The following result is proved: letE be anF-space (that is, the space of all continuous affine functions defined on a compact universal cap van shing at zero) and letMχE be anM-ideal. Then, ifE/M is a π1 with positive defining projections, then there is a positive linear operator ϱ:E/M→E of norm one such that ϱ lifts the canonical mapE→E/M. In the proof, which heavily depends on work of Ando, we study ensor products of certain convex cones with compact bases, and we calculate the norm of a positive linear operator defined on a finite dimensional space with range in aF-space. In this paper, we present a new approach for computing Lyapunov functions for nonlinear discrete-time systems with an asymptotically stable equilibrium at the origin. Given a suitable triangulation of a compact neighbourhood of the origin, a continuous and piecewise affine function can be parameterized by the values at the vertices of the triangulation. If these vertex values satisfy system-dependent linear inequalities, the parameterized function is a Lyapunov function for the system. We propose calculating these vertex values using constructions from two classical converse Lyapunov theorems originally due to Yoshizawa and Massera. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed approach.  相似文献

A finite frame for a finite dimensional Hilbert space is simply a spanning sequence. We show that the linear functionals given by the dual frame vectors do not depend on the inner product, and thus it is possible to extend the frame expansion (and other elements of frame theory) to any finite spanning sequence for a vector space. The corresponding coordinate functionals generalise the dual basis (the case when the vectors are linearly independent), and are characterised by the fact that the associated Gramian matrix is an orthogonal projection. Existing generalisations of the frame expansion to Banach spaces involve an analogue of the frame bounds and frame operator.The potential applications of our results are considerable. Whenever there is a natural spanning set for a vector space, computations can be done directly with it, in an efficient and stable way. We illustrate this with a diverse range of examples, including multivariate spline spaces, generalised barycentric coordinates, and vector spaces over the rationals, such as the cyclotomic fields.  相似文献

We use Goodwillie calculus methods to prove that under suitable conditions on and , will send an -isomorphism in either variable to a map that is monic in homology. Interesting examples arise by letting be -theory, the finite complex be a sphere, and the map in the variable be an exotic unstable Adams map between Moore spaces.

Let D be a bounded domain in R2 with smooth boundary. Let B1, …, Bm be non-intersecting smooth Jordan curves contained in D, and let D′ denote the complement of ∪i ? 1mBi respect to D. Suppose that u ? C2(D′) ∩ C(D?) and Δu ? 0 in D′ (where Δ is the Laplacian), while across each “interface” Bi, i = 1,…, m, there is “continuity of flux” (as suggested by the theory of heat conduction). It is proved here that the presence of the interfaces does not alter the conclusions of the classical minimum principle (for Δu ? 0 in D). The result is extended in several regards. Also it is applied to an elliptic free boundary problem and to the proof of uniqueness for steady-state heat conduction in a composite medium. Finally this minimum principle (which assumes “continuity of flux”) is compared with one due to Collatz and Werner which employs an alternative interface condition.  相似文献
