This paper considers filtered polynomial approximations on the unit sphere \(\mathbb {S}^d\subset \mathbb {R}^{d+1}\), obtained by truncating smoothly the Fourier series of an integrable function f with the help of a “filter” h, which is a real-valued continuous function on \([0,\infty )\) such that \(h(t)=1\) for \(t\in [0,1]\) and \(h(t)=0\) for \(t\ge 2\). The resulting “filtered polynomial approximation” (a spherical polynomial of degree \(2L-1\)) is then made fully discrete by approximating the inner product integrals by an N-point cubature rule of suitably high polynomial degree of precision, giving an approximation called “filtered hyperinterpolation”. In this paper we require that the filter h and all its derivatives up to \(\lfloor \tfrac{d-1}{2}\rfloor \) are absolutely continuous, while its right and left derivatives of order \(\lfloor \tfrac{d+1}{2}\rfloor \) exist everywhere and are of bounded variation. Under this assumption we show that for a function f in the Sobolev space \(W^s_p(\mathbb {S}^d),\ 1\le p\le \infty \), both approximations are of the optimal order \( L^{-s}\), in the first case for \(s>0\) and in the second fully discrete case for \(s>d/p\), conditions which in both cases cannot be weakened.  相似文献

We study generalizations of the classical Bernstein operators on the polynomial spaces \(\mathbb {P}_{n}[a,b]\), where instead of fixing \(\mathbf {1}\) and x, we reproduce exactly \(\mathbf {1}\) and a polynomial \(f_1\), strictly increasing on [ab]. We prove that for sufficiently large n, there always exist generalized Bernstein operators fixing \(\mathbf {1}\) and \(f_1\). These operators are defined by non-decreasing sequences of nodes precisely when \(f_1^\prime > 0\) on (ab), but even if \(f_1^\prime \) vanishes somewhere inside (ab), they converge to the identity.  相似文献

Let K be a compact set in \( {{\mathbb R}^n} \). For \( 1 \leqslant p \leqslant \infty \), the Bernstein space \( B_K^p \) is the Banach space of all functions \( f \in {L^p}\left( {{{\mathbb R}^n}} \right) \)such that their Fourier transform in a distributional sense is supported on K. If \( f \in B_K^p \), then f is continuous on \( {{\mathbb R}^n} \) and has an extension onto the complex space \( {{\mathbb C}^n} \) to an entire function of exponential type K. We study the approximation of functions in \( B_K^p \) by finite τ -periodic exponential sums of the form
$ \sum\limits_m {{c_m}{e^{2\pi {\text{i}}\left( {x,m} \right)/\tau }}} $
in the \( {L^p}\left( {\tau {{\left[ { - 1/2,1/2} \right]}^n}} \right) \)-norm as τ → ∞ when K is a polytope in \( {{\mathbb R}^n} \).

We prove Nikol’skii type inequalities that, for polynomials on the n-dimensional torus \(\mathbb {T}^n\), relate the \(L^p\)-norm with the \(L^q\)-norm (with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure and \(0 <p <q < \infty \)). Among other things, we show that \(C=\sqrt{q/p}\) is the best constant such that \(\Vert P\Vert _{L^q}\le C^{\text {deg}(P)} \Vert P\Vert _{L^p}\) for all homogeneous polynomials P on \(\mathbb {T}^n\). We also prove an exact inequality between the \(L^p\)-norm of a polynomial P on \(\mathbb {T}^n\) and its Mahler measure M(P), which is the geometric mean of |P| with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure on \(\mathbb {T}^n\). Using extrapolation, we transfer this estimate into a Khintchine–Kahane type inequality, which, for polynomials on \(\mathbb {T}^n\), relates a certain exponential Orlicz norm and Mahler’s measure. Applications are given, including some interpolation estimates.  相似文献

Let \(\varGamma \) be a distance-semiregular graph on Y, and let \(D^Y\) be the diameter of \(\varGamma \) on Y. Let \(\varDelta \) be the halved graph of \(\varGamma \) on Y. Fix \(x \in Y\). Let T and \(T'\) be the Terwilliger algebras of \(\varGamma \) and \(\varDelta \) with respect to x, respectively. Assume, for an integer i with \(1 \le 2i \le D^Y\) and for \(y,z \in \varGamma _{2i}(x)\) with \(\partial _{\varGamma }(y,z)=2\), the numbers \(|\varGamma _{2i-1}(x) \cap \varGamma (y) \cap \varGamma (z)|\) and \(|\varGamma _{2i+1}(x) \cap \varGamma (y) \cap \varGamma (z)|\) depend only on i and do not depend on the choice of y, z. The first goal in this paper is to show the relations between T-modules of \(\varGamma \) and \(T'\)-modules of \(\varDelta \). Assume \(\varGamma \) is the incidence graph of the Hamming graph H(Dn) on the vertex set Y and the set \({\mathcal {C}}\) of all maximal cliques. Then, \(\varGamma \) satisfies above assumption and \(\varDelta \) is isomorphic to H(Dn). The second goal is to determine the irreducible T-modules of \(\varGamma \). For each irreducible T-module W, we give a basis for W the action of the adjacency matrix on this basis and we calculate the multiplicity of W.  相似文献

Polynomial approximation is studied in the Sobolev space \(W_p^r(w_{\alpha ,\beta })\) that consists of functions whose r-th derivatives are in weighted \(L^p\) space with the Jacobi weight function \(w_{\alpha ,\beta }\). This requires simultaneous approximation of a function and its consecutive derivatives up to s-th order with \(s \le r\). We provide sharp error estimates given in terms of \(E_n(f^{(r)})_{L^p(w_{\alpha ,\beta })}\), the error of best approximation to \(f^{(r)}\) by polynomials in \(L^p(w_{\alpha ,\beta })\), and an explicit construction of the polynomials that approximate simultaneously with the sharp error estimates.  相似文献

Let p be a large prime number and f(x) be an integer-valued function defined in \({\mathbb F}_p\). The Littlewood problem in \({{\mathbb {F}}}_p\) is to establish non-trivial lower bounds for the \(\ell _1\) norm of exponential sums involving f(x). In the present paper, we establish new lower bounds for exponential sums including polynomials, powers of any primitive root and subgroups of \(\mathbb {F}_p^*.\)  相似文献

Let \(F(x,y,z)=xy+z\). We consider some properties of expansion of the polynomial F in different settings, namely in the integers and in prime fields. The main results concern the question of covering \(\{0,1,\ldots , N\}\) (resp. \(\mathbf {F}_p\)) by \(A^2+A\) with some thin sets A.  相似文献

Let M be an invariant subspace of \(H^2\) over the bidisk. Associated with M, we have the fringe operator \(F^M_z\) on \(M\ominus w M\). For \(A\subset H^2\), let [A] denote the smallest invariant subspace containing A. Assume that \(F^M_z\) is Fredholm. If h is a bounded analytic function on \(\mathbb {D}^2\) satisfying \(h(0,0)\not =0\), then \(F^{[h M]}_z\) is Fredholm and \(\mathrm{ind}\,F^{[h M]}_z=\mathrm{ind}\,F^M_z\).  相似文献

Let \(X=G/K\) be a symmetric space of noncompact type and rank \(k\ge 2\). We prove that horospheres in X are Lipschitz \((k-2)\)-connected if their centers are not contained in a proper join factor of the spherical building of X at infinity. As a consequence, the distortion dimension of an irreducible \(\mathbb {Q}\)-rank-1 lattice \(\Gamma \) in a linear, semisimple Lie group G of \(\mathbb R\)-rank k is \(k-1\). That is, given \(m< k-1\), a Lipschitz m-sphere S in (a polyhedral complex quasi-isometric to) \(\Gamma \), and a \((m+1)\)-ball B in X (or G) filling S, there is a \((m+1)\)-ball \(B'\) in \(\Gamma \) filling S such that \({{\mathrm{vol}}}B'\sim {{\mathrm{vol}}}B\). In particular, such arithmetic lattices satisfy Euclidean isoperimetric inequalities up to dimension \(k-1\).  相似文献

Let p be an odd prime number and \(\ell \) an odd prime number dividing \(p-1\). We denote by \(F=F_{p,\ell }\) the real abelian field of conductor p and degree \(\ell \), and by \(h_F\) the class number of F. For a prime number \(r \ne p,\,\ell \), let \(F_{\infty }\) be the cyclotomic \(\mathbb {Z}_r\)-extension over F, and \(M_{\infty }/F_{\infty }\) the maximal pro-r abelian extension unramified outside r. We prove that \(M_{\infty }\) coincides with \(F_{\infty }\) and consequently \(h_F\) is not divisible by r when r is a primitive root modulo \(\ell \) and r is smaller than an explicit constant depending on p.  相似文献

We consider a continuum percolation model on \(\mathbb {R}^d\), \(d\ge 1\). For \(t,\lambda \in (0,\infty )\) and \(d\in \{1,2,3\}\), the occupied set is given by the union of independent Brownian paths running up to time t whose initial points form a Poisson point process with intensity \(\lambda >0\). When \(d\ge 4\), the Brownian paths are replaced by Wiener sausages with radius \(r>0\). We establish that, for \(d=1\) and all choices of t, no percolation occurs, whereas for \(d\ge 2\), there is a non-trivial percolation transition in t, provided \(\lambda \) and r are chosen properly. The last statement means that \(\lambda \) has to be chosen to be strictly smaller than the critical percolation parameter for the occupied set at time zero (which is infinite when \(d\in \{2,3\}\), but finite and dependent on r when \(d\ge 4\)). We further show that for all \(d\ge 2\), the unbounded cluster in the supercritical phase is unique. Along the way a finite box criterion for non-percolation in the Boolean model is extended to radius distributions with an exponential tail. This may be of independent interest. The present paper settles the basic properties of the model and should be viewed as a springboard for finer results.  相似文献

A pure Mendelsohn triple system of order v, denoted by PMTS(v), is a pair \((X,\mathcal {B})\) where X is a v-set and \(\mathcal {B}\) is a collection of cyclic triples on X such that every ordered pair of X belongs to exactly one triple of \(\mathcal {B}\) and if \(\langle a,b,c\rangle \in \mathcal {B}\) implies \(\langle c,b,a\rangle \notin \mathcal {B}\). An overlarge set of PMTS(v), denoted by OLPMTS(v), is a collection \(\{(Y{\setminus }\{y_i\},{\mathcal {A}}_i)\}_i\), where Y is a \((v+1)\)-set, \(y_i\in Y\), each \((Y{\setminus }\{y_i\},{\mathcal {A}}_i)\) is a PMTS(v) and these \({\mathcal {A}}_i\)s form a partition of all cyclic triples on Y. It is shown in [3] that there exists an OLPMTS(v) for \(v\equiv 1,3\) (mod 6), \(v>3\), or \(v \equiv 0,4\) (mod 12). In this paper, we shall discuss the existence problem of OLPMTS(v)s for \(v\equiv 6,10\) (mod 12) and get the following conclusion: there exists an OLPMTS(v) if and only if \(v\equiv 0,1\) (mod 3), \(v>3\) and \(v\ne 6\).  相似文献

We estimate exponential sums over a non-homogenous Beatty sequence with restriction on strongly q-additive functions. We then apply our result in a few special cases to obtain an asymptotic formula for the number of primes \(p=\lfloor \alpha n +\beta \rfloor \) and \(f(p)\equiv a (\mathrm{mod\,}b)\), with \(n\ge N \), where \(\alpha \), \(\beta \) are real numbers and f is a strongly q-additive function (for example, the sum of digits function in base q is a strongly q-additive function). We also prove that for any fixed integer \(k\ge 3 \), all sufficiently large \(N\equiv k (\mathrm{mod\,}2) \) could be represented as a sum of k prime numbers from a Beatty sequence with restriction on strongly q-additive functions.  相似文献

For nonnegative integers qnd, let \(A_q(n,d)\) denote the maximum cardinality of a code of length n over an alphabet [q] with q letters and with minimum distance at least d. We consider the following upper bound on \(A_q(n,d)\). For any k, let \(\mathcal{C}_k\) be the collection of codes of cardinality at most k. Then \(A_q(n,d)\) is at most the maximum value of \(\sum _{v\in [q]^n}x(\{v\})\), where x is a function \(\mathcal{C}_4\rightarrow {\mathbb {R}}_+\) such that \(x(\emptyset )=1\) and \(x(C)=\!0\) if C has minimum distance less than d, and such that the \(\mathcal{C}_2\times \mathcal{C}_2\) matrix \((x(C\cup C'))_{C,C'\in \mathcal{C}_2}\) is positive semidefinite. By the symmetry of the problem, we can apply representation theory to reduce the problem to a semidefinite programming problem with order bounded by a polynomial in n. It yields the new upper bounds \(A_4(6,3)\le 176\), \(A_4(7,3)\le 596\), \(A_4(7,4)\le 155\), \(A_5(7,4)\le 489\), and \(A_5(7,5)\le 87\).  相似文献

We consider two problems regarding vanishing patterns in the Betti table of edge ideals I over any fixed field. First, we show that the j-strand is connected if \(j=3\) (for \(j=2\) this is easy and known), and give examples where the j-strand is not connected for any \(j>3\). Next, we apply our result on strand connectivity to establish the subadditivity conjecture for edge ideals, \(t_{a+b}(I)\le t_a(I)+t_b(I)\), in case \(b=2,3\) (the case \(b=1\) is known). Here \(t_i(I)\) denote the maximal shifts in the minimal free resolution of S / I over its polynomial algebra.  相似文献

This paper introduces the notion of log-regularity (or log-irregularity) of the boundary point \(\zeta \) (possibly \(\zeta =\infty \)) of the arbitrary open subset \(\Omega \) of the Greenian deleted neigborhood of \(\zeta \) in \({\mathbb {R}}^2\) concerning second order uniformly elliptic equations with bounded and measurable coefficients, according as whether the log-harmonic measure of \(\zeta \) is null (or positive). A necessary and sufficient condition for the removability of the logarithmic singularity, that is to say for the existence of a unique solution to the Dirichlet problem in \(\Omega \) in a class \(O(\log |\cdot - \zeta |)\) is established in terms of the Wiener test for the log-regularity of \(\zeta \). From a topological point of view, the Wiener test at \(\zeta \) presents the minimal thinness criteria of sets near \(\zeta \) in minimal fine topology. Precisely, the open set \(\Omega \) is a deleted neigborhood of \(\zeta \) in minimal fine topology if and only if \(\zeta \) is log-irregular. From the probabilistic point of view, the Wiener test presents asymptotic law for the log-Brownian motion near \(\zeta \) conditioned on the logarithmic kernel with pole at \(\zeta \).  相似文献

Let \(\Pi \) be a plane of order \(q^{3}\), \(q>2\), admitting \(G\cong PGL(3,q)\) as a collineation group. By Dempwolff (Geometriae Dedicata 18:101–112, 1985) the plane \(\Pi \) contains a G-invariant subplane \(\pi _{0}\) isomorphic to PG(2, q) on which G acts 2-transitively. In this paper it is shown that, if the homologies of \(\pi _{0}\) contained in G extend to \(\Pi \) then \(\Pi \) is either the desarguesian or the Figueroa plane.  相似文献

For \(x>0\), let \(\pi (x)\) denote the number of primes not exceeding x. For integers a and \(m>0\), we determine when there is an integer \(n>1\) with \(\pi (n)=(n+a)/m\). In particular, we show that, for any integers \(m>2\) and \(a\leqslant \lceil e^{m-1}/(m-1)\rceil \), there is an integer \(n>1\) with \(\pi (n)=(n+a)/m\). Consequently, for any integer \(m>4\), there is a positive integer n with \(\pi (mn)=m+n\). We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that, for each \(m=1,2,3,\ldots \), there is a positive integer n such that \(m+n\) divides \(p_m+p_n\), where \(p_k\) denotes the k-th prime.  相似文献

The group of bisections of groupoids plays an important role in the study of Lie groupoids. In this paper another construction is introduced. Indeed, for a topological groupoid G, the set of all continuous self-maps f on G such that (xf(x)) is a composable pair for every \(x\in G\), is denoted by \(S_G\). We show that \(S_G\) by a natural binary operation is a monoid. \(S_G(\alpha )\), the group of units in \(S_G\) precisely consists of those \(f\in S_G\) such that the map \(x\mapsto xf(x)\) is a bijection on G. Similar to the group of bisections, \(S_G(\alpha )\) acts on G from the right and on the space of continuous self-maps on G from the left. It is proved that \(S_G(\alpha )\) with the compact- open topology inherited from C(GG) is a left topological group. For a compact Hausdorff groupoid G it is proved that the group of bisections of \(G^2\) is isomorphic to the group \(S_G(\alpha )\) and the group of transitive bisections of G, \(Bis_T(G)\), is embedded in \(S_G(\alpha )\), where \(G^2\) is the groupoid of all composable pairs.  相似文献
