For nonnegative measurements such as income or sick days, zero counts often have special status. Furthermore, the incidence of zero counts is often greater than expected for the Poisson model. This article considers a doubly semiparametric zero-inflated Poisson model to fit data of this type, which assumes two partially linear link functions in both the mean of the Poisson component and the probability of zero. We study a sieve maximum likelihood estimator for both the regression parameters and the nonparametric functions. We show, under routine conditions, that the estimators are strongly consistent. Moreover, the parameter estimators are asymptotically normal and first order efficient, while the nonparametric components achieve the optimal convergence rates. Simulation studies suggest that the extra flexibility inherent from the doubly semiparametric model is gained with little loss in statistical efficiency. We also illustrate our approach with a dataset from a public health study.  相似文献

It is of considerable interest to test for heteroscedasticity in statistical studies. In this paper, we investigate such a problem under the framework of a semiparametric mixed model. A score test is proposed for the hypothesis that all the variance components are zero. We establish the asymptotic property of the test, and examine its performance in a simulation study. The test is illustrated with the analysis of a longitudinal study of measurements of serum creatinine.  相似文献

We consider a panel data semiparametric partially linear regression model with an unknown parameter vector for the linear parametric component, an unknown nonparametric function for the nonlinear component, and a one-way error component structure which allows unequal error variances (referred to as heteroscedasticity). We develop procedures to detect heteroscedasticity and one-way error component structure, and propose a weighted semiparametric least squares estimator (WSLSE) of the parametric component in the presence of heteroscedasticity and/or one-way error component structure. This WSLSE is asymptotically more efficient than the usual semiparametric least squares estimator considered in the literature. The asymptotic properties of the WSLSE are derived. The nonparametric component of the model is estimated by the local polynomial method. Some simulations are conducted to demonstrate the finite sample performances of the proposed testing and estimation procedures. An example of application on a set of panel data of medical expenditures in Australia is also illustrated.  相似文献

Lin and Zhang (J. Roy. Statist. Soc. Ser. B 61 (1999) 381) proposed the generalized additive mixed model (GAMM) as a framework for analysis of correlated data, where normally distributed random effects are used to account for correlation in the data, and proposed to use double penalized quasi-likelihood (DPQL) to estimate the nonparametric functions in the model and marginal likelihood to estimate the smoothing parameters and variance components simultaneously. However, the normal distributional assumption for the random effects may not be realistic in many applications, and it is unclear how violation of this assumption affects ensuing inferences for GAMMs. For a particular class of GAMMs, we propose a conditional estimation procedure built on a conditional likelihood for the response given a sufficient statistic for the random effect, treating the random effect as a nuisance parameter, which thus should be robust to its distribution. In extensive simulation studies, we assess performance of this estimator under a range of conditions and use it as a basis for comparison to DPQL to evaluate the impact of violation of the normality assumption. The procedure is illustrated with application to data from the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS).  相似文献

We consider a panel data semiparametric partially linear regression model with an unknown vector β of regression coefficients, an unknown nonparametric function g(·) for nonlinear component, and unobservable serially correlated errors. The correlated errors are modeled by a vector autoregressive process which involves a constant intraclass correlation. Applying the pilot estimators of β and g(·), we construct estimators of the autoregressive coefficients, the intraclass correlation and the error variance, and investigate their asymptotic properties. Fitting the error structure results in a new semiparametric two-step estimator of β, which is shown to be asymptotically more efficient than the usual semiparametric least squares estimator in terms of asymptotic covariance matrix. Asymptotic normality of this new estimator is established, and a consistent estimator of its asymptotic covariance matrix is presented. Furthermore, a corresponding estimator of g(·) is also provided. These results can be used to make asymptotically efficient statistical inference. Some simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performances of these proposed estimators.  相似文献

In this article, we consider a semiparametric zero-inflated Poisson mixed model that postulates a possible nonlinear relationship between the natural logarithm of the mean of the counts and a particular covariate in the longitudinal studies. A penalized log-likelihood function is proposed and Monte Carlo expectation-maximization algorithm is used to derive the estimates. Under some mild conditions, we establish the consistency and asymptotic normality of the resulting estimators. Simulation studies are carried out to investigate the finite sample performance of the proposed method. For illustration purposes, the method is applied to a data set from a pharmaceutical company where the variable of interest is the number of episodes of side effects after the patient has taken the treatments.  相似文献

We present methods to handle error-in-variables models. Kernel-based likelihood score estimating equation methods are developed for estimating conditional density parameters. In particular, a semiparametric likelihood method is proposed for sufficiently using the information in the data. The asymptotic distribution theory is derived. Small sample simulations and a real data set are used to illustrate the proposed estimation methods.  相似文献

M-estimation is a widely used technique for statistical inference. In this paper, we study properties of ordinary and weighted M-estimators for semiparametric models, especially when there exist parameters that cannot be estimated at the convergence rate. Results on consistency, rates of convergence for all parameters, and consistency and asymptotic normality for the Euclidean parameters are provided. These results, together with a generic paradigm for studying semiparametric M-estimators, provide a valuable extension to previous related research on semiparametric maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs). Although penalized M-estimation does not in general fit in the framework we discuss here, it is shown for a great variety of models that many of the forgoing results still hold, including the consistency and asymptotic normality of the Euclidean parameters. For semiparametric M-estimators that are not likelihood based, general inference procedures for the Euclidean parameters have not previously been developed. We demonstrate that our paradigm leads naturally to verification of the validity of the weighted bootstrap in this setting. For illustration, several examples are investigated in detail. The new M-estimation framework and accompanying weighted bootstrap technique shed light on a universal way of investigating semiparametric models.  相似文献

We consider a difference based ridge regression estimator and a Liu type estimator of the regression parameters in the partial linear semiparametric regression model, y=Xβ+f+ε. Both estimators are analyzed and compared in the sense of mean-squared error. We consider the case of independent errors with equal variance and give conditions under which the proposed estimators are superior to the unbiased difference based estimation technique. We extend the results to account for heteroscedasticity and autocovariance in the error terms. Finally, we illustrate the performance of these estimators with an application to the determinants of electricity consumption in Germany.  相似文献

The estimation of a regression function by kernel method for longitudinal or functional data is considered. In the context of longitudinal data analysis, a random function typically represents a subject that is often observed at a small number of time points, while in the studies of functional data the random realization is usually measured on a dense grid. However, essentially the same methods can be applied to both sampling plans, as well as in a number of settings lying between them. In this paper general results are derived for the asymptotic distributions of real-valued functions with arguments which are functionals formed by weighted averages of longitudinal or functional data. Asymptotic distributions for the estimators of the mean and covariance functions obtained from noisy observations with the presence of within-subject correlation are studied. These asymptotic normality results are comparable to those standard rates obtained from independent data, which is illustrated in a simulation study. Besides, this paper discusses the conditions associated with sampling plans, which are required for the validity of local properties of kernel-based estimators for longitudinal or functional data.  相似文献

This paper considers the nonparametric M-estimator in a nonlinear cointegration type model. The local time density argument, which was developed by Phillips and Park (1998) [6] and Wang and Phillips (2009) [9], is applied to establish the asymptotic theory for the nonparametric M-estimator. The weak consistency and the asymptotic distribution of the proposed estimator are established under mild conditions. Meanwhile, the asymptotic distribution of the local least squares estimator and the local least absolute distance estimator can be obtained as applications of our main results. Furthermore, an iterated procedure for obtaining the nonparametric M-estimator and a cross-validation bandwidth selection method are discussed, and some numerical examples are provided to show that the proposed methods perform well in the finite sample case.  相似文献

A new estimation procedure for a partial linear additive model with censored responses is proposed. To this aim, ideas of Lewbel and Linton [A. Lewbel, O. Linton, Nonparametric censored and truncated regression, Econometrica 70 (2002) 765-779] on censored model regression are combined with those of Kim et al. [W. Kim, O. Linton, N.W. Hengartner, A computationally efficient estimator for additive nonparametric regression with bootstrap confidence intervals, Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics, 8 (1999) 278-297] on marginal integration and those on average derivatives. This allows for dimension reduction, interpretability and — depending on the context — for weights yielding computationally attractive estimates. Asymptotic behavior is provided for all proposed estimators.  相似文献

Quantile regression for longitudinal data   总被引:18,自引:0,他引:18
The penalized least squares interpretation of the classical random effects estimator suggests a possible way forward for quantile regression models with a large number of “fixed effects”. The introduction of a large number of individual fixed effects can significantly inflate the variability of estimates of other covariate effects. Regularization, or shrinkage of these individual effects toward a common value can help to modify this inflation effect. A general approach to estimating quantile regression models for longitudinal data is proposed employing ?1 regularization methods. Sparse linear algebra and interior point methods for solving large linear programs are essential computational tools.  相似文献

A robust estimator of the regression function is proposed combining kernel methods as introduced for density estimation and robust location estimation techniques. Weak and strong consistency and asymptotic normality are shown under mild conditions on the kernel sequence. The asymptotic variance is a product from a factor depending only on the kernel and a factor similar to the asymptotic variance in robust estimation of location. The estimation is minimax robust in the sense of Huber (1964). Robust estimation of a location parameter. Ann. Math. Statist.33 73–101.  相似文献

This paper focuses on robust estimation in the structural errors-in-variables (EV) model. A new class of robust estimators, called weighted orthogonal regression estimators, is introduced. Robust estimators of the parameters of the EV model are simply derived from robust estimators of multivariate location and scatter such as the M-estimators, the S-estimators and the MCD estimator. The influence functions of the proposed estimators are calculated and shown to be bounded. Moreover, we derive the asymptotic distributions of the estimators and illustrate the results on simulated examples and on a real-data set.  相似文献

A generalized Mahalanobis distance for mixed data   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A distance for mixed nominal, ordinal and continuous data is developed by applying the Kullback-Leibler divergence to the general mixed-data model, an extension of the general location model that allows for ordinal variables to be incorporated in the model. The distance obtained can be considered as a generalization of the Mahalanobis distance to data with a mixture of nominal, ordinal and continuous variables. Moreover, it includes as special cases previous Mahalanobis-type distances developed by Bedrick et al. (Biometrics 56 (2000) 394) and Bar-Hen and Daudin (J. Multivariate Anal. 53 (1995) 332). Asymptotic results regarding the maximum likelihood estimator of the distance are discussed. The results of a simulation study on the level and power of the tests are reported and a real-data example illustrates the method.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the empirical likelihood for constructing a confidence region of the parameter of interest in a multi-link semiparametric model when an infinite-dimensional nuisance parameter exists. The new model covers the commonly used varying coefficient, generalized linear, single-index, multi-index, hazard regression models and their generalizations, as its special cases. Because of the existence of the infinite-dimensional nuisance parameter, the classical empirical likelihood with plug-in estimation cannot be asymptotically distribution-free, and the existing bias correction is not extendable to handle such a general model. We then propose a link-based correction approach to solve this problem. This approach gives a general rule of bias correction via an inner link, and consists of two parts. For the model whose estimating equation contains the score functions that are easy to estimate, we use a centering for the scores to correct the bias; for the model of which the score functions are of complex structure, a bias-correction procedure using simpler functions instead of the scores is given without loss of asymptotic efficiency. The resulting empirical likelihood shares the desired features: it has a chi-square limit and, under-smoothing technique, high order kernel and parameter estimation are not needed. Simulation studies are carried out to examine the performance of the new method.  相似文献

Cronbach's alpha is a popular method to measure reliability, e.g. in quantifying the reliability of a score to summarize the information of several items in questionnaires. The alpha coefficient is known to be non-robust. We study the behavior of this coefficient in different settings to identify situations where Cronbach's alpha is extremely sensitive to violations of the classical model assumptions. Furthermore, we construct a robust version of Cronbach's alpha which is insensitive to a small proportion of data that belong to a different source. The idea is that the robust Cronbach's alpha reflects the reliability of the bulk of the data. For example, it should not be possible that some small amount of outliers makes a score look reliable if it is not.  相似文献

Functional semiparametric partially linear model with autoregressive errors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we introduce a functional semiparametric model, where a real-valued random variable is explained by the sum of a unknown linear combination of the components of a multivariate random variable and an unknown transformation of a functional random variable. The errors can be autocorrelated. We focus here on the parametric estimation of the coefficients in the linear combination. First, we use a nonparametric kernel method to remove the effect of the functional explanatory variable. Then, we use generalized least squares approach to obtain an estimator of these coefficients. Under some technical assumptions, we prove consistency and asymptotic normality of our estimator. Finally, we present Monte Carlo simulations that illustrate these characteristics.  相似文献
