通过对从开放的V型双泵浦系统的定态解析解得到的数值计算结果的分析表明:1)驱动场相位将涨落导致一个有限线宽;一般说来,被探测场耦合的上下两能级间的粒子数差随线宽的增加而减小,当线宽增加到一定值时,系统将发生从传统的反转激光到无反转激光的转化;线宽的增加将使无反转激光增益降低;当线宽不为零时,仍可产生无吸收高色散(折射率)2)线宽变化对增益、色散和粒子数差影响的性质和大小与系统其它参量的取值密切相关,只有适当选择线宽和系统其它参量的值才能获得最大的无反转激光增益和无吸收高色散(折射率). 相似文献

We present a five-level atomic system in which the index of refraction of a probe laser can be enhanced or reduced below unity with vanishing absorption in the region between pairs of absorption and gain lines formed by dressing of the atoms with a control laser and rf/microwave fields. By weak incoherent pumping of the population into a single metastable state, one can create several narrow amplifying resonances. At frequencies between these gain lines and additional absorption lines, there exist regions of vanishing absorption but resonantly enhanced index of refraction. In Rb vapors with density N in units of cm(-3), we predict an index of refraction up to n≈√(1+1.2×10(-14)N) for the D1 line, which is more than an order of magnitude larger than other proposals for index of refraction enhancement. Furthermore, the index can be readily reduced below 1 by simply changing the sign of the probe or rf field detunings. This enhancement is robust with respect to homogeneous and inhomogeneous broadening. 相似文献

A simple three-level system is proposed to produce high index of refraction with zero absorption in an Er^3+-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal, which is achieved for a probe field between the excited state 4I13/2 and ground state 4I15/2 by adjusting a strong coherent driving field between the upper excited state 4I11/2 and 4I15/2. It is found that the changes of the frequency of the coherent driving field and the concentration of Er^3+ ions in the YAG crystal can maximize the index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption. This result could be useful for the dispersion compensation in fibre communication, laser particle acceleration, high precision magnetometry and so on. 相似文献

This paper studies the electromagnetic response of a coherently driven dense atomic ensemble to a weak probe.It finds that negative refraction with little absorption may be achieved in the presence of local-field enhanced interaction and dynamically induced chirality.The complex refractive index governing the probe refraction and absorption depends critically on the atomic density,the steady population distribution,the coherence dephasings,and the frequency detunings,and is also sensitive to the phase of the driving field because the photonic transition paths form a close loop.Thus,it can periodically tune the refractive index at a fixed frequency from negative to positive values and vice versa just by modulating the driving phase.Moreover,the optimal negative refraction is found to be near the probe magnetic resonance,which then requires the electric fields of the probe and the drive being on two-photon resonance due to the dipole synchronisation. 相似文献

Phase control of probe response in an open ladder type system with spontaneously generated coherence

The control role of the relative phase between the probe and driving fields on the gain and dispersion in an open three-level ladder atomic system with incoherent pumping and spontaneously generated coherence is investigated. It is shown that by adjusting the value of the relative phase, the switching from lasing with inversion to lasing without inversion (LWI) can be realized; high index of the refraction with zero absorption can be achieved. It is also found that when the driving field is on resonance, the dispersion curve versus the probe detuning is very similar to the gain curve if the relative phase corresponding to the dispersion advances π/2 than that corresponding to the gain. LWI gain from the open system is obviously larger than that from corresponding closed system. When the incoherent pumping is absent, the open system can get LWI gain, moreover the gain is larger than that when the incoherent pumping presents for suitable value of the relative phase, but the corresponding closed system exhibits only absorption. In addition, manipulation effects of atomic exit and ratio of the injection rates on phase dependent gain are also analyzed. 相似文献

the phase dependent-absorption property of the probe field, existent of the
atomic injection and exit rates gives the necessary condition of the

We propose and demonstrate a novel scheme for realizing large refractive index with vanishing absorption in a three-level quantum system consisting of the energy levels of Er3+-doped ZrF4–BaF2–LaF3–AlF3–NaF (ZBLAN) optical fiber. It is found that the refractive index of the probe field can be controlled via the coherent coupling field and incoherent pumping field. The switching from negative refractive index to positive refractive index and manipulation of the value of the index of refraction while maintaining vanishing absorption of the probe field can be achieved via tuning the detuning of the coherent coupling field. A four-level system is proposed to produce large index of refraction accompanied by vanishing absorption in the Er^{3+}-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG) crystal. It is found that the high index of refraction with zero absorption can be provided by adjusting the incoherent pumping, the coherent field, as well as the concentration of Er^{3+} ions in the crystal. Furthermore, the value of the incoherent pump to achieve the high index of refraction with zero absorption is greatly changed with increasing the concentration of Er^{3+} ions in the crystal. We report a proof-of-principle experiment where the refractive index of an atomic vapor is enhanced while maintaining vanishing absorption of the beam. The key idea is to drive alkali atoms in a vapor with appropriate control lasers and induce a gain resonance and an absorption resonance for a probe beam in a two-photon Raman configuration. The strength and the position of these two resonances can be manipulated by changing the parameters of the control lasers. By using the interference between these two resonances, we obtain an enhanced refractive index without an increase in the absorption. 相似文献
