Summary In this paper we study, in the framework of Sobolev weight spaces, differential operators of elliptic type, with singular coefficients, perturbed by a potential. Conditions for compactness of embedding W _s,σ ^r,p (Ω)↪W _s,0 ^0,p (Ω)=L _s ^p (Ω) for density ofD(Ω) on W _s,σ ^r,p (Ω) and discretness conditions for the spectrum of A_σ in the Banach spaces L _s ^p (Ω), have been established.

Summary We give some characterizations of noetherian domains A such that ? every irreducible element generates a primary ideal ?. This condition, called (α)-property, is equivalent to the unique factorization if A is normal or a polynomial ring A=B[T]. If A is a1-dimensional k-algebra, the property (α) is equivalent to the vanishing of some Picard groups asPicA,Pic (A[T, T⁻¹]),Pic (A|T|_s), where S={Tⁿ, n εZ}. We give not trivial examples of (α)-rings which aren’t factorial.

Topologie di caratteri per moduli su anelli Noetheriani

Riassunto Si determinano i rapporti sussistenti fra le topologie di caratteri e leE-compattificazioni dei moduli sopra un anello noetheriano; si considerano, in particolare, lel-compattificazioni (=E-compattificazioni linearmente compatte) e le compatti-ficazioni lineari. Si stabiliscono delle condizioni necessarie e sufficienti affinchè la topologia Ω-adica sia una topologia di caratteri.

Summary We determine the relations between the topologies induced by modules of characters and theE-compactifications for modules over noetherian rings; we consider, in particular, thel-compactifications (=E-compactifications which are linearly compact) and the linear compactifications. We state some necessary and sufficient conditions so that the Ω-adic topology is a topology induced by a module of characters.

Uniform harmonic approximation with continuous extension to the boundary

Let Ω be an open set in ℝ ⁿ andE be a relatively closed subset of Ω. Further, letC _e(E) be the collection of real-valued continuous functions onE which extend continuously to the closure ofE in ℝ ⁿ . We characterize those pairs (Ω,E) which have the following property: every function inC _e(E) which is harmonic onE ⁰ can be uniformly approximated onE by functions which are harmonic on Ω and whose restrictions toE belong toC _e(E).     

Sulle equazioni ellittiche del secondo ordine a coefficienti continui

Summary It is considered a linear second order uniformly elliptic partial differential equation, where coefficients of second derivatives are supposed uniformly continuous and the other ones belong to suitable L_p classes. I prove some result about existence and uniqueness of the solution of the Dirichlet problem in the space H²(Ω) ∩ H ₀ ¹ (Ω).

Sistemi ellittici di tipo A.D.N. a coefficienti variabili e condizioni di radiazione

Summary I study an elliptic system, in the sense of Agmon-Douglis-Nirenberg, of partial differential equations with variable coefficients. The matrix operator is of type P(D) + + λR(x, D) where λ εC, P(D) has constant coefficients, is elliptic, and his determinant admits a special elementary solution. On the coefficients in R(x, D), sufficiently smooth, a certain behaviour at the infinity is assumed. For suitable known vectors f, the problem P(D)u - λR(x, D)u=f is shown to be equivalent to a system of singular integral equations in special subspaces of [W^l,p]^N, if N is the rank of the system, as is studied in [5]. This is possible when the unknown vector u belongs to a class that, generally, is stricter than the one of existence and uniquencess for P(D) [4]. Then results on the solvability of the system follow when λ is such that P(D+λR(x, D) is elliptic.

Summary This paper is concerned with estimates of the minimal number of generators for maximal idealsM in the polynomial ringR[X ₁, …,X _n] (R an integral domain) such thatM⊃R=0. In particular it is proved that ifn≥2 andR is a 1-dimensionalS-domain, every such maximal ideal can be generated byn elements.

Summary The purpose of the present paper is to prove the following theorem: Let Ω be an oval in the projective plane P of odd order n. If P admits a collineation group G wich maps Ω onto itself and is doubly transitive on Ω, then P is desarguesian, Ω is a conic and G contains all collineations in the little projective group PSL(2, n) of P wich leaves Ω invariant.

Spectral stability of the Robin Laplacian

We consider the Robin Laplacian in two bounded regions Ω₁ and Ω₂ of ℝ ^N with Lipschitz boundaries and such that Ω₂ ⊂ Ω₁, and we obtain two-sided estimates for the eigenvalues λ _n,2 of the Robin Laplacian in Ω₂ via the eigenvalues λ _{n, 1} of the Robin Laplacian in Ω₁. Our estimates depend on the measure of the set difference Ω\Ω₂ and on suitably defined characteristics of vicinity of the boundaries ∂Ω₁ and ∂Ω₂, and of the functions defined on ∂Ω₁ and on ∂Ω₂ that enter the Robin boundary conditions.

On the Oka principle in a Banach space,II

 Let X be one of the Banach spaces c ₀ , ℓ _p , 1≤p<∞; Ω⊂X pseudoconvex open, a holomorphic Banach vector bundle with a Banach Lie group G ^* for structure group. We show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G ^* (which we also prove for G ^* a solvable Lie group) implies the vanishing of the sheaf cohomology groups H ^q (Ω, 𝒪 ^E ), q≥1, with coefficients in the sheaf of germs of holomorphic sections of E. Further, letting 𝒪^Γ (𝒞^Γ) be the sheaf of germs of holomorphic (continuous) sections of a Banach Lie group bundle Γ→Ω with Banach Lie groups G, G ^* for fiber group and structure group, we show that a suitable Runge-type approximation hypothesis on X, G, G ^* (which we prove again for G, G ^* solvable Lie groups) implies the injectivity (and for X=ℓ₁ also the surjectivity) of the Grauert–Oka map H ¹ (Ω, 𝒪^Γ)→H ¹ (Ω, 𝒞^Γ) of multiplicative cohomology sets. Summary Let : XY be an étale double covering, where Y is a K3 surface and X a smooth Enriques' surface; by interchanging the sheets of Y carries an involution i of order two. The main result of this note is the equivalence of the following conditions: 1) Y is the base locus of a net of (special) quadrics of P⁵ and the involution i extends to a projective one inP ⁵; 2) X contains a net of irreducible non hyperelliptic curves of arithmetic genusp _a=3; 3) X contains two divisors D₁, D₂ such that p_a(D_i)=h⁰(D_i)=1, i=1, 2, (D₁, D₂)=2 and ¦D₁+D₂¦has no fixed, components.

Summary The following two theorems are proved in general relativity for an elastic body, &, that is capable of couple stress but not of heat conduction: a) Gravitation equations hold if and only if the variation σ_gI of a certain integral, I, vanishes for certain variations of space-time metric, and b) Conservation equations hold if and only if the variation of I vanishes for certain variations of the motion of &. In the absence of couple stress the above theorems were already known.

Proprietà spettrali di una classe di operatori quasi ellittici

Riassunto In questo lavoro ci occupiamo di problemi al contorno per una classe di operatori lineari quasi ellittici del tipoA+σ, dove σ è una perturbazione assegnata; proviamo che l'operatore associato al problema è di Fredholm con indice zero e studiamo le proprietà spettrali dell'operatore associato al problema con condizioni al contorno omogenee.

Summary In this paper we study boundary value problems for linear quasi elliptic (A+σ)-type operators, where σ is an assigned perturbation; we prove that the related operator is a Fredholm operator whose index is zero. Then we study spectral properties of the operator related to the problem with homogeneous boundary conditions.

QuiM è un operatore ellittico in forma di divergenza, non degenere o degenere, come ilp-laplaciano o l’operatore di curvatura media.

We prove the existence of positives solutions for the quasilinear Dirichlet problemMu+f(u)=0 in Ω,u=0 on βΩ, were Ω is a bounded or unbounded open subset of ℝ ^N , satisfying suitable geometrical properties. HereM is a non degenerate or degenerate elliptic operator in divergence form, like thep-laplacian or the mean curvature operator.
