The surface active properties of aqueous solutions of invertible amphiphilic alternated polyesters differing by hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) and molecular weight have been determined over the wide concentration range. The polyesters are based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) of two molecular weights and aliphatic dicarboxylic acids (decanedioic and dodecanedioic). The surface activity of the polyesters and their ability to form micellar assemblies (which was recently shown for organic solvents) has been confirmed in water. The central role of the balance of hydrophilic to hydrophobic groups ratio in the formation of polymeric arrangements having hydrophobic pockets and external hydrophilic shell has been shown. The effect of molecular weight has been found considerable as well. Two changes in slope have been observed for the more hydrophobic polyesters in the surface tension vs log concentration curve. The change at low concentration is believed to originate from the formation of polyester assemblies with a hydrophobic interior and hydrophilic exterior due to the interaction of hydrophobic fragments and macromolecular flexibility. The higher concentration region exhibits behavior consistent with a cmc, which was confirmed by additional dye solubilization experiments. Molecular structure of the polyester micelles is determined by the solubilization of a solvatochromic dye. The experiment confirmed that micellization of polyesters is accompanied by the association of more hydrophobic (aliphatic) constituents forming the micelle interior. The hydrophilic fragments (ethylene oxide groups) are involved in the formation of micelle exterior.  相似文献

A potentiometric technique based on surfactant ion selective electrode has been used for various cationic and anionic surfactants. The data obtained contain m 1 (surfactant monomer concentration); m 2 (free counterion concentration) and α (degree of dissociation of micelle) were used for determination of aggregation number at and above cmc (critical micelle concentration). Data fitting show a relationship between aggregation number with such parameters. The correlation equation obtained shows that size of ionic micelle vary sharply after cmc. Also, the equation obtained shows size of micelle growth with increase in counterion concentration.  相似文献

We have investigated the mixing behavoir of a pH‐mediated ternary surfactant mixture at constant ratio of dodecyldimethylamine oxide (DDAO) and Triton X‐100 (9:1). From the equilibrium surface tension measurements at different pHs, the critical micelle concentration (cmc) data were obtained as functions of the pH. Values of the cmc and composition of the micelles were predicted using the regular solution approximation. To some extent, the experimental cmc values agree with the predicted cmc. The average degree of ionization of dodecyldimethylamine oxide in the mixed surfactant systems was estimated using potentiometric titrations. The surface electric potential of the micelles (Ψo) was determined using two methods, one by hydrogen ion titration and the other by the dissociation constants of an acid‐base indicator. In a high degree of ionization of DDAO in the micelles phase (am), Ψo estimated from acid‐base indicator is much higher than that from hydrogen ion titration. In the protonated dodecyldimethylamine oxide/TX‐100 binary surfactant system, Ψo estimated from hydrogen ion titration was as high as 89 mV. The micellar aggregation numbers evaluated by the steady‐state fluorescence probe method increase with pH except at pH=5.03. At pH=5.03, the maximum micelle aggregation number was observed.  相似文献

以聚乙二醇单甲醚甲基丙烯酸酯(MPEGMA)为大分子单体, 甲基丙烯酸六氟丁酯(HFMA)为含氟单体, N-异丙基丙烯酰胺(NIPAAm)为功能性单体, 采用大分子单体接枝共聚法, 制备了一种温敏性含氟两亲接枝共聚物P(NIPAAm-co-HFMA)-g-PEG. 利用FTIR, 1H NMR, 19F NMR和GPC对共聚物的结构进行表征; 采用紫外-可见分光光度计测定了共聚物的低临界溶解温度(LCST)约为38.9 ℃, 高于人体正常的生理温度; 利用荧光探针技术测定了共聚物的临界胶束浓度(cmc), 结果表明, 当共聚物溶液温度高于LCST时, 其cmc明显变小; 利用激光光散射粒度仪(LLS)测定了共聚物胶束的水合粒径及其分布, 当温度达到LCST时, 胶束粒径明显变小, 温度过高时, 粒径又有所增大; 利用透射电子显微镜(TEM)研究了共聚物胶束的形貌, 结果表明, P(NIPAAm-co-HFMA)-g-PEG在水溶液中可自组装成球状胶束粒子, 随着温度的升高, 共聚物胶束由松散的核壳结构转变成更加紧凑的球状结构, 且粒径明显变小.  相似文献

New series of ester functionalized quaternary ammonium gemini surfactants having different ethylene oxide units as spacer have been synthesized and investigated for their aggregation behavior and thermodynamic properties of micellization by surface tension, conductivity, and fluorescence methods. The critical micelle concentration (cmc) of these gemini surfactants increases with the increase in the length of polar hydrophilic ethylene oxide spacer. The micellization process has been found to be entropy-driven and dependent on both the tendency of the hydrophobic group of the surfactants to transfer from aqueous environment to interior of micelle as well as the rearrangement of flexible ester-linked ethylene oxide units (hydrophilic spacer) into aqueous phase. The polar ester functional groups and pairs of nonbonding electrons on oxygen atom of ethylene oxide spacer form hydrogen bonding with water molecules enhancing their solubility in aqueous system.  相似文献

以芘为荧光探针、二苯甲酮为猝灭剂,用稳态荧光探针法测定了合成的4种具有支链结构的Guerbet醇聚氧乙烯醚羧酸钠的临界胶束浓度和胶团的聚集数.结果表明,用稳态荧光探针法得到的临界胶束浓度(CMC)数值与表面张力法相差不大.结合临界胶束浓度、胶束微环境的极性和胶束聚集数的变化规律,推测了这类表面活性剂形成的胶束聚集体的结构形态.  相似文献

Specific conductivities of alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chlorides (alkyl=decyl-, dodecyl-, tetradecyl-, and hexadecyl-) in aqueous solutions were measured as a function of molality and temperature. Critical micelle molalities (cmc) and degrees of ionization of the micelles, beta, were estimated from the dependence of the specific conductivity on molality. It was found that temperature dependence of cmc is U-shaped with a minimum shifting toward higher temperatures with a decrease in the chain length of the alkyl group. The temperature dependence of ln xcmc (where xcmc is the cmc in mole fraction units) was fitted to the equation of Muller, which we modified by taking into account the temperature dependencies both of beta and of change in heat capacity upon micellization. From the fitting parameters, Gibbs free energies, enthalpies, and entropies of micellization as a function of temperature were estimated.  相似文献

Fluorosurfactants with several structural modifications have been synthesized, and the air/water interface and bulk aggregation properties investigated. The compounds were fluorinated ethylene oxide (EO) nonionics where the number and position of the hydrophilic group(s) has been radically altered to generate linear, bolaform, and Y-shaped analogues. A noticeable structure-interfacial packing relationship was observed via both tensiometric measurements and neutron reflection studies: the limiting molecular areas, a(cmc), and surface excesses, gamma(cmc), are strongly dependent on the number and position of the EO headgroups. Differing bulk aqueous properties were also observed. Small-angle neutron scattering shows an evolution of micelle structure from cylindrical to disk-like aggregates on changing from Y-shaped to bolaform molecular structure.  相似文献

Novel surface-active monomers were synthesized by successive treatment of tert-butylperoxy-6-hydroxyhexanoate with maleic anhydride, 1,3-propane sultone and triethylamine or with maleic anhydride and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether. The surface-active properties of monomers were studied. The critical micelle concentrations (cmc) as well as the surface tension at the cmc were determined for obtained monomers. The micellization of a novel family of nonionic surfactants poly(oxyethylene) glycol alkyl ethers has been studied by microcalorimetry. One of the surfactants has adamantane, and the other nonionic surfactants have a benzene ring in their hydrophobic chains, which moves from the terminal of the hydrophobic chain toward the headgroup. Moreover, the alkyl chain of the nonionic surfactants is straight or branched. Both the critical micelle concentration (cmc) and the thermodynamic parameters associated with the micelle formation have been obtained. The cmc decreases and the enthalpy of micelle formation (deltaH(mic)) becomes less positive gradually as the length of hydrophobic chain increases, whereas the values of cmc and deltaH(mic) tend to increase for the surfactants with a longer ethylene oxide chain. However, the deltaH(mic) value of the surfactant with seven carbon atoms in a hydrophobic chain is more positive than that of the surfactant with six carbon atoms in a hydrophobic chain. Comparing with the nonionic surfactant with a methylene hydrophobic chain, the surfactants with benzene rings and adamantane groups have larger cmc values and the cmc values increase with the size of the groups. Furthermore, moving the phenyl group from the terminal of the hydrophobic chain to the neighbor of the hydrophilic headgroup leads to the decreased cmc. Both the variation of hydrophobic interaction from the movement of phenyl group and pi-pi interaction among adjacent phenyl groups affect deltaH(mic) values.  相似文献

Micellization behavior of (AB)n type star-block copolymer in a selective solvent for its outer block is investigated by using a Brownian dynamics simulation. Micellar properties are compared in terms of the arm number (n) of star-block copolymer. It is observed that the critical micelle concentration (cmc) shows a minimum when the cmc is plotted against the arm number. The star-block copolymer with longer soluble block shows the cmc minimum at smaller arm number than that with shorter soluble block. Although the star-block copolymer with multiple arms forms more compact core as compared to diblock copolymer, the average aggregation number is inversely proportional to the arm number (approximately 1/n), which implies that the micelle size is invariant with the arm number. Theoretical predictions based on a simple mean field theory agree qualitatively well with the simulation results.  相似文献

The effect of divalent and trivalent salts (CaCl(2), CaBr(2), MgCl(2), MgBr(2), LaCl(3), CeCl(3), La(NO(3))(3), and Ce(NO(3))(3)) on the micelle formation in C(8)-lecithin solutions was investigated using the techniques of static and dynamic light scattering. The critical micelle concentration (cmc), mean hydrodynamic radius (R(h)), gyration radius (R(g)), and weight-average molecular weight of the micelles were measured as functions of salt identity and concentration, amphiphile concentration, and temperature. It was found that the micelles in solutions of magnesium are less likely to form and less stable; their standard enthalpy is less exothermic as the ionic strength increases. On the contrary, the micelles in solutions of calcium and trivalent salts form easily, and are more stable; their standard enthalpy is also more exothermic as the ionic strength increases. Based on our model of the Gibb's free energy for the salt-added solutions, we obtained the following formula for the effect of salts on cmc: ln(cmc)'=ln(cmc)+k(1) I(1/2)+k(2)I, where (cmc)' and (cmc) are the critical micelle concentrations in salt-added and salt-free solutions, respectively, I is the ionic strength, and k(1) and k(2) are the salt effect parameters. The agreement between the formula and the experimental data for all the systems under study shows that the formula is more satisfactory than those suggested previously by other authors in describing the effect of salts on the cmc in the micellar solutions of not only zwitterionic but also nonionic surfactants. Biodegradable, amphiphilic, four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone)‐block‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PCL‐b‐PEO) copolymers were synthesized by ring‐opening polymerization of ethylene oxide in the presence of four‐armed poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) with terminal OH groups with diethylzinc (ZnEt2) as a catalyst. The chemical structure of PCL‐b‐PEO copolymer was confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The hydroxyl end groups of the four‐armed PCL were successfully substituted by PEO blocks in the copolymer. The monomodal profile of molecular weight distribution by gel permeation chromatography provided further evidence for the four‐armed architecture of the copolymer. Physicochemical properties of the four‐armed block copolymers differed from their starting four‐armed PCL precursor. The melting points were between those of PCL precursor and linear poly(ethylene glycol). The length of the outer PEO blocks exhibited an obvious effect on the crystallizability of the block copolymer. The degree of swelling of the four‐armed block copolymer increased with PEO length and PEO content. The micelle formation of the four‐armed block copolymer was examined by a fluorescent probe technique, and the existence of the critical micelle concentration (cmc) confirmed the amphiphilic nature of the resulting copolymer. The cmc value increased with increasing PEO length. The absolute cmc values were higher than those for linear amphiphilic block copolymers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  The interaction of a series of polyethoxylated octylphenols (ethylene oxide units average 8.5–20.0) with liposomes modeling the stratum corneum (SC) lipid composition (40% ceramides, 25% cholesterol, 25% palmitic acid and 10% of cholesteryl sulfate) was investigated. The surfactant/lipid molar ratios (Re) and the bilayer/aqueous-phase partition coefficients (K) were determined by monitoring the changes in the static light scattering of the system during solubilization. The fact that free concentration for each surfactant tested was always similar to its critical micelle concentration (CMC) indi-cates that the liposome solubilization was mainly ruled by the formation of mixed micelles. The Re and K para-meters for liposome saturation fell as the surfactant HLB increased. Thus, at this interaction step the higher the surfactant HLB, the higher the ability of these surfactants to saturate SC liposomes and the lower their degree of partitioning into liposomes. However, the maximum solubilizing ability was achieved at intermediate HLB values. Thus, the octylphenols with 20 and 12.5 ethylene oxide units showed, respectively, the highest power of saturation and solubilization of SC structures in terms of the total surfactant amounts needed to produce these effects. Different trends in the interaction of these surfactants with SC liposomes were observed when comparing the Re and K parameters with those reported for PC ones. Thus, whereas the SC liposomes were more resistant to the surfactant action, the affinity of these surfactants with these bilayer structures was higher in all cases.  A simple procedure for the preparation of styrene-in-water and methylmethacrylate (o/w) micro-emulsions was established. This consisted of the preparation of a w/o emulsion using a low HLB number surfactant (Synperonic NP4, nonyl phenyl with 4 mol ethylene oxide) and a small amount of an anionic surfactant (Aerosol OT, diethyl hexyl sulphosuccinate, or sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate). The w/o emulsion was then titrated with an aqueous solution of a high HLB number surfactant (Synperonic NP15, nonyl phenyl with 15 mol ethylene oxide). The droplet size and poly-dispersity were determined using photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS). The temperature range within which a microemulsion remained stable decreased with increase in the concentration of styrene or methylmethacrylate and this could be explained in terms of the phase diagram of the microemulsion system. The influence of salt, temperature, and deuterium oxide on the self-aggregation of n-nonyl-beta-D-glucoside (beta-C9G1) in dilute solution has been investigated by static and dynamic light scattering, neutron scattering, and tensiometry. Scattering data show that the micelles can be described as relatively stiff, elongated structures with a circular cross section. With a decrease of temperature, the micelles grow in one dimension, which makes it surprising that the critical micelle concentration (cmc) shows a concomitant increase. On the other hand, substitution of D2O for H2O causes a large increase in micelle size at low temperatures, without any appreciable effect on cmc. With increasing temperature, the deuterium effect on the micelle size diminishes. The effects of salt on the micelle size and cmc were found to follow the Hofmeister series. Thus, at constant salt concentration, the micelle size decreased according to the sequence SO4(2-) > Cl- > Br- > NO3- > I- > SCN-, whereas the effect on cmc displays the opposite trend. Here, I- and SCN are salting-in anions. Similarly, the effects of cations decrease with increasing polarizability in the sequence Li+ > Na+ > K+ > Cs+. At high ionic strength, the systems separate into two micellar phases. The results imply that the size of beta-C9G1 micelles is extremely sensitive to changes in the headgroup size. More specifically, temperature and salt effects on effective headgroup size, including intermolecular interactions and water ofhydration, are suggested to be more decisive for the micelle morphology than the corresponding effects on unimer solubility.  相似文献

Current theories and recent results on the thermodynamics of micelle formation and the structure of micelles of nonionic surfactants in water are reviewed. The experimental results are in favor of the mass-action model of micelle formation. This model predicts the existence of micelles below the critical micelle concentration (cmc) and a gradual transition at the cmc. The cmc, as determined conventionally, depends on both the association number, N, and the equilibrium constant, nKc of closed association on a mole basis. Empirical' relationships between N and nKc have been found for n-octyl-β-D-glucoside (OG) and two nonylphenol(ethylene glycol)x ethers (NP) at various temperatures as well as for four different ethylene glvcol acrylamides (EMA) CH2?C(CH3)-CO-NR-(CH2)10-CO-(OCH2CH2)15-OCH3The equilibrium constants of association can be determined by different molecular weight methods, even in the case of polymolecular unimers. Extrathermodynamic relationships exist between the enthalpies and entropies of association.  相似文献

Cationic amphiphilic diblock copolymers of poly(n-butylacrylate)-b-poly(3-(methacryloylamino)propyl)trimethylammonium chloride) (PBA-b-PMAPTAC) with various hydrophobic and hydrophilic chain lengths were synthesized by a reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) process. Their molecular characteristics such as surface activity/nonactivity were investigated by surface tension measurements and foam formation observation. Their micelle formation behavior and micelle structure were investigated by fluorescence probe technique, static and dynamic light scattering (SLS and DLS), etc., as a function of hydrophilic and hydrophobic chain lengths. The block copolymers were found to be non-surface active because the surface tension of the aqueous solutions did not change with increasing polymer concentration. Critical micelle concentration (cmc) of the polymers could be determined by fluorescence and SLS measurements, which means that these polymers form micelles in bulk solution, although they were non-surface active. Above the cmc, the large blue shift of the emission maximum of N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine (NPN) probe and the low micropolarity value of the pyrene probe in polymer solution indicate the core of the micelle is nonpolar in nature. Also, the high value of the relative intensity of the NPN probe and the fluorescence anisotropy of the 1,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hexatriene (DPH) probe indicated that the core of the micelle is highly viscous in nature. DLS was used to measure the average hydrodynamic radii and size distribution of the copolymer micelles. The copolymer with the longest PBA block had the poorest water solubility and consequently formed micelles with larger size while having a lower cmc. The "non-surface activity" was confirmed for cationic amphiphilic diblock copolymers in addition to anionic ones studied previously, indicating the universality of non-surface activity nature.  相似文献

以芘为荧光探针, 十六烷基氯化吡啶(CPC)为猝灭剂, 以芘的饱和水溶液为溶剂配制表面活性剂溶液, 根据芘的荧光强度之比I1/I3随表面活性剂水溶液浓度的变化, 测定了三聚季铵盐表面活性剂CTTTA的cmc值, 测定值与表面张力法测定的cmc值一致;当猝灭剂CPC的浓度取0.1~0.3 mmol·L-1范围时, 用稳态荧光探针法测定了CTTTA的胶束聚集数. 实验数据表明, 表面活性剂溶液浓度为6~10倍cmc时, 胶束聚集数N随表面活性剂浓度增大而线性增大, 并用外推法得到CTTTA的临界胶束聚集数.  相似文献
