We study the impact of dimension-six operators of the standard model effective field theory relevant for vector-boson fusion and associated Higgs boson production at the LHC. We present predictions at the next-to-leading order accuracy in QCD that include matching to parton showers and that rely on fully automated simulations. We show the importance of the subsequent reduction of the theoretical uncertainties in improving the possible discrimination between effective field theory and standard model results, and we demonstrate that the range of the Wilson coefficient values allowed by a global fit to LEP and LHC Run I data can be further constrained by LHC Run II future results.  相似文献

Nuclear processes involving momenta much below the mass of the pion may be described by an effective field theory in which the pions do not appear as explicit degrees of freedom. The effects of the pion and all other virtual hadrons are reproduced by the coefficients of gauge-invariant local operators involving the nucleon field. Nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shift data constrains many of the coefficients that appear in the effective Lagrangean but at some order in the expansion coefficients enter that must be constrained by other observables. We compute several observables in the two-nucleon sector up to next-to-next-to leading order in the effective field theory without pions, or to the order at which a counterterm involving four-nucleon field operators is encountered. Effective range theory is recovered from the effective field theory up to the order where relativistic corrections enter or where four-nucleon-external current local operators arise. For the deuteron magnetic moment, quadrupole moment and the np radiative capture cross section a four-nucleon-one-photon counterterm exists at next-to-leading order. The electric polarizability and electric charge form factor of the deuteron are determined up to next-to-next-to-leading order, which includes the first appearance of relativistic corrections.  相似文献

We will give a short introduction to the one-nucleon sector of chiral perturbation theory and will address the issue of a consistent power counting and renormalization. We will discuss the infrared regularization and the extended on-mass-shell scheme. Both allow for the inclusion of further degrees of freedom beyond pions and nucleons and the application to higher-loop calculations. As applications we consider the chiral expansion of the nucleon mass to order O(q6) and the inclusion of vector and axial-vector mesons in the calculation of nucleon form factors.  相似文献

The effective field theory of heterotic vacua that realise Open image in new window preserving \(\mathcal {N}{=}1\) supersymmetry is studied. The vacua in question admit large radius limits taking the form Open image in new window , with Open image in new window a smooth threefold with vanishing first Chern class and a stable holomorphic gauge bundle Open image in new window . In a previous paper we calculated the kinetic terms for moduli, deducing the moduli metric and Kähler potential. In this paper, we compute the remaining couplings in the effective field theory, correct to first order in \({\alpha ^{\backprime }\,}\). In particular, we compute the contribution of the matter sector to the Kähler potential and derive the Yukawa couplings and other quadratic fermionic couplings. From this we write down a Kähler potential Open image in new window and superpotential Open image in new window .  相似文献

We calculate the parity-conserving one-loop string corrections to the bosonic part of the 10-dimensional effective field theory for the heterotic string. There is no renormalization of the Chamseddine-Chapline-Manton supergravity action, but terms of fourth order in the curvature tensors are generated. Most of these are of the same forms as those found at the tree level of the string topological expansion, such as (TrR2)2, (TrR2)(TrF2) and (TrF2)2. However, we also find a non-zero Tr(F4) coupling which was not present at the tree level. We comment on the phenomenological implications of these results, which include absences of renormalization of the Kähler metric and of the gauge kinetic function of the effective field theory in four dimensions after compactification, and a modification of the classical equations to be obeyed by the manifold of compactification.  相似文献

We demonstrate the appearance of spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by nonperturbative quantum corrections for scalar light cone quantum field theory in 1+1 dimensions. We define a light cone effective potential and obtain a second order phase transition.  相似文献

The renormalization of the iterated one-pion exchange (OPE) has been studied in chiral effective field theory (χEFT) for the antinucleon-nucleon (begin{document}$ overline{N} N $end{document}) scattering in some partial waves (Phys. Rev. C 105, 054005 (2022)). In this paper, we go further for the other higher partial waves but with total angular momenta begin{document}$ Jleq 3 $end{document}. Contact interactions are represented by a complex spherical well in the coordinate space. Changing the radius of the spherical well means changing the cutoff. We check the cutoff dependence of the phase shifts, inelasticities, and mixing angles for the partial waves and show that contact interactions are needed at leading order in channels where the singular tensor potentials of OPE are attractive. The results are compared with the energy-dependent partial-wave analysis of begin{document}$ overline{N} N $end{document} scattering data. Comparisons between our conclusions and applications of χEFT to the nucleon-nucleon system are also discussed.  相似文献

We review how nuclear forces emerge from low-energy QCD via chiral effective field theory. The presentation is accessible to the non-specialist. At the same time, we also provide considerable detailed information (mostly in appendices) for the benefit of researchers who wish to start working in this field.  相似文献

Parton physics, when formulated as light-front correlations, are difficult to study non-perturbatively,despite the promise of lightfront quantization.Recently an alternative approach to partons have been proposed by re-visiting original Feynman picture of a hadron moving at asymptotically large momentum. Here I formulate the approach in the language of an effective field theory for a large hadron momentum P in lattice QCD,LaMET for short.I show that using this new effective theory, parton properties, including light-front parton wave functions, can be extracted from lattice observables in a systematic expansion of 1/P,much like that the parton distributions can be extracted from the hard scattering data at momentum scales of a few GeV.  相似文献
