A rapid scanning autocorrelation interferometer for measurements of picosecond laser pulses is described which uses a rotating prism as scanning device in one arm of the interferometer to permit continuous display of autocorrelation traces at audio frequencies on an oscilloscope. Scan widths of more than 500 ps with high linearity can be achieved. Autocorrelation measurements of picosecond pulses from a synchronously pumped mode-locked dye laser are presented.  相似文献

We report on the formation of spatial optical solitons in photorefractive media using picosecond laser pulses. Solitons are generated with laser pulses in the visible and infrared wavelength region using photorefractive strontium barium niobate. Small signal and saturated gains of picosecond pulses in Rhodamine dye amplifiers have been measured. A 17 cm amplifier produces a maximum small signal gain of ≈20, and with three amplifiers in series, peak pulse powers of > 3 GW are obtained. Mode-locking of Rhodamine 6G in the spectral range 575–600 nm is improved by employing DQOCI as saturable absorber.  相似文献

The attenuation of ultrashort laser pulses by two-photon absorption is theoretically described when a dye is used as the absorbing medium. It is shown that two-photon absorption also yields an intensity stabilization of low repetition rate laser emissions without a significant loss of power. Consequently this technique is proposed for pulse attenuation and stabilization near the damage threshold of second harmonic generator crystals, and its performance is theoretically compared with other attenuation methods.  相似文献

Rotation-free transmission measurements governed by ground-state recovery of coumarin 102, coumarin 138 and coumarin 339 dyes in ethanol solutions were performed for the first time by pump-probe technique using 35 ps pulses of Nd:YAG laser at 355 nm. Recovery of absorption is characterized by simple exponential behaviour with relaxation times of 4.0, 3.7 and 3.0 ns respectively for C 102, C 138 and C 339. These values are comparable to the lifetimes of the first excited singlet states.  相似文献

Interaction between a picosecond laser pulse of nonrelativistic intensity with a thin target is studied in terms of the kinetic theory of laser plasma, which is based on constructing propagators for the plasma particle distribution functions. Allowance is made for both the self-consistent plasma field and plasma particle correlations (collisions). The interaction causes charge separation in the target and strong heating of electrons.  相似文献

Plasma-mediated ablations of brain tissue have been performed using picosecond laser pulses obtained from a Nd:YLF oscillator/regenerative amplifier system. The laser pulses had a pulse duration of 35 ps at a wavelength of 1.053 µm. The pulse energy varied from 90 µJ to 550 µJ at a repetition rate of 400 Hz. The energy density at the ablation threshold was measured to be 20 J/cm2. Comparisons have been made to 19 ps laser pulses at 1.68 µm and 2.92 µm from an OPG/OPA system and to microsecond pulse trains at 2.94 µm from a free running Er:YAG laser. Light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were performed to judge the depth and the quality of the ablated cavities. No thermal damage was induced by either of the picosecond laser systems. The Er:YAG laser, on the other hand, showed 20 µm wide lateral damage zones due to the longer pulse durations and the higher pulse energies.  相似文献

The relaxation time τR of the saturable dye used to mode-lock a Nd: YAG laser has been changed using different dyes or dye solvent mixtures and the laser bandwidth Δω changed by the insertion of an etalon. The pulse duration τp was approximately transform-limited for τR<2π/Δω but increased to about twice this value when 2π/Δω<τpR. No significant increase in pulse duration was observed for τR?2π/Δω but multiple pulses were generated within each round-trip-transit-time.  相似文献

We investigate the electronic and ionic dynamics of Na clusters under the influence of a laser pulse in the range 100 femtoseconds to picoseconds. The dynamics is described by means of the time-dependent local-density approximation coupled to ionic molecular dynamics (TDLDA-MD). Variation of pulse length allows us to explore the time scales of ionic motion in a manner similar to pump and probe experiments. The Ni-like Ag 13.9nm x-ray laser has been previously demonstrated that the higher gain near critical surface contributes little to the amplification of the x-ray laser because of severe refraction. In this paper, the transient collision excitation (TCE) Ni-like Ag 13.9nm x-ray laser is simulated, driven by two 3ps short pulse preceded by a 330ps long prepulse, optimization of the peak to peak delay time of the two short pulses is made to get the best results. Simulation indicates that by producing lowly ionized preplasma with smoothly varying electron density, it is possible to decrease electron density gradient in higher density region, and thus higher gains near this region could be utilized, and if the main short pulse is delayed by 900ps, local gains where electron density larger than ~ 4×1020cm-3 could be utilized.  相似文献
