The finite deformation of a hyperelastic, compressible and anisotropic tube subjected to torsion, circular and axial shearing is studied. The analysis is carried out for a class of Ogden elastic material and the governing non-linear equations are solved numerically with the Runge–Kutta method. The solution is used to study the effects of a specific material model on the local volume change and the circumferential stretch ratio.  相似文献

We consider the uniform swelling of a compressible hyperelastic surface layer with finite thickness that is attached to an underlying bulk material composed of a non-swelling incompressible hyperelastic material. In addition to classically smooth solutions, two additional phenomena may occur for sufficiently large swelling. One is the formation of cavities in the interior of the underlying bulk material. The other is the disappearance of smooth solutions in the surface layer while the underlying bulk material remains intact. It is conjectured that the latter may be associated with the concentration of deformation at the swelling interface. Both phenomena are investigated by the consideration of solutions to a boundary value problem for a sphere involving radial deformation with a prescribed swelling field that acts as an effective loading device. Specific material models for both the compressible swollen surface layer and the non-swollen incompressible bulk are invoked so as to permit an analytical treatment. Swelling thresholds are obtained that depend on the thickness of the surface layer for the onset of these separate phenomena.  相似文献

The problem of the finite deformation of a composite sphere subjected to a spherically symmetric dead load traction is revisited focusing on the formation of a cavity at the interface between a hyperelastic, incompressible matrix shell and a rigid inhomogeneity. Separation phenomena are assumed to be governed by a vanishingly thin interfacial cohesive zone characterized by uniform normal and tangential interface force–separation constitutive relations. Spherically symmetric cavity shapes (spheres) are shown to be solutions of an interfacial integral equation depending on the strain energy density of the matrix, the interface force constitutive relation, the dead loading and the volume concentration of inhomogeneity. Spherically symmetric and non-symmetric bifurcations initiating from spherically symmetric equilibrium states are analyzed within the framework of infinitesimal strain superimposed on a given finite deformation. A simple formula for the dead load required to initiate the non-symmetrical rigid body mode is obtained and a detailed examination of a few special cases is provided. Explicit results are presented for the Mooney–Rivlin strain energy density and for an interface force–separation relation which allows for complete decohesion in normal separation.  相似文献

Conditions on the form of the strain energy function in order that homogeneous, compressible and isotropic hyperelastic materials may sustain controllable static, axisymmetric anti-plane shear, azimuthal shear, and helical shear deformations of a hollow, circular cylinder have been explored in several recent papers. Here we study conditions on the strain energy function for homogeneous and compressible, anisotropic hyperelastic materials necessary and sufficient to sustain controllable, axisymmetric helical shear deformations of the tube. Similar results for separate axisymmetric anti-plane shear deformations and rotational shear deformations are then obtained from the principal theorem for helical shear deformations. The three theorems are illustrated for general compressible transversely isotropic materials for which the isotropy axis coincides with the cylinder axis. Previously known necessary and sufficient conditions on the strain energy for compressible and isotropic hyperelastic materials in order that the three classes of axisymmetric shear deformations may be possible follow by specialization of the anisotropic case. It is shown that the required monotonicity condition for the isotropic case is much simpler and less restrictive. Restrictions necessary and sufficient for anti-plane and rotational shear deformations to be possible in compressible hyperelastic materials having a helical axis of transverse isotropy that winds at a constant angle around the tube axis are derived. Results for the previous case and for a circular axis of transverse isotropy are included as degenerate helices. All of the conditions derived here have essentially algebraic structure and are easy to apply. The general rules are applied in several examples for specific strain energy functions of compressible and homogeneous transversely isotropic materials having straight, circular, and helical axes of material symmetry.  相似文献

Cylindrical shells of arbitrary wall thickness subjected to uniform radial tensile or compressive dead-load traction are investigated. The material of the shell is assumed to be homogeneous, isotropic, compressible and hyperelastic. The stability of the finitely deformed state and small, free, radial vibrations about this state are investigated using the theory of small deformations superposed on large elastic deformations. The governing equations are solved numerically using both the multiple shooting method and the finite element method. For the finite element method the commercial program ABAQUS is used.1 The loss of stability occurs when the motions cease to be periodic. The effects of several geometric and material properties on the stress and the deformation fields are investigated.  相似文献

The stress solution to the radial compaction of a hyperelastic tube is developed analytically for both incompressible and slightly compressible material response. The solution is explicit for the incompressible behaviour and implicit for the compressible one. It is shown that proper combination of tube geometry and total compaction leads to stress results very sensitive to small variations of Poisson's ratio. This makes the problem a good benchmark for the performance of numerical methods in the area of compressible finite elasticity. As an example, the commercial finite element code ABAQUS is applied to a demanding tube configuration for Poisson's ratios in the range from 0.49 to 0.5.  相似文献

This work investigates the behavior of a traction-free crack at the interface of two semi-infinite slabs bonded together under the conditions of plane strain. A determination of the mathematical form of the deformation and stresses near the crack-tip, consistent with the fully non-linear equilibrium theory of compressible elastic solids, is found by an asymptotic treatment of the deformation. Each slab is assumed to be hyperelastic, homogeneous, and isotropic with Knowles-Sternberg type asymptotic conditions on its strain-energy density. It is shown that under these conditions, the interface-crack problem admits solutions in which oscillatory singularities do not occur. This suggests that it is the approximations made by the linear theory which produce these singularities.  相似文献

The classical problem of simple shear in nonlinear elasticity has played an important role as a basic pilot problem involving a homogeneous deformation that is rich enough to illustrate several key features of the nonlinear theory, most notably the presence of normal stress effects. Here our focus is on certain ambiguities in the formulation of simple shear arising from the determination of the arbitrary hydrostatic pressure term in the normal stresses for the case of an incompressible isotropic hyperelastic material. A new formulation in terms of the principal stretches is given. An alternative approach to the determination of the hydrostatic pressure is proposed here: it will be required that the stress distribution for a perfectly incompressible material be the same as that for a slightly compressible counterpart. The form of slight compressibility adopted here is that usually assumed in the finite element simulation of rubbers. For the particular case of a neo-Hookean material, the different stress distributions are compared and contrasted.  相似文献

The inflation and bifurcation of spherical membranes is considered. The membrane material is assumed to be isotropic and hyperelastic but may be arbitrarily compressible. Qualitatively the behaviour of compressible membranes is shown to be the same as that of incompressible membranes but specific forms of strain-energy functions are chosen to illustrate possible quantitative differences.  相似文献

Turbo-generator shafts are often subjected to complex dynamic torsional loadings, resulting in generation and propagation of circumferential cracks. Mode III fatigue crack growth generally results in a fracture surface consisting of peaks and valleys, resembling a factory roof. The fracture surface roughness depends on the material microstructure, the material yield strength, and the applied cyclic torque amplitude. This crack pattern can severely affect the vibration characteristics of the shafts. The accurate evaluation of the torsional dynamic response of the turbo-generator shafts entails considering the local sources of energy loss in the crack vicinity. The two most common sources of the energy loss are the local energy loss due to the plasticity at the crack tip and frictional energy loss due to interaction of mutual crack surfaces. A theoretical procedure for evaluating the values of the system loss factors corresponding to these sources of energy loss is presented. Furthermore, the local flexibility is obtained by evaluating the resistance of the cracked section of the shaft to the rotational displacement. The shaft material is assumed to be elastic perfectly plastic. The effects of the applied Mode III stress intensity factor and the crack surface pattern parameters on the energy loss due to the friction and the energy loss due to the plasticity at the crack tip are investigated. The results show that depending on the amplitude of the applied Mode III stress intensity factor, one of these energy losses may dominate the total energy loss in the circumferentially cracked shaft. The results further indicate that the torsional dynamic response of the turbo-generator shaft is significantly affected by considering these two sources of the local energy loss.  相似文献

In this paper, the axisymmetric torsional problem of a coating structure consisting of a surface coating, a functionally graded layer and a substrate under a rigid cylindrical punch is investigated. The coating and substrate are homogeneous materials with distinct physical properties while the intermediate layer is inhomogeneous with its shear modulus changing exponentially along the thickness direction. The Hankel integral transform technique is employed to reduce the torsional problem to a singular integral equation with a Cauchy kernel. The circumferential shear stress and displacement fields in the coating structure are calculated by solving the integral equation numerically. The results show that the stiffness ratio has significant effect on the distribution of the circumferential stress and displacement at the interface.  相似文献

We consider the equilibrium problem of a hyperelastic thin-walled tube. One end of the tube is placed over an immovable, rough, rigid cylinder. We assume that the deformation of the tube is finite and axisymmetric. The tube is modeled by a cylindrical membrane. The membrane is composed of an incompressible, homogeneous, isotropic elastic material. We use Bartenev–Khazanovich (Varga) strain energy function. A contact between the membrane and the rigid cylinder is with a dry friction. The membrane will not slide off the cylinder only by a friction and at a sufficient contact area. The friction is described by Coulomb's law. We study a minimum length of the membrane which is in contact with the rigid cylinder and is needed to the equilibrium of the membrane.  相似文献

Cancer represents one the most challenging problems in medicine and biology nowadays, and is being actively addressed by many researchers from different areas of knowledge. The increasing development of sophisticated mathematical models and computer-based procedures has had a positive impact on our understanding of cancer-related mechanisms and the design of anticancer treatment strategies. However, further investigation and experimentation are still required to completely elucidate the tumor-associated mechanical responses, as well as the effect of mechanical forces on the net tumor growth. In this work we develop a theoretical framework in the context of continuum mechanics to investigate the anisotropic growth of avascular tumor spheroids. To that end, a specific anisotropic growth deformation tensor is considered, which also describes an isotropic growth law as a particular case. Mixtures theory and the notion of multiple natural configurations are then used to formulate a mathematical model of avascular tumor growth. More precisely, mass, momentum balance and nutrients diffusion equations are derived, where solid tumors are assumed as hyperelastic and compressible materials. Moreover, mechanical interactions with a rigid extracellular matrix (ECM) are considered, and the mechanical modulation of growing tumors in a rigid surrounding tissue is investigated by means of numerical simulations. Finally, the model results are compared with experimental data previously reported in the literature.  相似文献

The available experimental results are used to find the dependence on the Mach number of the maximal impact drag coefficient and the growth time of the impact load when a disk enters a compressible fluid at an angle to the free surface. The elastic properties of the disk are not taken into account, i.e., the disk is assumed to be absolutely rigid.  相似文献

We examine the existence of neutral nano-inhomogeneities in a hyperelastic inhomogeneity-matrix system subjected to finite plane deformations when uniform (in-plane) external loading is imposed on the matrix. We incorporate nanoscale interface effects by representing the material interface as a separate hyperelastic membrane, perfectly bonded to the surrounding bulk material. We show that for any type of hyperelastic bulk material and practically any type of hyperelastic membrane representing the interface, neutral nano-inhomogeneities do exist but are necessarily circular in shape. We show further that the radius of the circular neutral nano-inhomogeneity is determined by the (uniform) external loading (which must be hydrostatic) and the respective strain energy density functions associated with the hyperelastic bulk and interface materials.  相似文献

We study a contact problem with friction for a hyperelastic long thin-walled tube. One end of the tube is placed over an immovable, rough, rigid cylinder and an axial force is applied to another end. We assume the deformation of the tube is finite and axisymmetric. The tube is modeled by a semi-infinity cylindrical membrane. The axial force tends to a constant value at large distances from the inclusion. The membrane is made of an incompressible, homogeneous, isotropic elastic material. A contact between the membrane and the rigid cylinder is with a dry friction. The membrane will not slide off the cylinder only by friction and at a sufficient contact area. The friction is described by Coulomb’s law. We study a minimum length of the membrane which is in contact with the rigid cylinder and is needed to hold the membrane on the rigid cylinder. We obtain an explicit solution for the Bartenev–Khazanovich (Varga) strain–energy function and numerical results for the Mooney–Rivlin and Fung models.  相似文献

The dynamic response of an isotropic hyperelastic membrane tube, subjected to a dynamic extension at its one end, is studied. In the first part of the paper, an asymptotic expansion technique is used to derive a non-linear membrane theory for finite axially symmetric dynamic deformations of incompressible non-linearly elastic circular cylindrical tubes by starting from the three-dimensional elasticity theory. The equations governing dynamic axially symmetric deformations of the membrane tube are obtained for an arbitrary form of the strain-energy function. In the second part of the paper, finite amplitude wave propagation in an incompressible hyperelastic membrane tube is considered when one end is fixed and the other is subjected to a suddenly applied dynamic extension. A Godunov-type finite volume method is used to solve numerically the corresponding problem. Numerical results are given for the Mooney-Rivlin incompressible material. The question how the present numerical results are related to those obtained in the literature is discussed.  相似文献

Finite telescopic shear of a compressible hyperelastic tube is considered. It is shown that solutions with isochoric deformation fields exist for a class of strain energy functions. A numerical method is proposed for the analysis of the problem when a solution with an isochoric deformation field does not exist. Numerical results obtained by using a programmable desk calculator are presented graphically for two strain energy functions.  相似文献
