A tunable multiwavelength fiber ring laser based on a semiconductor optical amplifier and Sagnac loop mirror incorporating a piece of few-mode high birefringence fiber (FM-HBF) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It is accomplished by simply adjusting a polarization controller in the Sagnac loop mirror because birefringence of the FM-HBF is polarization dependent. Tunable multiwavelength operation up to 11 oscillating lines at about 2.1 nm interval is stably achieved with an optical side-mode suppression ratio over 35 dB.  相似文献

A particular example of the so-called minimum-configuration fiber ring interferometer whose loop comprises two different-length segments of a single-mode optical fiber with the same linear birefringence but different twisting is used to show that even in the case where the birefringence axes at the loop input coincide with the polarizer transmission direction, the phenomenon of polarization nonreciprocity of the fiber ring interferometer can emerge. It is shown that polarization nonreciprocity can be eliminated by the proper adjustment of the axes of a single-mode optical fiber, but the above adjustment should be changed if the waveguide temperature is changed. It is also shown that polarization nonreciprocity is a function of the light wavelength and the polarization nonreciprocity value in a fiber ring interferometer varies quasiperiodically in response to the temperature change in an optical fiber with random irregularities.  相似文献

A numerical investigation of group birefringence is carried out on a recently reported highly birefringent hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber by use of an efficient vector finite-element method. The hollow fiber core has an area as large as that of approximately four airholes in the cladding region and assumes a rhombic shape with round corners, and the airholes in the cladding region are hexagonal and provide a high air-filling fraction. Numerical results show very high group birefringence of the order of 10(-2) and phase birefringence of the order of 10(-3).  相似文献

Based on the photoinduced birefringence in azo materials, the model of the birefringent long period fiber gratings (BLPFGs) has been proposed and the transmission of such birefringent fiber gratings was further simulated by the coupled mode theory. In order to obtain the optimum condition for making birefringent azopolymer optical fiber (APOF) gratings the photoinduced birefringence of azo dye and methyl methacrylate (MMA) copolymers was systematically studied. After photosensitivity study of azo samples, using Teflon technique, azo dye containing single mode polymer optical fiber (POF) was fabricated. Finally, BLPFGs can be fabricated in azopolymer fiber using polarized 532 nm laser. A 120 μm LPFG with a 50% duty cycle has been successfully written within the core of the fiber with 532 nm laser by an amplitude mask method. Under polarized microphotography, the grating was observed when the optical axis was set at 45° with the direction of the first polarizing lens of the polarization microscope.  相似文献

A fiber optic integrated modulation-depth-tunable modulator based on a type of hollow optical fiber with suspended core is proposed and investigated. We synthesized magnetic fluid containing superparamagnetic Fe(3)O(4) nanoparticles and encapsulated it in the hollow optical fiber as the cladding layer of the suspended core by fusing the hollow optical fiber with the multimode optical fibers. The light with a wavelength of 632.8 nm is coupled in and out of the modulating element by a tapering technique. Experimental results show that the light attenuation in the system can be greatly influenced by only 2.0×10(-2) μL of the magnetic fluid under different magnetic field strengths. The saturated modulation depth is 43% when the magnetic field strength is 489 Oe. The response time of the system is <120 ms. Significantly, this work presents information for the development of all-fiber modulators, including other integrated electro-optic devices, such as optical switch, optical fiber filter, and magnetic sensors utilizing the special structure of this hollow optical fiber with suspended core and superparamagnetic magnetic fluid.  相似文献

为探究如何消除双芯光波导的模间色散,提出了一种纤芯填充高折射率溶液的双空芯光子晶体光纤,并基于全矢量有限元法进行了理论分析,获得了光纤的模式有效折射率、耦合系数、模间色散系数。研究结果表明:当纤芯所填充的溶液折射率为1.40时,光纤的y偏振方向上模间色散在800 nm传输波长处为零,理论上能够完全消除y偏振方向上模间色散导致的脉冲畸变。即,当传输光波长为800 nm时,这种光纤在y偏振方向上可以抑制模间色散,从而可以广泛用于全光开关、超短脉冲传输、光孤子传输等应用场合。  相似文献

通过在纤芯附近引入两个直径较大的空气孔诱导纤芯局部双折射,在包层减小x方向的孔间隔诱导包层双折射,设计实现了一种高双折射随波长可调效应的微结构光纤.采用全矢量平面波方法,以聚合物甲基丙烯酸甲酯为基材,对其偏振特性和基模模场进行了研究.结果发现,该光纤基模双折射在光通信波段呈现两个最大值,且最大双折射大小和位置随光纤结构和波长的变化可以进行调节.通过调节光纤结构参数,模拟得到了该光纤具有高双折射和零偏振模色散的最佳设计参数. 关键词: 导波与光纤光学 双折射可调 聚合物 全矢量平面波法  相似文献

具体分析了具有高数值孔径的双芯光纤的双折射特性。首先利用超格子正交函数法和耦合模理论分析了双芯光纤的几何双折射,并将两种方法计算的几何双折射进行了比较分析。数值计算结果表明双芯光纤在两纤芯非常接近的情况下,几何双折射仍较小,只能到10-5量级。利用超格子正交函数法计算了双椭圆芯光纤的双折射,改变结构参量可使几何双折射达到10-4量级。高的数值孔径需要高的掺锗量,理论上分析了高数值孔径时双芯光纤功率集中区域的应力双折射,应力双折射接近10-4量级。设计制作出了具有良好保偏性能的双芯掺铒光纤,测试、分析了它的几何参量和折射率分布;双芯光纤双折射系数达到了8.4×10-5。双芯掺铒光纤可以作为保偏掺铒光纤,应用到制作具有稳定的单一偏振态输出的光纤激光器。  相似文献

A liquid core optical fiber (LCOF) composed of hollow fiber and a solution of Eu(TTA)(3)Phen (TTA=2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone, Phen=1, 10-phenanthroline) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) has been fabricated, in which the concentration of Eu(TTA)(3)Phen in DMSO is 0.8 wt.%, the core diameter of the LCOF is 10 μm, and the fiber length is 8.1 cm. By the end pumping with a diode-pumped solid-state laser at 355 nm, a small optical signal at 613 nm was amplified with a gain of 8.2 dB at a pump power of 203 mW. Based on this experimental result, a liquid core optical fiber amplifier can be realized by the LCOF, which has wide potential applications in many optical devices.  相似文献

设计了一种高双折射高非线性纳米结构光子晶体光纤,利用电磁场散射的多极理论研究了这种光纤的双折射、基模模场、色散以及非线性特性.数值研究发现,加大纤芯及包层空气孔的非对称程度,可使双折射变大,其双折射最大值可达1.918×10-2.通过调节孔节距大小,可将双折射最大值调至所需波长处,孔节距为400nm的纳米光子晶体光纤在800nm波长处非线性系数高达0.2m-1.W-1,同时在750—1000nm的波段有较大的双折射值,高双折射和高非线性在纳米结构光子晶体光纤中实现了完美的结合.对新型纳米光子器件的研制和集成光学的发展具有重要意义.  相似文献

利用Sagnac干涉原理的分布式光纤传感器是一种可用于长途油气管线侵入、泄漏探测和定位的新技术.为了克服屏蔽和隔离Sagnac光纤环中未用作传感的那一半光纤所带来的屏蔽困难、成本增加等问题,提出一种单轴分布式光纤传感器的方法.其原理是利用一条光纤代替光纤环,并在光纤尾端设置法拉第旋转镜,构成偏振无关Sagnac干涉仪探测和定位管线泄漏.文中详细分析和讨论了该方法的系统光路和探测定位原理.  相似文献

A microstructured polymer optical fiber (mPOF) with both ultra-flattened near-zero chromatic dispersion and high birefringence based on Topas cyclic olefin copolymer is designed. Three rings of uniform elliptical air holes are arranged in triangular lattice in the cladding and an extra small defected hole is introduced in the fiber core. Guided modes, dispersion, birefringence and mode confinement properties of the designed mPOF are investigated by using the full-vector finite element method. Dispersion values between ± 0.5 ps/km/nm over the wavelength 1.1-1.7 μm and high birefringence of the order of 10−3 are obtained for the optimized fiber structure. Low confinement losses and small effective mode area are obtained at the same time. The relatively simple architecture of the proposed Topas mPOF can be fabricated by our extrusion-stretching techniques.  相似文献

Without the need of any other additional filtering device, a triple-wavelength switchable erbium-doped fiber ring laser based on Sagnac loop mirror incorporating a piece of few-mode high birefringence fiber is newly proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Three potential lasing wavelengths at about 2.0 nm interval with the side mode suppression ratio higher than 40 dB can be switched mainly by adjusting a polarization controller next to the few-mode high birefringence fiber in the Sagnac loop. In addition to the stable single-line lasing operation, simultaneous dual- and triple-line oscillations are also highly stable at room temperature with suppressing the intrinsic homogeneous gain broadening of the erbium-doped fiber.  相似文献

A novel high birefringence polymer photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed in this work. This PCF is composed of a polymer core and a cladding with elliptical air holes and squeezed triangular lattice. The high birefringence is introduced on the combined effect of elliptical air holes and the squeezed lattice. Our numerical results based on the supercell lattice method indicate that the birefringence can reach as high as 0.0018 at 650 nm wavelength with a properly designed cladding structure. We also analyze the dependence of the birefringence on structure parameters. And we design a PCF that has high and flattened birefringence.  相似文献

We fabricate an elliptical hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber (EC-PBGF) with a core-wall thickness of 65 nm and an aspect ratio of 1.4. The core is expanded by applying positive pressure in the hollow-core region during the fiber-drawing process. Both the reduction of core-wall thickness and the increase of aspect ratio result in the enhancement of optical properties in terms of a low attenuation loss and group birefringence. The minimum loss and group birefringence of the fabricated EC-PBGF2 are measured to be 0.1 dB/m and 0.012, respectively.  相似文献

报道了圆芯边孔光纤(CSF)中应力分布和双折射的研究结果。用有限元法建立了求解圆芯边孔光纤横截面应力和双折射的计算模型,分析了圆芯边孔光纤横截面应力和应力双折射的分布形态,给出了详尽的物理解释。计算结果表明圆芯边孔光纤的横截面上出现应力分量的拉应力区和压应力区,应力区在纤芯附近对称分布,且不同应力区中应力双折射取向不同。应力分量和应力双折射在圆芯边孔光纤横截面上积分为零。圆芯边孔光纤的几何双折射随波长增加而增大,短波长处几何双折射为零,模式双折射等于应力双折射,随着波长增加,模式双折射逐渐偏离纤芯中心处应力双折射而靠近几何双折射,到长波长处模式双折射主要是几何双折射。对于不同材料组成和结构尺寸的圆芯边孔光纤,模式双折射的数值在10-5量级,随波长增加模式双折射先减小后增加。  相似文献

A semiconductor liquid-core optical fiber has been made by simply filling the hollow core of a capillary waveguide with nanoparticles suspended in toluene media. Under a low continuous optical power excitation at 532 nm, the emission of PbSe particles was clearly demonstrated in the infrared region and then partially maintained in the core of the fiber by the total internal reflection mechanism. Finally, due to the guided propagation, which results in multiple absorption effects, a linear shift of the emission peak toward longer wavelengths was observed (~0.32 nm/cm). As a proof of concept, this original demonstration of visible-to-infrared conversion could lead to the development of active fibered devices at wavelengths not covered by the conventional rare-earth ion doping.  相似文献

We demonstrate a high-sensitivity broadband (1250-1650 nm) fiber micro-Michelson interferometer using a single-mode fiber end-spliced with a sphered-end hollow-core fiber. The hollow core is slightly smaller than the solid core of a single-mode fiber, so the fractional power of the core mode is converted into cladding modes. The excited cladding modes propagate at distinct optical paths along the hollow-core fiber and have individual foci outside the spherical lens. The reflected core mode, generated at the solid core-air interface, and the reflected cladding modes, generated at external material, interfere with each other to produce beating in the interference signals.  相似文献

We demonstrate experimentally the operation of a linear cavity dual-wavelength fiber laser using a polarization maintaining fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG) as an end mirror that defines two closely spaced laser emission lines. The PM-FBG is also used to tune the laser wavelengths. The total tuning range is ∼8 nm. The laser operates in a stable dual-wavelength mode for an appropriate adjustment of the cavity losses for the generated wavelengths. The high birefringence (Hi-Bi) fiber optical loop mirror (FOLM) is used as a tunable spectral filter to adjust the losses. The FOLM adjustment was performed by the temperature control of the Hi-Bi fiber.  相似文献

设计了一种新型结构低色散高双折射光子晶体光纤,该光纤纤芯缺失一根空气柱,包层沿光纤长度方向排布压缩六角点阵椭圆空气孔.采用全矢量平面波法,对其色散和双折射特性进行了数值模拟.研究发现,通过改变光纤结构参数,即改变六角点阵压缩比ξ、相对孔间隔f和空气孔椭圆率η,可以调节该光纤低色散高双折射工作波长.若调整光纤结构参数ξ=048, f=035, η=055, x方向孔间隔Λx=12 μm时,该光纤呈现低色散高双折射效应,在1360—167 关键词: 导波与光纤光学 全矢量平面波法 低色散高双折射 六角点阵压缩比  相似文献
