Temperature- and pH-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)?Cco-acrylic acid (pNIPAm-co-AAc) microgels were deposited on glass substrates coated with polyelectrolyte multilayers composed of the polycation poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and the polyanion poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS). The microgel density and structure of the resultant films were investigated as a function of: (1) the number of PAH/PSS layers (layer thickness); (2) the charge on the outer layer of the polyelectrolyte multilayer film; and (3) the pH of microgel deposition solution. The resultant films were studied by differential interference contrast optical microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the coverage of the microgels on the surface was a complex function of the pH of the deposition solution, the charge on the outer layer of the polyelectrolyte thin film and the PAH/PSS layer thickness; although it appears that microgel charge plays the biggest role in determining the resultant surface coverage.  相似文献

We report the synthesis of ternary polymer particle material systems composed of (a) a spherical colloidal particle core, coated with (b) a polyelectrolyte intermediate shell, and followed by (c) a grafted polymer brush prepared by surface-initiated polymerization as the outer shell. The layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition process was utilized to create a functional intermediate shell of poly(diallyl-dimethylammonium chloride)/poly(acrylic acid) multilayers on the colloid template with the final layer containing an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) macroinitiator polyelectrolyte. The intermediate core-shell architecture was analyzed with FT-IR, electrophoretic mobililty (zeta-potential) measurements, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The particles were then utilized as macroinitiators for the surface-initiated ATRP grafting process for poly(methyl methacrylate) polymer brush. The polymer grafting was confirmed with thermo gravimetric analysis, FT-IR, and TEM. The polymer brush formed the outermost shell for a ternary colloidal particle system. By combining the LbL and surface-initiated ATRP methods to produce controllable multidomain core-shell architectures, interesting functional properties should be obtainable based on independent polyelectrolyte and polymer brush behavior.  相似文献

The coupling of lipid molecules to polymer components in a planar biomimetic model membrane made of a lipid bilayer (dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine) supported by polyelectrolyte multilayers is studied. The polyelectrolyte support was prepared by layer-by-layer deposition of positively charged poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and negatively charged poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS). Two polymer sample terminations were considered: positively charged (PAH-terminated) and negatively charged (PSS-terminated). Neutron reflectometry studies showed that, whereas positively charged samples did not favor the deposition of lipid, negatively charged samples allowed the deposition of a lipid bilayer with a thickness of approximately 5 nm. In the latter case, formation of polyelectrolyte layers after the deposition of the lipid layer was also possible.  相似文献

Ellipsoidal trilayer hematite/silica/poly(divinylbenzene) hybrid particles were prepared by distillation precipitation polymerization of divinyl benzene (DVB) in the presence of hematite/3-(methacryloxy)propyl trimethoxysilane (MPS)-modified silica (SiO(2)) core-shell particles as the seeds. The polymerization of DVB was performed in neat acetonitrile with 2,2'-azobisisobtyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator to coat the hematite/MPS-modified SiO(2) seeds through the capture of DVB oligomer radicals with the aid of a vinyl group on the surface of the hematite/MPS-modified silica core-shell particles in the absence of any stabilizer or surfactant. The other hematite/silica/polymer trilayer hybrid particles with different polarity and various functionality, such as hematite/silica/poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and hematite/silica/poly(divinyl benzene- co-methacrylic acid) could also be prepared by this procedure. Hematite/silica/poly( N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide) composite particles could be prepared with unmodified hematite/silica particles as seeds. Hollow poly(divinyl benzene) (PDVB) and poly( N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide) (PMBAAm) ellipsoids with movable hematite cores were subsequently developed after the selective etching of the silica midlayer in diluted hydrofluoric acid from hematite/silica/PDVB and hematite/silica/PMBAAm trilayer hybrids. Hollow PDVB ellipsoids were obtained by removal of the silica midlayer and hematite core of the trilayer hybrids with concentrated HF solution. The resultant trilayer hybrid particles and hollow polymer ellipsoids were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer.

Nearly monodispersed silica-poly(methacrylic acid) (SiO 2-PMAA) core-shell microspheres were synthesized by distillation-precipitation polymerization from 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propylmethacrylate-silica (SiO 2-MPS) particle templates. SiO 2-PMAA-SiO 2 trilayer hybrid microspheres were subsequently prepared by coating of an outer layer of SiO 2 on the SiO 2-PMAA core-shell microspheres in a sol-gel process. pH-Responsive PMAA hollow microspheres with flexible (deformable) shells were obtained after selective removal of the inorganic SiO 2 core from the SiO 2-PMAA core-shell microspheres by HF etching. The pH-responsive properties of the PMAA hollow microspheres were investigated by dynamic laser scattering (DLS). On the other hand, concentric and rigid hollow silica microspheres were prepared by selective removal of the PMAA interlayer from the SiO 2-PMAA-SiO 2 trilayer hybrid microspheres during calcination. The hybrid composite microspheres, pH-sensitive hollow microspheres, and concentric hollow silica microspheres were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis.  相似文献

The organic/inorganic hybrid particles PSt/P(St-CPEM)(θ)-g-PDMAEMA/SiO(2) were prepared by catalytic hydrolysis and subsequent polycondensation of tetraethoxysilane in the poly[2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDMAEMA) layers grafted on the PSt/P(St-CPEM)(θ) core/shell heterocoagulates. The micron-sized PSt core and the submicron-sized P(St-CPEM) shell particles bearing ATRP initiating groups were synthesized by dispersion polymerization of styrene (St) and emulsifier-free emulsion polymerization of St with 2-chloropropionyloxyethyl methacrylate (CPEM), respectively. The raspberry-shaped PSt/P(St-CPEM)(θ) heterocoagulates with a controlled surface coverage (θ=0.51, 0.81) were prepared by hydrophobic coagulation between the core and the shell particles in an aqueous NaCl solution near the T(g) of P(St-CPEM). Surface modification of heterocoagulates was carried out by ATRP of DMAEMA from the shell particles adsorbed on the core particles. Silica deposition was performed by simply adding tetraethoxysilane to a water/methanol dispersion of PSt/P(St-CPEM)(θ)-g-PDMAEMA. The SEM and TGA revealed that the resulting PSt/P(St-CPEM)(θ)-g-PDMAEMA/SiO(2) composites maintain a raspberry-like morphology after deposition of silica onto the PDMAEMA layer grafted on heterocoagulates. The micron-sized, raspberry-shaped or the submicron-sized, hole-structured silica hollow particles were obtained selectively by thermal decomposition of the PSt/P(St-CPEM)(θ)-g-PDMAEMA/SiO(2). The oriented particle array was fabricated by dropping anisotropically perforated silica particles onto a glass substrate settled at the bottom of a bottle filled with chloroform.  相似文献

To convert the hydrophilic cellulose fiber into hydrophobic, multilayers composed of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) and lignosulfonate (LS) were constructed on cellulose fiber surface using layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly technique. The presence of CPAM/LS multilayers were validated by zeta potential, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that potential of fiber surface inversed after deposition of each layer, the contents of characteristic elements (i.e. S and N) of CPAM/LS multilayers increased with increasing bilayer number, furthermore, the calculated surface LS content increased linearly as a function of bilayers. AFM phase images indicated that the cellulose microfibrils on fiber surface were gradually covered by LS granules, resulting in an increase in fiber surface roughness as self-assembly proceeded. The wetting properties of modified cellulose fibers were detected by dynamic contact angle measurement. The results showed that the initial water contact angle gradually increased and the attenuation rate of the contact angle gradually decreased with the number of bilayers, suggesting that the controllable hydrophobicity of cellulose fiber can be achieved depending on the number of bilayers. It also showed that the polyelectrolyte presented in the outermost layer significantly influenced the wetting properties of cellulose fibers, and a higher hydrophobicity was observed when LS was in the outermost layer. Moreover, tensile strength test was performed on the handsheet prepared from LBL modified fibers to evaluate the effect of CPAM/LS multilayers on strength property of cellulose fiber networks. The tensile index of handsheet prepared from fibers modified with a (CPAM/LS)5 multilayer increased by 12.4% compared with that of handsheet prepared from original fibers. The print density of handsheet increased with the number of bilayers, suggesting that printability of the handsheet was improved by constructing CPAM/LS multilayers on cellulose fiber surface. This strategy will have a positive impact and potential application value in printing process control of cellulose fiber-based products.  相似文献

The nanoparticles composed of polystyrene core and poly[2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PDEA) hairy shell were used as colloidal templates for in situ silica mineralization, allowing the well-controlled synthesis of hybrid silica core–shell nanoparticles with raspberry-like morphology and hollow silica nanoparticles by subsequent calcination. Silica deposition was performed by simply stirring a mixture of the polymeric core–shell particles in isopropanol, tetramethyl orthosilicate (TMOS) and water at 25 °C for 2.5 h. No experimental evidence was found for nontemplated silica formation, which indicated that silica deposition occurred exclusively in the PDEA shell and formed PDEA–silica hybrid shell. The resulting hybrid silica core–shell particles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetry, aqueous electrophoresis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. TEM studies indicated that the hybrid particles have well-defined core–shell structure with raspberry morphology after silica deposition. We found that the surface nanostructure of hybrid nanoparticles and the composition distribution of PDEA–silica hybrid shell could be well controlled by adjusting the silicification conditions. These new hybrid core–shell nanoparticles and hollow silica nanoparticles would have potential applications for high-performance coatings, encapsulation and delivery of active organic molecules.  相似文献

Summary: Carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were assembled with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) onto decomposable colloidal particles, to subsequently yield hollow microcapsules after core removal. A sandwich structure with MWNTs layer embedded in poly(styrenesulfonate sodium salt) (PSS)/PAH multilayers was designed and constructed on melamine formaldehyde particles. Transmission electron microscopy and confocal microscopy revealed the hollow structure and good dispersity of the resultant microcapsules. The MWNTs were uniformly distributed on the capsule walls.

TEM images of (PSS/PAH)5/MWNT/(PAH/PSS)2 microcapsules templated on MF microparticles, after core decomposition (main). They still preserve their continuous and intact structure with no signs of rupture. Inset: magnified surface.  相似文献

Hollow poly(divinylbenzene-co-methacrylic acid) (P(DVB-co-MAA)) microspheres were prepared by the selective dissolution of the non-crosslinked poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) mid-layer in ethanol from the corresponding silica/PMAA/P(DVB-co-MAA) tri-layer hybrid microspheres, which were afforded by a three-stage reaction. Silica/PMAA core-shell hybrid microspheres were prepared by the second-stage distillation polymerization of methacrylic acid (MAA) via the capture of the oligomers and monomers with the aid of the vinyl groups on the surface of 3-(methacryloxy)propyl trimethoxysilane (MPS)-modified silica core, which was prepared by the Stöber hydrolysis as the first stage reaction. The tri-layer hybrid microspheres were synthesized by the third-stage distillation precipitation copolymerization of functional MAA monomer and divinylbenzene (DVB) crosslinker in presence of silica/PMAA particles as seeds, in which the efficient hydrogen-bonding interaction between the carboxylic acid groups played as a driving force for the construction of monodisperse hybrid microspheres with tri-layer structure. The morphology and the structure of silica core, silica/PMAA core-shell particles, the tri-layer hybrid microspheres and the corresponding hollow polymer microspheres with movable silica cores were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).  相似文献

<正>The triple-shelled hollow spheres with optical properties were prepared via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. After removal the core templates of the poly(styrene),the hollow silica spheres were obtained. The coating process of poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) on the hollow silica spheres surface via surface RAFT polymerization was performed subsequently. The polymers coated on the hollow spheres surfaces were end-functionalized by trithiocarbonate, and they were used as RAFT agent to proceed the chain extension polymerization using Tb complex as monomer. The samples were characterized by FT-IR,SEM and luminescence spectroscopy respectively. The results indicated that the triple-shelled hollow spheres had been prepared successfully and the average diameter of the hollow core was about 1μm.  相似文献

This paper compares the influence of the molecular weight of polylelectrolytes forming polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) on wood fibers on adhesion and paper strength. Sheets were made from fibers treated with poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH)/poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) of molecular mass 70,000 and 240,000, respectively, and of poly(dimethyldiallylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC)/poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) of molecular mass 30,000 and 80,000, respectively. The results were compared to what has recently been reported for PEM formation on fibers using a low-molecular-mass combination of PAH and PAA and a high-molecular-mass combination of PDADMAC/PSS. There was a less significant improvement in the case of the low-molecular-mass PDADMAC/PSS and the high-molecular-mass PAH/PAA. The adsorbed amounts of PAH and PDADMAC were also determined, showing a lower adsorbed amount of the low-molecular-mass PAH than of the high-molecular-mass PDADMAC. The amount of low-molecular-mass PDADMAC was similar to that found for high-molecular-mass PDADMAC/PSS. Individual fibers were partly treated and studied, showing a less significant decrease in wettability with low-molecular-mass PDADMAC/PSS than with the high-molecular-mass combination. The effect of the molecular weight on the adhesion was discussed in terms of the structure and wettability of the PEMs.  相似文献

The temperature-dependent behavior of hollow polyelectrolyte multilayer capsules consisting of poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDADMAC) and poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) with a different number of layers was investigated in aqueous media using confocal laser scanning microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and elemental analysis. Capsules with an even number of layers exhibited a pronounced shrinking at elevated temperature resulting in a transition to a dense sphere, whereas capsules with an odd number of layers swelled during heating to 5-fold of their initial size followed by their rupture. This effect increases for odd layer numbers and decreases for even layer numbers with increasing layer number. According to elemental analysis, an excess of PDADMAC monomers exists within the multilayers of capsules with an odd number of layers leading to a repulsion between the positive charges, whereas shells with an even number of layers have a balanced ratio between the oppositely charged polyions, so that the temperature-dependent behavior is controlled by the different interactions between polyelectrolytes and the bulk water. At a certain temperature, the polyelectrolyte material softens thus facilitating any rearrangement. Besides incubation temperature, the duration of heating has an influence on the restructuring of the multilayers.  相似文献

A strategy to incorporate and release anti-cancer drugs of daunorubicin (DNR) and doxorubicin (DOX) in preformed microcapsules is introduced, which is based on charge interaction mechanism. Oppositely charged poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS) were assembled onto PSS doped-CaCO3 colloidal particles in a layer-by-layer manner to yield core-shell particles. After removal of the carbonate cores, hollow microcapsules with entrapped PSS were fabricated, which showed spontaneous loading ability of positively charged DNR and DOX. The drug loading was confirmed quantitatively by observations under confocal laser scanning microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and scanning force microscopy. Quantification of the drug loading was performed under different conditions, revealing that a larger amount of drugs could be incorporated at higher drug feeding concentrations and higher salt concentrations. However, putting additional polyelectrolyte layers on the microcapsules after core removal resulted in weaker drug loading efficiency. The drug release behaviors from the microcapsules with different layer numbers were studied too, revealing a diffusion controlled release mechanism at the initial stage (4 h).  相似文献

Exfoliated graphene particles stabilised by the cationic polyelectrolyte polyethyleneimine (PEI) were used in conjunction with an anionic polyelectrolyte, poly(acrylic acid), to construct multilayers using the layer-by-layer technique on a silica substrate. In the first adsorption step, the surface excess of the cationic graphene was dependent on the overall charge on the nanoparticle which in turn can be tuned through modifying solution pH as PEI has weakly ionisable charged amine groups. The adsorbed amount onto the silica surface increased as the solution pH increased. Subsequently, a layer of PAA was adsorbed on top of the cationic graphene through electrostatic interaction. The multilayer could be assembled through this alternate deposition, with the influence of solution conditions investigated. The pH of the adsorbing solutions was the chief determinant of the overall adsorbed amounts, with more mass added at the elevated pH of 9 in comparison with pH 4. Atomic force microscopy confirmed that the graphene particles were adsorbed to the silica interface and that the surface coverage of the disc-like nanoparticles was complete after the deposition of five graphene-polyelectrolyte bi-layers. Furthermore, the graphene nanoparticles themselves could be modified through the consecutive addition of the oppositely charged polymers. A multilayered assembly of negatively charged graphene sheets modified with a bi-layer of PEI and PAA was also deposited on a silica surface with adsorbed PEI.  相似文献

Hollow structures show both light scattering and light trapping, which makes them promising for dye‐sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. In this work, nanoparticulate hollow TiO2 fibers are prepared by layer‐by‐layer (LbL) self‐assembly deposition of TiO2 nanoparticles on natural cellulose fibers as template, followed by thermal removal of the template. The effect of LbL parameters such as the type and molecular weight of polyelectrolyte, number of dip cycles, and the TiO2 dispersion (amorphous or crystalline sol) are investigated. LbL deposition with weak polyelectrolytes (polyethylenimine, PEI) gives greater nanoparticle deposition yield compared to strong polyelectrolytes (poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride), PDDA). Decreasing the molecular weight of the polyelectrolyte results in more deposition of nanoparticles in each dip cycle with narrower pore size distribution. Fibers prepared by the deposition of crystalline TiO2 nanoparticles show higher surface area and higher pore volume than amorphous nanoparticles. Scattering coefficients and backscattering properties of fibers are investigated and compared with those of commercial P25 nanoparticles. Composite P25–fiber films are electrophoretically deposited and employed as the photoanode in DSSC. Photoelectrochemical measurements showed an increase of around 50 % in conversion efficiency. By employing the intensity‐modulated photovoltage and photocurrent spectroscopy methods, it is shown that the performance improvement due to addition of fibers is mostly due to the increase in light‐harvesting efficiency. The high surface area due to the nanoparticulate structure and strong light harvesting due to the hollow structure make these fibers promising scatterers in DSSCs.  相似文献

A series of hierarchically mesostructured silica nanoparticles (MSNs) less than 100 nm in size were fabricated by means of a one-step synthesis using dodecanethiol (C(12)-SH) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the dual template, and trimethylbenzene (TMB) as the swelling agent. Silica nanoparticles with varied morphologies and structures, including mesoporous silica nanoparticles with tunable pore size, mesoporous silica nanoparticles with a thin solid shell, hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles with tunable cavity size, and hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles with a thin solid shell, were obtained by regulating the TMB/CTAB molar ratio and the stirring rate with the assistance of C(12)-SH. Silica particulate coatings were successfully fabricated by using MSNs with varied morphologies and structures as building block through layer-by-layer dip-coating on glass substrates. The thickness and roughness of the silica particulate coatings could be tailored by regulating the deposition cycles of nanoparticles. The silica particulate coatings composed of hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles with a thin shell (S2) increased the maximum transmittance of slide glass from 90 to 96%, whereas they reduced its minimum reflection from 8 to 2% at the optimized wavelength region that could be adjusted from visible to near-IR with a growing number of deposition cycles. The coatings also exhibited excellent superhydrophilic and antifogging properties. These mesostructured silica nanoparticles are also expected to serve as ideal scaffolds for biological, medical, and catalytic applications.  相似文献

An amorphous solid (glass) may crystallize faster at the surface than through the bulk, making surface crystallization a mechanism of failure for amorphous pharmaceuticals and other materials. An ultrathin coating of gold or polyelectrolytes inhibited the surface crystallization of amorphous indomethacin (IMC), an anti-inflammatory drug and model organic glass. The gold coating (10 nm) was deposited by sputtering, and the polyelectrolyte coating (3-20 nm) was deposited by an electrostatic layer-by-layer assembly of cationic poly(dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride) (PDDA) and anionic sodium poly(styrenesulfonate) (PSS) in aqueous solution. The coating also inhibited the growth of existing crystals. The inhibition was strong even with one layer of PDDA. The polyelectrolyte coating still permitted fast dissolution of amorphous IMC and improved its wetting and flow. The finding supports the view that the surface crystallization of amorphous IMC is enabled by the mobility of a thin layer of surface molecules, and this mobility can be suppressed by a coating of only a few nanometers. This technique may be used to stabilize amorphous drugs prone to surface crystallization, with the aqueous coating process especially suitable for drugs of low aqueous solubility.  相似文献

Silica nanoparticles are used in various applications including catalysts, paints and coatings. To reach an optimal performance via stability and functionality, in most cases, the surface properties of the particles are altered using complex procedures. Here we describe a simple method for surface modification of silica nanoparticles (SNP) using sequential adsorption of oppositely charged components. First, the SNPs were made cationic by adsorption of a cationic polyelectrolyte. Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and polyethyleneimine (PEI) were chosen as polycations to investigate the difference between a linear and a branched polyelectrolyte. Next, the dispersion of cationic SNPs was combined with an anionic alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) emulsion. Using this approach cationic, hydrophobic silica particle dispersions were produced. Dynamic light scattering, contact angle measurements and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used for analyzing the particle and coating layer properties. The chosen polyelectrolyte affected the structure of the dispersion. The layer build-up was studied in detail using a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D). The adsorption and layer properties of the cationic polyelectrolytes adsorbed on silica as well as the affinity of AKD to this layer were explored. The application possibilities of the modified particle dispersions were demonstrated by preparing paper and silica surfaces with tailored properties, such as elevated surface hydrophobicity, using an ultrathin coating layer.  相似文献
