Spaces of Densely Continuous Forms, USCO and Minimal USCO Maps

Our paper studies the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on the space of densely continuous forms (introduced by Hammer and McCoy (1997)), usco and minimal usco maps. We generalize and complete results from Hammer and McCoy (1997) concerning the space D(X,Y) of densely continuous forms from X to Y. Let X be a Hausdorff topological space, (Y,d) be a metric space and D _k (X,Y) the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on D(X,Y). We prove the following main results: D _k (X,Y) is metrizable iff D _k (X,Y) is first countable iff X is hemicompact. This result gives also a positive answer to question 4.1 of McCoy (1998). If moreover X is a locally compact hemicompact space and (Y,d) is a locally compact complete metric space, then D _k (X,Y) is completely metrizable, thus improving a result from McCoy (1998). We study also the question, suggested by Hammer and McCoy (1998), when two compatible metrics on Y generate the same topologies of uniform convergence on compact sets on D(X,Y). The completeness of the topology of uniform convergence on compact sets on the space of set-valued maps with closed graphs, usco and minimal usco maps is also discussed.     

Hausdorff graph topology, proximal graph topology and the uniform topology for densely continuous forms and minimal USCO maps

For metric spaces (X, d _x) and (Y, d _y) we consider the Hausdorff metric topology on the set (CL(X × Y), ρ) of closed subsets of the product metrized by the product (box) metric ρ and consider the proximal topology defined on CL(X × Y). These topologies are inherited by the set G(X, Y) of closed-graph multifunctions from X to Y, if we identify each multifunction with its graph. Finally, we consider the topology of uniform convergence τ _uc on the set F(X, 2^Y) of all closed-valued multifunctions, i.e. functions from X to the set (CL(Y),) of closed subsets of Y metrized by the Hausdorff metric . We show the relationship between these topologies on the space G(X, Y) and also on the subspaces of minimal USCO maps and locally bounded densely continuous forms. Hypertopologies on function spaces

The aim of this paper is to continue Naimpally’s seminal papers [16], [17], [18], i.e. we investigate topological properties of spaces which force the coincidence of convergences of functions associated with different hyperspace topologies. For example a metric spaceX is locally compact iff the topological convergence and the convergence induced by the Fell topology coincide onC(X,IR). Moreover, the proximal topology on the space of functions, not necessarily continuous, is studied in great detail.     

Some notes on densely continuous forms

We consider a special space of set-valued functions (multifunctions), the space of densely continuous forms D(X, Y) between Hausdorff spaces X and Y, defined in [HAMMER, S. T.—McCOY, R. A.: Spaces of densely continuous forms, Set-Valued Anal. 5 (1997), 247–266] and investigated also in [HOLá, L’.: Spaces of densely continuous forms, USCO and minimal USCO maps, Set-Valued Anal. 11 (2003), 133–151]. We show some of its properties, completing the results from the papers [HOLY, D.—VADOVIČ, P.: Densely continuous forms, pointwise topology and cardinal functions, Czechoslovak Math. J. 58(133) (2008), 79–92] and [HOLY, D.—VADOVIČ, P.: Hausdorff graph topology, proximal graph topology and the uniform topology for densely continuous forms and minimal USCO maps, Acta Math. Hungar. 116 (2007), 133–144], in particular concerning the structure of the space of real-valued locally bounded densely continuous forms D _p ^*(X) equipped with the topology of pointwise convergence in the product space of all nonempty-compact-valued multifunctions. The paper also contains a comparison of cardinal functions on D _p ^*(X) and on real-valued continuous functions C _p (X) and a generalization of a sufficient condition for the countable cellularity of D _p ^*(X). Densely continuous forms, pointwise topology and cardinal functions

We consider the space D(X, Y) of densely continuous forms introduced by Hammer and McCoy [5] and investigated also by Holá [6]. We show some additional properties of D(X, Y) and investigate the subspace D*(X) of locally bounded real-valued densely continuous forms equipped with the topology of pointwise convergence τ- _p . The largest part of the paper is devoted to the study of various cardinal functions for (D*(X), τ _p ), in particular: character, pseudocharacter, weight, density, cellularity, diagonal degree, π-weight, π-character, netweight etc. This work was supported by Science and Technology Assistance Agency under the contract No. APVT-51-006904. The relative Chebyshev centers of finite sets in geodesic spaces

In the present paper we estimate variation in the relative Chebyshev radius R _W (M), where M and W are nonempty bounded sets of a metric space, as the sets M and W change. We find the closure and the interior of the set of all N-nets each of which contains its unique relative Chebyshev center, in the set of all N-nets of a special geodesic space endowed by the Hausdorff metric. We consider various properties of relative Chebyshev centers of a finite set which lie in this set.     

Fixed points of multivalued operators in ordered metric spaces with applications

The purpose of this paper is to present some new (hybrid) fixed point theorems involving multivalued operators which satisfy weakly generalized contractive conditions in an ordered complete metric space. An example of the existence of solutions for a perturbed impulsive hyperbolic differential inclusion with variable times is given to illustrate the usability of our results.     

On the convergence properties of measurable multifunctions with values in a separable Banach space

In this paper we prove some convergence theorems for Banach space valued multifunctions. First we consider the notion of weak convergence of sets and prove a weak completeness and a weak compactness result of the Dunford-Pettis type for weakly compact, convex valued integrable multifunctions. Then we consider set valued martingales and establish two convergence theorems. One using the Kuratowski-Mosco mode of convergence and for the other the Hausdorff mode.     

A note on closed images of locally compact metric spaces

Summary A decomposition theorem about closed images of locally compact metric spaces is discussed. It is shown that a space is a closed image of a locally compact metric space if and only if it is a regular Fréchet space with a point-countable k-network, and each of its closed first-countable subset is locally compact.     

Fell topology on the space of functions with closed graph

LetX andY beT ₁ topological spaces andG(X, Y) the space of all functions with closed graph. Conditions under which the Fell topology and the weak Fell topology coincide onG(X,Y) are given. Relations between the convergence in the Fell topologyτF, Kuratowski and continuous convergence are studied too. Characterizations of a topological spaceX by separation axioms of (G(X, R), τF) and topological properties of (G(X, R), τF) are investigated.     

A mean ergodic theorem on vector spaces

A mean ergodic theorem for a matrix is first proved from which a mean ergodic theorem for affine operators on a vector space without any topological structure is obtained.     

Essential spectrum of difference operators on periodic metric spaces

The paper deals with the study of Fredholm property and essential spectrum of general difference (or band) operators acting on the spaces l ^p (X) on a discrete metric space X periodic with respect to the action of a finitely generated discrete group. The Schrödinger operator on a combinatorial periodic graph is a prominent example of a band operator of this kind.     

Topologies on homeomorphism spaces of certain metric spaces

A new proof for the equivalence of several topologies on homeomorphism groups over certain metric spaces X is given, which is based on the metric of X.     

On the random conjugate spaces of a random locally convex module

Theoretically speaking, there are four kinds of possibilities to define the random conjugate space of a random locally convex module. The purpose of this paper is to prove that among the four kinds there are only two which are universally suitable for the current development of the theory of random conjugate spaces. In this process, we also obtain a somewhat surprising and crucial result: if the base (Ω, F , P ) of a random normed module is nonatomic then the random normed module is a totally disconnected topological space when it is endowed with the locally L0 -convex topology.     

Stronger convergence theorems for an infinite family of uniformly quasi-Lipschitzian mappings in convex metric spaces

The purpose of this paper is to study the Ishikawa type iterative scheme to approximate a common fixed point of infinite families of uniformly quasi-Lipschitzian mappings and nonexpansive mappings in convex metric spaces. Under appropriate conditions, some convergence theorems are proved. The results presented in the paper generalize, improve and unify some recent results.

UNIFORM CONVERGENCE OF CESARO MEANS OF NEGATIVE ORDER OF DOUBLE TRIGONOMETRIC FOURIER SERIES

In this paper we prove that iff ∈ C([-π,π]2) and the function f is bounded partial p-variation for some p ∈ [1, ∞), then the double trigonometric Fourier series of a function f is uniformly (C;-α,-β) summable (α β＜ 1/p,α,β＞ 0) in the sense of Pringsheim. If α β≥ 1/p, then there exists a continuous function f0 of bounded partial double trigonometric Fourier series of fo diverge over cubes.
