Gross-alpha and gross-beta activities of fourteen taps and wells, four lakes and three drinking water supplies in Elazi (Turkey) were determined. The results obtained indicate that although the natural radioactivity of six tap, two drinking, four lake and three well water samples does not exceed the requirements of the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, however, most of them do exceed those of the Institution of Turkish Standards (ITS). Concentrations ranging from 0.02 to 0.17 Bq.l-1 and from 0.01 to 0.29 Bq.l-1 for gross-alpha and gross-beta radioactivity, respectively, were observed in all samples. For most of the samples, there were no regular correspondence between gross-alpha and gross-beta activity concentrations.  相似文献

The aim of the study is to present the results of determination of radioactivity of artificial 137Cs and natural 40K and certain heavy metals in soil samples collected from the eastern part of the Main Ridge of Carpathians, including the Beskid Niski Mts and the Bieszczady Mts. The evaluation of level of radionuclides was based on the bulk density analysis of the soil. A valuable finding of the study was a good linear correlation between the level of 137Cs concentration and bulk density of the soil as well as an inverse correlation between radioactivity of natural 40K and tested soil density. This might indicate though a high competitiveness of these elements between each other. Moreover, a good correlation between the concentrations of artificial element 137Cs and Pb has been also observed in soil samples collected from the Beskid Niski Mts. In most cases, the level of artificial 137Cs was lower comparing to an average 137Cs concentration established for soils in Poland.  相似文献

Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) have been used for the determination of toxic heavy metals and other pollutants in the water of the Das Velhas river in the State of Minas Gerais, in south-east Brazil. Elemental concentrations of about 60 elements were measured in water samples collected to different parts of this river and from two affluents. There was a good agreement between the two analytical methods and the results were complementary. The results indicated an increase in the concentration of several polluting elements in the water from mining industry area.  相似文献

Concentrations of trace elements in some drinking waters were determined using the X-ray emission spectroscopy. Water samples were collected near Rijeka, the most industrialized centre in the northern part of the Yugoslav coast, to find out if concentration of heavy metals in water are within permitted limits. Since concentrations of heavy metals in natural water are quite low, it was necessary to preconcentrate the water before the analysis. Two techniques of water samples preparation were used depending on the elements to be analyzed: precipitation by the APDC (amonium-pyrrolydine-dithiocarbamate) (for Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Pb and Hg). complexation with the APDC followed by the adsorption on activated carbon (for U).  相似文献

Concentrations of heavy metals and natural radionuclides in soil around a major coal-fired power plant of Xi’an, China were determined by using XRF and gamma ray spectrometry, respectively. The measured results of heavy metals show that the mean concentrations of Cu, Pb, Zn, Co and Cr in the studied soil samples are higher than their corresponding background values in Shaanxi soil, while the mean concentrations of Mn, Ni and V are close to the corresponding background values. The calculated results of pollution load index of heavy metals indicate that the studied soils presented heavy metal contamination. The concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in the studied soil samples range from 27.6 to 48.8, 44.4 to 61.4 and 640.2 to 992.2 Bq kg?1 with an average of 36.1, 51.1 and 733.9 Bq kg?1, respectively, which are slightly higher than the average of Shaanxi soil. The air absorbed dose rate and the annual effective dose equivalent received by the local residents due to the natural radionuclides in soil are slightly higher than the mean values of Shaanxi. Coal combustion for energy production has affected the natural radioactivity level and heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn, Co and Cr) concentrations of soil around the coal-fired power plant.  相似文献

Abstract

In this study some heavy metal uptake in mushroom species, their metal content in soil substrate and the relation in between metal concentration in mushroom and soil were investigated. Mushroom species and soil in which mushroom species were grown were collected from Tokat region of Turkey. Six different mushroom species and their underlying soil (0–10 cm layer) samples were analyzed for some heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Fe, Zn, Cd, Mn, Ni, Cr and Co). The analysis was performed with an atomic absorption spectrometer. The results indicate that in general, heavy metal contents in all mushroom species were lower than the underlying soil substrates except for some mushroom species. The results obtained from the analyses of mushroom and underlying soil samples were evaluated using linear correlation analysis and concentration factors to identify the metal accumulation of mushrooms.  相似文献

The conditions to measure the gross alpha and gross beta radioactivity in water samples from Zacatecas and Guadalupe cities in the State of Zacatecas, Mexico were established. The gross alpha and beta radioactivity of water samples were measured using a liquid scintillation detector. The results show that the gross beta radioactivity in all cases is lower than the maximum contaminant level and the gross alpha radioactivity is higher in the samples collected from Guadalupe City and in the samples collected from the Southwest of Zacatecas City.  相似文献

The environmental and health hazards posed by heavy metals are significant due to their toxicity and bioavailability. Thirty-two soil samples were collected from residential areas around three coal mines and a power plant to assess the environmental and health implications caused by mining activities. The concentrations of heavy metals in soil were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. To evaluate the risk levels, the geo-accumulation index and health risk assessment were determined. The concentrations of metals in power plant soil were generally higher than those in coal mine soil, suggesting a higher release during coal combustion. The results demonstrate that the soils in the vicinity of Xinzhuangzi Mine and Luohe Power Plant are moderately contaminated by arsenic and cadmium. The analysis of the health risk of the metals indicated that the non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic adverse effects to residents due to heavy metal exposure are negligible. However, more attention should be paid around the power plant for the unacceptable level of carcinogenic risk. Based on the results of the environmental and health risk assessment, priority control components in Huaian have been identified. The study provides a comprehensive assessment of soil heavy metal implications derived from mining activity in this region in China and is helpful for pollution control and environmental management.  相似文献

A preliminary study, based particularly on Arsenic and some heavy metals determination (Cd, Cr, Hg and Pb) in three leachate tipologies produced from municipal waste landfill plant, lab-scale aerobic landfill, lab-scale anerobic landfill was undertaken. Leachate was collected and analysed monthly; samples were homogenized and then, all heavy metals were determined after mineralization, except for Hg, determined before mineralization, due to his high volatility. In all samples pH was measured. In general we can say that low concentrations of the elements analyzed were found in all kinds of landfills considered; in particular, in the lab-scale anaerobic reactors, where low pH values have been found, we have a more considerable mobilization of As and the others heavy metals, moreover due to the behaviour of these elements.  相似文献

Plant samples (Plantago lanceolata - narrow leaf plantain and Cichorium endiviae - endive) were collected in the surroundings of heavy metal emission sources and in other less contaminated areas. After digestion in a closed microwave system using HNO(3), the concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, and Zn were determined using ICP-AES. Detection limits for all the elements of interest are given. Differences in heavy metal uptake rate between both plant species were observed. The uptake is more intensive for endive than for narrow leaf plantain. High concentrations of some heavy metals were determined in the unwashed plant samples as a result of exposure to aerosols. Tukey's statistical test was used to confirm the discrepancy of Cr concentration in plant samples from various areas. Washing the leaves with water was found to remove a large amount of water-soluble aerosols.  相似文献

Instrumental neutron activation analysis has been applied for the analysis of four sewage sludges of municpal water treatment plants, one sludge of an industrial water treatment plant one compost of a municipal compostation plant in Belgium. This pilot study showed that concentrations for 41 elements could be obtained. Tests for homogeneity and accuracy indicated the necessity of a thorough grinding and homogenization of the samples before analysis. The concentrations obtained were compared with the mean soil composition and the possible enrichment of heavy metals in the soil calculated when the materials are used as a manure to agricultural land. The Zn concentration is mostly the limiting factor for the agricultural application.  相似文献

The conditions to measure the gross alpha and gross beta radioactivity in water samples from the surrounding of the Nuclear Center (Instituto Nacional Investigaciones Nucleares, (ININ), and Collection, Treatment and Storage Center for Low Level Radioactive Waste (Maquixco) in the State of Mexico were established. The samples were collected from 1987 to 1996. The gross alpha and gross beta radioactivity in the samples were determined by a gas-flow proportional counter. The results indicated that the gross alpha and gross beta radioactive contamination in water samples were below the maximum contaminant level (MCL).  相似文献

Alga as Achnanthes minutissima among diatoms is a widely adaptable taxon on the state of an aquatic environment. In this study, it was found that diatom had a specific tolerance to heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb, and Cd etc.) in river water samples, because the diatom assemblage consisted of almost only Achnanthes minutissima in Kakehashi river and Godani river, which were polluted with waste water from Ogoya copper mine. The relationship between the concentrations of heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd) in river water and the attached substances (algae and silt etc.) and the relative abundances of diatom taxa were investigated in detail. The results indicated that the higher is the concentration of heavy metals in the river environment, the higher is only the relative abundances of Achnanthes minutissima. Thus, the taxon can be used as a bioindicator of heavy metal pollution. The relative rates of toxic chemical forms of copper in algae were 61 - 92% in the attached substances and 49-70% in the sediment on the river bed, respectively. Therefore, it was found that diatom as Achnanthes minutissima had a tolerance to heavy metals in river water, being able to live in such an environment. Since the water treated with calcium hydroxide from the deposition reservoir of Ogoya mine enters in Godani river, the river is polluted by heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd etc.). From the viewpoint of both biological and chemical analyses, Godani river is still polluted with heavy metals, because their concentrations in the river samples were very high. On the other hand, in Kakehashi river, the concentrations of heavy metals were very low and the distributions of some diatoms appeared in an unpolluted Nishimata river were observed. Therefore, Kakehashi river seems to be considerably recovered from heavy-metal pollution after closing the Ogoya mine.  相似文献

The concentrations of heavy metals in the soil, mushroom and plant samples collected from Tokat, Turkey have been determined by flame and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after dry ashing, wet ashing and microwave digestion. The study of sample preparation procedures showed that the microwave digestion method was the best. Good accuracy was assured by the analysis of standard reference materials. The relative standard deviations for all measured metal concentrations were lower than 10%. In all cases, quantitative analytical recoveries ranging from 95 to 103% were obtained. Metal accumulation factors were calculated for mushroom and plant samples. High ratio of plants to soil cadmium, zinc and copper concentrations indicate that these elements are accumulated by mushrooms. Results obtained are in agreement with data reported in the literature.  相似文献

The water moss Fontinalis antipyretica has been investigated to estimate heavy metal pollution in the river Elbe (middle Germany). Procedures of plant separation, digestion as well as an analytical method for ICP-MS analyses have been evaluated. Reproducibility and accuracy have been demonstrated on BCR 61 (NIST) reference material and results have been compared with AAS and AES data. The distribution of heavy metals in different plant segments of indigenous material has been analyzed. Exposition of plant material in the river Elbe have shown no correlation between the heavy metal content in plants and that of water samples. Cd and Zn concentrations found in the plant material are significantly enriched relatively to control samples. To understand the sophisticated ‘real system’ experiments have been carried out under laboratory conditions to investigate induced sulphur-rich compounds in the presence of heavy metals using HPLC including on-line derivatization.  相似文献

Rain water samples collected at three different locations in Italy during 1999 were analysed for heavy metals determination. Results for V, Cr, Mn, Co, Cu, Cd, Sb, Pb, Al and Ni are reported in this paper. For most of the elements higher concentration values have been measured in the samples from Alpe Gera (rural site): only for Cd and V were the concentrations higher at Pisa. The total annual deposition (microg m(-2) y(-1)) shows a similar behaviour, with Alpe Gera being the location with highest total annual input for Cr, Mn, Co, and in particular for Cu, Sb, Pb and Al. The reason of the higher deposition at a rural site in comparison to a urban one (Milan) is not known: further experimental work and investigations are needed. Generally, no evident seasonal trends have been observed for the measured concentrations, while few correlations have been found among elements within the same station. Crustal contribution to total concentration varies from about 20% for V to less than 1% for Cu, Cd, Sb, Pb and Ni.  相似文献

Abstract

Mercury, cadmium and lead levels in water, sediment and fish samples from Izmit Bay, Turkey have been determined. Sampling and analysis methods are described. Variations of heavy metal concentrations from different sampling stations are discussed. Results indicate that the levels of mercury and cadmium were highest in the vicinity of a chlor-alkali plant while the highest concentration of lead was near a metallic pipe factory. The amounts of heavy metals found in the shoreline sediment samples were similar to those found in fish species from the bay.  相似文献

The sorption of manganese(II) and zinc(II) on soil samples collected from Sapporo (Japan) and Tiksi (Russia) was investigated using a radiotracer technique to elucidate the abilities of soil organic matter as a scavenger of heavy metals released to the soil environment. The sorbed amounts of both manganese and zinc metals to organic soil components were estimated to be different on different soils, depending on the pH of aqueous phase. The degree of humification of pertinent soils was suggested as a parameter which could describe the properties of the organic soil matter in complexing with heavy metals.  相似文献

The level of soil pollution in the areas of manganese slug dumps from ferroalloy production has been estimated on the basis of heavy metal content of soils and response of test plants. The concentrations of heavy metals in soils have been determined, the corresponding hazard factors have been calculated, and the toxicity level of soils has been assessed. Such studies make it possible to simultaneously judge the amount of toxicants (namely heavy metals) in soils and evaluate the level of soil toxicity by the response of biological species used in biotesting.  相似文献

In the present study, three-step Community Bureau of Reference sequential extraction scheme (BCR-SES) and single extraction methods were performed to assess the mobility and availability of heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, Fe and Zn) in an agricultural soil before and after amendment with poultry waste (PW).The PW samples were collected from poultry farms, situated in Hyderabad Sindh, Pakistan. The extractable heavy metals were measured by flame and electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. The validation of the method was carried out by analysis of a certified reference material of soil amended with sewage sludge (BCR-483). The single extractions using calcium chloride and EDTA, separately, while BCR-SESs were developed to evaluate the available heavy metals to plants and their environmental accessibility for control soil (CS), PW and soil amended with PW (SPW).The pH of the PW and SPW were found to be < 6.0, which may enhance the leaching of heavy metals to agricultural soil. The results from the partitioning study indicated that easily mobilised forms (acid exchangeable) of Cd were higher than other heavy metals. The oxidisable fractions of all heavy metals were dominant in PW and SPW as compared to found in CS samples. The EDTA- and CaCl2-extractable heavy metals correspond to 5.0 to 10 and 0.5 to 3.0%, respectively of total contents in all three solid samples. Contamination factors revealed that the retention of Pb and Zn were higher compared with Cu, Cd and Fe in CS, PW and SPW samples.  相似文献
