The buckling problem of an infinite thin plate resting on a tensionless Winkler foundation and subjected to shearing loads is investigated. The infinite plate is simplified to a one-dimensional mechanical model by assuming a lateral buckling mode function and a borderline function between contact and non-contact regions. After the governing differential equations for the plate sections in the contact and non-contact regions have been solved, the problem reduces to two nonlinear algebraic equations. Buckling coefficients for plates with simply supported edges and clamped edges are determined for a range of relative foundation stiffness factors. Comparison of the results with existing theory and finite element analyses shows good agreement.  相似文献

This paper presents an analytical investigation on the buckling analysis of symmetric sandwich plates with functionally graded material (FGM) face sheets resting on an elastic foundation based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) and subjected to mechanical, thermal and thermo-mechanical loads. The material properties of FGM face sheets are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The core layer is still homogeneous and made of an isotropic material. An analytical approach is used to reduce the governing equations of stability and then solved using an analytical solution which is named as power series Frobenius method for symmetric sandwich plates with six different boundary conditions. A detailed numerical study is carried out to examine the influence of the plate aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio, loading type, sandwich plate type, volume fraction index, elastic foundation coefficients and boundary conditions on the buckling response of FGM sandwich plates. This has not been done before and serves to fill the gap of knowledge in this area.  相似文献

Compressive strength of edge-loaded corrugated board panels   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
Postbuckling strength of simply supported corrugated board panels subjected to edge compressive loading has been studied experimentally using a specially developed test fixture. Although the load versus out-of-plane displacement response was highly sensitive to the presence of initial imperfections in the panels, the collapse loads did not vary much, which is attributed to the stable postbuckling behavior of the plates. Thin plates collapsed at nearly twice the buckling load, while thick panels collapsed at loads below the elastic critical buckling load. Local buckling of the facing on the concave side of the buckled plate was observed at load levels close to the collapse load. The plate collapse was triggered by compressive failure of the facings that initiated at the unloaded edges. A simplified design analysis was derived based on approximate postbuckling analysis and compared with an existing design formula for corrugated board panels and boxes.  相似文献

Post-buckling behaviour of sandwich plates with functionally graded material (FGM) face sheets under uniform temperature rise loading is considered. It is assumed that the plate is in contact with a Pasternak-type elastic foundation during deformation, which acts in both compression and tension. The derivation of equations is based on the first-order shear deformation plate theory. Thermomechanical non-homogeneous properties of FGM layers vary smoothly by the distribution of power law across the thickness, and temperature dependency of material constituents is taken into account. Using the non-linear von-Karman strain-displacement relations, the equilibrium and compatibility equations of imperfect sandwich plates with FGM face sheets are derived. The boundary conditions for the plate are assumed to be simply supported in all edges. The governing equations are reduced to two coupled equation in terms of stress function and lateral deflection. Employing the single mode approach combined with Galerkin technique, an approximate closed-form solution is presented to calculate the critical buckling temperature and post-buckling equilibrium path of the plate. Presented numerical examples contain the influences of power law index, sandwich plate geometry, geometrical imperfection, temperature dependency, and the elastic foundation coefficients.  相似文献

A finite strip method is presented for calculating the linear buckling stresses of structural assemblies of long, thin plate components which, in general, are curved and which are rigidly joined together at their longitudinal edges. It is assumed that on buckling under the action of a biaxial direct stress field the perturbation forces and displacements all vary sinusoidally in the longitudinal direction. A stiffness matrix relating the amplitudes of the perturbation forces and displacements is developed for the curved strip on the further assumption of relatively high-order polynomial variations of the displacement components around the plate width. Numerical results are presented of the application of the curved strip in calculating the buckling stresses of plates, cylinders, panels and formed sections.  相似文献

In this research work, an exact analytical solution for buckling of functionally graded rectangular plates subjected to non-uniformly distributed in-plane loading acting on two opposite simply supported edges is developed. It is assumed that the plate rests on two-parameter elastic foundation and its material properties vary through the thickness of the plate as a power function. The neutral surface position for such plate is determined, and the classical plate theory based on exact neutral surface position is employed to derive the governing stability equations. Considering Levy-type solution, the buckling equation reduces to an ordinary differential equation with variable coefficients. An exact analytical solution is obtained for this equation in the form of power series using the method of Frobenius. By considering sufficient terms in power series, the critical buckling load of functionally graded plate with different boundary conditions is determined. The accuracy of presented results is verified by appropriate convergence study, and the results are checked with those available in related literature. Furthermore, the effects of power of functionally graded material, aspect ratio, foundation stiffness coefficients and in-plane loading configuration together with different combinations of boundary conditions on the critical buckling load of functionally graded rectangular thin plate are studied.  相似文献

Plates are susceptible to buckling under compression when the thickness dimension becomes sufficiently small. Such mode of structure failure can prevail even if the plates were extended in tension. Wribkling of stretched thin sheets is a commonly observed phenomenon that leads to complex deflection patterns, particularly in regions close to crack-like imperfections. Predictions of the buckled displacement modes for plates weakened by cracks will be made on the basis of a theory formulated by application of variational calculus. Finite element method is used such that defects of other shapes can also be analyzed. Various buckled displacement modes of a center-cracked plate are determined and displayed graphically. The critical buckling loads are found to decrease with increasing crack size. Moreover, local wrinkling of the plate surface becomes less pronounced for the higher buckling modes. The method of solution applies equally well to plates that are initially curved.  相似文献

The post-buckling behaviour of anisotropic stiffened panels with initial imperfections is investigated. Since buckling of the skin between the stiffeners often occurs first, a non-linear analysis is developed for symmetric panels under biaxial compression in order to obtain the out-of-plane panel deflection in the post-buckling range. The non-linear differential equations are expressed in terms of the out-of-plane displacement and the Airy function. They are solved with the Galerkin method for various boundary conditions by imposing an edge displacement control. The theoretical and experimental results obtained by the present analysis show that the transverse load can greatly influence the buckling loads and halfwave number. Since no experimental results have been found in the literature, several tests have been carried out on graphite/epoxy blade stiffened panels 900 mm long and 620 mm wide applying simultaneously biaxial compression loads with several combined ratios. An eccentricity results between longitudinal and transverse load, because the longitudinal compression is applied along the centroidal axes of the stiffened section while the transverse compression is applied to the skin panel. The correlation between the experimental and analytical results has been quite good; the experimental results demonstrate the influence of eccentricity of the transverse load on panel deflection in the pre- and post-buckling range.  相似文献

Truss-core sandwich plates have received much attention in virtue of the high values of strength-to-weight and stifness-to-weight as well as the great ability of impulseresistance recently. It is necessary to study the stability of sandwich panels under the influence of the thermal load. However, the sandwich plates are such complex threedimensional(3D) systems that direct analytical solutions do not exist, and the finite element method(FEM) cannot represent the relationship between structural parameters and mechanical properties well. In this paper, an equivalent homogeneous continuous plate is idealized by obtaining the efective bending and transverse shear stifness based on the characteristics of periodically distributed unit cells. The first order shear deformation theory for plates is used to derive the stability equation. The buckling temperature of a simply supported sandwich plate is given and verified by the FEM. The efect of related parameters on mechanical properties is investigated. The geometric parameters of the unit cell are optimized to attain the maximum buckling temperature. It is shown that the optimized sandwich plate can improve the resistance to thermal buckling significantly.  相似文献

Abstract

An analytical model is proposed to analyze the vibration and buckling problem of partially cracked thin orthotropic microplate in the presence of thermal environment. The differential governing equation for the cracked plate is derived using the classical plate theory in conjunction with the strain gradient theory of elasticity. The crack is modeled using appropriate crack compliance coefficients based on the simplified line spring model. The influence of thermal environment is incorporated in governing equation in form thermal moments and in-plane compressive forces. The governing equation for cracked plate has been solved analytically to get fundamental frequency and central deflection of plate. To demonstrate the accuracy of the present model, few comparison studies are carried out with the published literature. The stability and dynamic characteristics of the cracked plate are studied considering various parameters such as crack length, plate thickness, change in temperature, and internal length scale of microstructure. It has been concluded that the frequency and deflection are affected by crack length, temperature, and internal length scale of microstructure. Furthermore, to study the buckling behavior of cracked plate, the classical relations for critical buckling load and critical buckling temperature is also proposed considering the effect of crack length, temperature, and internal length scale of microstructure.  相似文献

Analysis and test results for the compliance of the sandwich plate twist test are presented. The analysis utilizes classical laminated plate theory (CLPT) and finite element analysis (FEA). It is shown that CLPT greatly underestimates the plate compliance, except when very stiff cores and compliant face sheets are used, as a result of transverse core shear deformation, not accounted for in this theory. Parametric studies are conducted using FEA to examine the influence of transverse shear moduli of the core and specimen dimensions on the plate compliance. The influences of indentation at load introduction and support locations, and overhang (oversized panel) are also examined. A test fixture is designed where two diagonally opposite corners of the panel are loaded, while the other two corners are supported to provide twisting deformation of the panel. Tests were conducted on square sandwich panels consisting of aluminum face sheets over various PVC foam cores. CLPT was found to greatly underestimate the experimental plate compliance. Finite element predictions of the plate compliance were in much closer agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

Based on the elasto-plastic theory, considering the effect of spherical stress tensor on the elasto-plastic deformation and using the slicing treatment to deal with the plasticity of functionally graded coatings, the elasto-plastic increment constitutive equations of the sandwich plates with functionally graded metal-metal face sheets can be derived. Applying the weak bonded theory to the interfacial constitutive relation and taking into account the geometric nonlinearity, the nonlinear increment differential equilibrium equations of the sandwich plates with functionally graded metal-metal face sheets are obtained by the minimum potential energy principle. The finite difference method and the iterative method are used to obtain the post-buckling path. When the effect of geometrical nonlinearity of the plate is ignored, the elasto-plastic critical buckling load of the sandwich plates with functionally graded metal-metal face sheets can be solved by the Galerkin method and the iterative method. In the numerical examples, the effects of the interface damages, the induced load ratio, the functionally graded index, and the geometry parameters on the elasto-plastic post-buckling path and the elasto-plastic critical buckling load are investigated.  相似文献

对11种构型的民用飞机机身加筋曲板在轴压载荷下后屈曲承载能力进行了试验和工程算法研究,深入探索了机身壁板的各种破坏模式,对极限法、Johnson)物线法与欧拉法三种工程算法比较,并且把试验结果与计算结果进行了对比。研究结果表明:壁板后屈曲轴压许用值与桁条剖面积和蒙皮厚度成线形关系,主要取决于桁条剖面积;蒙皮的局部屈曲应力对初始缺陷敏感,但局部屈曲应力的偏差对壁板的轴压破坏载荷影响不明显;与工程计算结果对比发现Johnson抛物线法计算的破坏轴压与试验结果吻合较好。  相似文献

In the present paper, an advanced geometrically nonlinear shell theory of doubly curved structural sandwich panels with transversely compressible core is presented. The model is based on the adoption of the Kirchhoff theory for the face sheets and a second/third order power series expansion for the core displacements. The theory accounts for dynamic effects as well as for initial geometric imperfections. In the v. Kármán sense, large displacement theory is employed with respect to the transverse direction while the displacement gradients with respect to the tangential directions are assumed to be small. The equations of motion are derived by means of Hamilton’s principle and hold valid for all types of elastic and elastic–plastic material models. The theory is illustrated by an analysis of the elastic buckling and postbuckling behavior of flat and curved sandwich panels using an extended Galerkin scheme. Owing to the assumed transverse flexibility of the core, both the global and the local (face wrinkling) instability modes can be addressed.  相似文献

Summary When the corrugated diaphragm is replaced by a fictitious flat plate of similar properties it is possible to derive a linear differential equation for the deflection. The coefficients of this equation, however, vary in a complicated way and its solution for the pressure-loaded diaphragm is only given for thick and for thin sheets separately. For thick sheets the profile of the corrugation appears to be inessential, whereas for thin sheets it is necessary to distinguish between trapezoidal, triangular and arc-shaped corrugations. By an obvious device the results for thick and for thin sheets are fitted together, so that the deflection can also be determined for the intermediate range of medium sheet thickness. The final results of the present calculation are compared with measurements carried out by others and are found to be in satisfactory agreement with the experiments.It is to be remarked that, compared on the basis of small deflections, the introduction of corrugations into the sheet leads to a considerable increase of rigidity of the diaphragm. The prevailing assertion that the flat plate is more rigid than the corrugated diaphragm holds only for large deflections, because of the non-linearity between the load and the deflection of the flat plate.  相似文献

The stability of clamped stepped and stiffened rectangular plate subjected to in-plane forces is examined. The plate is divided into 900 rectangular meshes and the partial derivatives are approximated using central difference formula. Altogether 841 equations of equilibrium and 248 equations representing boundary conditions are formed, finally leading to the solution of eigenvalue problem. The buckling coefficients are calculated for various types of stepped plates and the results are presented in tables for ready use by designers. The results are compared with the published results and they are in close agreement.  相似文献
