A graph with a semiregular group of automorphisms can be thought of as the derived cover arising from a voltage graph. Since its inception, the theory of voltage graphs and their derived covers has been a powerful tool used in the study of graphs with a significant degree of symmetry. We generalise this theory to graphs with a group of automorphisms that is not necessarily semiregular, and we generalise several well-known results of the classical theory of voltage graphs to this broader setting.  相似文献

On Cubic Graphs Admitting an Edge-Transitive Solvable Group   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
Using covering graph techniques, a structural result about connected cubic simple graphs admitting an edge-transitive solvable group of automorphisms is proved. This implies, among other, that every such graph can be obtained from either the 3-dipole Dip3 or the complete graph K 4, by a sequence of elementary-abelian covers. Another consequence of the main structural result is that the action of an arc-transitive solvable group on a connected cubic simple graph is at most 3-arc-transitive. As an application, a new infinite family of semisymmetric cubic graphs, arising as regular elementary abelian covering projections of K 3,3, is constructed.  相似文献

Let G be a finite group. A Cayley graph over G is a simple graph whose automorphism group has a regular subgroup isomorphic to G. A Cayley graph is called a CI-graph(Cayley isomorphism) if its isomorphic images are induced by automorphisms of G. A well-known result of Babai states that a Cayley graph Γ of G is a CI-graph if and only if all regular subgroups of Aut(Γ) isomorphic to G are conjugate in Aut(Γ). A semi-Cayley graph(also called bi-Cayley graph by some authors) over G is a simple graph whose automorphism group has a semiregular subgroup isomorphic to G with two orbits(of equal size). In this paper, we introduce the concept of SCI-graph(semi-Cayley isomorphism)and prove a Babai type theorem for semi-Cayley graphs. We prove that every semi-Cayley graph of a finite group G is an SCI-graph if and only if G is cyclic of order 3. Also, we study the isomorphism problem of a special class of semi-Cayley graphs.  相似文献

The polycirculant conjecture asserts that every vertex-transitive digraph has a semiregular automorphism: a non-trivial automorphism whose cycles all have the same length. In this paper, we investigate the existence of semiregular automorphisms of edge-transitive graphs. In particular, we show that any regular edge-transitive graph of valency three or four has a semiregular automorphism.  相似文献

A half-arc-transitive graph is a vertex- and edge- but not arc-transitive graph. Following Alspach and Parsons, a metacirculant graph is a graph admitting a transitive group generated by two automorphisms ρ and σ, where ρ is (m,n)-semiregular for some integers m≥1 and n≥2, and where σ normalizes ρ, cyclically permuting the orbits of ρ in such a way that σm has at least one fixed vertex. In a recent paper Maruši? and the author showed that each connected quartic half-arc-transitive metacirculant belongs to one (or possibly more) of four classes of such graphs, reflecting the structure of the quotient graph relative to the semiregular automorphism ρ. One of these classes coincides with the class of the so-called tightly-attached graphs, which have already been completely classified. In this paper a complete classification of the second of these classes, that is the class of quartic half-arc-transitive metacirculants for which the quotient graph relative to the semiregular automorphism ρ is a cycle with a loop at each vertex, is given.  相似文献

A graph is called hypohamiltonian if it is not hamiltonian but becomes hamiltonian if any vertex is removed. Many hypohamiltonian planar cubic graphs have been found, starting with constructions of Thomassen in 1981. However, all the examples found until now had 4‐cycles. In this note we present the first examples of hypohamiltonian planar cubic graphs with cyclic connectivity 5, and thus girth 5. We show by computer search that the smallest members of this class are three graphs with 76 vertices.  相似文献

Lifts of graph and map automorphisms can be described in terms of voltage assignments that are, in a sense, compatible with the automorphisms. We show that compatibility of ordinary voltage assignments in Abelian groups is related to orthogonality in certain -modules. For cyclic groups, compatibility turns out to be equivalent with the existence of eigenvectors of certain matrices that are naturally associated with graph automorphisms. This allows for a great simplification in characterizing compatible voltage assignments and has applications in constructions of highly symmetric graphs and maps.  相似文献

An even cycle decomposition of a graph is a partition of its edges into cycles of even length. In 2012, Markström conjectured that the line graph of every 2-connected cubic graph has an even cycle decomposition and proved this conjecture for cubic graphs with oddness at most 2. However, for 2-connected cubic graphs with oddness 2, Markström only considered these graphs with a chordless 2-factor. (A chordless 2-factor of a graph is a 2-factor consisting of only induced cycles.) In this paper, we first construct an infinite family of 2-connected cubic graphs with oddness 2 and without chordless 2-factors. We then give a complete proof of Markström’s result and further prove this conjecture for cubic graphs with oddness 4.  相似文献

We give a complete characterization of the graph products of cyclic groups admitting a Polish group topology, and show that they are all realizable as the group of automorphisms of a countable structure. In particular, we characterize the right-angled Coxeter groups (resp. Artin groups) admitting a Polish group topology. This generalizes results from [8], [9] and [4].  相似文献

Yutsis graphs are connected simple graphs which can be partitioned into two vertex-induced trees. Cubic Yutsis graphs were introduced by Jaeger as cubic dual Hamiltonian graphs, and these are our main focus.Cubic Yutsis graphs also appear in the context of the quantum theory of angular momenta, where they are used to generate summation formulae for general recoupling coefficients. Large Yutsis graphs are of interest for benchmarking algorithms which generate these formulae.In an earlier paper we showed that the decision problem of whether a given cubic graph is Yutsis is NP-complete. We also described a heuristic that was tested on graphs with up to 300,000 vertices and found Yutsis decompositions for all large Yutsis graphs very quickly.In contrast, no fast technique was known by which a significant fraction of bridgeless non-Yutsis cubic graphs could be shown to be non-Yutsis. One of the contributions of this article is to describe some structural impediments to Yutsisness. We also provide experimental evidence that almost all non-Yutsis cubic graphs can be rapidly shown to be non-Yutsis by applying a heuristic based on some of these criteria. Combined with the algorithm described in the earlier paper this gives an algorithm that, according to experimental evidence, runs efficiently on practically every large random cubic graph and can decide on whether the graph is Yutsis or not.The second contribution of this article is a set of construction techniques for non-Yutsis graphs implying, for example, the existence of 3-connected non-Yutsis cubic graphs of arbitrary girth and with few non-trivial 3-cuts.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate both the structure of graphs with branchwidth at most three, as well as algorithms to recognise such graphs. We show that a graph has branchwidth at most three if and only if it has treewidth at most three and does not contain the three-dimensional binary cube graph as a minor. A set of four graphs is shown to be the obstruction set for the class of graphs with branchwidth at most three. Moreover, we give a safe and complete set of reduction rules for the graphs with branchwidth at most three. Using this set, a linear time algorithm is given that verifies if a given graph has branchwidth at most three, and, if so, outputs a minimum width branch decomposition.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce the algebra of block-symmetric cylinders and we show that symmetric cylindrical constructions on base-graphs admitting commutative decompositions behave as generalized tensor products. We compute the characteristic polynomial of such symmetric cylindrical constructions in terms of the spectra of the base-graph and the cylinders in a general setting. This gives rise to a simultaneous generalization of some well-known results on the spectra of a variety of graph amalgams, as various graph products, graph subdivisions and generalized Petersen graph constructions. While our main result introduces a connection between spectral graph theory and commutative decompositions of graphs, we focus on commutative cyclic decompositions of complete graphs and tree-cylinders along with a subtle group labeling of trees to introduce a class of highly symmetric graphs containing the Petersen and the Coxeter graphs. Also, using techniques based on recursive polynomials we compute the characteristic polynomials of these highly symmetric graphs as an application of our main result.  相似文献

In this paper we study a graph operation which produces what we call the “vertex envelope” GV from a graph G. We apply it to plane cubic graphs and investigate the hamiltonicity of the resulting graphs, which are also cubic. To this end, we prove a result giving a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of hamiltonian cycles in the vertex envelopes of plane cubic graphs. We then use these conditions to identify graphs or classes of graphs whose vertex envelopes are either all hamiltonian or all non-hamiltonian, paying special attention to bipartite graphs. We also show that deciding if a vertex envelope is hamiltonian is NP-complete, and we provide a polynomial algorithm for deciding if a given cubic plane graph is a vertex envelope.  相似文献

All graphs are finite simple undirected and of no isolated vertices in this paper. Using the theory of coset graphs and permutation groups, it is completed that a classification of locally transitive graphs admitting a non-Abelian group with cyclic Sylow subgroups. We consider the class of the topologically locally finite (in short TLF) planar vertex-transitive graphs. We characterize these graphs by finite combinatorial objects called labeling schemes. As a result, we are able to enumerate and describe all TLF-planar vertex-transitive graphs of given degree, as well as most of their transitive groups of automorphisms. In addition,we are able to decide whether a given TLF-planar transitive graph is Cayley or not. This class contains all the one-ended planar Cayley graphs and the normal transitive tilings of the plane.  相似文献
