We carry out the numerical simulations of femtosecond laser propagation with TEMoo mode, TEM10 mode and a beam combining both the modes in fused silica. It is found that the transverse size of plasma zones induced by laser pulses with the TEM10 mode is smaller than that induced by the TEM00 mode, while the longitudinal size is almost the same, and the saturated plasma density is higher. The transverse size, the longitudinal size and the ratio of the longitudinal to transverse size, for the beam combining both the modes, all could be reduced at the same time in comparison with the TEM00 mode under the same focusing conditions.  相似文献

The cross-focusing of two co-axial transverse modes of a laser beam viz. TEM00 and TEM01 modes of the same frequency in a non-linear dielectric has been studied. When the TEM00 mode is stronger than the TEM01 mode, both modes focus on the axis. In the opposite case, defocusing occurs at the axis and energy concentrates in a ring.  相似文献

Frequency splitting phenomenon of dual transverse modes in a Nd:YAG laser   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We observed frequency splitting phenomenon of dual transverse modes (TEM00q and TEM01q) in a Nd:YAG microchip standing wave laser utilizing intracavity stress birefringence effects. Four resonance frequencies (ν00qe, ν00qo, ν01qe, and ν01qo, respectively) were produced and tuned by changing the diametral compression force applied on the laser crystal. The transverse mode frequency spacing for the same longitudinal mode number (Δνtrans) was 1.16 GHz, and the magnitude of frequency splitting (Δν) ranged from 0 MHz to 1.16 GHz. Based on this phenomenon, a four-mode differential standing wave laser, whose signal characteristics were a little like those of a four-mode differential travelling wave laser gyro however with a much larger frequency splitting range, was produced. The theoretical analysis is in good agreement with the experimental results. This phenomenon not only can be used to make lasers with two or more frequency differences, but also can be used to make high-resolution self-sensing laser sensors (e.g. laser force sensors and laser accelerometers).  相似文献

An internal mirror green HeNe (GRENE) laser at 543.5 nm has been frequency stabilized to I2-Doppler free absorption signals with a frequency stability of few parts in 1010. The saturated absorption signals were detected using doubly-differential saturated absorption which eliminates the Doppler background and allows first-derivative locking methods. Two absorption lines R(12)26-0 and R(106)28-0 of 127I2 were investigated and the hyperfine structure was resolved. Diffraction losses are estimated for TEM00, TEM01, and TEM10 modes which can be generated in complex resonators. Dependences of the output power of the laser operating in the regime of transverse oscillation suppression on the transmission of the mirror are obtained. Optimal relationships between the field stop aperture area and the optical beam cross section are determined as functions of the gain of the active medium.  相似文献

The influence of the modal composition (transverse modes of a single longitudinal mode) of the laser radiation on the oscillation dynamics of a CO2-laser with a saturable absorber in the cavity is investigated. Passive Q-switching in initiation of the fundamental mode TEM00 and the modes of the first family TEM01 and TEM10 is considered. It is established that in the case of multimode oscillations sequences of single pulses with an irregular change in their amplitude can be observed. The multimode oscillations obtained are compared with similar single-mode oscillations, and their special features and differences are discussed. In the present paper, we are dealing with the thermal fields for laser–periodic multilayer structures interaction. Our point of view is originally that we consider any order transverse laser beams, like heating sources. We consider that the laser beam acts in IR (Nd:YAG or CO2 laser beam) and it is in one transverse mode or in only a few decoupled modes. In order to solve this problem, we will use the Green function method. Specific results are presented for a laser beam (Nd:YAG laser) operating in the mode TEM01 and a two-layer structure.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the simultaneous self-mode-locking of TEM0,0 and TEM1,0 modes can be achieved in a standard end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser. With this simultaneous self-mode-locking, the transverse beat frequency can be accurately measured as a function of the absorbed power. We employ the measured beat frequency and the cavity theory to precisely determine the effective focal length of the thermal lens in the gain medium.  相似文献

Amplitude modulation of the laser beam in a TEM mn mode by means of a mechanical chopper is investigated on the basis of the chopping model represented by a moving system of infinitely long, parallel slots and mark spaces. The cases of rectangular and axial symmetry of the laser beam are both treated. The explicit expressions for the waveform of the modulated normalized transmitted laser power are deduced and their consequences investigated. It is found that in the case of rectangular symmetry, unlike the case of axial symmetry, the TEM mn modes give, for a constant value of the mode numbern and for any value ofm, the same time dependence of the amplitude modulated laser power. The notion of the equivalent modulation widths is introduced and conditions for the efficient amplitude modulation are found.  相似文献

We consider the spectral evolution of transverse modes in free electron lasers. While the gain maxima of the various transverse modes occur at different frequencies, coupling between the modes via the electron beam causes the modes to shift frequency such that the final laser frequency differs from what one would expect if only the TEM00 mode were present. This can strongly effect the turn-on behavior in lasers with short electron pulses.  相似文献

The hyperfine structure of iodine-127 at 612 nm and 640 nm is observed by saturated absorption in a gas cell placed within a He-Ne laser cavity modified to operate at these wavelengths. At 612 nm, all the 21 components of the strong R 47 9-2 line lie within the laser gain profile, and the resulting saturated absorption peaks have a contrast of 10% at a gas pressure of 3 Pa.  相似文献

Diffraction of symmetrical Laguerre-Gauss TEMp0 beams incident on an opaque disk known as a stop is considered. The near- and far-field patterns are studied. Thanks to zero-field occluding, conversion from TEM10 beam to dark hollow beam can be achieved with better efficiency than from a TEM00 beam. It is shown that the fundamental mode of a laser cavity including a diaphragm and a stop can be TEM00- or TEM10-like in shape depending on their size. This result is interpreted from the new divergence hierarchy, which characterises the diffracted TEMp0 beams emerging from the stop.  相似文献

We present a compact efficient scheme for generation of high-order Laguerre–Gaussian TEM p,0 modes in a diode-pumped actively Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser. The resonator is composed of two plane mirrors with an intracavity concave lens to expand the cavity mode size for generating a high-power Laguerre–Gaussian TEM5,0 mode. We further confirm that the TEM5,0 mode is noticeably superior to the TEM0,0 mode in the processes of second and third harmonic generations.  相似文献

We have developed a novel, compact-mode selective annular-beam generator that employs a laser-diode (LD)-pumped, passively locked power build-up cavity (PBC). The PBC functions as a flexible and compact light source that is capable of producing TEM0n high-order Hermite-Gaussian (HG) beams. The generated HG beams can then be converted to LG modes, particularly to annular-beams, using two cylindrical lenses. The system was theoretically studied and a mode-matching condition was derived. The tailoring position of the active semiconductor laser medium relative to the external cavity of the PBC enabled the production of single high-order HG modes. The optimum position was calculated by model calculations of the mode-coupling efficiency. The desired TEM0n modes of HG beams were generated by translating the axial position of the external cavity of the PBC in increments of ∼100 μm relative to the LD emission surface. High quality TEM01 to TEM015 of the HG beams and their conversion to the desired LG modes having powers of the order of 1 mW was successfully demonstrated. A combination of optical feedback self-locking of a continuous-wave distributed feedback diode laser to a V-shaped high finesse cavity, laser phase modulation at a frequency equal to the free spectral range of the V-cavity and detection of the transmitted laser beam at this high modulation frequency is described for the possible application in cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy. In order to estimate the noise level of an absorbance baseline, the triplet of frequency modulated light, i.e. the central laser frequency and the two sidebands, were transmitted through both the V-cavity in open air and a 1.5-cm long optical cell placed behind the cavity output mirror and filled with acetylene (C2H2) at low pressure. The performance of the setup was evaluated from the measured relative intensity noise on the cavity output (normalised by the bandwidth) and the frequency modulation absorption signals induced by C2H2 absorption in the 1.5-cm cell. From these data, we estimate that the noise-equivalent absorption sensitivity of 2.1 × 10?11 cm?1 Hz?1/2—by a factor of 11.7 above the shot-noise limit—can be achieved for C2H2 absorption spectra extracted from the heterodyne beat signals recorded at the transmission maxima intensity peaks of the successive TEM00 resonances.  相似文献

In this paper the temperature profiles of heat propagation in homogeneous IR optical components during irradiation with a high power laser (e.g. CO2 laser) having different cross-section power distributions are examined. A mathematical model to calculate the temperature variation was developed, and the analytical solution for the heat equation was found. The method is based on the integral transform techniques applied to the partial differential equation of heat conduction in solids. Thermal profiles are plotted as functions of the sample dimensions and exposure time, for laser beams operating in TEM01 and TEM30 modes. Our results indicate that: (i) temperature profile has an angular dependence; (ii) high temperatures can be achieved in the sample center, even in the situations when the laser beam has zero power densities in this point; and (iii) the temperature profile depends strongly on the heat transfer coefficient.  相似文献

A compact, sealed, TEA-CO2 laser utilizing a double-discharge technique has been constructed and operated under single-mode conditions. Sealed operational lifetimes exceeding 106 pulses have been obtained by the addition of small quantities of hydrogen and CO to the initial gas mixtures. It has also been found that operation without helium is possible giving single-mode output energies of about 20 mJ/pulse at peak powers of about 150 kW. The pulse repetition frequency was 0.5 s-1. The use of an 18 cm long laser cavity allowed the oscillation of only one longitudinal mode when the frequency of the cavity was tuned closely to the CO2 line centre frequency. An iris was used to restrict transverse modes to the TEM00. Beat frequency measurements using a stable, CW CO2 laser indicate a “chirp” of about 5–6 MHz/μs in the tail of the pulse.  相似文献

We have generated TEM0,l * modes in an end-pumped microchip laser using a standard fiber-coupled diode. A rich set of dynamic behaviors, such as periodic and quasi-periodic self-modulation, chaotic pulsing and frequency locking was observed in the generated TEM0,l * modes. Experimental results confirm the theoretical predictions that the locking occurs as a subcritical bifurcation and that a region of coexisting locked and unlocked states exists.
