In this work, a powerful analytical method, called Liao’s homotopy analysis method is used to study the limit cycle of a two-dimensional nonlinear dynamical system, namely the van der Pol oscillator with delayed amplitude limiting. It is shown that the solutions are valid for a wide range of variation of the system parameters. Comparison of the obtained solutions with those achieved by numerical solutions and by other perturbation techniques shows that the utilized method is effective and convenient to solve this type of problems with the desired order of approximation.  相似文献

This paper applies bifurcation analysis to the well-known van der Pol oscillator to obtain approximations of its periodic solutions in the nearly sinusoidal regime. A frequency domain method based on harmonic balance approximations is used for small values of the bifurcation parameter. Moreover, a comparison with some other frequency domain approaches is also given. Finally, a total harmonic distortion is computed using the information provided by the frequency domain approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide a new modification of the variational iteration method (MVIM) for solving van der Pol equations. The modification couples the classical variational iteration method with He’s polynomials, where the He’s polynomials are applied to the approximate solution and the initial condition to eliminate secular terms. For the large ?, the numerical results demonstrate that the modification method get an accurate approximate period than the other presented methods.  相似文献

In this paper, the homotopy analysis method (HAM) proposed by Liao in 1992 and the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) proposed by He in 1998 are compared through an evolution equation used as the second example in a recent paper by Ganji et al. [D.D. Ganji, H. Tari, M.B. Jooybari, Variational iteration method and homotopy perturbation method for nonlinear evolution equations. Comput. Math. Appl. 54 (2007) 1018–1027]. It is found that the HPM is a special case of the HAM when =-1. However, the HPM solution is divergent for all x and t except t=0. It is also found that the solution given by the variational iteration method (VIM) is divergent too. On the other hand, using the HAM, one obtains convergent series solutions which agree well with the exact solution. This example illustrates that it is very important to investigate the convergence of approximation series. Otherwise, one might get useless results.  相似文献

In this paper, the van der Pol equation with a time delay is considered, where the time delay is regarded as a parameter. It is found that Hopf bifurcation occurs when this delay passes through a sequence of critical value. A formula for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions is given by using the normal form method and center manifold theorem.  相似文献

We develop computational methods for solving wave equation with van der Pol type nonlinear boundary conditions under the framework of weak solutions. Based on the wave reflection on the boundaries, we first solve the Riemann invariants by constructing two iteration mappings, and then show that the weak solution can be obtained by the integration of the Riemann invariants on the boundaries. If the compatible conditions are not satisfied or only hold with a low degree, a high‐order integration method is developed for the numerical solution. When the initial condition is sufficiently smooth and compatible conditions hold with a sufficient degree, we establish a sixth‐order finite difference scheme, which only needs to solve a linear system at any given time instance. In this paper, the dynamics of a system of two van der Pol equations with a finite delay are investigated. We show that there exist the stability switches and a sequence of Hopf bifurcations occur at the zero equilibrium when the delay varies. Using the theory of normal form and the center manifold theorem, the explicit expression for determining the direction of the Hopf bifurcations and the stability of the bifurcating periodic solutions are derived.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper consists in the finding of the solution for a stationary neutron transport equation that is accompanied by the homogeneous boundary conditions, using the techniques of homotopy analysis method (HAM) and a numerical integration formula. Also, algorithm presented can be used for solving the integral–differential equations in which the unknown function depends on two variables, such as a radiative transfer equation. Results of a numerical example illustrate the accuracy and computational efficiency of the new proposed method.  相似文献

In this study, a reliable approach for convergence of the homotopy analysis method when applied to nonlinear problems is discussed. First, we present an alternative framework of the method which can be used simply and effectively to handle nonlinear problems. Then, mainly, we address the sufficient condition for convergence of the method. The convergence analysis is reliable enough to estimate the maximum absolute truncated error of the homotopy series solution. The analysis is illustrated by investigating the convergence results for some nonlinear differential equations. The study highlights the power of the method.  相似文献

This paper presents three generalizations of the van der Pol equation (VDPE) using newly proposed three new generalized K-, A- and B-operators. These operators allow kernel to be arbitrary. As a result, these operators provide a greater generalization of the VDPE than the fractional integral and differential operators do. Like the original VDPE, the generalized van der Pol equations (GVDPEs) are also nonlinear equations, and in most cases, they can not be solved analytically. Numerical algorithms are presented and used to solve the GVDPEs. Results for several examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the numerical algorithms, and to examine the behavior of the GVDPEs and the limit cycles associated with them. Although the numerical algorithms have been used to solve the GVDPEs only, they can also be used to solve many other generalized oscillators and generalized differential equations. In this paper, the iteration perturbation method proposed by He [J.H. He, Non-perturbative methods for strongly nonlinear problems, Dissertation. de-Verlag im Internet GmbH, 2006; J.H. He, Limit cycle and bifurcation of nonlinear problems, Chaos Solitons Fractals 26 (2005) 827–833] is used to generate periodic solutions of van der Pol oscillator with a forcing term, forcing oscillator with quadratic type damping and van der Pol oscillator with excitation term.
