The effect of screened Coulomb (Yukawa) potentials on the photodetachment cross sections of the positronium negative ion is investigated by using the asymptotic form of the bound-state wave function and a plane wave form for the final-state wave function. The required normalization constant is determined from highly accurate, completely non-adiabatic wave functions for the three-particle systems. Photodetachment cross sections for the Ps? ion are calculated for different Debye shielding lengths (D) ranging from infinite (pure Coulomb) to D = 1.81.  相似文献

We have investigated the doubly excited 1,3 P e resonance states of positronium negative ion with Coulomb and screened Coulomb potentials using highly accurate correlated exponential wavefunctions. For Coulomb interaction, the stabilization and the complex-rotation methods are employed to extract resonance parameters (resonance positions and widths). We have obtained two 1 P e resonances and three 3 P e resonances below the n = 3 Ps threshold. In addition to Feshbach resonances lying below n = 3 Ps threshold, we have calculated one 3 P e shape resonances lying above the Ps (n = 2) threshold. For screened Coulomb (Yukawa) interaction, we employ the stabilization method to extract resonance parameters as functions screening parameter. The resonance energies and widths for 1,3 P e resonance states of Ps below the n = 3 Ps threshold for different screening parameters ranging from infinity (Coulomb case) to small values are reported, along with the Ps(3S) and Ps(3P) threshold energies. The screened Coulomb results for the 1,3 P e resonance states are reported for the first time in the literature.  相似文献

The recently discovered multiple series of shape resonances and near-zero-energy enhancements in photoionization cross section of hydrogen-like atomic systems with screened Coulomb (Yukawa type) interaction [Phys. Rev. A 80, 063404 (2009)] are studied in detail, in particular their evolution with the variation of the screening strength of the potential. The conditions for appearance of these multiple series of cross section features are identified and related to certain critical screening strengths of the potential. A relation between the appearance of Cooper minima and shape resonaces in the photoionizations cross section has been established. It is also shown that the s-channel of np photoionization for a fixed photoelectron energy exhibits Ramsauer-Townsend minima in the screening length variable.  相似文献

Debye screening is proven for a large class of classical Coulomb gases at low densities. Among the models treated are jellium systems (where particles interact with a fixed background charge), systems with arbitrarily dilute fractional charges, and systems where the charges are not integrally related. The interaction potentials of the corresponding sine-Gordon models may have no symmetry and can have infinitely many stationary points which are degenerate or nearly degenerate in energy.Junior Fellow, Harvard University Society of Fellows. Theoretical results presented in this paper reflect that the relativistic fine-structure due to the mass-velocity, spin-orbit and Darwin terms is sensitive to the screening strength parameter in an exponential screened Coulomb hydrogen atom, that is sometimes used to model a plasma-embedded atom. With stronger screening the fine-structure correction undergoes a gradual suppression in magnitude, but contributes to the total binding energy in an increasing proportion, indicating that the relativistic contribution to binding may become quite significant in the ultra-low binding regime under large screening strength. In the presence of screening the l-independence of the fine-structure correction as predicted by the Dirac theory progressively disappears, and a departure from the Z4-scaling law of the correction occurs along the H-isoelectronic sequence of ions - both the effects become accentuated with growing screening strength. In conjunction with screening-induced removal of the Coulomb degeneracy of non-relativistic levels, these result in a deformed multiplet structure for the screened Coulomb atom. Systematic investigation have been performed for the dynamic polarizabilities, energy levels, oscillator strengths and transition probabilities for the first few members of helium isoelectronic series He, Li+,Be2+,B3+ and C4+ embedded in the Debye plasma. The effect of plasma is described by introducing an exponential screening (the Debye screening) to the nuclear Coulomb potential. Systematic trend is observed for all the properties under study with respect to increased screening. The ionization potential decreases with an increased screening and the number of bound excited states supported by the Debye screened potential is finite.  相似文献

The electron-screening acceleration of laboratory fusion reactions at astrophysical energies is an unsolved problem of great importance to astrophysics. That effect is modeled here by considering the fusion of hydrogen-like atoms whose electron probability density is used in Poisson's equation in order to derive the corresponding screened Coulomb potential energy. That way atomic excitations and deformations of the fusing atoms can be taken into account. Those potentials are then treated semiclassically in order to obtain the screening (accelerating) factor of the reaction. By means of the proposed model the effect of a superstrong magnetic field on laboratory hydrogen fusion reactions is investigated here for the first time showing that, despite the considerable increase in the cross-section of the dd reaction, the pp reaction is still too slow to justify experimentation. The proposed model is finally applied on the H2 d, pH3 fusion reaction describing satisfactorily the experimental data although some ambiguity remains regarding the molecular nature of the deuteron target. Notably, the present method gives a sufficiently high screening energy for hydrogen fusion reactions so that the take-away energy of the spectator nucleus can also be taken into account. In this paper, we derive an analytical expression for the screened Coulomb potential between charge carriers in quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) semiconductor structures. As an application, this potential has been used to investigate the screening effect on the binding energy of a neutral donor (D0D0) in quantum wires (QWRs). It is found that the screening effect decreases the neutral donor binding energy, and the screening effects are more obvious in wide QWRs than that in narrow ones. Dependence of screening length on temperature and carrier concentration has also been discussed.  相似文献

A Rydberg atom embedded in a plasma can experience penetration by slowly moving electrons within its volume. The original pure Coulomb potential must now be replaced by a screened Coulomb potential which contains either a screening length Rs or a screening factor A = Rs -1 . For any given discrete energy level, there is a Critical Screening Factor (CSF) Ac beyond which the energy level disappears (by merging into the continuum). Analytical results are obtained for the classical dependence of the energy on the screening factor, for the CSF, and for the critical radius of the electron orbit for Circular Rydberg States (CRS) in this screened Rydberg atom. The results are derived for any general form of the screened Coulomb potential and are applied to the particular case of the Debye potential. We also show that CRS can temporarily exist above the ionization threshold and are therefore the classical counterparts of quantal discrete states embedded into continuum. The results are significant not only to Rydberg plasmas, but also to fusion plasmas, where Rydberg states of multi-charged hydrogen-like ions result from charge exchange with hydrogen or deuterium atoms, as well as to dusty/complex plasmas.  相似文献

The positronium negative ion (Ps ) in exponential cosine-screened Coulomb potentials (ECSCP) has been theoretically investigated. Using highly correlated wave functions with 525 terms we report binding energies, annihilation rates and several other parameters for various values of the screening parameter. Our reported results for the unscreened case are in nice agreement with some of the most accurate results in the literature. Further we make a comparative study of the properties of Ps in ECSCP with the corresponding properties in screened Coulomb potential (SCP). To the best of our knowledge, such a study on Ps in ECSCP is carried out for the first time in the literature.  相似文献

We have investigated the doubly excited 1 D e resonance states of Ps interacting with pure Coulomb and screened Coulomb (Yukawa) potentials employing highly correlated wavefunctions. For pure Coulomb interaction, in the framework of stabilization method and complex coordinate rotation method we have obtained two resonances below the n = 2 threshold of the Ps atom. For screened Coulomb interaction, we employ the stabilization method to extract resonance parameters. Resonance energies and widths for the 1 D e resonance states of Ps for different screening parameter ranging from infinity (pure Coulomb case) to a small value are also reported.  相似文献

A scaling law is developed which expresses the eigenvalues of the Debye-Hückel potential in terms of a single parameter. A semi-classical quantization is shown to give an accurate approximation to the eigenvalues and it is used to obtain simple procedures for the calculation of the critical screening lengths and the numbers of discrete quantum states in any exponentially screened Coulomb potential.  相似文献

Many-body dynamics is used to study the (quasi-)steady state of a classical Coulomb plasma. The shortest relaxation time in such a plasma, for both the Debye screening and the thermodynamic properties, is the electron transit time over the average distance between ions. The steady-state energy of the Coulomb interaction of the particles and the steady-state potential near a fixed charge can be described well by the Debye-Hückel theory, even if there is less than a single particle in a Debye sphere, on the average. Distributions of instantaneous values of the microfields in the plasma are derived. The results calculated for the electron turning distance are compared with the results of the quasibinary theory. An attempt is made to link the anomalously long lifetime of the plasma of ball lightning to a retardation of the recombination of a classical Coulomb plasma in the absence of a stochastic external agent.Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 2, pp. 10–23, February, 1992.  相似文献

We present an approximation to the quantum Coulomb plasma at equilibrium which captures the power-law violations of Debye screening which have been reported in recent papers. The objectives are (1) to produce a simpler model which we will study in forthcoming papers, and (2) to develop a strategy by which the absence of screening can be proven for the low-density quantum Coulomb plasma itself.  相似文献

A study is conducted on positronium (Ps) formation in positron-helium collisions under the effect of a Coulomb screening, e+ + He(1s 2) ?? Ps(100) + He+(100), using the second-order distorted-wave approximation (DWA) and taking into consideration the screened dipole polarisation potential at low and intermediate incident positron energies in the range, 6 ? 500 eV. The theoretical model for the scattering calculation is fairly accurate and predicts a number of interesting features in the total and differential cross sections for the screening parameter, ?? = 0.0?0.4. The existence of resonances in the S-, P-, D- and F-partial waves has been reported in this work. Surface plots of the total and differential cross sections have also been presented to illustrate the interesting nature of the Ps formation in this scattering process.  相似文献

The classical electron-ion Coulomb Bremsstrahlung process is investigated in nonideal plasmas. An effective pseudopotential model taking into account the plasma screening and collective effects is applied to describe the electron-ion interaction potential in a classical nonideal plasma. The classical straight-line trajectory method is applied to the motion of the projectile electron in order to visualize the variation of the differential Bremsstrahlung radiation cross-section (DBRCS) as a function of the scaled impact parameter, nonideal plasma parameter, projectile energy, photon energy, and Debye length. The results show that the DBRCS in ideal plasmas described by the Debye-Hückel potential is always greater than that in nonideal plasmas, i.e., the collective effects reduce the DBRCS for both the soft and hard photon cases. For large impact parameters, the DBRCS for the soft photon case is found to be always greater than that for the hard photon case. Received 1st December 1999  相似文献

Non-relativistic scattering phase shifts, bound state energies, and wave function normalization factors for a screened Coulomb potential of the Hulthén type are presented in the form of relatively simple analytic expressions. These formulae have been obtained by a suitable renormalization procedure applied to the quantities derived from an approximate Schrödinger equation which contains the exact Hulthén potential together with an approximate angular momentum term. When the screening exponent vanishes, our formulae reduce to the exact Coulomb expressions. The interrelation between our formulae and Pratt's ‘analytic perturbation theory for screened Coulomb potentials’ is discussed.  相似文献
