Sulfur dioxide (SO2) trace gas detection based on quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) using a continuous wave, distributed feedback quantum cascade laser operating at 7.24 μm was performed. Influence of water vapor addition on monitored QEPAS SO2 signal was also investigated. A normalized noise equivalent absorption coefficient of NNEA (1σ) = 1.21 × 10?8 cm?1 W Hz?1/2 was obtained for the ν 3 SO2 line centered at 1,380.93 cm?1 when the gas sample was moisturized with 2.3 % H2O. This corresponds to a minimum detection limit (1σ) of 63 parts per billion by volume for a 1 s lock-in time constant.  相似文献

A compact two-gas sensor based on quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) was developed for trace methane and ammonia quantification in impure hydrogen. The sensor is equipped with a micro-resonator to confine the sound wave and enhance QEPAS signal. The normalized noise-equivalent absorption coefficients (1σ) of 2.45×10?8 cm?1?W/ $\sqrt{}$ Hz and 9.1×10?9 cm?1?W/ $\sqrt{}$ Hz for CH4 detection at 200 Torr and NH3 detection at 50 Torr were demonstrated with the QEPAS sensor configuration, respectively. The influence of water vapor on the CH4 channel was also investigated.  相似文献

A resonant photoacoustic cell capable of detecting the traces of gases at an amplitude-modulation regime is represented. The cell is designed so as to minimize the window background for the cell operation at a selected acoustic resonance. A compact prototype cell (the volume of acoustic cavity of ~0.2 cm3, total cell weight of 3.5 g) adapted to the narrow diffraction-limited beam of near-infrared laser is produced and examined experimentally. The noise-associated measurement error and laser-initiated signals are studied as functions of modulation frequency. The background signal and useful response to light absorption by the gas are analyzed in measurements of absorption for ammonia traces in nitrogen flow with the help of a pigtailed DFB laser diode operated near a wavelength of 1.53 µm. The performance of absorption detection and gas-leak sensing for the prototype operated at the second longitudinal acoustic resonance (the resonance frequency of ~4.38 kHz, Q-factor of ~13.9) is estimated. The noise-equivalent absorption normalized to laser-beam power, and detection bandwidth is ~1.44 × 10?9 cm?1 W Hz?1/2. The amplitude of the window-background signal is equivalent to an absorption coefficient of ~2.82 × 10?7 cm?1.  相似文献

The development of a continuous wave, thermoelectrically cooled (TEC), distributed feedback diode laser-based spectroscopic trace-gas sensor for ultra-sensitive and selective ethane (C2H6) concentration measurements is reported. The sensor platform used tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) and wavelength modulation spectroscopy as the detection technique. TDLAS was performed using an ultra-compact 57.6 m effective optical path length innovative spherical multipass cell capable of 459 passes between two mirrors separated by 12.5 cm and optimized for the 2.5–4 μm range TEC mercury–cadmium–telluride detector. For an interference-free C2H6 absorption line located at 2,976.8 cm?1, a 1σ minimum detection limit of 740 pptv with a 1 s lock-in amplifier time constant was achieved.  相似文献

An innovative spectroscopic system based on an external cavity quantum cascade laser (EC-QCL) coupled with a mid-infrared (mid-IR) fiber and quartz enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS) is described. SF6 has been selected as a target gas in demonstration of the system for trace gas sensing. Single mode laser delivery through the prongs of the quartz tuning fork has been obtained employing a hollow waveguide fiber with inner silver–silver iodine (Ag–AgI) coatings and internal core diameter of 300 μm. A detailed design and realization of the QCL fiber coupling and output collimator system allowed almost practically all (99.4 %) of the laser beam to be transmitted through the spectrophone module. The achieved sensitivity of the system is 50 parts per trillion in 1 s, corresponding to a record for QEPAS normalized noise-equivalent absorption of 2.7 × 10?10 W cm?1 Hz?1/2.  相似文献

We developed a low-power, portable, wireless laser spectroscopic sensor for atmospheric CO2 monitoring. The sensor is based on tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy with a 2-μm wavelength VCSEL as a source and wavelength modulation technique for spectroscopic signal detection. The sensor allows measurement of CO2 concentration changes with a 1σ sensitivity of 0.14 ppmv?Hz?1/2. This sensor was both laboratory and field tested under varying environmental conditions. It was used to measure a soil respiration rate of topsoil in the lab and of forest floors in the field. Measurement results are compared with those of commercial non-dispersive infrared sensors and very good agreement is found.  相似文献

A Nd3+:Na2La4(WO4)7 crystal with dimensions of ? 17 × 30 mm3 was grown by the Czochralski method. The thermal expansion coefficients of Nd3+:Na2La4(WO4)7 crystal are 1.32 × 10?5 K?1 along c-axis and 1.23 × 10?5 K?1 along a-axis, respectively. The spectroscopic characteristics of Nd3+:Na2La4(WO4)7 crystal were investigated. The Judd–Ofelt theory was applied to calculate the spectral parameters. The absorption cross sections at 805 nm are 2.17 × 10?20 cm2 with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 15 nm for π-polarization, and 2.29 × 10?20 cm2 with a FWHM of 14 nm for σ-polarization. The emission cross sections are 3.19 × 10?20 cm2 for σ-polarization and 2.67 × 10?20 cm2 for π-polarization at 1,064 nm. The fluorescence quantum efficiency is 67 %. The quasi-cw laser of Nd3+:Na2La4(WO4)7 crystal was performed. The maximum output power is 80 mW. The slope efficiency is 7.12 %. The results suggest Nd3+:Na2La4(WO4)7 crystal as a promising laser crystal fit for laser diode pumping.  相似文献

Optical feedback cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy (OF CEAS) has been demonstrated with a thermoelectrically cooled continuous wave distributed feedback quantum cascade laser (QCL) operating at wavelengths around 7.84 μm. The QCL is coupled to an optical cavity which creates an absorption pathlength greater than 1000 m. The experimental design allows optical feedback of infra-red light, resonant within the cavity, to the QCL, which initiates self-locking at each TEM00 cavity mode frequency excited. The QCL linewidth is narrowed to below the mode linewidth, greatly increasing the efficiency of injection of light into the cavity. At the frequency of each longitudinal cavity mode, the absorption coefficient of an intracavity sample is obtained from the transmission at the mode maximum, measured with a thermoelectrically cooled detector: spectral line profiles of CH4 and N2O in ambient air were recorded simultaneously and with a resolution of 0.01386 cm?1. A minimum detectable absorption coefficient of 5.5×10?8 cm?1 was demonstrated after an averaging time of 1 s for this completely thermoelectrically cooled system. The bandwidth-normalised limit for a single cavity mode is 5.6×10?9 cm?1?Hz?1/2 (1σ).  相似文献

Measurements of carbon monoxide (CO) mixing ratios in Houston, Texas, during the period from May 16, 2013 to May 28, 2013 were performed using a sensitive, selective, compact, and portable quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS)-based CO sensor employing a high-power continuous wave (CW) distributed feedback quantum cascade laser (DFB-QCL). The minimum detectable CO concentration was 3 ppbv for the strong, interference-free R(6) absorption line at 2,169.2 cm?1 and a 5 s data acquisition time. The average CO concentration during the measurement period was 299.1 ± 81.4 ppb with observed minimum and maximum values of 210.5 and 4,307.9 ppb, respectively. A commercially available electrochemical sensor was employed in-line for simultaneous measurements to confirm the response of the CW DFB-QCL-based QEPAS sensor to variations of the CO mixing ratios. Moderate agreement (R 2 = 0.7) was found between both sets of CO measurements.  相似文献

A photoacoustic ozone sensor based on quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy is presented. Instead of a laser, a UV-LED at 285 nm is utilized as light source. Using an acoustical resonator in off-beam configuration, it is feasible to align the light of the LED through the resonator tube. The sensor is integrated in a miniaturized flow-through gas cell which allows fast gas exchange. The sensor performance and the influence of the speed of sound on the measurement signal are investigated. For the detection of ozone in the Hartley band, a detection limit of S = 1.27 ± 0.08 ppmv (1σ) and a noise equivalent absorption sensitivity of D = (3.02 × 10?8 ± 1 × 10?10) cm?1W(Hz)?1/2 have been achieved.  相似文献

We present a new possibility for the active frequency stabilization of a laser using transitions in neutral praseodymium. Because of its five outer electrons, this element shows a high density of energy levels leading to an extremely line-rich excitation spectrum with more than 25?000 known spectral lines ranging from the UV to the infrared. We demonstrate the active frequency stabilization of a diode laser on several praseodymium lines between 1105 and 1123 nm. The excitation signals were recorded in a hollow cathode lamp and observed via laser-induced fluorescence. These signals are strong enough to lock the diode laser onto most of the lines by using standard laser locking techniques. In this way, the frequency drifts of the unlocked laser of more than 30 MHz/h were eliminated and the laser frequency stabilized to within 1.4(1) MHz for averaging times >0.2 s. Frequency quadrupling the stabilized diode laser can produce frequency-stable UV-light in the range from 276 to 281 nm. In particular, using a strong hyperfine component of the praseodymium excitation line E=16?502.6167/2 cm $^{-1}\rightarrow E'=25\,442.742^{\mathrm{o}}_{9/2}$  cm?1 at λ=1118.5397(4) nm makes it possible—after frequency quadruplication—to produce laser radiation at λ/4=279.6349(1) nm, which can be used to excite the D2 line in Mg+.

We report what we believe to be a novel demonstration of simultaneous detection of multiple trace gases by near-IR tunable diode laser photoacoustic spectroscopy using a cell containing a cantilever microphone. Simultaneous detection of carbon monoxide (CO), ethyne (C2H2), methane (CH4) and combined carbon monoxide/carbon dioxide (CO+CO2) in nitrogen-based gas mixtures was achieved by modulation frequency division multiplexing the outputs of four near-IR tunable diode lasers. Normalized noise-equivalent absorption coefficients of 3.4×10?9, 3.6×10?9 and 1.4×10?9 cm?1?W?Hz?1/2 were obtained for the simultaneous detection of CO, C2H2 and CH4 at atmospheric pressure. These corresponded to noise-equivalent detection limits of 249.6 ppmv (CO), 1.5 ppmv (C2H2) and 293.7 ppmv (CH4) respectively over a measurement period of 2.6 s at the relevant laser power. The performance of the system was not influenced by the number of lasers deployed, the main source of noise arising from ambient acoustic effects. The results confirm that small-volume photoacoustic cells can be used with low optical power tunable diode lasers for rapid simultaneous detection of trace gases with high sensitivity and specificity.  相似文献

A combination of optical feedback self-locking of a continuous-wave distributed feedback diode laser to a V-shaped high finesse cavity, laser phase modulation at a frequency equal to the free spectral range of the V-cavity and detection of the transmitted laser beam at this high modulation frequency is described for the possible application in cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy. In order to estimate the noise level of an absorbance baseline, the triplet of frequency modulated light, i.e. the central laser frequency and the two sidebands, were transmitted through both the V-cavity in open air and a 1.5-cm long optical cell placed behind the cavity output mirror and filled with acetylene (C2H2) at low pressure. The performance of the setup was evaluated from the measured relative intensity noise on the cavity output (normalised by the bandwidth) and the frequency modulation absorption signals induced by C2H2 absorption in the 1.5-cm cell. From these data, we estimate that the noise-equivalent absorption sensitivity of 2.1 × 10?11 cm?1 Hz?1/2—by a factor of 11.7 above the shot-noise limit—can be achieved for C2H2 absorption spectra extracted from the heterodyne beat signals recorded at the transmission maxima intensity peaks of the successive TEM00 resonances.  相似文献

A continuous wave optical parametric oscillator, generating up to 300 mW idler output in the 3–4 μm wavelength region, and pumped by a fiber-amplified DBR diode laser is used for trace gas detection by means of quartz-enhanced photoacoustic spectroscopy (QEPAS). Mode-hop-free tuning of the OPO output over 5.2 cm-1 and continuous spectral coverage exceeding 16.5 cm-1 were achieved via electronic pump source tuning alone. Online monitoring of the idler wavelength, with feedback to the DBR diode laser, provided an automated closed-loop control allowing arbitrary idler wavelength selection within the pump tuning range and locking of the idler wavelength with a stability of 1.7×10-3 cm-1 over at least 30 min. Using this approach, we locked the idler wavelength at an ethane absorption peak and obtained QEPAS data to verify the linear response of the QEPAS signal at different ethane concentrations (100 ppbv-20 ppmv) and different power levels. The detection limit for ethane was determined to be 13 ppbv (20 s averaging), corresponding to a normalized noise equivalent absorption coefficient of 4.4×10-7 cm-1  W/Hz1/2. A quantum cascade laser (QCL)-based absorption sensor for the simultaneous dual-species monitoring of CH4 and N2O was developed using a novel compact multipass gas cell (MGC). This sensor uses a thermoelectrically cooled, continuous wave, distributed feedback QCL operating at ~7.8 µm. The QCL wavelength was scanned over two neighboring CH4 (1275.04 cm?1) and N2O (1274.61 cm?1) lines at a 1 Hz repetition rate. Wavelength modulation spectroscopy (f = 10 kHz) with second harmonic (2f) detection was performed to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio. An ultra-compact MGC (16.9 cm long and a 225 ml sampling volume) was utilized to achieve an effective optical path length of 57.6 m. With such a sensor configuration, a detection limit of 5.9 ppb for CH4 and 2.6 ppb for N2O was achieved, respectively, at 1-s averaging time.  相似文献

We describe a technique of simultaneous detection of 14NO and 15NO by means of Faraday Modulation Spectroscopy (FAMOS) based on a cw distributed feedback quantum cascade laser (QCL) operating near 5.4 μm. FAMOS is a spectroscopic method for selective, sensitive, and time-resolved detection of free radical molecules such as NO, in the mid-infrared spectral region. The selected spectral lines are the Q (1.5) for 15NO located at 1842.76 cm?1 and the P (9.5) for 14NO located at 1842.93 cm?1. The detection limit (1σ) of 6 ppb $/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ for 15NO and 62 ppb $/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ for 14NO has been achieved. The simultaneous detection was performed using a fast laser frequency switching between the two isotopologues with a time resolution of 2 s. The isotope ratio (δ 15N) has been determined with a precision (1σ) of 0.52‰ at 800-s averaging time for 100 ppm NO-gas with a time resolution of 2 s. δ 15N is determined after NO release from nitrite by chemical reduction with potassium iodine.  相似文献

A continuous-wave laser absorption diagnostic, based on the infrared CO2 bands near 4.2 and 2.7 μm, was developed for sensitive temperature and concentration measurements in high-temperature gas systems using fixed-wavelength methods. Transitions in the respective R-branches of both the fundamental υ 3 band (~2,350 cm?1) and combination υ 1 + υ 3 band (~3,610 cm?1) were chosen based on absorption line-strength, spectral isolation, and temperature sensitivity. The R(76) line near 2,390.52 cm?1 was selected for sensitive CO2 concentration measurements, and a detection limit of <5 ppm was achieved in shock tube kinetics experiments (~1,300 K). A cross-band, two-line thermometry technique was also established utilizing the R(96) line near 2,395.14 cm?1, paired with the R(28) line near 3,633.08 cm?1. This combination yields high temperature sensitivity (ΔE” = 3,305 cm-1) and expanded range compared with previous intra-band CO2 sensors. Thermometry performance was validated in a shock tube over a range of temperatures (600–1,800 K) important for combustion. Measured temperature accuracy was demonstrated to be better than 1 % over the entire range of conditions, with a standard error of ~0.5 % and µs temporal resolution.  相似文献

We have successfully observed high-resolution spectra of spin-forbidden electric quadrupole transition (1 S 03 D 2) in ytterbium (174Yb) atoms. The differential light shifts between the 1 S 0 and the 3 D 2 states in a far-off resonant trap at 532 nm are also measured. For the spectroscopy, we developed simple, narrow-linewidth, and long-term frequency stabilized violet diode laser systems. Long-term drifts of the excitation laser (404 nm) is suppressed by locking the laser to a length stabilized optical cavity. The optical path length of the cavity is stabilized to another diode laser whose frequency is locked to a strong 1 S 01 P 1 transition (399 nm) of Yb. Both lasers are standard extended-cavity diode lasers (ECDLs) in the Littrow configuration. Since the linewidth of a violet ECDL (~10 MHz) is broader than a typical value of a red or near infra-red ECDL (<1 MHz), we employ optical feedback from a narrow-band Fabry–Perot cavity to reduce the linewidth. The linewidth is expected to be <20 kHz for 1 ms averaging time, and the long-term frequency stability is estimated to be ~200 kHz/h.  相似文献

Acetylene (C2H2), as an important precursor for chemiluminescence species, is a key to understand, simulate and model the chemiluminescence and the related reaction paths. Hence we developed a high resolution spectrometer based on direct Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (TDLAS) allowing the first quantitative, calibration-free and spatially resolved in situ C2H2 measurement in an atmospheric non-premixed counter-flow flame supported on a Tsuji burner. A fiber-coupled distributed feedback diode laser near 1535 nm was used to measure several absolute C2H2 concentration profiles (peak concentrations up to 9700 ppm) in a laminar non-premixed CH4/air flame (T up to 1950 K) supported on a modified Tsuji counter-flow burner with N2 purge slots to minimize end flames. We achieve a fractional optical resolution of up to 5×10?5 OD (1σ) in the flame, resulting in temperature-dependent acetylene detection limits for the P17e line at 6513 cm?1 of up to 2.1 ppm?m. Absolute C2H2 concentration profiles were obtained by translating the burner through the laser beam using a DC motor with 100 μm step widths. Intercomparisons of the experimental C2H2 profiles with simulations using our new hydrocarbon oxidation mechanisms show excellent agreement in position, shape and in the absolute C2H2 values.  相似文献
