We use ergodic theory to prove a quantitative version of a theorem of M.A. Berger and Y. Wang, which relates the joint spectral radius of a set of matrices to the spectral radii of finite products of those matrices. A consistency criterion for systems of linear inequalities is applied to prove an existence theorem for non-negative matrices with restricted row sums, column sums and diagonal elements. A set of polynomials in noncommuting variables is called locally linearly dependent if their evaluations at tuples of matrices are always linearly dependent. By a theorem of Camino, Helton, Skelton and Ye, a finite locally linearly dependent set of polynomials is linearly dependent. In this short note an alternative proof based on the theory of polynomial identities is given. The method of the proof yields generalizations to directional local linear dependence and evaluations in general algebras over fields of arbitrary characteristic. A main feature of the proof is that it makes it possible to deduce bounds on the size of the matrices where the (directional) local linear dependence needs to be tested in order to establish linear dependence.  相似文献

The authors obtain new characterizations of unconditional Cauchy series in termsof separation properties of subfamilies of P(N), and a generalization of the Orlicz-PettisTheorem is also obtained. New results on the uniform convergence on matrices anda new version of the Hahn-Schur summation theorem are proved. For matrices whoserows define unconditional Cauchy series, a better sufficient condition for the basicMatrix Theorem of Antosik and Swartz, new necessary conditions and a new proof ofthat theorem are given.  相似文献
