both L-serine and DL-serine, the ND3(+) group undergoes a 3-site 120 degrees jump motion, with jump frequencies in the intermediate motion regime (10(3) s(-1) to 10(8) s(-1)) in the temperature range 153-313 K. However, at a given temperature, the jump frequency is substantially higher for L-serine (e.g., at 233 K, the jump frequency is 5.0 x 10(6) s(-1) for L-serine and 6.0 x 10(4) s(-1) for DL-serine). The OD group is not dynamic on the 2H NMR time scale within the temperature range studied. The results from both 2H NMR line shape analysis (LA) and 2H NMR spin-lattice relaxation time measurements (SLR) indicate that the activation energy for the 3-site 120 degree jump motion of the ND3(+) group is significantly higher for DL-serine [38.0 +/- 1.0 kJ mol(-1) (LA); 39.7 +/- 0.8 kJ mol(-1) (SLR)] than for L-serine [23.4 +/- 0.8 kJ mol(-1) (LA); 23.8 +/- 0.3 kJ mol(-1) (SLR)]. The difference in activation energies between DL-serine and L-serine is substantially greater than any reported previously for an amino acid in different crystal forms.  相似文献

H/D isotopic exchange between H(2)O and D(2)O molecules was studied at the surface of ice films at 90-140 K by the technique of Cs(+) reactive ion scattering. Ice films were deposited on a Ru(0001) substrate in different compositions of H(2)O and D(2)O and in various structures to study the kinetics of isotopic exchange. H/D exchange was very slow on an ice film at 95-100 K, even when H(2)O and D(2)O were uniformly mixed in the film. At 140 K, H/D exchange occurred in a time scale of several minutes on the uniform mixture film. Kinetic measurement gave the rate coefficient for the exchange reaction, k(140 K)=1.6(+/-0.3) x 10(-19) cm(2) molecule(-1) s(-1) and k(100 K)< or =5.7(+/-0.5) x 10(-21) cm(2) molecule(-1) s(-1) and the Arrhenius activation energy, E(a)> or =9.8 kJ mol(-1). Addition of HCl on the film to provide excess protons greatly accelerated the isotopic exchange reaction such that it went to completion very quickly at the surface. The rapid reaction, however, was confined within the first bilayer (BL) of the surface and did not readily propagate to the underlying sublayer. The isotopic exchange in the vertical direction was almost completely blocked at 95 K, and it slowly occurred only to a depth of 3 BLs from the surface at 140 K. Thus, the proton transfer was highly directional. The lateral proton transfer at the surface was attributed to the increased mobility of protonic defects at the molecularly disordered and activated surface. The slow, vertical proton transfer was probably assisted by self-diffusion of water molecules.  相似文献

Abstract—
After UV irradiation of rapidly frozen solutions of N, N, N', N' -tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in dilute aqueous micellar cetyltrimethylammonium bromide at 80 K, the ESR signal corresponding to the TMB+ cation was detected indicating photoionization. This signal was monitored as a function of time at various temperatures between 80 K and 260 K. On a timescale of a few days the signal decayed to a plateau value that was stable for months. Two distinct second-order processes for the decay from the initial to the plateau value were observed: one prevailing at low temperatures with an activation energy of 0.6 kJ/mol, and one prevailing at T > 220 K with an activation energy of 13 kJ/mol. By means of spin probe investigations the latter process was shown to be connected with a local softening of the region adjacent to the micellar surface.  相似文献

The thermochemical properties of benzoylnitrene radical anion, C6H5CON-, were determined by using a combination of energy-resolved collision-induced dissociation (CID) and proton affinity bracketing. Benzoylnitrene radical anion dissociates upon CID to give NCO- and phenyl radical with a dissociation enthalpy of 0.85 +/- 0.09 eV, which is used to derive an enthalpy of formation of 33 +/- 9 kJ/mol for the nitrene radical anion. Bracketing studies with the anion indicate a proton affinity of 1453 +/- 10 kJ/mol, indicating that the acidity of benzamidyl radical, C6H5CONH, is between those of benzamide and benzoic acid. Combining the measurements gives an enthalpy of formation for benzamidyl radical of 110 +/- 14 kJ/mol and a homolytic N-H bond dissociation energy in benzamide of 429 +/- 14 kJ/mol. Additional thermochemical properties obtained include the electron affinity of benzamidyl radical, the hydrogen atom affinity of benzoylnitrene radical anion, and the oxygen anion affinity of benzonitrile.  相似文献

The sequential ethene (C2H4) loss channels of energy-selected ethylphosphine ions have been studied using threshold photoelectron photoion coincidence (TPEPICO) spectroscopy in which ion time-of-flight (TOF) distributions are recorded as a function of the photon energy. The ion TOF distributions and breakdown diagrams have been modeled in terms of the statistical RRKM theory for unimolecular reactions, providing 0 K dissociation onsets, E0, for the ethene loss channels. Three RRKM curves were used to model the five measurements, since two of the reactions differ only by the internal energy of the parent ion. This series of dissociations provides a detailed check of the calculation of the product energy distribution for sequential reactions. From the determined E0's, the heats of formation of several ethylphosphine neutrals and ions have been determined: Delta(f)H degrees 298K[P(C(2)H(5))3] = -152.7 +/- 2.8 kJ/mol, Delta(f)H degrees 298K[P(C(2)H(5))3+] = 571.6 +/- 4.0 kJ/mol, Delta(f)H degrees 298K[HP(C(2)H(5))2] = -89.6 +/- 2.1 kJ/mol, Delta(f)H degrees 298K[HP(C(2)H(5))2+] = 669.9 +/- 2.5 kJ/mol, Delta(f)H degrees 298K[H(2)PC(2)H(5)] = -36.5 +/- 1.5 kJ/mol, Delta(f)H degrees 298K[H(2)PC(2)H(5)+] = 784.0 +/- 1.9 kJ/mol. These values have been supported by G2 and G3 calculations using isodesmic reactions. Coupled cluster calculations have been used to show that the C2H4 loss channel, which involves a hydrogen transfer step, proceeds without a reverse energy barrier.  相似文献

NH(4)(C(6)H(5))(4)B represents a prototypical system for understanding aromatic H bonds. In NH(4)(C(6)H(5))(4)B an ammonium cation is trapped in an aromatic cage of four phenyl rings and each phenyl ring serves as a hydrogen bond acceptor for the ammonium ion as donor. Here the dynamical properties of the aromatic hydrogen bond in NH(4)(C(6)H(5))(4)B were studied by quasielastic incoherent neutron scattering in a broad temperature range (20< or =T< or =350 K). We show that in the temperature range from 67 to 350 K the ammonium ions perform rotational jumps around C(3) axes. The correlation time for this motion is the lifetime of the "transient" H bonds. It varies from 1.5 ps at T=350 K to 150 ps at T=67 K. The activation energy was found to be 3.14 kJ mol, which means only 1.05 kJ mol per single H bond for reorientations around the C(3) symmetry axis of the ammonium group. This result shows that the ammonium ions have to overcome an exceptionally low barrier to rotate and thereby break their H bonds. In addition, at temperatures above 200 K local diffusive reorientational motions of the phenyl rings, probably caused by interaction with ammonium-group reorientations, were found within the experimental observation time window. At room temperature a reorientation angle of 8.4 degrees +/-2 degrees and a correlation time of 22+/-8 ps were determined for the latter. The aromatic H bonds are extremely short lived due to the low potential barriers allowing for molecular motions with a reorientational character of the donors. The alternating rupture and formation of H bonds causes very strong damping of the librational motion of the acceptors, making the transient H bond appear rather flexible.  相似文献

We studied diffusion of water molecules in the direction perpendicular to the surface of an ice film. Amorphous ice films of H(2)O were deposited on Ru(0001) at temperature of 100-140 K for thickness of 1-5 bilayer (BL) in vacuum, and a fractional coverage of D(2)O was added onto the surface. Vertical migration of surface D(2)O molecules to the underlying H(2)O multilayer and the reverse migration of H(2)O resulted in change of their surface concentrations. Temporal variation of the H(2)O and D(2)O surface concentrations was monitored by the technique of Cs(+) reactive ion scattering to reveal kinetics of the vertical diffusion in depth resolution of 1 BL. The first-order rate coefficient for the migration of surface water molecules ranged from k(1)=5.7(+/-0.6) x 10(-4) s(-1) at T=100 K to k(1)=6.7(+/-2.0) x 10(-2) s(-1) at 140 K, with an activation energy of 13.7+/-1.7 kJ mol(-1). The equivalent surface diffusion coefficients were D(s)=7 x 10(-19) cm(2) s(-1) at 100 K and D(s)=8 x 10(-17) cm(2) s(-1) at 140 K. The measured activation energy was close to interstitial migration energy (15 kJ mol(-1)) and was much lower than diffusion activation energy in bulk ice (52-70 kJ mol(-1)). The result suggested that water molecules diffused via the interstitial mechanism near the surface where defect concentrations were very high.  相似文献

An optical anisotropy decay technique for measuring probe rotational times in glassy materials is presented. Rotational times from 10(1.4) to 10(5) s have been obtained for a molecule of 1-naphthyl-azomethoxybenzene (NAMB) in o-terphenyl (OTP) over a temperature range from T(g) +3.5 to T(g) -16.5 K. The rotational diffusion follows the temperature dependence of Debye-Stokes-Einstein down to T(g) -4 K with an activation energy of 320 +/- 30 kJ/mol. Below T(g) -9 K, the temperature dependence of rotation mobility was found to be much weaker with an activation energy of 70 +/- 15 kJ/mol.  相似文献

The 0 K dissociative ionization onsets of C2H3X --> C2H3(+) + X (X = Cl, I) are measured by threshold photoelectron-photoion coincidence spectroscopy. The heats of formation of C2H3Cl (Delta H(f,0K)(0) = 30.2 +/- 3.2 kJ mol(-1) and Delta(H f,298K)(0) = 22.6 +/- 3.2 kJ mol(-1)) and C2H3I (Delta(H f,0K)(0) = 140.2 +/- 3.2 kJ mol(-1) and Delta(H f,298K)(0) = 131.2 +/- 3.2 kJ mol(-1)) and C- X bond dissociation enthalpies as well as those of their ions are determined. The data help resolve a longstanding discrepancy among experimental values of the vinyl chloride heat of formation, which now agrees with the latest theoretical determination. The reported vinyl iodide heat of formation is the first reliable experimental determination. Additionally, the adiabatic ionization energy of C2H3I (9.32 +/- 0.01 eV) is measured by threshold photoelectron spectroscopy.  相似文献

A laser flash photolysis-resonance fluorescence technique has been employed to study the kinetics of the reaction of atomic chlorine with pyridine (C(5)H(5)N) as a function of temperature (215-435 K) and pressure (25-250 Torr) in nitrogen bath gas. At T> or = 299 K, measured rate coefficients are pressure independent and a significant H/D kinetic isotope effect is observed, suggesting that hydrogen abstraction is the dominant reaction pathway. The following Arrhenius expression adequately describes all kinetic data at 299-435 K for C(5)H(5)N: k(1a) = (2.08 +/- 0.47) x 10(-11) exp[-(1410 +/- 80)/T] cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1) (uncertainties are 2sigma, precision only). At 216 K < or =T< or = 270 K, measured rate coefficients are pressure dependent and are much faster than computed from the above Arrhenius expression for the H-abstraction pathway, suggesting that the dominant reaction pathway at low temperature is formation of a stable adduct. Over the ranges of temperature, pressure, and pyridine concentration investigated, the adduct undergoes dissociation on the time scale of our experiments (10(-5)-10(-2) s) and establishes an equilibrium with Cl and pyridine. Equilibrium constants for adduct formation and dissociation are determined from the forward and reverse rate coefficients. Second- and third-law analyses of the equilibrium data lead to the following thermochemical parameters for the addition reaction: Delta(r)H = -47.2 +/- 2.8 kJ mol(-1), Delta(r)H = -46.7 +/- 3.2 kJ mol(-1), and Delta(r)S = -98.7 +/- 6.5 J mol(-1) K(-1). The enthalpy changes derived from our data are in good agreement with ab initio calculations reported in the literature (which suggest that the adduct structure is planar and involves formation of an N-Cl sigma-bond). In conjunction with the well-known heats of formation of atomic chlorine and pyridine, the above Delta(r)H values lead to the following heats of formation for C(5)H(5)N-Cl at 298 K and 0 K: Delta(f)H = 216.0 +/- 4.1 kJ mol(-1), Delta(f)H = 233.4 +/- 4.6 kJ mol(-1). Addition of Cl to pyridine could be an important atmospheric loss process for pyridine if the C(5)H(5)N-Cl product is chemically degraded by processes that do not regenerate pyridine with high yield.  相似文献
