The pionization region of the inclusive single-particle spectrum is accounted for by double pomeron exchange in the absorptive part of a six-point amplitude. In this paper a multiperipheral model for the six-point amplitude with double pomeron exchange is used for continuation by crossing and analyticity to the physical region of the exclusive two particle → four particle production process. The cross section for π? p → π?(π+π?)p in the double-Regge region is then calculated and compared with the experimental analysis of Lipes, Zweig and Robertson which sets an upper bound to the strength of the double pomeron exchange coupling. This upper bound, coupled with the model for continuation to the inclusive cross section, is shown to give too small a magnitude for the double pomeron exchange in the pionization region. Further avenues for investigation are discussed.  相似文献

The exclusive reactionppppπ+ π? has been studied using the SFM spectrometer at ISR energies of \(\sqrt s = 24\) and 63 GeV. The cross section in the double pomeron exchange region defined by |x p |>0.9, |y π |<1 is 28±6, 23(+13, ?6) and 29(+29, ?10)μb, respectively. The ππ mass spectrum is dominated by an 1/m ππ 2 part, as expected for pomeron pomeron scattering. In addition, thef(1, 270) resonance is clearly distinguished. There are no further resonance signals, which could be assigned to glueball candidates expected in the 1,000 MeV region. Compared to photon photon scattering, the ratio of continuum tof-resonance production cross sections is significantly larger in pomeron pomeron scattering.  相似文献

We present a study of heavy quarkonium production in hard diffractive processes by pomeron exchange for Tevatron and LHC energies. The numerical results are computed using a recent experimental determination of the diffractive parton density functions in the pomeron and these are corrected by unitarity corrections through the gap survival probability factor. We give predictions for single as well as central diffractive ratios. These processes are sensitive to the gluon content of the pomeron at small Bjorken variable x and may be particularly useful in studying small-xphysics. A study of schannel and t-channel helicity conservation has been carried out on a prism plot separated sample of 3.9 GeV/cπ±p → π (Nπ)dd diffraction dissociation events. s-channel helicity conservation is found to be strongly violated while t-channel helicity conservation is found to be mildly violated. These results are similar to that found at 11.7 GeV/c. We explain these violations on the basis of a “two-component model” of which the first component is a single exchange amplitude. We postulate that this amplitude is the generalization of the pomeron exchange amplitude which may conserve s-channel helicity. The second component of the model is a double exchange mechanism which strongly violates s-channel helicity. The predictions of this model agree with the experimental data.  相似文献

A simple model of the vacuum is developed in order to explain the properties of the pomeron observed in experiments. In the model, pomeron exchange corresponds to two-gluon exchange. We explain how it can be that when the pomeron couples to a hadron, the two gluons couple predominantly to the same quark in the hadron, and how together their coupling is similar to that of aC=1 isoscalar photon.  相似文献

We study scaling properties of the diffraction dissociation of virtual photons in a deep inelastic scattering. We concentrate on the total diffraction dissociation rate, diffraction excitation mass spectrum and the pomeron structure function to the lowest order in perturbative QCD. We calculate the valence structure function and the strangeness and charm content of the pomeron and estimate the ocean structure function using the pomeron factorization property. We find that quarks carry ≈ 10% of pomeron's momentum. Differential cross section of the (virtual) photon-pomeron scattering is found to exhibit features typical of the hadronic two-body reactions, supporting a treatment of the Pomeron as a particle, whereas the flavor dependence of structure functions does not support the particle treatment of the pomeron. Diffraction dissociation of photons is predicted to make ≈ 15% of the total deep inelastic scattering rate at smallx and largeQ 2. Detailed predictions for the mass spectrum and angular distribution of jets produced on the valence component of the pomeron are presented.  相似文献

In the hard pomeron theory with the number of colours the diffractive amplitude obtained in [3] is compared with the results found for in [1] and in the dipole approach in [5]. It is shown that the double pomeron exchange contribution can be substituted by an equivalent triple pomeron interaction term. After such a substitution the triple pomeron vertices in [1,3,5] essentially coincide. It is demonstrated that, in any form, the triple pomeron vertex is conformal invariant. It is also shown that higher order densities in the dipole approach do not involve 1 to k pomeron verteces with but are rather given by a set of pomeron fan diagrams with only a triple pomeron coupling. Both the s- and t-channel asymptotic behaviour of a non-planar orientable two-loop four-point amplitude are investigated. A factorized expression for the iterated pomeron singularity, contributing to the s-channel behaviour, has been obtained with an internal pomeron blob closely related to the off-shell “propagator” of Cremmer and Scherk. These results suggest an interpretation in terms of a renormalization scheme of the pomeron. For t-channel asymptotics Regge-cut behaviour arises. Remarks are also made for the corresponding six-point case. Direct expansions of all the relevant functions in terms of group parameters as well as a thorough study of Jacobi's transformation in the double parabolic limit are of crucial importance to prove these results.  相似文献

A low-mass S-wave (ππ)0 enhancement is observed in the reaction pp → p (ππ)0 p at 12 and 24 GeV/c incident momentum. The mechanism for producing these low-mass pion pairs is investigated, and it is shown that double pomeron exchange can contribute at most 5% to their production cross section at 24 GeV/c.  相似文献

The amplitude for 4 interacting reggeized gluons is studied in the high-colour limit. The leading order amplitude is explicitly shown to reduce to a pair of reggeons, i.e to a single BFKL pomeron. The next-to-leading order diffractive amplitude is found to split into a double pomeron exchange and triple pomeron contribution. We investigate the production of a quark-antiquark pair in diffractive photon-proton scattering, approximating soft pomeron exchange by the exchange of two nonperturbative gluons. In deep inelastic scattering at HERA, events with two jets and the scattered proton in the final state are predicted to be observable, with an important contribution from charm production. For photoproduction of light quark jets with high transverse momentum we find that both exchanged gluons must have a large invariant mass, so that the cross section is very small, whereas for charm quarks it is quite appreciable. From our calculation we also extract the quark structure function of the pomeron for the scaling variablez no too close to 0 or 1, finding a strong flavour dependence and a behaviour somewhat harder thanz(1?z) for light quarks.  相似文献

A detailed kinematic study is made of the cross section for double-pomeron exchange. We consider reactions of the type a + bc + d + (h1 + h2 + …) where ac and bd are quasi-elastic transitions with limited momentum transfer and (h1 + h2 + …) is a centrally produced hadron cluster. The dependence of the cross section on the relative azimuthal angle φ between the final hadrons c and d provides an important test for double-pomeron exchange. We calculate this φ-dependence for all cases of interest, using a model in which pomeron exchange is represented by an effective current-current interaction. For limited momentum transfer, where the pomeron spin is nearly equal to one, this model is equivalent to Reggeized pomeron exchange. We give a complete formalism for the partial-wave analysis of the double-pomeron reaction abcd + h12 which differs from the one given by Rushbrooke and Webber. Furthermore, we discuss the two-pomeron vertex, and the construction of detailed and realistic models for double-pomeron reactions.  相似文献

Guided by the parton interpretation of RFT and by QCD, we propose an RFT where the pomeron field depends both onb and onQ 2, the bare propagator describing an inhomogenous random walk inb and in lnQ 2. Here,Q 2 measures the virtuality of the inelastic processes which generate the pomeron exchange amplitude as their shadow. The asymptotic behaviour of such a theory should be different from that of standard RFT, at and above the critical point. Arguments are given in favour of a supercritical pomeron.  相似文献

Large pγ charged pion pair produced in Double Diffractive Dissocjation (DDD) process at high energy is studied with double pomeron (IP) exchange mechanism. Using DonnachieLandshoff pomeron model we have calculated the cross-section of the process at the energy interval from ISR to LHC when the rapidity of the charged pions is approximately equal to zero. It is shown that this process is the favorite in experiments which could effectively be used to examine Donnachie-Landshoff pomeron model and provide a possibility to check the value of the suppression coefficient N2.  相似文献

We present a study of associated J/ψ+γ production through double pomeron exchange at energies reached at the Fermilab Tevatron.and CERN LHC based on the Ingelman-Schlein model for hard difiactive scattering and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic QCD for quarkonia production. We find that the process p+p→p +p + J/ψ+γ + X can be used to probe the gluon content of the pomeron and study the nature of hard difiactive factorization breaking.  相似文献

We suggest that the pseudo-rapidity cut dependence of diffractive deep-inelastic scattering events at HERA may provide a sensitive test of models of diffraction. A comparison with the experimental cross section shows that the Donnachie-Landshoff model and a simple two-gluon exchange model of the pomeron model are disfavoured. However a model with a direct coupling of the pomeron to quarks is viable for a harder quark–pomeron form factor, as is a model based on the leading-twist operator contribution. We also consider a direct-coupling scalar pomeron model. We comment on the implications of these results for the determination of the partonic structure of the pomeron.
