Motivated by Stillman's question, we show that the projective dimension of an ideal generated by four quadric forms in a polynomial ring is at most 6; moreover, this bound is tight. We achieve this bound, in part, by giving a characterization of the low degree generators of ideals primary to height three primes of multiplicities one and two.  相似文献

Let R be a polynomial ring over a field and I an ideal generated by three forms of degree three. Motivated by Stillman's question, Engheta proved that the projective dimension pd(R/I) of R/I is at most 36, although the example with largest projective dimension he constructed has pd(R/I)=5. Based on computational evidence, it had been conjectured that pd(R/I)5. In the present paper we prove this conjectured sharp bound.  相似文献

In this paper, we study Gorenstein injective modules over a local Noetherian ring R. For an R-module M, we show that M is Gorenstein injective if and only if Hom R (Ȓ,M) belongs to Auslander category B(Ȓ), M is cotorsion and Ext i R (E,M) = 0 for all injective R-modules E and all i > 0. Given a homomorphism of commutative noetherian rings RS and an S-module N, it is proved that the Gorenstein flat dimension of N over R, when finite, may be computed locally over S. When, in addition, the homomorphism is local and N is finitely generated over S, the Gorenstein flat dimension equals , where E is the injective hull of the residue field of R. This result is analogous to a theorem of André on flat dimension.  相似文献

We provide a complete classification of all tilting modules and tilting classes over almost perfect domains, which generalizes the classifications of tilting modules and tilting classes over Dedekind and 1-Gorenstein domains. Assuming the APD is Noetherian, a complete classification of all cotilting modules is obtained (as duals of the tilting ones).  相似文献

In this article we consider finitely generated torsion-free modules over certain one-dimensional commutative Noetherian rings R. We assume there exists a positive integer NR such that, for every indecomposable R-module M and for every minimal prime ideal P of R, the dimension of MP, as a vector space over the field RP, is less than or equal to NR. If a nonzero indecomposable R-module M is such that all the localizations MP as vector spaces over the fields RP have the same dimension r, for every minimal prime P of R, then r=1,2,3,4 or 6. Let n be an integer ≥8. We show that if M is an R-module such that the vector space dimensions of the MP are between n and 2n−8, then M decomposes non-trivially. For each n≥8, we exhibit a semilocal ring and an indecomposable module for which the relevant dimensions range from n to 2n−7. These results require a mild equicharacteristic assumption; we also discuss bounds in the non-equicharacteristic case.  相似文献

Let R be a valuation ring and let Q be its total quotient ring. It is proved that any singly projective (respectively flat) module is finitely projective if and only if Q is maximal (respectively artinian). It is shown that each singly projective module is a content module if and only if any non-unit of R is a zero-divisor and that each singly projective module is locally projective if and only if R is self-injective. Moreover, R is maximal if and only if each singly projective module is separable, if and only if any flat content module is locally projective. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a valuation ring with non-zero zero-divisors to be strongly coherent or π-coherent.A complete characterization of semihereditary commutative rings which are π-coherent is given. When R is a commutative ring with a self-FP-injective quotient ring Q, it is proved that each flat R-module is finitely projective if and only if Q is perfect.  相似文献

We provide a class of commutative Noetherian domains R of dimension d such that every finitely generated projective R-module P of rank d splits off a free summand of rank one. On this class, we also show that P is cancellative. At the end we give some applications to the number of generators of a module over the Rees algebras.  相似文献

Let φ:(R,m)→S be a flat ring homomorphism such that mSS. Assume that M is a finitely generated S-module with dimR(M)=d. If the set of support of M has a special property, then it is shown that if and only if for each prime ideal satisfying , we have . This gives a generalization of the Lichtenbaum-Hartshorne vanishing theorem for modules which are finite over a ring homomorphism. Furthermore, we provide two extensions of Grothendieck’s non-vanishing theorem. Applications to connectedness properties of the support are given.  相似文献

For a Noetherian domain, the sets of divisorial primes, t-primes, and associated primes of principal ideals coincide. We study the divisorial primes of a Noetherian domain as a partially ordered set. In particular, we show that it is possible to have arbitrarily long chains and any finite amount of noncatenarity.  相似文献

We prove that the projectivity of an arbitrary (possibly infinite dimensional) module for a Frobenius kernel can be detected by restrictions to one-parameter subgroups. Building upon this result, we introduce the support cone of such a module, extending the construction of support variety for a finite dimensional module, and show that such support cones satisfy most of the familiar properties of support varieties. We also verify that our representation-theoretic definition of support cones admits an interpretation in terms of Rickard idempotent modules associated to thick subcategories of the stable category of finite dimensional modules.  相似文献

A famous theorem of commutative algebra due to I. M. Isaacs states that “if every prime ideal of R is principal, then every ideal of R is principal”. Therefore, a natural question of this sort is “whether the same is true if one weakens this condition and studies rings in which ideals are direct sums of cyclically presented modules?” The goal of this paper is to answer this question in the case R is a commutative local ring. We obtain an analogue of Isaacs's theorem. In fact, we give two criteria to check whether every ideal of a commutative local ring R is a direct sum of cyclically presented modules, it suffices to test only the prime ideals or structure of the maximal ideal of R. As a consequence, we obtain: if R is a commutative local ring such that every prime ideal of R is a direct sum of cyclically presented R-modules, then R is a Noetherian ring. Finally, we describe the ideal structure of commutative local rings in which every ideal of R is a direct sum of cyclically presented R-modules.  相似文献

We prove that a sequence of positive integers (h0,h1,…,hc) is the Hilbert function of an artinian level module of embedding dimension two if and only if hi−1−2hi+hi+1≤0 for all 0≤ic, where we assume that h−1=hc+1=0. This generalizes a result already known for artinian level algebras. We provide two proofs, one using a deformation argument, the other a construction with monomial ideals. We also discuss liftings of artinian modules to modules of dimension one.  相似文献

We find necessary and sufficient conditions on a pullback diagram in order that every nonzero nonunit in its pullback ring admits a finite factorization into irreducible elements. As a result, we can describe a method of easily producing atomic domains that do not satisfy the ascending chain condition on principal ideals.  相似文献
