We present a theoretical approach for the ultrafast nonadiabatic dynamics based on the ab initio molecular dynamics carried out "on the fly" in the framework of the configuration interaction method combined with Tully's surface hopping algorithm for nonadiabatic transitions. This approach combined with our Wigner distribution approach allows us to perform accurate simulations of femtosecond pump-probe spectra in the systems where radiationless transitions among electronic states take place. In this paper we illustrate this by theoretical simulation of ultrafast processes and nonradiative relaxation in the Na(3)F cluster, involving three excited states and the ground electronic state. Furthermore, we show that our accurate simulation of the photoionization pump-probe spectrum is in full agreement with the experimental signal. Based on the nonadiabatic dynamics at high level of accuracy and taking into account all degrees of freedom, the nonradiative lifetime for the 1 (1)B(1) excited state of Na(3)F has been determined to be approximately 900 fs.  相似文献

We demonstrate control of electronic population transfer in molecules with the help of appropriately shaped femtosecond laser pulses. To this end we investigate two photosensitizer dyes in solution being prepared in the triplet ground state. Excitation within the triplet system is followed by intersystem crossing and the corresponding singlet fluorescence is monitored as a measure of population transfer in the triplet system. We record control landscapes with respect to the fluorescence intensity on both dyes by a systematic variation of laser pulse shapes combining second order and third order dispersion. In the strong-field regime we find highly structured topologies with large areas of maximum or minimum population transfer being insensitive over a certain range of applied laser intensities thus demonstrating robustness. We then compare our experimental results with simulations on generic molecular potentials by solving the time-dependent Schr?dinger equation for excitation with shaped pulses. Control landscapes with respect to population transfer confirm the general trends from experiments. An analysis of regions with maximum or minimum population transfer indicates that coherent processes are responsible for the outcome of our excitation process. The physical mechanisms of joint motion of ground and excited state wave packets or population of a vibrational eigenstate in the excited state permit us to discuss the molecular dynamics in an atom-like picture.  相似文献

Quantum control of the lifetime of a system in an excited resonance state is investigated theoretically by creating coherent superpositions of overlapping resonances. This control scheme exploits the quantum interference occurring between the overlapping resonances, which can be controlled by varying the width of the laser pulse that creates the superposition state. The scheme is applied to a realistic model of the Br(2)(B)-Ne predissociation decay dynamics through a three-dimensional wave packet method. It is shown that extensive control of the system lifetime is achievable, both enhancing and damping it remarkably. An experimental realization of the control scheme is suggested.  相似文献

The excited state dynamics of Zn2+, Fe3+, and Mn3+ meso-tetra(sulfonatophenyl) porphyrin complexes were investigated with a Z-scan technique at 532 nm using 70 ps and 120 fs single pulses and 200 ns pulse trains of a Q-switched and mode locked laser. We determined the characteristic interconversion and intersystem crossing times, quantum yields of the excited S1 state, and S1 --> Sn and T1 --> Tn transition cross-sections. The ground state cross-sections were obtained using UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, and a five-energy-level diagram was used to yield the photophysical parameters mentioned previously.  相似文献

In this Article, we show that the aromaticity of a molecule can be turned off by controlling the electron dynamics. We present a controlled switching from the aromatic ground state of benzene to two different nonaromatic states, using a laser pulse. The propagation of the molecular wave function is carried out with the time-dependent configuration interaction method. The laser pulse for switching between the ground and excited states is optimized using optimal control theory. Bond orders and Mulliken charges serve as an aromaticity criterion. The nonaromatic target states exhibit localized bonds and partial charges on the carbon atoms; these localized electrons circulate on an attosecond time scale in the ring system.  相似文献

The nonradiative decay of a π-stacked pair of adenine molecules, one of which was excited by an ultrafast laser pulse,is studied by semiclassical dynamics simulations. This simulation investigation is focused on the effect of the formation of bonded excimer in stacked adenines on the mechanism of ultrafast decay. The simulation finds that the formation of the bonded excimer significantly lowers the energy gap between the LUMO and HOMO and consequently facilitates the deactivation of the electronically excited molecule. On the other hand, the formation of the chemical bond between two stacked adenines restricts the deformation vibration of the pyrimidine of the excited molecule due to the steric effect. This slows down the formation of the coupling between the HOMO and LUMO energy levels and therefore delays the deactivation process of the excited adenine molecule to the electronic ground state.  相似文献

We have previously reported that metal ion binding could restrict the excited state rotation of a biaryl chromophore, suppressing intersystem crossing and leading to increased emission. We have now applied the restriction of excited state dynamics to suppression of the other fundamental nonradiative decay pathway, internal conversion, in biarylacetylenes. This indicates that both nonradiative decay pathways are subject to conformational control, and that this signaling pathway should be generally accessible in simple flexible fluorophores.  相似文献

To better understand the complex photophysics of the amino acid tryptophan, which is widely used as a probe of protein structure and dynamics, we have measured electronic spectra of protonated, gas-phase tryptophan solvated with a controlled number of water molecules and cooled to approximately 10 K. We observe that, even at this temperature, the bare molecule exhibits a broad electronic spectrum, implying ultrafast, nonradiative decay of the excited state. Surprisingly, the addition of two water molecules sufficiently lengthens the excited-state lifetime that we obtain a fully vibrationally resolved electronic spectrum. Quantum chemical calculations at the RI-CC2/aug-cc-pVDZ level, together with TDDFT/pw based first-principles MD simulations of the excited-state dynamics, clearly demonstrate how interactions with water destabilize the photodissociative states and increase the excited-state lifetime.  相似文献

A hybrid of a time-of-flight mass spectrometer and a time-of-flight "magnetic-bottle type" photoelectron (PE) spectrometer is used for fs pump-probe investigations of the excited state dynamics of thiophene. A resonant two-photon ionization spectrum of the onset of the excited states has been recorded with a tunable UV laser of 190 fs pulse width. With the pump laser set to the first intense transition we find by UV probe ionization first a small time shift of the maxima in the PE spectrum and then a fast decay to a low constant intensity level. The fitted time constants are 80+/-10 fs, and 25+/-10 fs, respectively. Theoretical calculations show that upon geometry relaxation the electronic state order changes and conical intersections between excited states exist. We use the vertical state order S1, S2, S3 to define the terms S1, S2, and S3 for the characterization of the electron configuration of these states. On the basis of our theoretical result we discuss the electronic state order in the UV spectra and identify in the photoelectron spectrum the origin of the first cation excited state D1. The fast excited state dynamics agrees best with a vibrational dynamics in the photo-excited S1 (80+/-10 fs) and an ultrafast decay via a conical intersection, presumably a ring opening to the S3 state (25+/-10 fs). The subsequently observed weak constant signal is taken as an indication, that in the gas phase the ring-closure to S0 is slower than 50 ps. An ultrafast equilibrium between S1 and S2 before ring opening is not supported by our data.  相似文献

We present theoretical considerations and quantitative numerical simulations of the coherent radiative excitation of chiral molecules exhibiting a double well potential in the electronic ground state (with stable enantiomers) and a harmonic oscillator potential with achiral minimum geometry in the excited electronic state following a scheme proposed in [33]. The one-dimensional short time dynamics is presented on the femtosecond time scale. We demonstrate the phenomena of quasiexponential, radiationless decay of the survival probability in the excited electronic state by simple harmonic oscillator wave packet motion, as well as coherent periodic chiral stereomutation. The differences and similarities of the excited state harmonic oscillator dynamics with two quite different ground state potentials are discussed. A designed pulse sequence allows for chemically efficient laser controlled stereomutation with high enantiomeric specificity. The results are discussed in relation to Friedrich Hund's early work on stereomutation by tunneling and in relation to our current understanding of chiral molecules including dynamical chirality and anharmonic vibrational dynamics on the femtosecond time scale and the violation of parity and other fundamental symmetries.  相似文献

Detailed simulation study is reported for the excited-state dynamics of photoisomerization of cis-tetraphenylethylene (TPE) following excitation by a femtosecond laser pulse. The technique for this investigation is semiclassical dynamics simulation, which is described briefly in the paper. Upon photoexcitation by a femtosecond laser pulse, the stretching motion of the ethylenic bond of TPE is initially excited, leading to a significant lengthening of ethylenic bond in 300 fs. Twisting motion about the ethylenic bond is activated by the energy released from the relaxation of the stretching mode. The 90 degrees twisting about the ethylenic bond from an approximately planar geometry to nearly a perpendicular conformation in the electronically excited state is completed in 600 fs. The torsional dynamics of phenyl rings which is temporally lagging behind occurs at about 5 ps. Finally, the twisted TPE reverts to the initial conformation along the twisting coordinate through nonadiabatic transitions. The simulation results provide a basis for understanding several spectroscopic observations at molecular levels, including ultrafast dynamic Stokes shift, multicomponent fluorescence, viscosity dependence of the fluorescence lifetime, and radiationless decay from electronically excited state to the ground state along the isomerization coordinate.  相似文献

In this work, we investigate the nonlinear absorption dynamics of Zn phthalocyanine in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). We used single pulse and pulse train Z-scan techniques to determine the dynamics and absorption cross-sections of singlet and triplet states at 532 nm. The excited singlet state absorption cross-section was determined to be 3.2 times higher than the ground state one, giving rise to reverse saturable absorption. We also observed that reverse saturable absorption occurs from the triplet state, after its population by intersystem crossing, whose characteristic time was determined to be 8.9 ns. The triplet state absorption cross-section determined is 2.6 times higher than the ground state one. In addition, we used the white light continuum Z-scan to evaluate the singlet excited state spectrum from 450 to 710 nm. The results show two well-defined regions, one above 600 nm, where reverse saturable absorption is predominant. Below 600 nm, we detected a strong saturable absorption. A three-energy-level diagram was used to explain the experimental results, leading to the excited state absorption cross-section determination from 450 nm up to 710 nm.  相似文献

Transition from reverse-saturable absorption to saturable absorption of the chloroaluminum phthalocyanine solution excited by a giant laser pulse is ascribed not just to the saturation of excited state absorption, but also to the outward migration of the solute molecules at the laser beam center. While the saturation of excited state absorption occurs within a single picosecond laser pulse, the beam center population decrease is sustained much longer than the pulse duration. We distinguish these two mechanisms with the Z-scan technique, utilizing picosecond pulses with pulse-to-pulse separations ranging from 0.1 to 5.0 s.  相似文献

We demonstrate that the semiclassical field-induced surface hopping (FISH) method (Mitri?et al., Phys. Rev. A: At., Mol., Opt. Phys., 2009, 79, 053416.) accurately describes the selective coherent control of electronic state populations. With the example of the strong field control in the potassium dimer using phase-coherent double pulse sequences, we present a detailed comparison between FISH simulations and exact quantum dynamics. We show that for short pulses the variation of the time delay between the subpulses allows for a selective population of the desired final state with high efficiency. Furthermore, also for pulses of longer time duration, when substantial nuclear motion takes place during the action of the pulse, optimized pulse shapes can be obtained which lead to selective population transfer. For both types of pulses, the FISH method almost perfectly reproduces the exact quantum mechanical electronic population dynamics, fully taking account of the electronic coherence, and describes the leading features of the nuclear dynamics accurately. Due to the significantly higher computational efficiency of FISH as a trajectory-based method compared to full quantum dynamics simulations, this offers the possibility to theoretically investigate control experiments on realistic systems including all nuclear degrees of freedom.  相似文献

Anisotropic X-ray scattering patterns of transiently aligned protein molecules in solution are measured by using pump-probe X-ray solution scattering. When a linearly polarized laser pulse interacts with an ensemble of molecules, the population of excited molecules is created with their transition dipoles preferentially aligned along the laser polarization direction. We measured the X-ray scattering from the myoglobin protein molecules excited by a linearly polarized, short laser pulse and obtained anisotropic scattering patterns on 100 ps time scale. An anisotropic scattering pattern contains higher structural information content than a typical isotropic pattern available from randomly oriented molecules. In addition, multiple independent diffraction patterns measured by using various laser polarization orientations will give substantially increased amount of structural information compared with a single isotropic pattern. By monitoring the temporal change of the anisotropic scattering pattern from 100 ps to 1 μs, we observed the orientational dynamics of photo-generated myoglobin with the rotational diffusion time of ~15 ns.  相似文献

A fluorescein derivative (SAMSA) bound to gold nanoparticles of different diameters is investigated by time-resolved fluorescence at the single molecule level in a wide dynamic range, from nanosecond to second time scale. The significant decrease of both SAMSA excited state lifetime and fluorescence quantum yield observed upon binding to gold nanoparticles can be essentially traced back to an increase of the nonradiative deactivation rate, probably due to energy transfer, that depends on the nanoparticle size. A slow single molecule fluorescence blinking, in the ms time scale, has a marked dependence on the excitation intensity both under single and under two photon excitation. The blinking dynamics is limited by a low probability nonlinear excitation to a high energy state from which a transition to a dark state occurs. The results point out a strong coupling between the vibro-electronic configuration of the dye and the plasmonic features of the metal nanoparticles that provide dye radiationless deactivation channels on a wide dynamic range.  相似文献

External electric field effects on state energy and photoexcitation dynamics have been examined for para-substituted and unsubstituted all-trans-diphenylpolyenes doped in a film, based on the steady-state and picosecond time-resolved measurements of the field effects on absorption and fluorescence. The substitution dependence of the electroabsorption spectra shows that the dipole moment of the substituted stilbene in the Franck-Condon excited state becomes larger with increasing difference between the Hammet constants of the substituents. Fluorescence quantum yields of 4-(dimethylamino)-4'-nitrostilbene and 4-(dimethylamino)-4'-nitrodiphenylbutadiene are markedly reduced by an electric field, suggesting that the rates of the intramolecular charge transfer (CT) from the fluorescent state to the nonradiative CT state are accelerated by an external electric field. The magnitude of the field-induced decrease in fluorescence lifetime has been evaluated. The isomerization of the unsubstituted all-trans-diphenylpolyenes to the cis forms is shown to be a significant nonradiative pathway even in a film. Field-induced quenching of their fluorescence as well as field-induced decrease in fluorescence lifetime suggests that the trans to cis photoisomerization is enhanced by an electric field.  相似文献

Excited state population can be manipulated by resonant chirped laser pulses through pump–dump processes. We investigate these processes in the laser dye LD690 as a function of wavelength by monitoring the saturated absorption of chirped ultrafast pulses. The resulting nonlinear absorption spectrum becomes increasingly complex as the pulse is tuned to shorter wavelengths. However, fluorescence measurements indicate that the excited state population depends weakly on chirp when the pump wavelength is far from the lowest order electronic transition. Using a learning algorithm and closed-loop control, we find nonlinear chirp parameters that optimize features in the transmission spectrum. The results are discussed in terms of competition between excited state absorption and stimulated resonant Raman scattering.  相似文献

The light-driven NADPH:protochlorophyllide oxidoreductase (POR) is a key enzyme of chlorophyll biosynthesis in angiosperms. POR's unique requirement for light to become catalytically active makes the enzyme an attractive model to study the dynamics of enzymatic reactions in real time. Here, we use picosecond time-resolved fluorescence and femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy to examine the influence of the protein environment on the excited-state dynamics of the substrate, protochlorophyllide (PChlide), in the enzyme/substrate (PChlide/POR) and pseudoternary complex including the nucleotide cofactor NADP(+) (PChlide/NADP(+)/ POR). In comparison with the excited-state processes of unbound PChlide, the lifetime of the thermally equilibrated S(1) excited state is lengthened from 3.4 to 4.4 and 5.4 ns in the PChlide/POR and PChlide/NADP(+)/POR complex, whereas the nonradiative rates are decreased by ~30 and 40%, respectively. This effect is most likely due to the reduced probability of nonradiative decay into the triplet excited state, thus keeping the risk of photosensitized side reactions in the enzyme low. Further, the initial reaction path involves the formation of an intramolecular charge-transfer state (S(ICT)) as an intermediate product. From a strong blue shift in the excited-state absorption, it is concluded that the S(ICT) state is stabilized by local interactions with specific protein sites in the catalytic pocket. The possible relevance of this result for the catalytic reaction in the enzyme POR is discussed.  相似文献
