An analytical protocol was set up and successfully applied to study the food safety of recycled HDPE and PP crates. A worst-case scenario was applied that focused not only on overall migration and specific migration of accepted starting materials but also on migratable degradation products of polymers and additives that may be formed during mechanical recycling. The analytical protocol was set up to cover a wide variety of possible migrants. Identification and semi-quantification were possible for almost all migrants that increased significantly with increasing mechanical recycling steps for both the HDPE and PP crates. It was concluded that the analytical protocol was suitable to study the influence of (multiple) recycling on the food safety of plastic materials. The protocol can be applied to other plastic food contact materials and provides valuable information on the food safety of the recycling process and the resulting recycled food contact materials in addition to challenge testing.  相似文献

Nanotechnology has emerged as one of the most innovative technologies and has the potential to improve food quality and safety. However, there are a few studies demonstrating that nanomaterials (NMs) are not inherently benign. This review highlights some current applications of NMs in food, food additives and food-contact materials, and reviews analytical approaches suitable to address food-safety issues related to nanotechnology. We start with a preliminary discussion on the current regulatory situation with respect to nanotechnology in relation to foods. We cover sample preparation, imaging techniques (e.g., electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microscopy), separation methods (e.g., field-flow fractionation and chromatographic techniques) and detection or characterization techniques (e.g., light scattering, Raman spectroscopy and mass spectrometry). We also show the first applications of the analysis of NMs in food matrices.  相似文献

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL) develops and maintains the USDA National Nutrient Databank System (NDBS). Data are released from the NDBS for scientific and public use through the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (SR) (). In 1997 the NDL initiated the National Food and Nutrient Analysis Program (NFNAP) to update and expand its food-composition data. The program included: 1) nationwide probability-based sampling of foods; 2) central processing and archiving of food samples; 3) analysis of food components at commercial, government, and university laboratories; 4) incorporation of new analytical data into the NDBS; and 5) dissemination of these data to the scientific community. A key feature and strength of the NFNAP was a rigorous quality-control program that enabled independent verification of the accuracy and precision of analytical results. Custom-made food-control composites and/or commercially available certified reference materials were sent to the laboratories, blinded, with the samples. Data for these materials were essential to ongoing monitoring of analytical work, to identify and resolve suspected analytical problems, to ensure the accuracy and precision of results for the NFNAP food samples.  相似文献

Certified reference materials (CRMs) play a critical role in validating the accuracy of nutrient data for food samples. A number of available food CRMs of differing matrix composition have assigned concentrations for various nutrients, along with associated uncertainty intervals (UIs) for those values. These CRMs have been used extensively in the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) ongoing National Food and Nutrient Analysis Program (NFNAP) to monitor the accuracy of assays of key foods and nutrients consumed in the United States. A total of 690 assigned values for individual nutrients, including proximates, vitamins, macroelements, microelements, fatty acids, amino acids, and selected phytochemicals (e.g., carotenoids), were compiled from the certificates of analysis for 63 CRMs, and the specified UI in each case was expressed as a percentage of the assigned certified or reference concentration. Across all nutrients, 63.5% of the UIs were less than 10% of the assigned value, 25.5% were 10–20%, and 11% were greater than 20% of the assigned value. The UIs for proximates, minerals, and trace elements were most consistently less than 10% of the assigned value. The relative uncertainties were significantly higher for vitamins, suggesting greater challenges in measuring and certifying these components. These high UIs (greater than 10% assigned value) in the best available reference materials are likely to be indicative of the precision and accuracy that can be obtained by current measurement systems for these components. These data suggest that care must be taken in choosing CRMs to monitor food composition analysis, including evaluating what levels of uncertainty are required in assigned values and which analytical measurement systems for food components need closer examination and improvement. The global epidemic owing to COVID-19 has generated awareness to ensuring best practices for avoiding the microorganism spread. Indeed, because of the increase in infections caused by bacteria and viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, the global demand for antimicrobial materials is growing. New technologies by using polymeric systems are of great interest. Virus transmission by contaminated surfaces leads to the spread of infectious diseases, so antimicrobial coatings are significant in this regard. Moreover, antimicrobial food packaging is beneficial to prevent the spread of microorganisms during food processing and transportation. Furthermore, antimicrobial textiles show an effective role. We aim to provide a review of prepared antimicrobial polymeric materials for use in coating, food packaging, and textile during the COVID-19 pandemic and after pandemic.  相似文献

In Japan, there was a drastic change in food control system, which was brought about by problems with BSE. Food Safety Basic Law was newly enacted and Food Hygiene Law, Japanese Agricultural Standards Law and so on were revised. Food Safety Commission was newly established for risk assessment, and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare were reorganized on food safety. National Food Research Institute (NFRI) works for improvement of technology for food analysis, development of technology to ensure food safety and so on. Objects of food analysis are inorganic elements, acrylamide, mycotoxins, functional components, genetically modified organisms, varieties of rice and so on. Proficiency testing schemes (PTs) were introduced to NFRI for reliability of food analysis. Certified reference materials (CRMs) of food related materials prepared in Japan, and PTs provided by Japanese organization were limited. It is requested for Japanese organizations to prepare new CRMs and provide many kinds of PTs for solution of peculiar problems.  相似文献

This paper describes the development of a multi-analyte method for the determination of polyfunctional amines commonly used as monomers in the manufacture of food contact materials. Amines were analyzed by high-performance-liquid chromatography with diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD) after derivatization with dansyl chloride. The chromatographic analysis and the derivatization conditions were optimized. The proposed method was validated in terms of linearity, limits of detection and repeatabilities. The method showed an excellent sensitivity (LOD≤0.05 μg/mL) and appropriate repeatabilites (RSD (n=7)≤5%)). LC-MS/MS was used as a confirmatory technique. The stability of the amines in five food simulants (distilled water, 3% acetic acid, 10% ethanol, 50% ethanol and olive oil) under the most common testing conditions (10 days at 40 °C) was also studied. Results showed that amines had an acceptable stability in aqueous simulants but in the olive oil a loss of 100% was observed for all analytes.

The use of ionizing radiation in food processing has received increased interest as a means of reducing the level of foodborne pathogens. This overview discusses the regulatory issues connected with the use of this technology in the United States. Several recent changes in the FDA's review process are discussed. These include the current policy that utilizes an expedited review process for petitions seeking approval of additives and technologies intended to reduce pathogen levels in food, and the recent USDA rule that eliminates the need for a separate rulemaking process by USDA for irradiation of meat and poultry. Recently promulgated rules and pending petitions before the FDA associated with the use of ionizing radiation for the treatment of foods are also discussed along with the current FDA labeling requirements for irradiated foods and the 1999 advanced notice of proposed rule on labeling. Another issue that is presented is the current status of the approval of packaging materials intended for food contact during irradiation treatment of foods.  相似文献

For implementation of food and feed legislation, there is a strong need for development and harmonisation of reliable, validated and if possible, robust and simple analytical methods. In addition, precise methods used for measuring the exposure of humans to certain types of food contaminants and residues (natural, man-made or produced during technological treatment) such as, e.g. mycotoxins, acrylamide, pesticides and allergens have to be available, in order to compare results derived from monitoring studies. Methods should be validated (in-house or in a collaborative trial) according to harmonised protocols and good laboratory practice must be in place in order to be compliant with internationally harmonised standards. The way in which this is implemented depends strongly on the analyte, interference within the food matrix and other requirements that need to be met. Food and feed certified reference materials, when matrix matched and containing the appropriate concentration of the certified substance, are an extremely useful tool in validation of measurements.Presented at BERM-9—Ninth International Symposium on Biological and Environmental Reference Materials, 15–19 June 2003, Berlin, Germany.  相似文献

Established and comprehensively validated methodology for the analysis of PCDDs, PCDFs and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in food, animal feed and other matrices is presented. The method achieves the analytical standards of EU protocols (2002/69/EC and 2002/70/EC) that are used to determine the compliance of food and animal feed to maximum permissible levels of chlorinated dioxins in these commodities. The methodology provides WHO–TEQ data for dioxins and PCBs as well as individual concentrations for toxic PCDD/F congeners and >50 commonly occurring PCBs. In addition, the methodology allows the simultaneous determination of individual polybrominated diphenylether (PBDE) congeners. A wide range of 13Carbon-labelled surrogates allow accurate internal standardisation, and measurements are carried out using high resolution GC coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry except for mono-, tetra, ortho-substituted PCBs where unit resolution mass spectrometry can be used instead. Evidence of internal as well as external validation through the frequent use of reference materials, and successful participation in international inter-comparison exercises over many years is presented. A large number of different food types have been analysed for dioxins and PCBs using this methodology over several years and typical congener profiles for various food matrices are discussed.  相似文献

CE microchips: an opened gate to food analysis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
CE microchips are the first generation of micrototal analysis systems (-TAS) emerging in the miniaturization scene of food analysis. CE microchips for food analysis are fabricated in both glass and polymer materials, such as PDMS and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and use simple layouts of simple and double T crosses. Nowadays, the detection route preferred is electrochemical in both, amperometry and conductivity modes, using end-channel and contactless configurations, respectively. Food applications using CE microchips are now emerging since food samples present complex matrices, the selectivity being a very important challenge because the total integration of analytical steps into microchip format is very difficult. As a consequence, the first contributions that have recently appeared in the relevant literature are based primarily on fast separations of analytes of high food significance. These protocols are combined with different strategies to achieve selectivity using a suitable nonextensive sample preparation and/or strategically choosing detection routes. Polyphenolic compounds, amino acids, preservatives, and organic and inorganic ions have been studied using CE microchips. Thus, new and exciting future expectations arise in the domain of food analysis. However, several drawbacks could easily be found and assumed within the miniaturization map.  相似文献

To address the measurement and standard needs of the food and nutrition communities, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed a suite of food-matrix Standard Reference Materials (SRMs) characterized for nutrient concentrations. These food-matrix SRMs include infant formula, baby food, and typical diet composites; meat homogenate, oyster, mussel, and fish tissues; baking chocolate; peanut butter; and spinach. Many of these materials were developed based on recommendations of the food industry to populate a nine-sectored triangle, developed by the Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC) International, in which foods are positioned based on their fat, protein, and carbohydrate contents. Value assignment of proximates, vitamins, and elements of nutritional interest in these food-matrix SRMs has been based primarily on the combination of results from measurements at NIST and from a group of collaborating laboratories involved in food measurements. Food-matrix SRMs are now available that are representative of all nine sectors of the AOAC International food-matrix triangle. Current activities are focused on the development of SRMs for dietary supplements including botanical and multivitamin/multielement materials.Presented at the CCQM Workshop on Comparability and Traceability in Food Analysis, 18–19 November 2003, BIPM, Sèvres, France.  相似文献

Biosensors for environmental pollutants and food contaminants   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
This review article provides an overview of the most recent literature on biosensors for environmental pollutants and food contaminants. Due to the large number of publications, only papers published between 2000 and January 2003 were considered. Also, while not all of the published literature could be reviewed here, over 200 references are cited to provide a good overview of research undertaken in the last two years. Older publications are covered by a number of earlier review articles. This article provides an introduction into the field including specific consideration of the application areas, describes the typical biosensor assay format used, and is subsequently structured according to the biorecognition elements used (i.e., nucleic acids, enzymes, whole cells, tissue and whole organisms, antibodies and receptors, and biomimetic materials). In addition, a section on microbiosensing systems is provided. Since only very few microbiosensors with applications in environmental and food systems have been published, enabling technology is also covered in this article.Abbreviations BOD biological oxygen demand - cfu colony forming units - DNP dinitrophenol - GFP green fluorescent protein - NASBA nucleic acid sequence-based amplification - PCR polymerase chain reaction - ppt parts per trillion - QCM quartz crystal microbalance - SPR surface plasmon resonance  相似文献

In some countries recycled materials are not allowed to come into contact with food without a protective layer such as plastic or virgin fiber. The purpose of this kind of barrier is to reduce migration of substances form beyond the barrier to the food. Two methods for studying a functional barrier are described. Both utilize migration cells in which one surface of the test specimen (for example a paper plate) is exposed to the food simulant. The first method involves the addition of indidcatsor substances to the non-food contact layer. The second method is to measure the migration of substances originally present in the layers beyond the functional barrier layer. Several kinds of barrier used in commercial papaer plates were studied and differences between them were found.  相似文献

The analysis of food components is of high importance due to food safety and security. Here the electrochemical detection of caffeine was performed on different chemically modified graphene (CMG) surfaces carrying diverse amount of defects and oxygen functionalities. The analytical performances of graphite oxide (GPO), graphene oxide (GO), and electrochemically reduced graphene oxide (ERGO) were compared for the first time for the detection of caffeine. It was found that ERGO showed the most favourable analytical parameters, such as lower oxidation potential, sensitivity, linearity and reproducibility of the response. ERGO was then used for the analysis of real samples. Caffeine levels of soluble coffee, teas and energetic drinks were measured without the need of any sample pre-treatment. Our findings are very important to gain more insight into the applicability of different graphene materials to real samples for sense-and-act analysis.  相似文献

Summary The present paper reports a rapid HPIC method for the determination of tetramethylammonium chloride in aqueous matrices which are used as food simulants in migration tests. These simulants were: bidistilled water, an aqueous solution of 3% acetic acid, an aqueous solution of 15% ethyl alcohol, a mixed aqueous solution of 3% acetic acid and 15% ethyl alcohol. The method, as developed, has been applied to the determination of unreacted tetramethylammonium chloride residues which are able to migrate from finished epoxy resins which are used as food packaging materials.Research partially supported by National Research Council of Italy, Special Project RAISA, sub-project 4, Paper No 695.  相似文献
