Brownmillerite calcium ferrite was synthesized in air at 1573 K and thermoelectric properties (direct current electrical conductivity σ, Seebeck coefficient α, thermal conductivity κ, thermal expansion αL) were measured from 373 to 1050 K in air. Seebeck coefficient was positive over all temperatures indicating conduction by holes, and electrical properties were continuous through the Pnma-Imma phase transition. Based on the thermopower and conductivity activation energies as well as estimated mobility, polaron hopping conduction was found to dominate charge transport. The low electrical conductivity, <1 S/cm, limits the power factor (α2σ), and thus the figure of merit for thermoelectric applications. The thermal conductivity values of ∼2 W/mK and their similarity to Ruddlesden-Popper phase implies the potential of the alternating tetrahedral and octahedral layers to limit phonon propagation through brownmillerite structures. Bulk linear coefficient of thermal expansion (∼14×10−6 K−1) was calculated from volume data based on high-temperature in situ X-ray powder diffraction, and shows the greatest expansion perpendicular to the alternating layers.  相似文献

High-resolution X-ray synchrotron powder diffraction studies under high-pressure conditions are reported for the ordered double perovskite Ba2BiSbO6. Near 4 GPa, the oxide undergoes a pressure-induced phase transition. The symmetry of the material changes during the phase transition from space group to space group I2/m, which is consistent with a change in the octahedral tilting distortion from an aaa type to a0bb type using the Glazer notation. A fit of the volume-pressure data using the Birch-Murnagaham equation of state yielded a bulk modulus of 144(8) GPa for the rhombohedral phase.  相似文献

Changes in structure and dielectric properties at elevated temperatures have been investigated on single-crystals of sodium potassium niobate, Na0.5K0.5NbO3, grown by the flux method. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the crystals underwent orthorhombic-tetragonal and tetragonal-cubic phase transitions at 465 and 671 K during heating and 446 and 666 K during cooling, respectively. Both transitions were accompanied by volumetric discontinuities of collapse upon heating and expansion upon cooling, suggesting that the transitions were of the first order. The coordination numbers of an Nb showed a decreasing tendency with decreasing temperature, i.e., 6 in cubic, 5+1 in tetragonal and 4+2 in orthorhombic. An Na atom occupied a slightly different position from the K atom in 12-fold coordination, resulting in fewer coordination numbers of 8+4 in cubic and tetragonal and 7+5 in orthorhombic. The spontaneous polarisation (Ps) estimated from the atom positions and formal charges were approximately 0.29 C m−2 in orthorhombic and 0.18 C m−2 in tetragonal. The contribution of the alkaline oxide components to Ps was estimated to be approximately 15% in both ferroelectric forms. The temperature-induced transitions were also confirmed through the dielectric constant and dielectric loss at various frequencies and the differential scanning calorimetry.  相似文献

Phase transitions that occurred in perovskite BaPbO3 have been investigated using high-resolution time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction. The structure at room temperature is orthorhombic (space group Imma), which is derived from the cubic aristotype by tilting the PbO6 octahedra around the two-fold axis (tilt system a0bb). The orthorhombic structure shows anisotropic line broadening attributed to the presence of micro twins. At above about 573 K, BaPbO3 undergoes a discontinuous phase transition to a tetragonal structure (space group I4/mcm) with the tilting of the PbO6 octahedra being about the four-fold axis of the cubic aristotype (tilt system a0a0c). With further increasing the temperature, BaPbO3 experiences a continuous phase transition to a simple cubic structure (space group Pmm) at above about 673 K. The later phase transition is characterised by a critical exponent of β=0.36, depicted by the three-dimensional Heisenberg universality class. The earlier reported ImmaI2/m phase transition above room temperature has not been observed.  相似文献

The germanate compound Cu2Sc2Ge4O13 has been synthesized by solid-state ceramic sintering techniques between 1173 and 1423 K. The structure was solved from single-crystal data by Patterson methods. The title compound is monoclinic, a=12.336(2) Å, b=8.7034(9) Å, c=4.8883(8) Å, β=95.74(2), space group P21/m, Z=4. The compound is isotypic with Cu2Fe2Ge4O13, described very recently. The structure consists of crankshaft-like chains of edge-sharing ScO6 octahedra running parallel to the crystallographic b-axis. These chains are linked laterally by [Cu2O6]8− dimers forming a sheet of metal-oxygen-polyhedra within the a-b plane. These sheets are separated along the c-axis by [Ge4O13]10− units. Cooling to 100 K does not alter the crystallographic symmetry of Cu2Sc2Ge4O13. While the b, c lattice parameter and the unit cell volume show a positive linear thermal expansion (α=6.4(2)×10−6, 5.0(2)×10−6 and 8.3(2)×10−6 K−1 respectively), the a lattice parameter exhibits a negative thermal expansion (α=−3.0(2)×10−6 K−1) for the complete T-range investigated. This negative thermal expansion of a is mainly due to the increase of the Cu-Cu interatomic distance, which is along the a-axis. Average bond lengths remain almost constant between 100 and 298 K, whereas individual ones partly show both significant shortages and lengthening.  相似文献

B-site disordered RFe0.5V0.5O3 compounds, with R=La, Nd, Eu and Y, have been prepared by solid-state reaction technique and their structures and magnetic properties have been investigated through X-ray powder diffraction, time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction and magnetization measurements at temperatures ranging from 5 to 700 K. The four compounds can be described as distorted perovskites with space group symmetry Pbnm and a+bb tilt system. The studied compounds also show antiferromagnetic ordering with Neel temperatures of 299, 304, 304, and 335 K respectively. The magnetic structures of R=La, Nd and Y compounds were determined from the neutron powder diffraction as Gz with observed magnetic moments of 2.55, 2.54 and 2.69μB at 30, 40 and 40 K, respectively.  相似文献

The influence of Bi3+ on the structural and magnetic properties of the rare-earth-containing perovskites REFe0.5Mn0.5O3 (RE=La,Nd) was studied, and the limit of bismuth substitution was determined to be x≤0.5 in BixRE1−xFe0.5Mn0.5O3+δ (RE=La,Nd) at ambient pressure. Crystal structures in both La and Nd series were determined to be GdFeO3-type Pnma with the exception of the Bi0.3La0.7Fe0.5Mn0.5O3 sample, which is monoclinic I2/a in the abb tilt scheme. The samples undergo a transition to G-type antiferromagnetic order along with a weak ferromagnetic component, mixed with cluster-glass type behavior. The substitution of bismuth into the lattice results in a drop in TN relative to the lanthanide end-members. Long range ordering temperatures TN in the range 240-255 K were observed, with a significantly lower ordered magnetic moment in the case of lanthanum (M∼1.7-1.9 μB) than in the case of neodymium (M∼2.1 μB).  相似文献

The structural variants and their coexistence across the antiferroelectric phase transition in Sr0.60Ca0.40TiO3 ceramic has been studied through transmission electron microscopy (TEM) at room temperature and ∼100 °C. A clear evidence of the presence of superlattice reflections, corresponding to the cell doubling along the c-axis of Pbnm (or b-axis along Pnma), occurring during paraelectric to antiferroelectric transition, has been obtained through selected area electron diffraction, convergent beam electron diffraction and lattice-resolution imaging. Coexistence of the Pbnm and Pbcm phases at room temperature has been observed and attributed to the strain/disorder-induced broadening of the first-order antiferroelectric phase transition. Drastic changes in the domain structure during Pbnm to Pbcm transformation have been observed. This clearly indicates that the antiferrodistortive transition responsible for the occurrence of the antiferroelectric phase is of completely different origin and it is not just an additional follow-up of the already-existing ordering due to aac+ tilt schemes in the Pbnm domain. Thermal cycling studies on microstructural changes indicate some kind of memory mechanism, which retains the memory of the original aac+ tilt schemes in the Pbnm phase. This has been attributed to the symmetry conforming short-range order (SC-SRO) of the point defects.  相似文献

High-resolution time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction was carried out to investigate the crystal structures of CeAlO3 over a wide temperature range between 4.2 and 1423 K. Confirming the recent result of X-ray powder diffraction, the room temperature structure is tetragonal with the space group I4/mcm (tilt system (a0a0c)). The tetragonal structure persists down to 4.2 K. However, above room temperature CeAlO3 undergoes three phase transitions: first to the orthorhombic Imma structure (tilt system (a0bb)) at, e.g., 373 K, then to the rhombohedral structure (tilt system (aaa)) at, e.g., 473 K, and finally, to the primitive cubic structure which exists above 1373 K. The sequence of phases, , which occurs in CeAlO3 is a rare one in oxide perovskites.  相似文献

Single crystals of SrAl2Si2 were synthesized by reaction of the elements in an aluminum flux at 1000 °C. SrAl2Si2 is isostructural to CaAl2Si2 and crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P-3m1 (90 K, a=4.1834 (2), c=7.4104 (2) Å, Z=1, R1=0.0156, wR2=0.0308). Thermal analysis shows that the compound melts at ∼1020 °C. Low-temperature resistivity on single crystals along the c-axis shows metallic behavior with room temperature resistivity value of ∼7.5 mΩ cm. High-temperature Seebeck, resistivity, and thermal conductivity measurements were made on hot-pressed pellets. The Seebeck coefficient shows negative values in entire temperature range decreasing from ∼−78 μV K−1 at room temperature to −34 μV K−1 at 1173 K. Seebeck coefficients are negative indicating n-type behavior; however, the temperature dependence is consistent with contribution from minority p-type carriers as well. The lattice contribution to the thermal conductivity is higher than for clathrate structures containing Al and Si, approximately 50 mW cm−1 K, and contributes to the overall low zT for this compound.  相似文献

X-ray single-crystal diffraction, high-temperature powder diffraction and differential thermal analysis at ambient and high pressure have been employed to study the crystal structure and phase transitions of guanidinium trichlorostannate, C(NH2)3SnCl3. At 295 K the crystal structure is orthorhombic, space group Pbca, Z=8, a=7.7506(2) Å, b=12.0958(4) Å and c=17.8049(6) Å, solved from single-crystal data. It is perovskite-like with distorted corner-linked SnCl6 octahedra and with ordered guanidinium cations in the distorted cuboctahedral voids. At 400 K the structure shows a first-order order-disorder phase transition. The space group is changed to Pnma with Z=4, a=12.1552(2) Å, b=8.8590(2) Å and c=8.0175(1) Å, solved from powder diffraction data and showing disordering of the guanidinium cations. At 419 K, the structure shows yet another first-order order-disorder transformation with disordering of the SnCl3 part. The space group symmetry is maintained as Pnma, with a=12.1786(2) Å, b=8.8642(2) Å and c=8.0821(2) Å. The thermodynamic parameters of these transitions and the p-T phase diagram have been determined and described.  相似文献

The compound CeAu0.28Ge1.72 crystallizes in the ThSi2 structure type in the tetragonal space group I41/amd with lattice parameters a=b=4.2415(6) Å c=14.640(3) Å. CeAu0.28Ge1.72 is a polar intermetallic compound having a three-dimensional Ge/Au polyanion sub-network filled with Ce atoms. The magnetic susceptibility data show Curie-Weiss law behavior above 50 K. The compound orders ferromagnetically at ∼8 K with estimated magnetic moment of 2.48 μB/Ce. The ferromagnetic ordering is confirmed by the heat capacity data which show a rise at ∼8 K. The electronic specific heat coefficient (γ) value obtained from the paramagnetic temperature range 15-25 K is∼124(5) mJ/ mol K2. The entropy change due to the ferromagnetic transition is ∼4.2 J/mol K which is appreciably reduced compared to the value of R ln(2) expected for a crystal-field-split doublet ground state and/or Kondo exchange interactions.  相似文献

Thermal behavior, relative stability, and enthalpy of formation of α (pink phase), β (blue phase), and red NaCoPO4 are studied by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and high-temperature oxide melt drop solution calorimetry. Red NaCoPO4 with cobalt in trigonal bipyramidal coordination is metastable, irreversibly changing to α NaCoPO4 at 827 K with an enthalpy of phase transition of −17.4±6.9 kJ mol−1. α NaCoPO4 with cobalt in octahedral coordination is the most stable phase at room temperature. It undergoes a reversible phase transition to the β phase (cobalt in tetrahedra) at 1006 K with an enthalpy of phase transition of 17.6±1.3 kJ mol−1. Enthalpy of formation from oxides of α, β, and red NaCoPO4 are −349.7±2.3, −332.1±2.5, and −332.3±7.2 kJ mol−1; standard enthalpy of formation of α, β, and red NaCoPO4 are −1547.5±2.7, −1529.9±2.8, and −1530.0±7.3 kJ mol−1, respectively. The more exothermic enthalpy of formation from oxides of β NaCoPO4 compared to a structurally related aluminosilicate, NaAlSiO4 nepheline, results from the stronger acid-base interaction of oxides in β NaCoPO4 (Na2O, CoO, P2O5) than in NaAlSiO4 nepheline (Na2O, Al2O3, SiO2).  相似文献

In order to reveal the nature of the ground state of archetypal intermediate-valence compound SmB6, a comprehensive study of its transport and magnetic properties was carried out on high-quality single crystals at temperatures of 1.8-300 K in magnetic fields up to 7 T. A drastic enhancement of negative magnetoresistance was observed below 14 K, with the maximum absolute value of Δρ/ρB2∼2.2×10−3 T−2 at T≈5.2 K. This effect seems to be attributable to anomalous magnetic scattering of many-body (exciton-polaronic) complexes induced by fast valence fluctuations on Sm sites. The observed anomalies of magnetotransport, thermoelectric and magnetic characteristics are discussed in terms of electron phase transition to the coherent state of interacting many-body complexes occurring at T*∼5 K.  相似文献

A monoclinic phase of the misfit-layered cobalt oxide (Ca0.85OH)1.16CoO2 was successfully synthesized and characterized. It was found that this new material is a poly-type phase of the orthorhombic form of (CaOH)1.14CoO2, recently discovered by the present authors. Both the compounds consist of two interpenetrating subsystems: CdI2-type CoO2 layers and rock-salt-type double-atomic-layer CaOH blocks. However, these two phases exhibit a different stacking structure. By powder X-ray and electron diffraction (ED) studies, it was found that the two subsystems of (Ca0.85OH)1.16CoO2 have c-centered monoclinic Bravais lattices with common a=4.898 Å, c=8.810 Å and β=95.8° lattice parameters, and different b parameters: b1=2.820 Å and b2=4.870 Å. Chemical analyses revealed that the monoclinic phase has a cobalt valence of +3.1-3.2. Resistivity of the monoclinic phase is approximately 101-105 times lower than that of the orthorhombic phase. This suggests that the monoclinic phase is a hole-doped phase of the insulating orthorhombic phase. Furthermore, large positive Seebeck coefficients (∼100 μV/K) were observed near room temperature.  相似文献

A new dabcodiium-templated nickel sulphate, (C6H14N2)[Ni(H2O)6](SO4)2, has been synthesised and characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 20 and −173 °C, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG) and temperature-dependent X-ray powder diffraction (TDXD). The high temperature phase crystallises in the monoclinic space group P21/n with the unit-cell parameters: a = 7.0000(1), b = 12.3342(2), c = 9.9940(2) Å; β = 90.661(1)°, V = 862.82(3) Å3 and Z = 2. The low temperature phase crystallises in the monoclinic space group P21/a with the unit-cell parameters: a = 12.0216(1), b = 12.3559(1), c = 12.2193(1) Å; β = 109.989(1)°, V = 1705.69(2) Å3 and Z = 4. The crystal structure of the HT-phase consists of Ni2+ cations octahedrally coordinated by six water molecules, sulphate tetrahedra and disordered dabcodiium cations linked together by hydrogen bonds. It undergoes a reversible phase transition (PT) of the second order at −53.7/−54.6 °C on heating-cooling runs. Below the PT temperature, the structure is fully ordered. The thermal decomposition of the precursor proceeds through three stages giving rise to the nickel oxide.  相似文献

The crystal and magnetic structures of SrFe2+2(PO4)2 have been determined by neutron powder diffraction data at low temperatures (space group P21/c (no. 14); Z=4; a=9.35417(13) Å, b=6.83808(10) Å, c=10.51899(15) Å, and β=109.5147(7)° at 15 K). Two magnetic phase transitions were found at T1=7.4 K (first-order phase transition) and T2=11.4 K (second-order phase transition). The transition at T2 was hardly detectable by dc and ac magnetization measurements, and a small anomaly was observed by specific heat measurements. At T1, strong anomalies were found by dc and ac magnetization and specific heat. The structure of SrFe2(PO4)2 consists of linear four-spin cluster units, Fe2-Fe1-Fe1-Fe2. Below T1, the propagation vector of the magnetic structure is k=[0,0,0]. The magnetic moments of the inner Fe1-Fe1 atoms of the four-spin cluster unit are ferromagnetically coupled. The magnetic moment of the outer Fe2 atom is also ferromagnetically coupled with that of the Fe1 atom but with spin canting. The four-spin cluster units form ferromagnetic layers parallel to the [−101] plane, while these layers are stacked antiferromagnetically in the [−101] direction. Spin canting of the outer Fe2 atoms provides a weak ferromagnetic moment of about 1 μB along the b-axis. The refined magnetic moments at 3.5 K are 4.09 μB for Fe1 and 4.07 μB for Fe2. Between T1 and T2, a few weak magnetic reflections were observed probably due to incommensurate magnetic order.  相似文献

CsAlSi5O12 crystals were synthesized at high temperature by slow cooling of a vanadium oxide flux. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure analysis and electron microprobe analyses yielded the microporous CAS zeolite framework structure of Cs0.85Al0.85Si5.15O12 composition. High-temperature single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction studies were utilized to analyze anisotropic thermal expansion. Rietveld refined cell constants from powder diffraction data, measured in steps of 25 °C up to 700 °C, show a significant decrease in expansion above 500 °C. At 500 °C, a displacive, static disorder-dynamic disorder-type phase transition from the acentric low-temperature space group Ama2 to centrosymmetric Amam (Cmcm in standard setting) was found. Thermal expansion below the phase transition is governed by rigid-body TO4 rotations accompanied by stretching of T-O-T angles. Above the phase transition at 500 °C all atoms, except one oxygen (O6), are fixed on mirror planes. Temperature-dependent polarized Raman single-crystal spectra between −270 and 300 °C and unpolarized spectra between room temperature and 1000 °C become increasingly less resolved with rising temperature confirming the disordered static-disordered dynamic type of the phase transition.  相似文献

Oriented films of cellulose prepared from algal cellulose were hydrothermally treated to convert them into highly crystalline cellulose Iβ. The lateral thermal expansion behavior of the prepared cellulose Iβ films was investigated using X-ray diffraction at temperatures from 20 to 300 °C. Cellulose Iβ was transformed into the high-temperature phase when the temperature was above 230 °C, allowing the lateral thermal expansion coefficient of cellulose Iβ and its high-temperature phase to be measured. For cellulose Iβ, the thermal expansion coefficients (TECs) of the a- and b-axes were αa = 9.8 × 10−5 °C−1 and αb = 1.2 × 10−5 °C−1, respectively. This anisotropic thermal expansion behavior in the lateral direction is ascribed to the crystal structure and to the hydrogen-bonding system of cellulose Iβ. For the high-temperature phase, the anisotropy was more conspicuous, and the TECs of the a- and b-axes were αa = 19.8 × 10−5 °C−1 and αb = −1.6 × 10−5 °C−1, respectively. Synchrotron X-ray fiber diffraction diagrams of the high-temperature phase were also recorded at 250 °C. The cellulose high-temperature phase is composed of a two-chain monoclinic unit cell, a = 0.819 nm, b = 0.818 nm, c (fiber repeat) = 1.037 nm, and γ = 96.4°, with space group = P21. The volume of this cell is 4.6% larger than that of cellulose Iβ at 30 °C.  相似文献

The structure of bis(dimethylammonium) pentachloroantimonate(III), [(CH3)2NH2]2[SbCl5], BDP, was studied at 15 K and ambient pressure by single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as at ambient temperature and high pressures up to 4.87(5) GPa by Raman spectroscopy. BDP crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnma space group with a=8.4069(4), b=11.7973(7), c=14.8496(7) Å, and Z=4; R1=0.0381, wR2=0.0764. The structure consists of distorted [SbCl6]3− octahedra forming zig-zag [{SbCl5}n]2n chains that are cross-linked by dimethylammonium [(CH3)2NH2]+ cations. The organic and inorganic substructures are bound together by the N-H…Cl hydrogen bonds. The distortions of [SbCl6]3− units increase, partly due to the influence of the hydrogen bonds which became stronger, with decreasing temperature. The preliminary room temperature, high-pressure X-ray diffraction experiments suggest that BDP undergoes a first-order phase transition below ca. 0.44(5) GPa that destroys single-crystal samples. The transition is accompanied by changes in the intensities and positions of the Raman lines below 400 cm−1.  相似文献
