The deformation of the free surface of a magnetic fluid containing a cylinder made of a magnetizable material subjected to a uniform applied magnetic field is analyzed. The statics and dynamics of a magnetic fluid free surface is studied theoretically and experimentally. A discontinuous (jump-like) change of the surface shape is shown to occur when the applied magnetic field gradually increases or decreases. If the applied magnetic field increases and then decreases, a hysteresis of the shape is observed.  相似文献

The POD (Proper Orthogonal Decomposition) method was used to investigate the near-wake behind an elliptic cylinder located under a free surface. For two different depths of cylinder submergence, the first four eigenmodes of the flow field were calculated and their structures were analyzed. The first four eigenmodes reveal the details about the global mean flow structure, with the large-scale structure being mainly related to the most energetic flow motion. The convergence of accumulated eigenvalues shows a slight dependence on the number of instantaneous velocity fields used in POD analysis.  相似文献

A study of the three-dimensional flow of a liquid film (rivulet) over the external part of an inclined cylinder was conducted for liquids with various physical properties. Patterns of the flow regimes were constructed. Good agreement is observed between the experimental data on the thickness and wall friction with the calculation with an asymptotic model in the case of a waveless rivulet. A comparison of the evolution of natural waves on rivulets with the theory of waves of maximal growth shows good agreement for small Re numbers. During the experiments, the wave characteristics of excited waves on a rivulet were investigated. The thickness, amplitude, frequency, and phase velocity of the waves over a wide range of variable parameters are given. Phase velocity integrated functions of the amplitude are constructed for various liquids. The friction on the cylinder wall is measured in the presence of natural and excited waves. The effects of wave regimes on the average values and RMS (root-mean-square) friction pulsations are studied.  相似文献

This study aims to clarify the relationship between the deformation of a free surface and flow transition in a “switching phenomenon” process. In a flow driven by a rotating disk in a cylindrical open vessel, the free surface irregularly changes its shape from axisymmetric to nonaxisymmetric and vice versa with repeating up-and-down motion (so-called “switching phenomenon”). The flow under the free surface was visualized by anisotropic flakes. When the free surface assumes a parabolic shape, the flow is distinguished by three regions; local circulation region, rigid vortex region and meridional circulation region. The flow transition in the switching phenomenon was shown by snapshots and movies of the visualized flow; the flow near the free surface is laminar even if the shape of the free surface changes to nonaxisymmetric during the time at which the free surface attaches to the bottom of the vessel. After the free surface detaches from the disk, the flow near the free surface becomes turbulent. When the free surface changes to axisymmetric while descending to the bottom, the flow changes from turbulent to laminar flow and the local circulation region reemerges at the center of the vessel.  相似文献

This paper discusses an analytical representation of phase boundaries in a composite vortex that result from the circular motion of a given volume of water with a given volume of a light immiscible admixture (oil) on its surface in a cylindrical container. The vortex structure consists of a vortex cavity in the center of a container and an oil body inside the vortex. Under the assumption of axial symmetry, analytical expressions were first derived describing the shape of the phase boundaries. A series of experiments was carried out and numerical calculations were compared with the experimental data. The calculated and measured phase boundary shapes were found to be satisfactorily consistent with each other. Requirements were determined regarding the experimental study of the shape of an oil body in a composite vortex and its stability depending on the governing parameters.  相似文献

The properties of harmonic surface waves in an elastic cylinder filled with a liquid are studied. The case of elastic material for which the shear wave velocity is higher than the sound velocity in a liquid is considered. The wave motion is described based on the complete system of equations of the dynamic theory of elasticity and the equation of motion of an ideal compressible liquid. The asymptotic analysis of the dispersion equation in the region of large wave numbers and qualitative analysis of the dispersion spectrum showed that in such a waveguiding system there exist two surface waves, the Stoneley and the Rayleigh waves. The lowest normal wave forms the Stoneley wave on the internal surface of the cylinder. In this waveguide phase, velocities of all normal waves, except for the lowest one, have the velocity of sound in the liquid as their limit. Therefore, the Rayleigh wave on the external surface of the cylinder is formed by all normal waves in the range of frequencies and wave numbers in which phase velocities of normal waves of the composite waveguide and the lowest normal wave of the elastic hollow cylinder coincide.  相似文献

散裂靶件作为加速器和次临界堆芯的耦合部件,是ADS系统相关研究最主要的组成部分之一。无窗靶巧妙地利用了液体的自由液面特性,避免了质子束对结构材料直接轰击,是一种很有前景的散裂靶靶件形式。采用水作为实验工质搭建了一套无窗散裂靶水模拟实验台架,该实验系统覆盖了无窗散裂靶水模拟实验所需的流量及压力条件,采用粒子图像测速仪(PIV) 对自由界面的流场进行可视化观察与分析,得到了自由界面的基本表征参数之间关系和可视化界面的流场信息。结果表明,无窗靶自由液面的位置和形状受到回路整体流量、压力和靶件几何尺寸的影响。As the coupling component between accelerator and subcritical core, the spallation target is of crucial importance to the operation safety of the whole system. Hence, the spallation target is one of the most important parts in ADS corresponding researches. Due to lifetime limitation of material, the windowless target which has a stable free surface attracts more and more attention. The present paper deals with the experimental investigation on the free surface behavior in an approximately 1:1 size windowless target model using water as test fluid. We can get the flow and pressure conditions of windowless spallation target water simulation experiment from the platform. The free surface and eld visualization were obtained by particle imaging velocimetry. The  results show that the position and  flow pattern of the free surface depend on experimental pressure, flow velocity and geometry of the target.  相似文献

The interaction of vortex filaments in an ideal incompressible fluid with the free surface of the latter is investigated in the canonical formalism. A Hamiltonian formulation of the equations of motion is given in terms of both canonical and noncanonical Poisson brackets. The relationship between these two approaches is analyzed. The Lagrangian of the system and the Poisson brackets are obtained in terms of vortex lines, making it possible to study the dynamics of thin vortex filaments with allowance for finite thickness of the filaments. For two-dimensional flows exact equations of motion describing the interaction of point vortices and surface waves are derived by transformation to conformal variables. Asymptotic steady-state solutions are found for a vortex moving at a velocity lower than the minimum phase velocity of surface waves. It is found that discrete coupled states of surface waves above a vortex are possible by virtue of the inhomogeneous Doppler effect. At velocities higher than the minimum phase velocity the buoyant rise of a vortex as a result of Cherenkov radiation is described in the semiclassical limit. The effect of a plane free surface on the multicritical behavior of Ising-like systems with two coupled fluctuating order parameters is analyzed. Homogeneous and weakly disordered systems are considered. The multicritical points at the junctions of bulk and surface phase transition lines are defined. The results of calculations of vibrational properties of cobalt dimers and trimers on the Cu(110) surface are reported. The local phonon density of states and their polarizations are analyzed. The calculations are performed using interatomic interaction potentials constructed in a tight-binding approximation. It was shown that the vibrational modes of the free standing dimer and trimer remain in the supported clusters but the revealed anisotropy of the local surface relaxation leads to deformation of the interatomic bonds and, as a result, to splitting and shifting of the phonon frequencies. We study the free surface of a turbulent channel flow, in particular, the relation between the statistical properties of the wrinkled surface and those of the velocity field beneath it. For an irregular flow shed off a vertical cylinder, surface indentations are strongly correlated with vortices in the subsurface flow. For fully developed turbulence this correlation is dramatically reduced. This is because the large eddies excite random capillary-gravity waves that travel in all directions across the surface. Both their predominant wavelength and their anisotropy are determined by the subsurface turbulence.  相似文献

In this paper a submerged horseshoe vortex under a free surface is discussed and the algebraic expression of the wave elevation is obtained. From this expression, some characteristics of the ship wave are described. There exists a smooth region near $\theta = 0^\circ$, but when the uniform stream passes the other singularities (source, sink, doublet, etc.) there is no smooth region. The mechanism of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images of the narrow ship wakes is also explained.  相似文献

Critical phenomena ind-dimensional ferromagnetic spherical models on hypercubic lattices with free surfaces are studied. The surface specific heat and surface susceptibilities are obtained. The exponents characterizing the divergence of these surface quantities at the bulk critical temperature are found to satisfy recently proposed scaling relations. The variation of the susceptibility with distance from the surface is also discussed. The author's recent scaling theory for surface properties is investigated in detail, and found to give an exact representation for the free energy of a three-dimensional spherical model of finite thickness in finite bulk and surface magnetic fields. Toroidal surface and biconic surface are employed increasingly, however their profile cannot be null tested easily for they are non-rotationally symmetrical. Null testing method with cylinder compensator is proposed to solve this problem. The theory of this method is revealed. The errors of this method are present. Three typical testing optical systems with cylinder compensator are demonstrated at last. The design results and total error indicate that this method is feasible.  相似文献
