Metro Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) has been touted by its proponents as the future of optical telecommunications in the metro market. But is it? Its proponents have presented it as a natural extension of long haul DWDM into the metro network. But can Metro DWDM be cost justified and, if so, under what conditions? Whether and to what extent the economics of metro DWDM will change over time are other major questions certain to affect materially the acceptance of metro DWDM and thus the market opportunity for manufacturers of metro DWDM equipment. Finally, questions concerning regional variations in the market opportunity for Metro DWDM equipment must be answered.  相似文献

With the advent of OC-192, the limits of SONET-based networking have become apparent. Routing and regenerating OC-192 signals pose serious demands on telecommunications networks; electronic routing and switching technology simply has not advanced at the pace that optical networking technology has. An "electronic bottleneck" is emerging, creating an opportunity for optical networking vendors and carriers to move forward into the next phase of telecommunications systems. The operation of the self-excited Brillouin/erbium fiber laser (BEFL) is experimentally demonstrated. It uses a forward pumped erbium-doped fiber (EDF) as a gain medium to generate a Brillouin-pump (BP) and amplify the Stokes frequency signals generated in a single-mode fiber (SMF). The operating wavelength varies with changes of coupling ratio of the looping arm. The optimum BEFL operation is obtained with a center wavelength at 1567.5 nm by looping back 20% of BEFL output into the other end of the SMF. The BEFL output power and number of lines increases gradually as 980-nm pump power increases. At the maximum 980-nm pump power of 118 mW, a stable and strong BEFL comb of up to 16 lines with 11 GHz spacing is demonstrated. The self-excited BEFL has the potential to be used in the future dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) communication system.  相似文献

研究了一种新型模拟双折射结构DWDM滤波器的中心频率和带宽的可调谐特性.研究表明:当给定满足一定平坦化要求的光谱透射率所需的各模拟波片中偏振旋转器的旋转角时,通过模拟波片中楔形介质对的相对位移来调节光在各模拟波片中的光程差,同时保持光程差仍满足特定的比例关系,可实现中心频率及带宽的调谐.当光在各模拟波片中的光程差变化较小时,可实现中心频率的调谐,此时带宽的改变很小,可忽略不计;随着光程差变化的不断增大,带宽的改变则不能忽略.  相似文献

The transmission of 40 Gb/s wavelength multiplexed channels under vestigial single side band modulation format is transmitted over long haul optically amplified fiber systems. Bit-error-rate (BER) of 10−12 or better can be achieved across all channels. Optical filters are designed with asymmetric roll-off bands. Simulations of the transmission performance, BER versus receiver sensitivity are demonstrated with wavelength channel spacing of 20–40 GHz. An optical filter, whose passband is 28 GHz and 20 dB cut-off band, performs best for 40 Gb/s bit rate due to optimum filtering and minimum noise contribution. Furthermore the single-sideband property of VSB format can assist linear equalization by electronic processing. The transmission performance is accurately evaluated based on the eye opening using a fast statistical method based on an equivalent Gaussian probability density distribution (pdf) which is derived from multiple peaks pdf of distorted eye diagram.  相似文献

The developments made over the years in WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), on one side, produced compensation of increasing traffic and channel capacity, but on other side, pertinently caused WDM systems to undergo different linear and non-linear effects thereby degrading the performance as such. To overcome linear effects is relatively convenient and manageable, however, the non-linear effects including four wave mixing (FWM) is not only difficult to eliminate but also highly incompatible from system point of view. In this research, valid parameters which lead to generation and enhancement of FWM, are discussed, simulated and based on exhaustive sets of obtained results, a detailed analysis has been carried out to reduce the FWM. The simulated results obtained by exploiting nine important parameters using Optisys simulator, divulge very incisive information for the removal of nonlinear effects in WDM. The authors are reasonably confident to extend their results as a contribution in the subject area.  相似文献

对光梳状滤波器加薄膜滤光片型模块制作密集波分复用器(DWDM)的两种应用方案进行了研究,提出了一种提高插损一致性、信道隔离度及减小串扰的结构方案。对新结构方案与常规结构方案进行了理论分析及实验研究,结果表明新结构可将级联次级峰由大于-30dB降至-50dB以下。用16波50GHz的密集波分复用器件拼接进行的实验表明最终器件的插损减小0.869dB,插损一致性减小2.005dB,相邻信道隔离度提高1.004dB,非相邻信道隔离度提高42.903dB.总串扰提高1.68dB。该方案不仅可以应用到光梳状滤波器与薄膜滤光片型模块拼接高性能的超密集波分复用器件.同样也可适用于阵列波导光栅等类型的密集波分复用器件中以降低工艺难度,提高性能指标。  相似文献

This paper presents a novel configuration of channel drop filters based on two-dimensional photonic crystal slabs in silicon-on-insulator platforms. The structure is composed of two photonic crystal line-defect waveguides as input and output ports, along with an L3 cavity with ring-shaped border holes. The effects of structural parameters and fabrication errors on resonance frequency and drop efficiency are investigated. Band structure and propagation of electromagnetic field through device are calculated by plane wave expansion and finite-difference time-domain methods. The results show that the quality factor and line-width of output signal are ~5690 and 0.27 nm, respectively, indicating that the proposed filter can be properly used in dense wavelength division multiplexing systems with 0.8 nm channel spacing.  相似文献

We present here a novel proposal for multichannel narrowband DWDM filter design, based on Generalized Aperiodic Thue-Morse (GATM) multilayer structures. Transmission spectra of light propagation through these structures are studied in this article. Numerical simulations in this research show an ultra high efficiency and a very low crosstalk for this filter so that the total transmission of filter output channels is up to 100% and the range of output wavelength is 1550 nm which is suitable for DWDM communication systems. By studying the effects of parameters of GATM structure, we realized that by varying parameters such as number of layers, distance between layers, refractive index of layers, etc., a suitable DWDM filter can be accomplished, which is in accordance with the communication ITU-T standard. This narrowband DWDM filter has capability of changing the number of channels and the bandwidth of each channel, at the special wavelength. By changing the thickness of each layer, the transmittance wavelength of the filter will change. The main advantage of the Thue-Morse structure is the numbers of selective layers, which in our designed structure, we choose GATM(3,2) where m = 3 and n = 2 in BmAn, and for the first time we change both m and n simultaneously in the proposed structure to control optical properties of the introduced filter.  相似文献

A novel technique to overcome the long-term drift and hysteresis of a scanning Fabry–Perot filter was developed and applied to wavelength and power monitoring of DWDM system. By using the comb peaks generated by a temperature-stabilized, near threshold-biased Fabry–Perot diode laser as wavelength reference for the scanning Fabry–Perot filter, wavelength and power measurement accuracy of better than ±10 pm and 0.2 dB, respectively, were achieved.  相似文献

A novel super forward error correction (SFEC) coding scheme, based on the block turbo code (BTC) of Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocguenghem (BCH)(64,57)×BCH(64,57), in high-speed long-haul dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optical communication systems is proposed. The simulation results and its analyses show that the net coding gain (NCG) of the novel SFEC code at iteration 6 is, respectively, 0.31 and 0.34 dB more than those of the BCH(3860, 3824)+BCH(2040, 1930) code and Reed–Solomon (RS)(255,239)+convolutional–self-orthogonal code (CSOC)(k0/n0=6/7, J=8) code in the Recommendation of ITU-T G.975.1 at iteration 3 for the bit error rate (BER) of 10−12. The performance analyses for the novel SFEC code show that it has excellent advantages such as the shorter component code and rapid encoding/decoding speed; thus, both the complexity to implement its software/hardware and the delay time for its encoding/decoding can be greatly reduced. As a result, the novel SFEC coding scheme can better be applicable in high-speed long-haul DWDM optical communication systems. In addition, the design and implementation of the novel BTC are also analyzed and probed.  相似文献

介绍了一种以FP谐振腔为基础,用于波分复用系统的MOEMS器件-电控可调谐FP光滤波器.器件采用微电子机械加工技术研制.研究了FP型解复用器在密集波分复用系统中引入的信道间串扰对系统的影响,并分别讨论了激光器线宽、滤波器带宽、信道间距对串扰的影响.在信道间隔为100GHz,激光器线宽为5GHz,串扰可达到-21dB左右.  相似文献

A cost-saving, crosstalk-free and bidirectional optical add-drop multiplexer (B-OADM) based on cascaded thin-film optical add-drop filters (TFOADFs) with optical circulators as well as the optical protection function promptly restored at the access node for a single-fiber self-healing access ring network are proposed and demonstrated. Using this B-TFOADM configuration, no crosstalk appears on the dropped and added channels, respectively. The bit-error rate performances in this B-OADM are investigated in a 2.5-Gb/s DWDM system, showing no intraband and interband crosstalk-induced power penalties. Such crosstalk-free and bidirectional architecture greatly simplifies the hub complexity as well as the low-cost components at each node are employed.  相似文献

光学元件磨削加工引入的亚表面损伤威胁着光学元件的使用性能及寿命,成为现阶段高能激光发展的瓶颈问题,特别是抛光表面光学元件的亚表面损伤检测已成为光学元件制造行业的研究热点和难点.本文结合光学共聚焦成像、层析技术、显微光学、光学散射以及微弱信号处理等技术,给出了基于光学共焦层析显微成像的光学元件亚表面损伤检测方法.分析了不同针孔大小对测量准确度的影响,并首次给出了亚表面损伤的纵向截面分布图.与腐蚀法比较结果显示:针对自行加工的同一片K9玻璃,采用本文提出的方法测得的亚表面损伤深度45 μm左右;采用化学腐蚀处理技术,对光学元件逐层刻蚀,观察得到的亚表面损伤深度50~55 μm.两者基本一致,进一步验证了本文采用的方法可以实现对光学元件亚表面损伤的定量、非破坏检测.  相似文献
