In this article, several cascading multilevel finite-element algorithms are considered to discretize nonlinear parabolic problems, of which the nonlinearity has either local or nonlocal form. Algorithm I solves only a stationary linear system of equations at each level of P1 finite element spaces, while Algorithm II works on the coupling of a stationary linear system of equations with a linear parabolic equation. The convergence orders of Algorithms I and II are both O(h J ) in the energy norm; in Algorithm I the estimation depends on the number of grids, while Algorithm II does not. Algorithm III is based on Picard linearization techniques and Algorithm IV on Newton iteration. Both algorithms have convergence order—O(h J ).  相似文献

We consider a parabolic differential equation with nonlocal boundary conditions. We find an explicit solution of the problem and prove the uniqueness of the solution. Analysis of the explicit solution reveals that it has three physically different linear components. The first component is of standing wave type, and the other two are of right- and left-going wave types, respectively. The speed of propagation of the heat waves depends on constants present in nonlocal boundary conditions. We give examples of right-going heat waves that have constant energy. In this article, we provide a variational theory for nonlocal problems where nonlocality arises due to the interaction in a given horizon. With this theory, we prove well-posedness results for the weak formulation of nonlocal boundary value problems with Dirichlet, Neumann, and mixed boundary conditions for a class of kernel functions. The motivating application for nonlocal boundary value problems is the scalar stationary peridynamics equation of motion. The well-posedness results support practical kernel functions used in the peridynamics setting.

We also prove a spectral equivalence estimate which leads to a mesh size independent upper bound for the condition number of an underlying discretized operator. This is a fundamental conditioning result that would guide preconditioner construction for nonlocal problems. The estimate is a consequence of a nonlocal Poincaré-type inequality that reveals a horizon size quantification. We provide an example that establishes the sharpness of the upper bound in the spectral equivalence.  相似文献

In paper [4] (J. Comput. Appl. Math.,76 (1996), 137-146), a difference scheme for a class of nonlocal parabolic equations with natural boundary conditions was derived by the method of reduction of order and the unique solvability and second order convergence in $L_2$-norm are proved. In this paper, we prove that the scheme is second order convergent in $L_\infty$ norm and then obtain fourth order accuracy approximation in $L_\infty$ norm by extrapolation method. In this paper, we investigate the blow-up properties of a quasilinear reaction-diffusion system with nonlocal nonlinear sources and weighted nonlocal Dirichlet boundary conditions. The critical exponent is determined under various situations of the weight functions. It is observed that the boundary weight functions play an important role in determining the blow-up conditions. In addition, the blow-up rate estimate of non-global solutions for a class of weight functions is also obtained, which is found to be independent of nonlinear diffusion parameters m and n.  相似文献

In this article, we study the convergence analysis for the initial and boundary value problem of parabolic equations on a disk with singular solutions. It is assumed that the exact solution performs singular properties that its derivatives go to infinity at the boundary of the disk. We propose a fully implicit time-stepping numerical scheme. A stretching polynomial-like function with a parameter is used to construct a local grid refinement. Over the nonuniform partition, we combine the Swartztrauber-Sweet scheme and the backward Euler method in spatial and temporal discretization, respectively. We carry out convergence analysis and analyze the effects of the parameter. It is shown that our numerical scheme is of first order accuracy for temporal discretization and of almost second order accuracy for spatial discretization. Numerical experiments are performed to illustrate our analysis results and show that there exists an optimal value for the parameter to obtain a best approximate solution.  相似文献

We prove Gaussian upper bounds for kernels associated with non – symmetric, non – autonomous second order parabolic operators of divergence form subject to various boundary conditions. The growth of the kernel in time is determined by theboundary conditions and the geometric properties of the domain. The theory gives a unified treatment for Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin boundary conditions, and the existence of a Gaussian type bound is essentially reduced to verifying some properties of the Hilbert space in the weak formulation of the problem.  相似文献

If Y is a subset of the space ℝn × ℝn, we call a pair of continuous functions U, V Y-compatible, if they map the space ℝn into itself and satisfy Ux · Vy ≥ 0, for all (x, y) ∈ Y with x · y ≥ 0. (Dot denotes inner product.) In this paper a nonlinear two point boundary value problem for a second order ordinary differential n-dimensional system is investigated, provided the boundary conditions are given via a pair of compatible mappings. By using a truncation of the initial equation and restrictions of its domain, Brouwer's fixed point theorem is applied to the composition of the consequent mapping with some projections and a one-parameter family of fixed points P δ is obtained. Then passing to the limits as δ tends to zero the so-obtained accumulation points are solutions of the problem.  相似文献
