Pluronic poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(propylene oxide)-b-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) block copolymers are grafted with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) by free radical polymerization of vinyl pyrrolidone with simultaneous chain transfer to the Pluronic in dioxane. This modified polymer has both thermal responsiveness and remarkable capacity to interact with a wide variety of hydrophilic and hydrophobic pharmaceutical agents which is very attractive for medical applications. The chemical structure of the graft copolymers was characterized by FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Polymerization conditions such as initiators, feed ratio, and reaction times are studied to obtain the ideal graft copolymer.  相似文献

The phase behavior (temperature vs composition) and microstructure for the two binary systems Pluronic 25R4 [(PO)19(EO)33(PO)19]-water and Pluronic 25R2 [(PO)21(EO)14(PO)21]-water have been studied by a combined experimental approach in the whole concentration range and from 5 to 80 degrees C. The general phase behavior has been identified by inspection under polarized light. Precise phase boundaries have been determined by analyzing 2H NMR line shape. The identification and microstructural characterization of the liquid crystalline phases have been achieved using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). The isotropic liquid solution phases have been investigated by self-diffusion measurements (PGSE-NMR method). 25R2 does not form liquid crystals and is miscible with water in the whole concentration range; with increasing temperature, the mixtures split into water-rich and a copolymer-rich solutions in equilibrium. 25R4 shows rich phase behavior, passing, with increasing copolymer concentration, from a water-rich solution to a lamellar and copolymer-rich solution. A small hexagonal phase, completely encircled in the stability region of the water-rich solution, is also present. In water-rich solutions, at low temperatures and low copolymer concentrations, the copolymers are dissolved as independent macromolecules. With increasing copolymer concentrations an interconnected network of micelles is formed in which micellar cores of hydrophobic poly(propylene oxide) are interconnected by poly(ethylene oxide) strands. In copolymer-rich solutions water is molecularly dissolved in the copolymer. The factors influencing the self-aggregation of Pluronic R copolymers (PPO-PEO-PPO sequence) are discussed, and their behavior in water is compared to that of Pluronic copolymers (PEO-PPO-PEO sequence).  相似文献

Melting points have been measured for several ethylene oxide–propylene oxide block copolymers (sym-EPE) chosen from the Pluronic range. Melting points of the block copolymers are lower than those of the corresponding poly(ethylene oxide) homopolymer by up to 4°C. The melting point depressions are much smaller than those observed for comparable sym-PEP block copolymers.  相似文献

In this work, a new family of branched poly(ethylene oxide-propylene oxide) (PEO-PPO) block copolymers designed as TETRONIC polyols is evaluated and compared to linear PEO-PPO block copolymers designed as PLURONIC polyols. Additives have been employed as well in order to improve solubility of these materials in aqueous solution. Such additives include the sodium p-toluene sulfonate (NaPTS) hydrotrope and concentrated hydrochloric acid. Solubility tests and aqueous solution surface tension data showed consistent results: the structure of the block PEO-PPO copolymers exerts a huge influence on their solubility in water. The solubility of such copolymers is increased by the presence of the sodium toluene sulfonate (NaPTS) hydrotrope. The presence of HCl caused increased solubility for the copolymer TETRONIC polyol only, the effect being less than that observed for the hydrotrope. It is concluded that as regards emulsion stabilization, TETRONIC copolymer polyols perform better. Correlation between structure and properties leads to the optimization of block PEO-PPO copolymer selection aiming at using these materials for the separation of petroleum industry emulsions.  相似文献

The thermoreversible gelation of Pluronic [poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO)–polypropylene oxide (PPO)–PEO] aqueous solutions originates from micelle formation and micelle volume changes due to PEO–water and PPO–water lower critical solution temperature behavior. The micelle volume fraction is known to dominate the sol–gel transition behavior of Pluronic aqueous solutions. Triblock copolymers of PEO and aliphatic polyesters, instead of PPO, were prepared by hexamethylene diisocyanate coupling and dicyclohexyl carbodiimide coupling. Through changes in the molecular weight and hydrophobicity of the polyester middle block, the hydrophobic–hydrophilic balance of each block was systematically controlled. The following aliphatic polyesters were used: poly(hexamethylene adipate) (PHA), poly(ethylene adipate) (PEA), and poly(ethylene succinate) (PESc). With the hydrophobicity and molecular weight of the middle block increasing, the critical micelle concentration at the same critical micelle temperature decreased, and the absolute value of the micellization free energy increased. The micelle size was rather insensitive to temperature but slightly decreased with increasing temperature. PEO–PHA–PEO and PEO–PEA–PEO triblock copolymers needed high polymer concentrations to form gels. This was ascribed to the tight aggregation of PHA and PEA chains in the micelle core due to strong hydrophobic interactions, which induced the contraction of the micelle core. However, because of the relatively hydrophilic core, a PEO–PESc–PEO aqueous solution showed gelation at a low polymer concentration. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The phase behavior and aggregation properties of block copolymers of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (Pluronics, poloxamers) in aqueous solution have recently attracted much attention. Both experimental and theoretical studies are reviewed, not comprehensively, but with the focus on studies, partly cooperative, partly independent, performed by groups in Uppsala (light scattering and fluorescence), Roskilde (rheology and calorimetry), Risø (SANS), Graz (x-ray and speed of sound), and Lund (theoretical model calculations). The phase behavior of these copolymers is similar in many respects to that of conventional nonionic surfactants, with the appearance of hexagonal, cubic, and lamellar liquid crystalline phases at high concentrations. In the isotropic solution phase the critical concentration for micelle formation is strongly temperature dependent, and at a given concentration the monomer to micelle transition occurs gradually over a broad temperature range, partly due to the broad size polydispersity of both the PO- and EO-blocks. For some Pluronic copolymers a transition from globular to long rod-like micelles occurs above a transition temperature, resulting in a strong and sudden increase of viscosity and viscoelasticity of the solution.Size and aggregation numbers have been determined for the globular micelles in some cases, and also the rod-like micelles have been characterized. NMR and fluorescence measurements have provided further information on the properties of the micellar core and mantle. In combination, results from different measurements on the same Pluronics material indicate that the aggregation number of the micelles increases with the temperature, whereas the hydrodynmic radius varies much less. The PEO-mantle of the micelles seems to contract with increasing temperature. The core appears to contain appreciable amounts of PEO in addition to PPO (and also some water). The segregation between core and mantle is not as distinct as in normal micelles, a conclusion which is in line with the predictions from the model calculations.  相似文献

Water soluble nonionic amphiphilic block copolymers based on hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) were prepared. Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(propylene glycol)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) copolymers, PEG-PPG-PEG, were prepared in the normal condition. The chemical composition and molecular weights of the prepared copolymers were determined from 1H NMR and GPC techniques. The surface properties of the prepared surfactants were determined by measuring the surface tension at different temperatures. The prepared nonionic surfactants were evaluated as demulsifiers for water in crude-oil emulsions that were pronounced at different ratios of crude oil: water at 318 K and 333 K. The experimental results showed that the dehydration rate of the prepared demulsifiers reached 100% based on demulsifier chemical compositions and concentrations.  相似文献

The acid effect on the aggregation of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) block copolymers EO(20)PO(70)EO(20) has been investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), particle size analyzer (PSA), Fourier transformed infrared, and fluorescence spectroscopy. The critical micellization temperature for Pluronic P123 in different HCl aqueous solutions increases with the increase of acid concentration. Additionally, the hydrolysis degradation of PEO blocks is observed in strong acid concentrations at higher temperatures. When the acid concentration is low, TEM and PSA show the increase of the micelle mean diameter and the decrease of the micelle polydispersity at room temperature, which demonstrate the extension of EO corona and tendency of uniform micelle size because of the charge repulsion. When under strong acid conditions, the aggregation of micelles through the protonated water bridges was observed.  相似文献

The effect of sodium chloride (NaCl) upon the thermally induced association behavior of poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) block copolymer, Pluronic P103, has been investigated using pyrene fluorescence spectroscopy. The critical micellization temperature (CMT) of Pluronic P103 in aqueous solution is decreased by the addition of NaCl. The standard enthalpy and entropy of micellization for Pluronic P103 in water are increased in the presence of small amounts of NaCl, but further addition of NaCl decreases the standard enthalpy and entropy of micellization. The I1/I3 ratio of pyrene in aqueous Pluronic P103 solutions at temperature below the CMT decreases with increases of NaCl concentration, which is related to the decrease of PPO solubility. The decrease in polarity of the PPO shifts the CMT toward lower temperature.  相似文献

The effects caused by poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO; Pluronic) copolymers on the structure and stability of dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) liposomes were studied by means of turbidity, leakage, and cryo-transmission electron microscopy investigations. The results show that by inclusion of Pluronics in the DOPE dispersion it is possible to stabilize the lamellar Lalpha phase and to produce liposomes that are stable and nonleaky at low pH (pH 5). The stabilizing capacity was observed to depend critically on the molecular composition of the Pluronics. Block copolymers with comparably long PPO and PEO segment lengths, such as F127 and F108, most effectively protected DOPE liposomes prepared at high pH from aggregation and subsequent structural rearrangements induced by acidification. A sufficiently long PPO block was found to be the most decisive parameter in order to obtain adequate coverage of the liposome surface at low Pluronic concentrations. Upon increasing the copolymer concentration, however, Pluronics with comparably short PPO and PEO segment lengths, such as F87 and P85, could also be used to stabilize the DOPE liposomes. Essentially the same trends were observed when the Pluronics were added to preformed DOPE liposomes instead of being included in the preparation mixture. In this case the least effective copolymers failed, however, to completely prevent the DOPE liposomes from releasing encapsulated hydrophilic markers.  相似文献

This article reviews the results of recent investigations on the macroscopic (phase behavior) and microscopic (microstructure) aspects of the role of cosolvents on the self-assembly of amphiphilic copolymers. A comprehensive account of the systematic studies performed in ternary isothermal systems consisting of a representative poly(ethylene oxide)–poly(propylene oxide)–poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO–PPO–PEO) block copolymer (Pluronic P105, EO37PO58EO37), water and a polar cosolvent (such as glycerol, propylene glycol or ethanol) is presented. The effect of cosolvents on the copolymer phase behavior is quantified in terms of the highest cosolvent/water ratio able to maintain the liquid crystalline structures. The effect of cosolvents on the microstructure of the lyotropic liquid crystals is quantified in terms of the degree of relative swelling per cosolvent content per copolymer content, a parameter that characterizes the given cosolvent and copolymer. The set of correlations on the cosolvent effects on the phase behavior or microstructure to the cosolvent physicochemical characteristics (such as octanol/water partition coefficient or solubility parameter) have led to the development of a hypothesis that accounts for the cosolvent effects on the self-assembly of PEO–PPO–PEO block copolymers and can be used to predict them. The rich structural diversity and the potential for a precise and convenient modification of the lyotropic liquid crystalline microstructure of the PEO–PPO–PEO block copolymers is discussed in comparison to the phase behavior of the low-molecular nonionic surfactants.  相似文献

The triblock poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) copolymers, Pluronics (L64, P65, and P123), form liquid crystalline (LC) mesophases with transition metal nitrate salts (TMS), [M(H(2)O)(n)](NO(3))(2), in the presence and absence of free water in the media. In this assembly process, M-OH(2) plays an important role as observed in a TMS:C(n)EO(m) (C(n)EO(m) is oligo(ethylene oxide) nonionic surfactants) system. The structure of the LC mesophases and interactions of the metal ion-nitrate ion and metal ion-Pluronic were investigated using microscopy (POM), diffraction (XRD), and spectroscopy (FTIR and micro-Raman) techniques. The TMS:L64 system requires a shear force for mesophase ordering to be observed using X-ray diffraction. However, TMS:P65 and TMS:P123 form well structured LC mesophases. Depending on the salt/Pluronic mole ratio, hexagonal LC mesophases are observed in the TMS:P65 systems and cubic and tetragonal LC mesophases in the TMS:P123 systems. The LC mesophase in the water/salt/Pluronic system is sensitive to the concentration of free (H(2)O) and coordinated water (M-OH(2)) molecules and demonstrates structural changes. As the free water is evaporated from the H(2)O:TMS:Pluronic LC mesophase (ternary mixture), the nitrate ion remains free in the media. However, complete evaporation of the free water molecules enforces the coordination of the nitrate ion to the metal ion in all TMS:Pluronic systems.  相似文献

Partition coefficients of ethylene oxide-propylene oxide block copolymers between the lipid phase and water have been estimated via equilibrium dialysis. It has been shown that for the triblock copolymer (Pluronic L61), the partition coefficient is 45 ± 9, while for the diblock copolymer (REP), this parameter is as high as 78 ± 17. The effect of the copolymers on the permeation of the charged organic ion carboxyfluorescein across the lecithin bilayer membrane changes in the same direction. Even though the triblock copolymer binding is weaker, it shows a stronger effect on the rate of transbilayer migration of lipids and on the permeation of the uncharged substance (doxorubicin). The incorporation of cholesterol into the membrane decreases its sensitivity to the action of copolymers; however, the character of changes induced by both copolymers remains invariable. The experimental data of this study indicate that the triblock structure of amphiphilic macromolecules is responsible for their higher ability to disturb lipid bilayer membranes.  相似文献

Pluronic F108 block copolymers have shown a great promise to achieve the desirable high resolution in the conformation‐sensitive separation of ssDNA using CE‐SSCP. However, fundamental understanding of the structures and properties of Pluronic matrix affecting the resolution is still limited. Unlike conventional gel‐forming homopolymers, Pluronic F108 block copolymers are amphiphilic macromolecules consisting of poly(ethylene oxide)‐b‐poly(propylene oxide)‐b‐poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymers, which are capable of forming a highly ordered micellar structure in aqueous solution. In this study, we have performed a series of experiments by blending different types of Pluronic polymers to control the formation of micelles and to study the correlation between separation and rheological characteristics of Pluronic gels affecting the resolution of CE‐SSCP. Our experiments have been specifically designed to elucidate how the micellar structure affects the resolution of CE‐SSCP upon altering the size uniformity and constituent homogeneity of the micelles. Our results suggest that uniformly sized micelle packing is the primary structural feature of Pluronic gel matrix for the high‐resolution separation, while the size and constituent of the micelle themselves need to be considered as secondary factors.

A series of new polypseudorotaxanes were synthesized in high yields when the middle poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) block of poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide) (PPO-PEO-PPO) triblock copolymers was selectively recognized and included by alpha-cyclodextrin (alpha-CD) to form crystalline inclusion complexes (ICs), although the middle PEO block was flanked by two thicker PPO blocks, and a PPO chain had been previously thought to be impenetrable to alpha-CD. X-ray diffraction studies demonstrated that the IC domains of the polypseudorotaxanes assumed a channel-type structure similar to the necklace-like ICs formed by alpha-CD and PEO homopolymers. Solid-state CP/MAS (13)C NMR studies showed that the alpha-CD molecules in the polypseudorotaxanes adopted a symmetrical conformation due to the formation of ICs. The compositions and stoichiometry of the polypseudorotaxanes were studied using (1)H NMR, and a 2:1 (ethylene oxide unit to alpha-CD) stoichiometry was found for all polypseudorotaxanes although the PPO-PEO-PPO triblock copolymers had different compositions and block lengths, suggesting that only the PEO block was closely included by alpha-CD molecules, whereas the PPO blocks were uncovered. The hypothesis was further supported by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies of the polypseudorotaxanes. The glass transitions of the PPO blocks in the polypseudorotaxanes were clearly observed because they were uncovered by alpha-CD and remained amorphous, whereas the glass-transition temperatures increased, because the molecular motion of the PPO blocks was restricted by the hard crystalline phases of the IC domains formed by alpha-CD and the PEO blocks. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed that the polypseudorotaxanes had better thermal stability than their free components due to the inclusion complexation. Finally, the kinetics of the threading process of alpha-CD onto the copolymers was also studied. The findings reported in this article suggested interesting possibilities in designing other cyclodextrin ICs and polypseudorotaxanes with block structures.  相似文献

Partition coefficients for 39 low-molecular-mass compounds between water and micelles of an ethylene oxide-propylene oxide block copolymer (Pluronic P85) and the monolauryl ether of poly(ethylene oxide) (Brij 35) have been measured by the methods of fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence anisotropy, and dialysis kinetics. The tested compounds include aromatic hydrocarbons, phenols, naphthols, xanthene dyes, anthracycline antibiotics, and porphyrins. The multifactor analysis of the partition coefficients in terms of the linear free-energy relationships has been performed. It has been shown that the H-donating ability of compounds facilitates their solubilization in Pluronic micelles and has no effect on solubilization in micelles of monolauryl ether of poly(ethylene oxide). This difference indicates that, when solubilization occurs in Pluronic micelles, the compounds under study appear in a hydrophobic core composed of poly(propylene oxide) blocks.  相似文献

The adsorption of amphiphilic poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) and poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(gamma-methyl-epsilon-caprolactone) copolymers in aqueous solution on silica and glass surfaces has been investigated by flow microcalorimetry, small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), surface forces, and complementary techniques. The studied copolymers consist of a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) block of M(n) = 5000 and a hydrophobic polyester block of poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) or poly(gamma-methyl-epsilon-caprolactone) (PMCL) of M(n) in the 950-2200 range. Compared to homoPEO, the adsorption of the copolymers is significantly increased by the connection of PEO to an aliphatic polyester block. According to calorimetric experiments, the copolymers interact with the surface mainly through the hydrophilic block. At low surface coverage, the PEO block interacts with the surface such that both PEO and PCL chains are exposed to the aqueous solution. At high surface coverage, a dense copolymer layer is observed with the PEO blocks oriented toward the solution. The structure of the copolymer layer has been analyzed by neutron scattering using the contrast matching technique and by tapping mode atomic force microscopy. The experimental observations agree with the coadsorption of micelles and free copolymer chains at the interface.  相似文献

On the basis of the synthesis of water-soluble poly(epsilon-caprolactone)-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL-PEG-PCL) block copolymers, the supramolecular hydrogels were fabricated rapidly in aqueous solutions by their inclusion complexation with alpha-cyclodextrin. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses confirmed the supramolecular self-assemblies of alpha-cyclodextrin threaded onto amphiphilic PCL-PEG-PCL block copolymers. The resulting hydrogels display a high degree of elasticity, with the storage modulus (G') greater than the loss modulus (G') over the entire range of frequency. Moreover, their viscosity greatly diminished as they were sheared. By controlling the molecular weight of the PEG component in the block copolymers and the content of the block copolymer, their rheological properties could be modulated. Such hydrogel materials have the potential to be used as tissue engineered scaffolds, biosensors in the human body, and carriers for controlled drug delivery.  相似文献
