A hyperbolic Stefan problem based on the linearized Gurtin—Pipkin heat conduction law is considered. The temperature and free boundary are controlled by a thermostat acting on the boundary. This feedback control is based on temperature measurements performed by real thermal sensors located within the domain containing the two-phase system and/or at its boundary. Three different types of thermostats are analyzed: simple switch, relay switch, and a Preisach hysteresis operator. The resulting models lead to integrodifferential hyperbolic Stefan problems with nonlinear and nonlocal boundary conditions. Existence results are proved in all the cases. Uniqueness is also shown, except in the situation corresponding to the ideal switch. Accepted 27 May 1997  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to study a free boundary problem for a uniformly elliptic fully non-linear operator. Under certain assumptions we show that free and fixed boundaries meet tangentially at contact points.  相似文献

Summary The method of lines is used to solve Poisson's equation on an irregular domain with nonlinear or free boundary conditions. The partial differential equation is approximated by a system of second order ordinary differential equations subject to multi-point boundary conditions. The system is solved with an SOR iteration which employs invariant imbedding for each one dimensional problem. An application of the method to a boundary control problem and to a free surface problem arising in electrochemical machining is described. Finally, some theoretical convergence results are presented for a model problem with radiative boundary conditions on fixed boundaries. This work was supported by the U.S. Army Research Office under Grant DA-AG29-76-G-0261  相似文献

In this paper we study a two-phase one-dimensional free boundary problem for parabolic equation, arising from a mathematical model for Bingham-like fluids with visco-elastic core presented in [L. Fusi, A. Farina, A mathematical model for Bingham-like fluids with visco-elastic core, Z. Angew. Math. Phys. 55 (2004) 826-847]. The main feature of this problem consists in the very peculiar structure of the free boundary condition, not allowing to use classical tools to prove well posedness. Local existence is proved using a fixed point argument based on Schauder's theorem. Uniqueness is proved using a non-standard technique based on a weak formulation of the problem.  相似文献

We investigate the regularity of a free boundary near contact points with a fixed boundary, with C1,1 boundary data, for an obstacle-like free boundary problem. We will show that under certain assumptions on the solution, and the boundary function, the free boundary is uniformly C1 up to the fixed boundary. We will also construct some examples of irregular free boundaries.  相似文献

We study the mean curvature flow of radially symmetric graphs with prescribed contact angle on a fixed, smooth hypersurface in Euclidean space. In this paper we treat two distinct problems. The first problem has a free Neumann boundary only, while the second has two disjoint boundaries, a free Neumann boundary and a fixed Dirichlet height. We separate the two problems and prove that under certain initial conditions we have either long time existence followed by convergence to a minimal surface, or finite maximal time of existence at the end of which the graphs develop a curvature singularity. We also give a rate of convergence for the singularity.  相似文献

A moving boundary problem with two free boundaries modeling a two-dimensional idealized MEMS device with pull-in instability is discussed. We use a fixed point argument to show that the model possesses stationary solutions for small source voltages. We also give a rigorous evidence that solutions of the model converge towards solutions of the associated small aspect ratio equation in the vanishing aspect ratio limit.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the uniqueness problem of a two-phase elliptic free boundary problem arising from the phase transition problem subject to given boundary data. We show that in general the comparison principle between the sub- and super-solutions does not hold, and there is no uniqueness of either a viscosity solution or a minimizer of this free boundary problem by constructing counter-examples in various cases in any dimension. In one-dimension, a bifurcation phenomenon presents and the uniqueness problem has been completely analyzed. In fact, the critical case signifies the change from uniqueness to non-uniqueness of a solution of the free boundary problem. Non-uniqueness of a solution of the free boundary problem suggests different physical stationary states caused by different processes, such as melting of ice or solidification of water, even with the same prescribed boundary data. However, we prove that a uniqueness theorem is true for the initial-boundary value problem of an ε-evolutionary problem which is the smoothed two-phase parabolic free boundary problem.  相似文献

In this paper we consider a class of diffusive ecological models with two free boundaries and with cross-diffusion and self-diffusion in one space dimension. The systems under consideration are strongly coupled, and the position of each free boundary is determined by the Stefan condition. We first show local existence of the solutions for the ecological models under some assumptions, and then prove the global existence of the solutions under extra assumptions. Our approach to the problem is by suitable changes, fixed point theorems and various estimates. Applications of these results are given to a two-species diffusive predator–prey model and a two-species diffusive competition model.  相似文献

In this paper, we prove a bifurcation phenomenon in a two-phase, singularly perturbed, free boundary problem of phase transition. We show that the uniqueness of the solution for the two-phase problem breaks down as the boundary data decreases through a threshold value. For boundary values below the threshold, there are at least three solutions, namely, the harmonic solution which is treated as a trivial solution in the absence of a free boundary, a nontrivial minimizer of the functional under consideration, and a third solution of the mountain-pass type. We classify these solutions according to the stability through evolution. The evolution with initial data near a stable solution, such as the trivial harmonic solution or a minimizer of the functional, converges to the stable solution. On the other hand, the evolution deviates away from a non-minimal solution of the free boundary problem.  相似文献

This paper deals with a free boundary problem which is used to describe the two-species competitive model in ecology. The existence and uniqueness of a global classical solution are given by invoking the Schauder fixed point theorem. We study the evolution of the free boundary problem and show that the free boundary problem is well posed.  相似文献

This paper deals with a mathematical model describing the cell cycle dynamics and chemotactic driven cell movement in a multicellular tumor spheroid. Tumor cells consist of two types of cells: proliferating cells and quiescent cells, which have different chemotactic responses to an extracellular nutrient supply. The model is a free boundary problem for a nonlinear system of reaction-diffusion-advection equations, where the free boundary is the outer boundary of the spheroid. The free boundary condition is quite novel due to different velocity of two types of cells. The global existence and uniqueness of solutions to the model is proved. The proof is based on a fixed point argument, together with the Lp-theory for parabolic equations with the third boundary condition.  相似文献

In Voller, Swenson and Paola [V.R. Voller, J.B. Swenson, C. Paola, An analytical solution for a Stefan problem with variable latent heat, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 47 (2004) 5387-5390], and Lorenzo-Trueba and Voller [J. Lorenzo-Trueba, V.R. Voller, Analytical and numerical solution of a generalized Stefan problem exhibiting two moving boundaries with application to ocean delta formation, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 366 (2010) 538-549], a model associated with the formation of sedimentary ocean deltas is studied through a one-phase Stefan-like problem with variable latent heat. Motivated by these works, we consider a two-phase Stefan problem with variable latent of fusion and initial temperature, and constant heat flux boundary conditions. We obtain the sufficient condition on the data in order to have an explicit solution of a similarity type of the corresponding free boundary problem for a semi-infinite material. Moreover, the explicit solution given in the first quoted paper can be recovered for a particular case by taking a null heat flux condition at the infinity.  相似文献

In this paper we study the regularity of the free boundary in a general two-phase free boundary problem for the p-Laplace operator and we prove, in particular, that Lipschitz free boundaries are C1,γ-smooth for some γ∈(0,1). As part of our argument, and which is of independent interest, we establish a Hopf boundary type principle for non-negative p-harmonic functions vanishing on a portion of the boundary of a Lipschitz domain.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate regularity of solutions to a free boundary problem modeling tumor growth in fluid-like tissues. The model equations include a quasi-stationary diffusion equation for the nutrient concentration, and a Stokes equation with a source representing the proliferation density of the tumor cells, subject to a boundary condition with stress tensor effected by surface tension. This problem is a fully nonlinear problem involving nonlocal terms. Based on the employment of the functional analytic method and the theory of maximal regularity, we prove that the free boundary of this problem is real analytic in temporal and spatial variables for initial data of less regularity.  相似文献

The problem of controlling the phase boundary evolution in the course of solidification of metals with different thermodynamic properties is studied. The underlying mathematical model of the process is based on a three-dimensional nonstationary two-phase initial–boundary value problem of the Stefan type. The control functions are determined by optimal control problems, which are solved numerically with the help of gradient optimization methods. The gradient of the cost function is exactly computed by applying the fast automatic differentiation technique. The research results are described and analyzed. Some of them are illustrated.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate a free boundary problem describing S–K–T competition ecological model with two competing species and with cross-diffusion and self-diffusion in one space dimension, where one species is made up of two groups separated by a free boundary, and the other has a single group. The system under consideration is strongly coupled and the coefficients of the equations are allowed to be discontinuous. We first show the global existence and uniqueness of the solutions for the corresponding diffraction problem by approximation method, Galerkin method and Schauder fixed point theorem, and then prove the local existence of the solutions for the free boundary problem by Schauder fixed point theorem.  相似文献

This paper considers a two-phase free boundary problem for coupled system including one parabolic equation and two elliptic equations. The problem comes from the discussion of a growth model of self-lnaintaining protocell in multidimensional case. The local classical solution of the problem with free boundary F : y = g(x,t) between two domains is being seeked. The local existence and uniqueness of the problem will be proved in multidimensional case.  相似文献
