A solution of the Abel equation such that x(0)=x(1) is called a periodic orbit of the equation. Our main result proves that if there exist two real numbers a and b such that the function aA(t)+bB(t) is not identically zero, and does not change sign in [0,1] then the Abel differential equation has at most one non-zero periodic orbit. Furthermore, when this periodic orbit exists, it is hyperbolic. This result extends the known criteria about the Abel equation that only refer to the cases where either A(t)?0 or B(t)?0 does not change sign. We apply this new criterion to study the number of periodic solutions of two simple cases of Abel equations: the one where the functions A(t) and B(t) are 1-periodic trigonometric polynomials of degree one and the case where these two functions are polynomials with three monomials. Finally, we give an upper bound for the number of isolated periodic orbits of the general Abel equation , when A(t), B(t) and C(t) satisfy adequate conditions.  相似文献

The determination of the basin of attraction of a periodic orbit can be achieved using a Lyapunov function. A Lyapunov function can be constructed by approximation of a first-order linear PDE for the orbital derivative via meshless collocation. However, if the periodic orbit is only accessible numerically, a different method has to be used near the periodic orbit. Borg's criterion provides a method to obtain information about the basin of attraction by measuring whether adjacent solutions approach each other with respect to a Riemannian metric. Using a numerical approximation of the periodic orbit and its first variation equation, a suitable Riemannian metric is constructed.  相似文献

The modelling of the spread of infectious disease is carried out for time t on a measure chain T. Our approach unifies the continuous case and the discrete case . The model is described by the integral equation
where x(t) represents the proportion of the population infected at time t, f(t,x(t)) denotes the proportion of the population newly infected per unit time, and τ is the length of time an individual remains infectious. Using the measure chain calculus, we shall develop criteria for the existence of a nontrivial and nonnegative periodic solution for the modelling equation. A Riemannian metric with a local contraction property can be used to prove existence and uniqueness of a periodic orbit and determine a subset of its basin of attraction. While the existence of such a contraction metric is equivalent to the existence of an exponentially stable periodic orbit, the explicit construction of the metric is a difficult problem.In this paper, the construction of such a contraction metric is achieved by formulating it as an equivalent problem, namely a feasibility problem in semidefinite optimization. The contraction metric, a matrix-valued function, is constructed as a continuous piecewise affine (CPA) function, which is affine on each simplex of a triangulation of the phase space. The contraction conditions are formulated as conditions on the values at the vertices.The paper states a semidefinite optimization problem. We prove on the one hand that a feasible solution of the optimization problem determines a CPA contraction metric and on the other hand that the optimization problem is always feasible if the system has an exponentially stable periodic orbit and the triangulation is fine enough. An objective function can be used to obtain a bound on the largest Floquet exponent of the periodic orbit.  相似文献

In this paper we develop Kaplan-Yorke's method and consider the existence of periodic solutions for some delay differential equations. We especially study Hopf and saddle-node bifurcations of periodic solutions with certain periods for these equations with parameters, and give conditions under which the bifurcations occur. We also give application examples and find that Hopf and saddle-node bifurcations often occur infinitely many times.  相似文献

In this paper, a suitable local coordinate system is constructed by using exponential dichotomies and generalizing the Floquet method from periodic systems to nonperiodic systems. We study the behaviour of solutions to nonlinear functional differential equations of mixed type (MFDEs), that remain sufficiently close to a prescribed periodic solution. Under a discreteness condition on the Floquet spectrum, we show that all such solutions can be captured on a finite dimensional invariant center manifold, that inherits the smoothness of the nonlinearity. This generalizes the results that were obtained previously in [H.J. Hupkes, S.M. Verduyn Lunel, Center manifold theory for functional differential equations of mixed type, J. Dynam. In this paper we establish results on the existence of Lyapunov families of periodic orbits of reversible systems in around an equilibrium that presents a 0:1:1-resonance.
