We present a new method for estimating the frontier of a multidimensional sample. The estimator is based on a kernel regression on the power-transformed data. We assume that the exponent of the transformation goes to infinity while the bandwidth of the kernel goes to zero. We give conditions on these two parameters to obtain complete convergence and asymptotic normality. The good performance of the estimator is illustrated on some finite sample situations.  相似文献

Estimation of a quadratic functional of a function observed in the Gaussian white noise model is considered. A data-dependent method for choosing the amount of smoothing is given. The method is based on comparing certain quadratic estimators with each other. It is shown that the method is asymptotically sharp or nearly sharp adaptive simultaneously for the “regular” and “irregular” region. We consider lp bodies and construct bounds for the risk of the estimator which show that for p=4 the estimator is exactly optimal and for example when p ∈[3,100], then the upper bound is at most 1.055 times larger than the lower bound. We show the connection of the estimator to the theory of optimal recovery. The estimator is a calibration of an estimator which is nearly minimax optimal among quadratic estimators. Li and Chen (J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 80 (1985) 759) proposed a method for principal components using projection-pursuit techniques. In classical principal components one searches for directions with maximal variance, and their approach consists of replacing this variance by a robust scale measure. Li and Chen showed that this estimator is consistent, qualitative robust and inherits the breakdown point of the robust scale estimator. We complete their study by deriving the influence function of the estimators for the eigenvectors, eigenvalues and the associated dispersion matrix. Corresponding Gaussian efficiencies are presented as well. Asymptotic normality of the estimators has been treated in a paper of Cui et al. (Biometrika 90 (2003) 953), complementing the results of this paper. Furthermore, a simple explicit version of the projection-pursuit based estimator is proposed and shown to be fast to compute, orthogonally equivariant, and having the maximal finite-sample breakdown point property. We will illustrate the method with a real data example.  相似文献

Semiparametric single-index regression involves an unknown finite-dimensional parameter and an unknown (link) function. We consider estimation of the parameter via the pseudo-maximum likelihood method. For this purpose we estimate the conditional density of the response given a candidate index and maximize the obtained likelihood. We show that this technique of adaptation yields an asymptotically efficient estimator: it has minimal variance among all estimators.  相似文献

In this paper we define a new nonlinear wavelet-based estimator of conditional density function for a random left truncation and right censoring model. We provide an asymptotic expression for the mean integrated squared error (MISE) of the estimator. It is assumed that the lifetime observations form a stationary α-mixing sequence. Unlike for kernel estimators, the MISE expression of the wavelet-based estimators is not affected by the presence of discontinuities in the curves. Also, asymptotic normality of the estimator is established.  相似文献

Local linear regression for functional predictor and scalar response   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The aim of this work is to introduce a new nonparametric regression technique in the context of functional covariate and scalar response. We propose a local linear regression estimator and study its asymptotic behaviour. Its finite-sample performance is compared with a Nadayara-Watson type kernel regression estimator and with the linear regression estimator via a Monte Carlo study and the analysis of two real data sets. In all the scenarios considered, the local linear regression estimator performs better than the kernel one, in the sense that the mean squared prediction error is lower.  相似文献

In this paper we consider the problem of estimating E[(YE[YX])2] based on a finite sample of independent, but not necessarily identically distributed, random variables . We analyze the theoretical properties of a recently developed estimator. It is shown that the estimator has many theoretically interesting properties, while the practical implementation is simple.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with estimating the coefficients in single-index models. We develop a robust estimator, which combines the ideas of rank-based regression inference and outer product of gradients. Both asymptotic and numerical results show that the proposed procedure has better performance than the least-squares-based method when the errors deviate from normal.  相似文献

We construct and investigate a consistent kernel-type nonparametric estimator of the intensity function of a cyclic Poisson process when the period is unknown. We do not assume any particular parametric form for the intensity function, nor do we even assume that it is continuous. Moreover, we consider the situation when only a single realization of the Poisson process is available, and only in a bounded window. We prove, in particular, that the proposed estimator is consistent when the size of the window indefinitely expands. We also obtain complete convergence of the estimator.  相似文献

For nonnegative measurements such as income or sick days, zero counts often have special status. Furthermore, the incidence of zero counts is often greater than expected for the Poisson model. This article considers a doubly semiparametric zero-inflated Poisson model to fit data of this type, which assumes two partially linear link functions in both the mean of the Poisson component and the probability of zero. We study a sieve maximum likelihood estimator for both the regression parameters and the nonparametric functions. We show, under routine conditions, that the estimators are strongly consistent. Moreover, the parameter estimators are asymptotically normal and first order efficient, while the nonparametric components achieve the optimal convergence rates. Simulation studies suggest that the extra flexibility inherent from the doubly semiparametric model is gained with little loss in statistical efficiency. We also illustrate our approach with a dataset from a public health study.  相似文献

The problem of optimal prediction in the stochastic linear regression model with infinitely many parameters is considered. We suggest a prediction method that outperforms asymptotically the ordinary least squares predictor. Moreover, if the random errors are Gaussian, the method is asymptotically minimax over ellipsoids in ?2. The method is based on a regularized least squares estimator with weights of the Pinsker filter. We also consider the case of dynamic linear regression, which is important in the context of transfer function modeling.  相似文献

The asymptotic distribution for the local linear estimator in nonparametric regression models is established under a general parametric error covariance with dependent and heterogeneously distributed regressors. A two-step estimation procedure that incorporates the parametric information in the error covariance matrix is proposed. Sufficient conditions for its asymptotic normality are given and its efficiency relative to the local linear estimator is established. We give examples of how our results are useful in some recently studied regression models. A Monte Carlo study confirms the asymptotic theory predictions and compares our estimator with some recently proposed alternative estimation procedures.  相似文献

Functional semiparametric partially linear model with autoregressive errors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we introduce a functional semiparametric model, where a real-valued random variable is explained by the sum of a unknown linear combination of the components of a multivariate random variable and an unknown transformation of a functional random variable. The errors can be autocorrelated. We focus here on the parametric estimation of the coefficients in the linear combination. First, we use a nonparametric kernel method to remove the effect of the functional explanatory variable. Then, we use generalized least squares approach to obtain an estimator of these coefficients. Under some technical assumptions, we prove consistency and asymptotic normality of our estimator. Finally, we present Monte Carlo simulations that illustrate these characteristics.  相似文献

We consider a panel data semiparametric partially linear regression model with an unknown vector β of regression coefficients, an unknown nonparametric function g(·) for nonlinear component, and unobservable serially correlated errors. The correlated errors are modeled by a vector autoregressive process which involves a constant intraclass correlation. Applying the pilot estimators of β and g(·), we construct estimators of the autoregressive coefficients, the intraclass correlation and the error variance, and investigate their asymptotic properties. Fitting the error structure results in a new semiparametric two-step estimator of β, which is shown to be asymptotically more efficient than the usual semiparametric least squares estimator in terms of asymptotic covariance matrix. Asymptotic normality of this new estimator is established, and a consistent estimator of its asymptotic covariance matrix is presented. Furthermore, a corresponding estimator of g(·) is also provided. These results can be used to make asymptotically efficient statistical inference. Some simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performances of these proposed estimators.  相似文献

This paper considers the nonparametric M-estimator in a nonlinear cointegration type model. The local time density argument, which was developed by Phillips and Park (1998) [6] and Wang and Phillips (2009) [9], is applied to establish the asymptotic theory for the nonparametric M-estimator. The weak consistency and the asymptotic distribution of the proposed estimator are established under mild conditions. Meanwhile, the asymptotic distribution of the local least squares estimator and the local least absolute distance estimator can be obtained as applications of our main results. Furthermore, an iterated procedure for obtaining the nonparametric M-estimator and a cross-validation bandwidth selection method are discussed, and some numerical examples are provided to show that the proposed methods perform well in the finite sample case.  相似文献

We consider a kernel-type nonparametric estimator of the intensity function of a cyclic Poisson process when the period is unknown. We assume that only a single realization of the Poisson process is observed in a bounded window which expands in time. We compute the asymptotic bias, variance, and the mean-squared error of the estimator when the window indefinitely expands.  相似文献

In some applications of kernel density estimation the data may have a highly non-uniform distribution and be confined to a compact region. Standard fixed bandwidth density estimates can struggle to cope with the spatially variable smoothing requirements, and will be subject to excessive bias at the boundary of the region. While adaptive kernel estimators can address the first of these issues, the study of boundary kernel methods has been restricted to the fixed bandwidth context. We propose a new linear boundary kernel which reduces the asymptotic order of the bias of an adaptive density estimator at the boundary, and is simple to implement even on an irregular boundary. The properties of this adaptive boundary kernel are examined theoretically. In particular, we demonstrate that the asymptotic performance of the density estimator is maintained when the adaptive bandwidth is defined in terms of a pilot estimate rather than the true underlying density. We examine the performance for finite sample sizes numerically through analysis of simulated and real data sets.  相似文献

We consider wavelet block thresholding method for density estimation. A block-thresholded density estimator is proposed and is shown to achieve optimal global rate of convergence over Besov spaces and simultaneously attain the optimal adaptive pointwise convergence rate as well. These results are obtained in part through the determination of an optimal block length.  相似文献

Many applications aim to learn a high dimensional parameter of a data generating distribution based on a sample of independent and identically distributed observations. For example, the goal might be to estimate the conditional mean of an outcome given a list of input variables. In this prediction context, bootstrap aggregating (bagging) has been introduced as a method to reduce the variance of a given estimator at little cost to bias. Bagging involves applying an estimator to multiple bootstrap samples and averaging the result across bootstrap samples. In order to address the curse of dimensionality, a common practice has been to apply bagging to estimators which themselves use cross-validation, thereby using cross-validation within a bootstrap sample to select fine-tuning parameters trading off bias and variance of the bootstrap sample-specific candidate estimators. In this article we point out that in order to achieve the correct bias variance trade-off for the parameter of interest, one should apply the cross-validation selector externally to candidate bagged estimators indexed by these fine-tuning parameters. We use three simulations to compare the new cross-validated bagging method with bagging of cross-validated estimators and bagging of non-cross-validated estimators.  相似文献

In the paper we study a semiparametric density estimation method based on the model of an elliptical distribution. The method considered here shows a way to overcome problems arising from the curse of dimensionality. The optimal rate of the uniform strong convergence of the estimator under consideration coincides with the optimal rate for the usual one-dimensional kernel density estimator except in a neighbourhood of the mean. Therefore the optimal rate does not depend on the dimension. Moreover, asymptotic normality of the estimator is proved.  相似文献
