第35届国际光谱会议圆满结束

2007年9月23日至27日,第35届国际光谱会议(CSI)在厦门人民会堂举行.CSI是世界光谱分析方面的顶级峰会,自1949年在法国举行首届国际光谱会议以来,通常每两年举办一次,全世界的光谱学家都以能在国际光谱会议上发表自己的研究成果为荣.

我国申办国际光谱会议成功第35届国际光谱会议将于2007年在厦门举行

2003年9月10日晚上,在西班牙Granada市会展中心举行的第33届国际光谱会议(CSI)各国家代表会议上,投票表决。投票结果我国以18比11的票数胜过另一个申办国家匈牙利,取得了第35届国际光谱会议的举办权。这是我国第一次,亚洲第三次取得CSI举办权。第35届CSI将于2007年在海上花园城市厦门举行。

第十四届国际高速摄影与光子学会议

第十四届国际高速摄影与光子学会议于1980年10月19日到24日在莫斯科举行。来自大约20个国家的800多名代表参加了会议。会议论文有240多篇,编入会议文摘的仅190篇。这届会议主席由全苏光学物理测量科学研究所所长CTenaHOB教授担任。

第十四届国际高速摄影和光子学会议于1980年10月19日至24日在莫斯科宇宙饭店举行,这是第一次在苏联召开这种专业的国际学术会议。会议由苏联国家标准委员会和苏联科学院联合组织,会议主席由国家标准委员会所属的全苏光学物理测量科学研究所所长教授担任。

The International Conference on Advanced Optical Diagnostics in Fluids, Solids and Combustion (VSJ-SPIE04)

The International Conference on Advanced Optical Diagnostics in Fluids, Solids and Combustion (VSJ-SPIE04) was successfully held in Tokyo from December 4th to 7th in 2004 under the co-sponsorship of Visualization Society of Japan (VSJ) and The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE). Total 66 papers on forefront optical diagnostics and those applications were presented at the conference and the active and enthusiastic discussions were made. The results of the conference surely contribute to the future developments of optical diagnostics in the wide engineering fields.

Fiber Optics: Physics and Technology,by Fedor Mitschke

This Conference, under the auspices of OEEC and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, was attended by more than a hundred delegates, representing some twenty-six nations. The Conference Chairman was Professor Sanborn C. Brown (U.S.A.), and the Conference Secretary Mr. Norman Clarke. The forty papers to be discused had been circulated to delegates well before the Conference, and the actual sessions were devoted to general discussions based on groups of papers which formed a unifying theme. Immediately after the close of the Conference, Prof. Brown and Mr. Clarke began the preparation of a full report of the proceedings, which will make a substantial volume. Among the general topics discussed were the place of physics in general education (opened by Mr. Clarke); the selection of university entrants for physics courses (Prof. G. K. T. Conn); examinations in physics (Dr. H. F. Boulind); the use of films and television in physics teaching (Dr. Harvey White, U.S.A.); and the Physical Science Study Committee's syllabus and programme (Prof. J. R. Zacharias, U.S.A.).     

Two international colour meetings

Two international Colour meetings held in May 1961 have given an opportunity or scientists working in this field to meet and compare notes. The first was the Maxwell Colour Centenary in London, organized by the Colour Group, with the Institute of Physics and Physical Society, and the Jnter–Society Colour Council (of the U.S.A.), to celebrate the first demonstration of colour photography; it was deliberately kept informal as its primary purpose was an Anglo–American get-together, and its twenty–odd invited papers consisted mostly of reviews of progress in the field over the last hundred years. The second meeting was on a larger scale, held in Dusseldorf, and organized jointly by the Fachnormenausschuss Farbe im Deutschen Normenausschuss (FNF) and the Centre d'Jnformation de la Couleur (C.I.C.) of France, being the fifth in a series of JournCes Jnternationales de la Couleur. More than eighty papers covered a range of topics from colorimetry and colour vision to problems of education and the use of colour in fashion, decoration, and advertising.     

Hyperfine interactions and nuclear probes in chemistry: The active interface

A symposium entitled “Hyperfine Interaction and Nuclear Probes in Chemistry” was held in conjunction with the 198 th. National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Miami Beach, Florida, 12 and 13 September 1989. The four half-day sessions consisted of 15 invited and 4 contributed papers, and allowed numerous opportunities for spirited discussion and information exchange, especially at the informal luncheons and pre-dinner periods, and Miami Beach proved to be a most effective venue for these activities. In the pages to follow are collected a number of the scientific reports presented at this symposium; other contributions will be published elsewhere at the discretion of the author(s).     

FLUCOME 2000 The Sixth Triennial International Symposium on Flow Control, Measurement and Flow Visualization

This report gives an account of FLUCOME 2000, the Sixth International Symposium on Flow Control, Measurements and Flow Visualization held in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada from the 13th to the 17th of August 2000. It includes a presentation of the venue, the different sessions and the Proceedings as well as a short résumé of the three keynote lectures given by Y. Nakayama (“Present and Future of Visualization,” K. Aoki co-author), S. Mauro (“New Developments and New Trends in Pneumatics,” G. Belforte author) and M. Boulos (“Thermal Plasma Flow Visualization and Diagnostics”). The Symposium banquet was the lieu of nomination of Professor K. Tsuchiya as honorary member of the International Steering Committee. One hundred and forty four researchers from eighteen countries have registered to the Symposium.     

Summary of FLUCOME 97 Hayama

This article is a summary of the fifth Triennial International Symposium on Fluid Control, Measurement and Visualization, FLUCOME ’97 Hayama, which was held from September 1 to September 4 in 1997 at Hayama, Japan. The FLUCOME symposium was held at first in Tokyo in 1985, the 2nd in 1988 in Sheffield, UK, the 3rd in 1991 in San Fransisco, USA, the 4th in 1994 in Toulouse, France, and came back again to Japan in 1997. FLUCOME ’97 Hayama was sponsored by the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers of Japan and Japan Science Foundation, and co-sponsored by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Japan Hydraulics and Pneumatics Society and the Visualization Society of Japan. The participants exchanged new information and deepened their friendship among them. A lot of new ideas and important research results were reported and the new directions in fluid control, measurement and visualization were discussed freely. The sixth symposium chaired by Prof. A. Laneville will be held in Sherbrooke (Québec) Canada in 2000, and the seventh will be held in Italy in 2003.     

The 4th World Congress on Industrial Process Tomography

The 4^th World Congress on Industrial Process Tomography (WCIPT4) was held in Aizu, Japan, from September 5 to 8, 2005 (home page: http://www.vcipt.org.uk/wcipt4/). The congress venue was OnYado Toho, a traditional Japanese hotel in Higashiyama Onsen, which is approximately 15 minutes from Aizu-wakamatsu station by car and approximately 4 hours from Narita Airport by train and shinkansen. The congress attracted 183 participants from 21 countries. Eight categories of parallel sessions and two poster sessions were held. A total of 174 papers were presented, including 3 invited lectures and 40 posters. In the plenary lectures, Professor Xi-Cheng Zhang presented “Terahertz Wave Imaging Technology”, Professor Lynn Gladden explained the “Latest Development in Dynamic MRI of Multi-Phase Systems”, and Professor Hideaki Koizumi discussed “Optical Topography for Higher-order Brain-function Imaging and its Practical Applications”. The congress also incorporated some local events, including a technical tour of the University of Aizu. The university staff introduced the state-of-the-art computer facility. In addition, a city sightseeing excursion visited Tsurugajo Castle and a sake museum. All attendees enjoyed lavish dinners with traditional Japanese entertainment in the evenings.     

Report on the Proceedings of the 2001 India-USA Symposium on Emerging Trends in Vibration and Noise Engineering

The joint India-USA symposium was held at The Ohio State University in December 2001 and focused on basic research issues and trends in the general area of vibration and noise engineering. Over 100 delegates and observers participated, including delegates from 19 academic institutions, 18 industrial companies and seven national agencies. Fifteen delegates traveled from India. Overall, 55 articles including state-of-the-art papers were presented on a variety of topics. Papers selected for the 3-day meeting dealt with advanced problem-solving strategies, experimental and computational structural dynamics, intake and exhaust systems, aerospace applications, non-linear dynamics, structure-borne noise and vibration isolation, vibration and acoustic materials, statistical energy analysis, smart structures, turbo-machinery vibration, smart materials and active control, and machinery vibration and acoustics. The impact of new and emerging technologies was illustrated through case studies and personal experiences. In addition, interactive workshops with potential sponsors added an important element to this symposium with key experts from industry and government agencies highlighting their research needs and vision. The Symposium is expected to stimulate further research and collaboration between the two countries. Selected articles (20 including this report) are published in the special edition of the Journal of Sound and Vibration for archival purposes and for dissemination to the global noise and vibration control community.
