For a class of multivariate skew normal distributions, the noncentral skew chi-square distribution is studied. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which a sequence of quadratic forms is generalized noncentral skew chi-square distributed random variables are obtained. Several examples are given to illustrate the results.  相似文献

A trace test for the mean parameters of the growth curve model is proposed. It is constructed using the restricted maximum likelihood followed by an estimated likelihood ratio approach. The statistic reduces to the Lawley-Hotelling trace test for the Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) models. Our test statistic is, therefore, a natural extension of the classical trace test to GMANOVA models. We show that the distribution of the test under the null hypothesis does not depend on the unknown covariance matrix Σ. We also show that the distributions under the null and alternative hypotheses can be represented as sums of weighted central and non-central chi-square random variables, respectively. Under the null hypothesis, the Satterthwaite approximation is used to get an approximate critical point. A novel Satterthwaite type approximation is proposed to obtain an approximate power. A simulation study is performed to evaluate the performance of our proposed test and numerical examples are provided as illustrations.  相似文献

Asymptotic expansions of the distributions of parameter estimators in mean and covariance structures are derived. The parameters may be common to, or specific in means and covariances of observable variables. The means are possibly structured by the common/specific parameters. First, the distributions of the parameter estimators standardized by the population asymptotic standard errors are expanded using the single- and the two-term Edgeworth expansions. In practice, the pivotal statistic or the Studentized estimator with the asymptotically distribution-free standard error is of interest. An asymptotic distribution of the pivotal statistic is also derived by the Cornish-Fisher expansion. Simulations are performed for a factor analysis model with nonzero factor means to see the accuracy of the asymptotic expansions in finite samples.  相似文献

We develop methods to compare multiple multivariate normally distributed samples which may be correlated. The methods are new in the context that no assumption is made about the correlations among the samples. Three types of null hypotheses are considered: equality of mean vectors, homogeneity of covariance matrices, and equality of both mean vectors and covariance matrices. We demonstrate that the likelihood ratio test statistics have finite-sample distributions that are functions of two independent Wishart variables and dependent on the covariance matrix of the combined multiple populations. Asymptotic calculations show that the likelihood ratio test statistics converge in distribution to central Chi-squared distributions under the null hypotheses regardless of how the populations are correlated. Following these theoretical findings, we propose a resampling procedure for the implementation of the likelihood ratio tests in which no restrictive assumption is imposed on the structures of the covariance matrices. The empirical size and power of the test procedure are investigated for various sample sizes via simulations. Two examples are provided for illustration. The results show good performance of the methods in terms of test validity and power.  相似文献

In this paper, the noncentral matrix quadratic forms of the skew elliptical variables are studied. A family of the matrix variate noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions is introduced as the extension of the noncentral Wishart distributions, the Dirichlet distributions and the noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions. Main distributional properties are investigated. These include probability density and closure property under linear transformation and marginalization, the joint distribution of the sub-matrices of the matrix quadratic forms in the skew elliptical variables and the moment generating functions and Bartlett's decomposition of the matrix quadratic forms in the skew normal variables. Two versions of the noncentral Cochran's Theorem for the matrix variate skew normal distributions are obtained, providing sufficient and necessary conditions for the quadratic forms in the skew normal variables to have the matrix variate noncentral generalized Dirichlet distributions. Applications include the properties of the least squares estimation in multivariate linear model and the robustness property of the Wilk's likelihood ratio statistic in the family of the matrix variate skew elliptical distributions.  相似文献

A statistic is proposed for testing the equality of the mean vectors in a one-way multivariate analysis of variance. The asymptotic null distribution of this statistic, as both the sample size and the number of variables go to infinity, is shown to be normal. Thus, this test can be used when the number of variables is not small relative to the sample size. In particular, it can be used when the number of variables exceeds the degrees of freedom for error, a situation in which standard MANOVA tests are invalid. A related statistic, also having an asymptotic normal distribution, is developed for tests concerning the dimensionality of the hyperplane formed by the population mean vectors. The finite sample size performances of the normal approximations are evaluated in a simulation study.  相似文献

This paper investigates the asymptotic properties of the likelihood ratio statistic for testing homogeneity in a bivariate normal mixture model with known covariance. The asymptotic null distributions of the likelihood ratio statistic and a modified likelihood ratio statistic are obtained in explicit form. The distributions are identical. A test of the equality of the first h eigenvectors of covariance matrices of several populations is constructed without the assumption that the sampled distributions are Gaussian. It is proved that the test statistic is asymptotically chi-square distributed. In this general setting, an explicit formula for column space of the asymptotic covariance matrix of the sample eigenvectors is derived and the rank of this matrix is computed. An essential assumption in deriving the asymptotic distribution of the presented test statistic is the existence of the finite fourth moments and the simplicity of the h largest eigenvalues of population covariance matrices, which makes possible to use the formulas for derivatives of eigenvectors of symmetric matrices.  相似文献

In this paper the distribution of the likelihood ratio test for testing the reality of the covariance matrix of a complex multivariate normal distribution is investigated. Some simplifications in the noncentral distribution are made and the noncentral distribution is derived for the special case where the rank of the noncentrality matrix is two. In the null case exact expressions for the distribution are given up to p = 6, and percentage points are tabulated. These percentage points were compared with percentage points derived from an asymptotic expansion of the distribution, and the accuracy of the approximation was found to be sufficient for several practical situations.  相似文献

This study presents methods for estimating and testing hypotheses about linear functions of the unknown parameters in a generalization of the growth curve model which allows missing data. The estimators proposed are best asymptotically normal (BAN). A testing method for large samples is described which uses a test criterion given in general form by Wald. The asymptotic null distribution of the test statistic is a central chi-square variable. A BAN estimator of a linear vector function of the unknown parameters of the expectation model and consistent estimators of the variance-covariance parameters are required for computation.  相似文献

The innovations algorithm can be used to obtain parameter estimates for periodically stationary time series models. In this paper we compute the asymptotic distribution for these estimates in the case where the underlying noise sequence has infinite fourth moment but finite second moment. In this case, the sample covariances on which the innovations algorithm are based are known to be asymptotically stable. The asymptotic results developed here are useful to determine which model parameters are significant. In the process, we also compute the asymptotic distributions of least squares estimates of parameters in an autoregressive model.  相似文献

For the test of sphericity, Ledoit and Wolf [Ann. Statist. 30 (2002) 1081-1102] proposed a statistic which is robust against high dimensionality. In this paper, we consider a natural generalization of their statistic for the test that the smallest eigenvalues of a covariance matrix are equal. Some inequalities are obtained for sums of eigenvalues and sums of squared eigenvalues. These bounds permit us to obtain the asymptotic null distribution of our statistic, as the dimensionality and sample size go to infinity together, by using distributional results obtained by Ledoit and Wolf [Ann. Statist. 30 (2002) 1081-1102]. Some empirical results comparing our test with the likelihood ratio test are also given.  相似文献

Multivariate tree-indexed Markov processes are discussed with applications. A Galton-Watson super-critical branching process is used to model the random tree-indexed process. Martingale estimating functions are used as a basic framework to discuss asymptotic properties and optimality of estimators and tests. The limit distributions of the estimators turn out to be mixtures of normals rather than normal. Also, the non-null limit distributions of standard test statistics such as Wald, Rao’s score, and likelihood ratio statistics are shown to have mixtures of non-central chi-square distributions. The models discussed in this paper belong to the local asymptotic mixed normal family. Consequently, non-standard limit results are obtained.  相似文献

The present paper aims to revisit the homogeneous risk model investigated by [De Vylder and Goovaerts, 1999] and [De Vylder and Goovaerts, 2000]. First, a claim arrival process is defined on a fixed time interval by assuming that the arrival times satisfy an order statistic property. Then, the variability and the covariance of an aggregate claim amount process is discussed. The distribution of the aggregate discounted claims is also examined. Finally, a closed-form expression for the non-ruin probability is derived in terms of a family of Appell polynomials. This formula holds for all claim distributions, even dependent. It generalizes several results obtained so far.  相似文献

Limiting distributions of a score statistic and the likelihood ratio statistic for testing a composite hypothesis involving several parameters in non-ergodic type stochastic processes are obtained. It is shown that, unlike in the usual theory (ergodic type processes), the limiting distributions of these statistics are different both under the null and a contiguous sequence of alternative hypotheses. The results are applied to a regression model with explosive autoregressive Gaussian errors. In the discussion of this example a modified score statistic is suggested where the limiting null and non-null distributions are the same as those of the likelihood ratio statistic.  相似文献

The study of the noncentral matrix variate beta type distributions has been sidelined because the final expressions for the densities depend on an integral that has not been resolved in an explicit way. We derive an exact expression for the nonnull distribution of Wilks’ statistic and precise expressions for the densities of the ratio and product of two independent components of matrix variates where one matrix variate has the noncentral matrix variate beta type I distribution and the other has the matrix variate beta type I distribution. We provide the expressions for the densities of the determinant of the ratio and the product of these two components. These distributions play a fundamental role in various areas of statistics, for example in the criteria proposed by Wilks.  相似文献

The conditional maximum likelihood estimator is suggested as an alternative to the maximum likelihood estimator and is favorable for an estimator of a dispersion parameter in the normal distribution, the inverse-Gaussian distribution, and so on. However, it is not clear whether the conditional maximum likelihood estimator is asymptotically efficient in general. Consider the case where it is asymptotically efficient and its asymptotic covariance depends only on an objective parameter in an exponential model. This remand implies that the exponential model possesses a certain parallel foliation. In this situation, this paper investigates asymptotic properties of the conditional maximum likelihood estimator and compares the conditional maximum likelihood estimator with the maximum likelihood estimator. We see that the bias of the former is more robust than that of the latter and that two estimators are very close, especially in the sense of bias-corrected version.
