We show that every Banach space X whose centralizer is infinite-dimensional satisfies that every non-empty weakly open set in BY has diameter 2, where (N-fold symmetric projective tensor product of X, endowed with the symmetric projective norm), for every natural number N. We provide examples where the above conclusion holds that includes some spaces of operators and infinite-dimensional C-algebras. We also prove that every non-empty weak open set in the unit ball of the space of N-homogeneous and integral polynomials on X has diameter two, for every natural number N, whenever the Cunningham algebra of X is infinite-dimensional. Here we consider the space of N-homogeneous integral polynomials as the dual of the space (N-fold symmetric injective tensor product of X, endowed with the symmetric injective norm). For instance, every infinite-dimensional L1(μ) satisfies that its Cunningham algebra is infinite-dimensional. We obtain the same result for every non-reflexive L-embedded space, and so for every predual of an infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebra.  相似文献

We define the infinite-dimensional simplex to be the closure of the convex hull of the standard basis vectors in R, and prove that this space has the fixed point property: any continuous function from the space into itself has a fixed point. Our proof is constructive, in the sense that it can be used to find an approximate fixed point; the proof relies on elementary analysis and Sperner's lemma. The fixed point theorem is shown to imply Schauder's fixed point theorem on infinite-dimensional compact convex subsets of normed spaces.  相似文献

The purpose of the present paper is to consider some weak asymptotic problems concerning the infinite-dimensional Kolmogorov widths, the infinite-dimensional linear widths, the infinite-dimensional Gel'fand widths and optimal recovery in Besov space. It is obvious to be found that the results obtained and methods used in Besov space are easily generalized, and hence in this paper these results in an extension of Besov spaces on Rd are stated and proved. Meantime, the representation theorem and approximation of these spaces by polynomial splines are discussed.  相似文献

We discuss the theory of infinite-dimensional manifolds from the point of view of establishing a widely applicable framework for generalization of the finite-dimensional Hodge theory. The principal result is the development of an exterior algebra based on a weakened definition of differentiation, so that “C” partitions of unity are available for paracompact manifolds modelled on arbitrary real separable Banach spaces. We prove a Poincaré lemma for our new notion of exterior differentiation, and go on to discuss the relationship of the exterior derivative with current research efforts toward the definition of an infinite-dimensional Laplace-Beltrami operator.  相似文献

We consider products of unitary operators with at most two points in their spectra, 1 and eiα. We prove that the scalar operator eiγI is a product of k such operators if α(1+1/(k-3))?γ?α(k-1-1/(k-3)) for k?5. Also we prove that for eiα≠-1, only a countable number of scalar operators can be decomposed in a product of four operators from the mentioned class. As a corollary we show that every unitary operator on an infinite-dimensional space is a product of finitely many such operators.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to prove the well-posedness (existence and uniqueness) of the Lp entropy solution to the homogeneous Dirichlet problems for the anisotropic degenerate parabolic-hyperbolic equations with Lp initial value. We use the device of doubling variables and some technical analysis to prove the uniqueness result. Moreover we can prove that the Lp entropy solution can be obtained as the limit of solutions of the corresponding regularized equations of nondegenerate parabolic type.  相似文献

We prove that exponential maps of right-invariant Sobolev H r metrics on a variety of diffeomorphism groups of compact manifolds are nonlinear Fredholm maps of index zero as long as r is sufficiently large. This generalizes the result of Ebin et al. (Geom. Funct. Anal. 16, 2006) for the L 2 metric on the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms important in hydrodynamics. In particular, our results apply to many other equations of interest in mathematical physics. We also prove an infinite-dimensional Morse Index Theorem, settling a question raised by Arnold and Khesin (Topological methods in hydrodynamics. Springer, New York, 1998) on stable perturbations of flows in hydrodynamics. Finally, we include some applications to the global geometry of diffeomorphism groups.  相似文献

We first prove a local weighted integral inequality for conjugate A-harmonic tensors. Then, as an application of our local result, we prove a global weighted integral inequality for conjugate A-harmonic tensors in Ls(μ)-averaging domains, which can be considered as a generalization of the classical result. We prove that each sub-Riemannian manifold can be embedded in some Euclidean space preserving the length of all the curves in the manifold. The result is an extension of Nash C 1 Embedding Theorem. For more general metric spaces the same result is false, e.g., for Finsler non-Riemannian manifolds. However, we also show that any metric space of finite Hausdorff dimension can be embedded in some Euclidean space via a Lipschitz map.  相似文献

Let (M,g) be a smooth compact Riemannian manifold. We first give the value of the best first constant for the critical embedding H2(M)?L2?(M) for second-order Sobolev spaces of functions invariant by some subgroup of the isometry group of (M,g). We also prove that we can take ?=0 in the corresponding inequality under some geometric assumptions. As an application we give a sufficient condition for the existence of a smooth positive symmetric solution to a critical equation with a symmetric Paneitz-Branson-type operator. A sufficient condition for the existence of a nodal solution to such an equation is also derived. We eventually prove a multiplicity result for such an equation.  相似文献

In this paper we give a generalization of the PI-controller design theory proposed by Kobayashi [T.A. Kobayashi, Digital PI-controller for distributed parameter systems, SIAM J. Control Optim. 26 (1988) 1399-1414] and later by Xu and Jerbi [C.Z. Xu, H. Jerbi, A robust PI-controller for infinite-dimensional systems, Internat. J. Control 61 (1995) 33-45] to stabilize and regulate a large class of infinite-dimensional linear systems in Banach space. We prove that even if the dynamic operator A of the open loop system does not generate a holomorphic semigroup, the invertibility of CA−1B (where C is an unbounded observation operator and B is a bounded control operator for the system) is still a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a robust PI-controller.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the motion of rigid bodies in a perfect incompressible fluid. The rigid-fluid system fills a bounded domain in R3. Adapting the strategy from Bourguignon and Brezis (1974) [1], we use the stream lines of the fluid and we eliminate the pressure by solving a Neumann problem. In this way, the system is reduced to an ordinary differential equation on a closed infinite-dimensional manifold. Using this formulation, we prove the local in time existence and uniqueness of strong solutions.  相似文献

We consider the existence and multiplicity results for the prescribed scalar curvature problem on the standard spheres of high dimension n ?? 7. Given a C 2 positive function K, using the theory of critical points at infinity, we prove an existence result as Bahri-Coron theorem. Our case is a generalization of Li (J Differ Equ 120:319?C410, 1995). Indeed, here the function K is flat near some critical points as in Li (J Differ Equ 120:319?C410, 1995) and it can have some nondegenerate critical points with ?? K ?? 0. We prove a new inequality valid in any two-dimensional normed space. As an application, it is shown that the identity mapping on the unit ball of an infinite-dimensional uniformly convex Banach space is the mean of n uniformly continuous retractions from the unit ball onto the unit sphere, for every n?3. This last result allows us to study the extremal structure of uniformly continuous function spaces valued in an infinite-dimensional uniformly convex Banach space.  相似文献

Abstract. We prove that an infinite-dimensional space of piecewise polynomial functions of degree at most n-1 with infinitely many simple knots, n ≥ 2 , satisfies Property A. Apart from its independent interest, this result allows us to solve an open classical problem (n ≥ 3 ) in theory of best approximation: the uniqueness of best L 1 -approximation by n -convex functions to an integrable, continuous function defined on a bounded interval. We continue the study of Selectively Separable (SS) and, a game-theoretic strengthening, strategically selectively separable spaces (SS+) (see Barman, Dow (2011) [1]). The motivation for studying SS+ is that it is a property possessed by all separable subsets of Cp(X) for each σ-compact space X. We prove that the winning strategy for countable SS+ spaces can be chosen to be Markov. We introduce the notion of being compactlike for a collection of open sets in a topological space and with the help of this notion we prove that there are two countable SS+ spaces such that the union fails to be SS+, which contrasts the known result about SS spaces. We also prove that the product of two countable SS+ spaces is again countable SS+. One of the main results in this paper is that the proper forcing axiom, PFA, implies that the product of two countable Fréchet spaces is SS, a statement that was shown in Barman, Dow (2011) [1] to consistently fail. An auxiliary result is that it is consistent with the negation of CH that all separable Fréchet spaces have π-weight at most ω1.  相似文献

Given a Hilbert space H, the infinite-dimensional Lorentz/second-order cone K is introduced. For any xH, a spectral decomposition is introduced, and for any function f:RR, we define a corresponding vector-valued function fH(x) on Hilbert space H by applying f to the spectral values of the spectral decomposition of xH with respect to K. We show that this vector-valued function inherits from f the properties of continuity, Lipschitz continuity, differentiability, smoothness, as well as s-semismoothness. These results can be helpful for designing and analyzing solution methods for solving infinite-dimensional second-order cone programs and complementarity problems.  相似文献

In this paper, using a modified Poisson kernel in an upper half-space, we prove that a harmonic function u(z) in a upper half space with its positive part u+(x)=max{u(x),0} satisfying a slowly growing condition can be represented by its integral in the boundary of the upper half space, the integral representation is unique up to the addition of a harmonic polynomial, vanishing in the boundary of the upper half space and that its negative part u(x)=max{−u(x),0} can be dominated by a similar slowly growing condition, this improves some classical result about harmonic functions in the upper half space.  相似文献
