We present an advanced theory of charge-exchange-caused dips (also called X-dips) in spectral lines from laser-produced plasmas. We compare predictions of this advanced theory with our previously published experimental results where, in the process of a laser irradiation of targets made out of aluminum carbide, we observed two X-dips in the L γ line of Al XIII perturbed by fully stripped carbon. We show that our advanced theory is in excellent agreement with our experimental results. From the practical point of view, our results open up a way to experimentally produce not-yet-available fundamental data on charge exchange between multicharged ions, virtually inaccessible by other experimental methods. From the theoretical viewpoint, the results are important because the X-dips are the only one signature of charge exchange in profiles of spectral lines emitted by plasmas and they are the only one quasimolecular phenomenon that could be observed at relatively “low” densities of laser-produced plasmas. Statistical properties of ion temperature gradient driven turbulence and anomalous flux are analysed in plasmas with low and improved energy confinement. The turbulence is simulated using the three dimensional fluid code, where the source is prescribed and the turbulence and temperature profile evolve self-consistently. The transition to the improved core confinement with an internal transport barrier is obtained by increasing the heating power. It is found that the momentums of the probability distribution function of flux fluctuations reduce to their Gaussian values when the transport barrier on the temperature profile forms. The formation of the oscillating structure with the properties of linear wave has been found at very high heating power. This work investigates the joint effects of jet engine exhaust-induced turbulence and atmospheric turbulence on the propagation of a partially coherent Gaussian Schell-model Array (GSMA) vortex beam. Using the two-process propagation method, analytical formulae are derived for the cross-spectral density, spectral density, degree of coherence, and beam width of the considered beam. The results show that the considered beam takes different shapes; when the spatial coherence is large, the spectral density of the GSMA vortex beam takes an elliptical shape, whereas when the spatial coherence is smaller, the spectral density remains a Gaussian shape. The evolution profile of the degree of coherence weakens gradually when the propagation distance, topological charge, and turbulence strength increase. Moreover, the profile of the degree of coherence takes the Gaussian profile when the propagation distance is longer or turbulence atmospheric is stronger. Furthermore, the results reveal that the corresponding beam spreads faster with a larger propagation distance, lower spatial coherence, and high-strength turbulence. This study also concludes from the results that the beam is affected more when its propagation is near the jet engine exhaust, which means that this latter has a significant impact.  相似文献

Characteristics of the Stark broadened and overlapping 447.1 nm He I spectral line and its forbidden 447.0 nm components have been measured at electron densities between 4.4×1022 m-3 and 8.2×1022 m-3 and electron temperatures between 18 000 K and 33 000 K in plasmas created in five various discharge conditions using the low pressure pulsed arc as an optically thin plasma source operated in helium-nitrogen-oxygen gas mixture. Good agreement was found among our measured line characteristics and their existing calculated values, based on the quasistatic approximation. Possible influence of the singly ionized oxygen impurity atoms (O II) on the intensity values of the dip between allowed and forbidden components was found that can explain the disagreement among some existing experimental and calculated line characteristics data, at higher electron temperatures and densities. On the basis of the observed asymmetry of the 447.1 nm spectral line profile we have obtained the ion contribution parameter at 1022 m-3 electron density and 8 000 K electron temperature. A mechanism of particle pinch for trace impurities in tokamak plasmas, arising from the effect of parallel velocity fluctuations in the presence of a turbulent electrostatic potential, is identified analytically by means of a reduced fluid model and verified numerically with a gyrokinetic code for the first time. The direction of such a pinch reverses as a function of the direction of rotation of the turbulence in agreement with the impurity pinch reversal observed in some experiments when moving from dominant auxiliary ion heating to dominant auxiliary electron heating.  相似文献

The question of how nonlinear interactions redistribute the energy of fluctuations across available degrees of freedom is of fundamental importance in the study of turbulence and transport in magnetized weakly collisional plasmas, ranging from space settings to fusion devices. In this Letter, we present a theory for the dual cascade found in such plasmas, which predicts a range of new behavior that distinguishes this cascade from that of neutral fluid turbulence. These phenomena are explained in terms of the constrained nature of spectral transfer in nonlinear gyrokinetics. Accompanying this theory are the first observations of these phenomena, obtained via direct numerical simulations using the gyrokinetic code AstroGK. The basic mechanisms that are found provide a framework for understanding the turbulent energy transfer that couples scales both locally and nonlocally.  相似文献

We amplify previous arguments why mean curvature should be used as measure of integration in calculating the effective bending rigidity of fluid membranes subjected to a weak background curvature. The stiffening of the membrane by its fluctuations, recently derived for spherical shapes, is recovered for cylindrical curvature. Employing curvilinear coordinates, we then discuss stiffening for arbitrary shapes, confirm that the elastic modulus of Gaussian curvature is not renormalized in the presence of fluctuations, and show for the first time that any spontaneous curvature also remains unchanged. We consider inertial particles suspended in an incompressible turbulent flow. Because of particles' inertia their flow is compressible, which leads to fluctuations of concentration significant for heavy particles. We show that the statistics of these fluctuations is independent of details of the velocity statistics, which allows us to predict that the particles cluster on the viscous scale of turbulence and describe the probability distribution of concentration fluctuations. We discuss the possible role of the clustering in the physics of atmospheric aerosols, in particular, in cloud formation.  相似文献

A theory of settling of a dilute suspension of identical spherical particles in a viscous incompressible fluid is developed on the basis of the equations of transient Stokesian dynamics. The equations describe hydrodynamic interactions between particles moving under the influence of a constant force, starting to act at a particular instant of time. For a dilute suspension, a monopole approximation can be used. It is argued that the growth of velocity fluctuations is bounded by a combination of two effects, destructive interference of the flow patterns of individual particles, and a rearrangement of particle positions leading to a time-dependent microstructure of the suspension. After a long time, the microstructure tends to a steady state. The corresponding structure factor is described phenomenologically. The corresponding pair correlation function and the velocity correlation functions describing axisymmetric turbulence on the length scale of the mean distance between particles are evaluated.  相似文献

Conclusions The available experimental data on spectral line broadening for monochromatic radio waves propagating in the circumsolar plasma indicate the presence within the spatial spectrum of plasma inhomogeneities of an internal turbulence scale, the effect of which manifests itself in the finite values of the moments of the energy density distribution over frequency and in normatization of the spectral line form in the strong signal scattering regime. Theoretical analysis of line broadening produced by moving inhomogeneities in the solar corona has established a relationship between the second and fourth moments of the spectrum and the turbulence characteristics, permitting determination of the radial profile of the internal inhomogeneity scale for a known velocity of motion. According to Venera 10 data, the internal turbulence scale of the circumsolar plasma is of the order of magnitude of several km at distances of 5–10 solar radii and increases sharply with radial distanee. The change in the value of the internal turbulence scale with distance is of the same type as the dependence of ionic gyroradius on distance to the sun.Analysis of spectral broadening of radio signals is an effective means of studying such characteristics of inhomogeneities in the circumsolar plasma as the form of the spatial spectrum, the intensity of inhomogeneities, their rate of motion, the internal turbulence scale, and the radial profiles of these quantities. Simultaneously, the peculiarities discovered in the behavior of the spatial spectrum of the inhomogeneities require the completion of a stricter analysis of line broadening with consideration of radial variation of both the internal and external turbulence scales, a process which may explain other peculiarities of the spectral broadening of radio signals in the moderate and intense scattering regimes.Institute of Radio Technology and Electronics, Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Observations of radio signals from distant pulsars provide a valuable tool for investigation of interstellar turbulence. The time shapes of the signals are the result of pulse broadening by the fluctuating electron density in the interstellar medium. While the scaling of the shapes with the signal frequency is well understood, the observed anomalous scaling with respect to the pulsar distance has remained a puzzle for more than 30 years. We propose a new model for interstellar electron density fluctuations, which explains the observed scaling relations. We suggest that these fluctuations obey Lévy statistics rather than Gaussian statistics, as assumed in previous treatments of interstellar scintillations.  相似文献

We will in this Letter report on suggestive similarities between density fluctuation power versus wavenumber on small (mm) and large (Mpc) scales. The small scale measurements were made in fusion plasmas and compared to predictions from classical fluid turbulence theory. The data is consistent with the dissipative range of 2D turbulence. Alternatively, the results can be fitted to a functional form that cannot be explained by turbulence theory. The large scale measurements were part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey galaxy redshift examination. We found that the equations describing fusion plasmas also hold for the galaxy data. The comparable dependency of density fluctuation power on wavenumber in fusion plasmas and galaxies might indicate a common origin of these fluctuations.  相似文献

With consideration of the effects of the atomic process and the sight line direction on the charge exchange re-combination spectroscopy (CXRS), a code used to modify the poloidal CXRS measurement on Tokamak-60 Upgrade (JT-60U) in Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute is developed, offering an effective tool to modify the measurement and analyse experimental results further. The results show that the poloidal velocity of ion is overestimated but the ion temperature is underestimated by the poloidal CXRS measurement, and they also indicate that the effect of observation angle on rotation velocity is a dominant one in a core region (r/a 〈 0.65), whereas in an edge region where the sight line is nearly normal to the neutral beam, the observation angle effect is very small. The difference between the modified velocity and the neoclassical velocity is not larger than the error in measurement. The difference inside the internal transport barrier (ITB) region is 2-3 times larger than that outside the ITB region, and it increases when the effect of excited components in neutral beam is taken into account. The radial electric field profile is affected greatly by the poloidal rotation term, which possibly indicates the correlation between the poloidal rotation and the transport barrier formation.[第一段]  相似文献

Flowmeter measurement using the ultrasonic transit-time method is based on the apparent difference of the sound velocity in the flow direction and in the opposite direction. This method gives a flow velocity averaged along a particular acoustical path. To convert this path velocity to a velocity averaged over the entire cross-section of the flowing medium, the knowledge of the flow velocity profile is essential. However, the acoustical paths joining the two transducers are supposed to be straight and fluid turbulence phenomena are neglected. In this paper, we describe a numerical procedure to estimate the uncertainties due to these approximations in the case of fully developed turbulence. The ultrasonic propagation is modelled in 2-D moving inhomogeneous media via a ray tracing algorithm. Influence of mean profiles of temperature and velocity is studied on simple examples. Fluid temperature fluctuations and fluid velocity turbulence are considered in the stochastic framework to obtain average uncertainties on the measurements of the liquid flow rate.  相似文献

We investigate the statistical properties of cosmic baryon fluid in the nonlinear regime, which is crucial for understanding the large-scale structure formation of the Universe. With the hydrodynamic simulation sample of the Universe in the cold dark matter model with a cosmological constant, we show that the intermittency of the velocity field of cosmic baryon fluid at redshift z = 0 in the scale range from the Jeans length to about 16 h(-1) Mpc can be extremely well described by She-Leveque's universal scaling formula. The baryon fluid also possesses the following features: (1) for volume weight statistics, the dissipative structures are dominated by sheets, and (2) the relation between the intensities of fluctuations is hierarchical. These results imply that the evolution of highly evolved cosmic baryon fluid is similar to a fully developed turbulence.  相似文献

Interfaces moving in a disordered medium exhibit stochastic velocity fluctuations obeying universal scaling relations related to the presence or absence of conservation laws. For fluid invasion of porous media, we show that the fluctuations of the velocity are governed by a geometry-dependent length scale arising from fluid conservation. This result is compared to the statistics resulting from a nonequilibrium (depinning) transition between a moving interface and a stationary, pinned one.  相似文献

A systematic study of the Langmuir-wave-caused dips (L dips) observed in profiles of the Al Ly γ line emitted from laser irradiated sandwich targets indicates that these fine spectral features can be used as a tool for density diagnostics in intermediately coupled plasmas. The spectroscopic data required for a reliable identification of L dips were collected by a vertical-geometry Johann spectrometer providing high spectral and spatial resolution. The electron densities deduced from the evolution of the L dips along the laser target axis compare well with those derived from hydrosimulations and from measurements of the line widths and shifts.  相似文献

In this paper we present explicit formulas for the escape factors of strong spectral lines in spherical-symmetric plasmas. The plasma does not necessarily have a homogeneous density. The calculations include two new elements: the first incorporates an accurate calculation of the angle-averaged areal density of ions from any internal point to the edge of the sphere. The second is the use of a saddle point method to carry out the integration over the line profile. Approximate expressions for the asymptotic behavior of the escape factor are given for Gaussian, Lorentzian and Holtsmarkian line shapes.  相似文献
