Bivariate beta distributions which can be used to model data sets exhibiting positive or negative correlation are introduced. Properties of these bivariate beta distributions and their applications in Bayesian analysis are discussed. Three methods for parameter estimation are presented. The performance of these estimators is evaluated based on Monte Carlo simulations. Examples are provided to illustrate how additional parameters can be introduced to gain even more modeling flexibility. A possible extension of the proposed bivariate beta model and a multivariate generalization are also discussed.  相似文献

This paper studies the multivariate mixed proportional reversed hazard rate model having dependent mixing variables. Stochastic comparison as well as aging properties in this model are investigated, and stochastic monotone properties of the population vector with respect to the mixing vector are also discussed. Moreover, MTP2 dependence among the mixing vectors is proved to imply the increasingness of the reversed hazard rate with respect to the baseline one. Finally, some interesting applications are presented as well.  相似文献

This paper examines asymptotic distributions of the canonical correlations between and with qp, based on a sample of size of N=n+1. The asymptotic distributions of the canonical correlations have been studied extensively when the dimensions q and p are fixed and the sample size N tends toward infinity. However, these approximations worsen when q or p is large in comparison to N. To overcome this weakness, this paper first derives asymptotic distributions of the canonical correlations under a high-dimensional framework such that q is fixed, m=np and c=p/nc0∈[0,1), assuming that and have a joint (q+p)-variate normal distribution. An extended Fisher’s z-transformation is proposed. Then, the asymptotic distributions are improved further by deriving their asymptotic expansions. Numerical simulations revealed that our approximations are more accurate than the classical approximations for a large range of p,q, and n and the population canonical correlations.  相似文献

Most work on conditionally specified distributions has focused on approaches that operate on the probability space, and the constraints on the probability space often make the study of their properties challenging. We propose decomposing both the joint and conditional discrete distributions into characterizing sets of canonical interactions, and we prove that certain interactions of a joint distribution are shared with its conditional distributions. This invariance opens the door for checking the compatibility between conditional distributions involving the same set of variables. We formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness of discrete conditional models, and we show how a joint distribution can be easily computed from the pool of interactions collected from the conditional distributions. Hence, the methods can be used to calculate the exact distribution of a Gibbs sampler. Furthermore, issues such as how near compatibility can be reconciled are also discussed. Using mixed parametrization, we show that the proposed approach is based on the canonical parameters, while the conventional approaches are based on the mean parameters. Our advantage is partly due to the invariance that holds only for the canonical parameters.  相似文献

We consider a log-linear model for time series of counts. This type of model provides a framework where both negative and positive association can be taken into account. In addition time dependent covariates are accommodated in a straightforward way. We study its probabilistic properties and maximum likelihood estimation. It is shown that a perturbed version of the process is geometrically ergodic, and, under some conditions, it approaches the non-perturbed version. In addition, it is proved that the maximum likelihood estimator of the vector of unknown parameters is asymptotically normal with a covariance matrix that can be consistently estimated. The results are based on minimal assumptions and can be extended to the case of log-linear regression with continuous exogenous variables. The theory is applied to aggregated financial transaction time series. In particular, we discover positive association between the number of transactions and the volatility process of a certain stock.  相似文献

Two conditions are shown under which elliptical distributions are scale mixtures of normal distributions with respect to probability distributions. The issue of finding the mixing distribution function is also considered. As a unified theoretical framework, it is also shown that any scale mixture of normal distributions is always a term of a sequence of elliptical distributions, increasing in dimension, and that all the terms of this sequence are also scale mixtures of normal distributions sharing the same mixing distribution function. Some examples are shown as applications of these concepts, showing the way of finding the mixing distribution function.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of nonnormality upon the nonnull distributions of some MANOVA test statistics under normality. It is shown that whatever the underlying distributions, the difference of the local powers up to order N-1 (N is the total number of observations) after either Bartlett's type adjustment or Cornish-Fisher's type adjustment under nonnormality coincides with that in Anderson [An Introduction to Multivariate Statistical Analysis, second ed., 1984 and third ed., 2003, Wiley, New York] under normality. The performance of higher-order results in finite samples is examined using simulation studies.  相似文献

We investigate some properties of the partially ordered sets of multivariate copulas and quasi-copulas. Whereas the set of bivariate quasi-copulas is a complete lattice, which is order-isomorphic to the Dedekind-MacNeille completion of the set of bivariate copulas, we show that this is not the case in higher dimensions.  相似文献

The present paper aims to point out how the stationary-excess operator and its iterates transform s-convex stochastic orders and the associated moment spaces. This allows us to propose a new unified method on constructing s-convex extrema for distributions that are known to be t-monotone. Both discrete and continuous cases are investigated. Several extremal distributions under monotonicity conditions are derived. They are illustrated with some applications in insurance.  相似文献

Three new multivariate semi-logistic distributions (denoted by MSL(1), MSL(2), and GMSL respectively) are studied in this paper. They are more general than Gumbel’s (1961) [1] and Arnold’s (1992) [2] multivariate logistic distributions. They may serve as competitors to these commonly used multivariate logistic distributions. Various characterization theorems via geometric maximization and geometric minimization procedures of the three MSL(1), MSL(2) and GMSL are proved. The particular multivariate logistic distribution used in the multiple logistic regression model is introduced. Its characterization theorem is also studied. Finally, some further research work on these MSL is also presented. Some probability density plots and contours of the bivariate MSL(1), MSL(2) as well as Gumbel’s and Arnold’s bivariate logistic distributions are presented in the Appendix.  相似文献

The innovations algorithm can be used to obtain parameter estimates for periodically stationary time series models. In this paper we compute the asymptotic distribution for these estimates in the case where the underlying noise sequence has infinite fourth moment but finite second moment. In this case, the sample covariances on which the innovations algorithm are based are known to be asymptotically stable. The asymptotic results developed here are useful to determine which model parameters are significant. In the process, we also compute the asymptotic distributions of least squares estimates of parameters in an autoregressive model.  相似文献

It is well-known that the univariate generalized Pareto distributions (GPD) are characterized by their peaks-over-threshold (POT) stability. We extend this result to multivariate GPDs.It is also shown that this POT stability is asymptotically shared by distributions which are in a certain neighborhood of a multivariate GPD. A multivariate extreme value distribution is a typical example.The usefulness of the results is demonstrated by various applications. We immediately obtain, for example, that the excess distribution of a linear portfolio with positive weights ai, id, is independent of the weights, if (U1,…,Ud) follows a multivariate GPD with identical univariate polynomial or Pareto margins, which was established by Macke [On the distribution of linear combinations of multivariate EVD and GPD distributed random vectors with an application to the expected shortfall of portfolios, Diploma Thesis, University of Würzburg, 2004, (in German)] and Falk and Michel [Testing for tail independence in extreme value models. Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 58 (2006) 261-290]. This implies, for instance, that the expected shortfall as a measure of risk fails in this case.  相似文献

One of two simple hypotheses for the unknown arrival rate and jump distribution of a compound Poisson process is correct. We start observing the process, and the problem is to decide on the correct hypothesis as soon as possible and with the smallest probability of wrong decision. We establish the Stein phenomenon in the context of two-step, monotone incomplete data drawn from , a (p+q)-dimensional multivariate normal population with mean and covariance matrix . On the basis of data consisting of n observations on all p+q characteristics and an additional Nn observations on the last q characteristics, where all observations are mutually independent, denote by the maximum likelihood estimator of . We establish criteria which imply that shrinkage estimators of James-Stein type have lower risk than under Euclidean quadratic loss. Further, we show that the corresponding positive-part estimators have lower risk than their unrestricted counterparts, thereby rendering the latter estimators inadmissible. We derive results for the case in which is block-diagonal, the loss function is quadratic and non-spherical, and the shrinkage estimator is constructed by means of a nondecreasing, differentiable function of a quadratic form in . For the problem of shrinking to a vector whose components have a common value constructed from the data, we derive improved shrinkage estimators and again determine conditions under which the positive-part analogs have lower risk than their unrestricted counterparts.  相似文献

In the problem of selecting the explanatory variables in the linear mixed model, we address the derivation of the (unconditional or marginal) Akaike information criterion (AIC) and the conditional AIC (cAIC). The covariance matrices of the random effects and the error terms include unknown parameters like variance components, and the selection procedures proposed in the literature are limited to the cases where the parameters are known or partly unknown. In this paper, AIC and cAIC are extended to the situation where the parameters are completely unknown and they are estimated by the general consistent estimators including the maximum likelihood (ML), the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) and other unbiased estimators. We derive, related to AIC and cAIC, the marginal and the conditional prediction error criteria which select superior models in light of minimizing the prediction errors relative to quadratic loss functions. Finally, numerical performances of the proposed selection procedures are investigated through simulation studies.  相似文献

We use a recent characterization of the d-dimensional Archimedean copulas as the survival copulas of d-dimensional simplex distributions (McNeil and Nešlehová (2009) [1]) to construct new Archimedean copula families, and to examine the relationship between their dependence properties and the radial parts of the corresponding simplex distributions. In particular, a new formula for Kendall’s tau is derived and a new dependence ordering for non-negative random variables is introduced which generalises the Laplace transform order. We then generalise the Archimedean copulas to obtain Liouville copulas, which are the survival copulas of Liouville distributions and which are non-exchangeable in general. We derive a formula for Kendall’s tau of Liouville copulas in terms of the radial parts of the corresponding Liouville distributions.  相似文献
