We study the asymptotic behaviour of the trace (the sum of the diagonal parts) τ n = τ n (ω) of a plane partition ω of the positive integer n, assuming that ω is chosen uniformly at random from the set of all such partitions. We prove that (τ n c 0 n 2/3)/c 1 n 1/3 log1/2 n converges weakly, as n → ∞, to the standard normal distribution, where c 0 = ζ(2)/ [2ζ(3)]2/3, c 1 = √(1/3/) [2ζ(3)]1/3 and ζ(s) = Σ j=1 j s . Rubber rolling over a sphere 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0
“Rubber” coated bodies rolling over a surface satisfy a no-twist condition in addition to the no slip condition satisfied by “marble” coated bodies [1]. Rubber rolling has an interesting differential geometric appeal because the geodesic curvatures of the curves on the surfaces at corresponding points are equal. The associated distribution in the 5 dimensional configuration space has 2–3–5 growth (these distributions were first studied by Cartan; he showed that the maximal symmetries occurs for rubber rolling of spheres with 3:1 diameters ratio and materialize the exceptional group G 2). The 2–3–5 nonholonomic geometries are classified in a companion paper [2] via Cartan’s equivalence method [3]. Rubber rolling of a convex body over a sphere defines a generalized Chaplygin system [4–8] with SO(3) symmetry group, total space Q = SO(3) × S 2 and base S 2, that can be reduced to an almost Hamiltonian system in T*S 2 with a non-closed 2-form ωNH. In this paper we present some basic results on the sphere-sphere problem: a dynamically asymmetric but balanced sphere of radius b (unequal moments of inertia I j but with center of gravity at the geometric center), rubber rolling over another sphere of radius a. In this example ωNH is conformally symplectic [9]: the reduced system becomes Hamiltonian after a coordinate dependent change of time. In particular there is an invariant measure, whose density is the determinant of the reduced Legendre transform, to the power p = 1/2(b/a − 1). Using sphero-conical coordinates we verify the result by Borisov and Mamaev [10] that the system is integrable for p = −1/2 (ball over a plane). They have found another integrable case [11] corresponding to p = −3/2 (rolling ball with twice the radius of a fixed internal ball). Strikingly, a different set of sphero-conical coordinates separates the Hamiltonian in this case. No other integrable cases with different I j are known. 相似文献

We show that if 0<ε≦1, 1≦p<2 andx 1, …,x n is a sequence of unit vectors in a normed spaceX such thatE ‖∑ l n εi x l‖≧n 1/p, then one can find a block basisy 1, …,y m ofx 1, …,x n which is (1+ε)-symmetric and has cardinality at leastγn 2/p-1(logn)−1, where γ depends on ε only. Two examples are given which show that this bound is close to being best possible. The first is a sequencex 1, …,x n satisfying the above conditions with no 2-symmetric block basis of cardinality exceeding 2n 2/p-1. This sequence is not linearly independent. The second example is a sequence which satisfies a lowerp-estimate but which has no 2-symmetric block basis of cardinality exceedingCn 2/p-1(logn)4/3, whereC is an absolute constant. This applies when 1≦p≦3/2. Finally, we obtain improvements of the lower bound when the spaceX containing the sequence satisfies certain type-condition. These results extend results of Amir and Milman in [1] and [2]. We include an appendix giving a simple counterexample to a question about norm-attaining operators. 相似文献

Let Δ3 be the set of functions three times continuously differentiable on [−1, 1] and such that f″′(x) ≥ 0, x ∈ [−1, 1]. We prove that, for any n ∈ ℕ and r ≥ 5, there exists a function fC r [−1, 1] ⋂ Δ3 [−1, 1] such that ∥f (r) C[−1, 1] ≤ 1 and, for an arbitrary algebraic polynomial P ∈ Δ3 [−1, 1], there exists x such that

Given a sequence (x n ) n=1 of real numbers in the interval [0, 1) and a sequence (δ n ) n=1 of positive numbers tending to zero, we consider the size of the set of numbers in [0, 1] which can be ‘well approximated’ by terms of the first sequence, namely, those y ∈ [0, 1] for which the inequality |yx n | < δ n holds for infinitely many positive integers n. We show that the set of ‘well approximable’ points by a sequence (x n ) n=1, which is dense in [0, 1], is ‘quite large’ no matter how fast the sequence (δ n ) n=1 converges to zero. On the other hand, for any sequence of positive numbers (δ n ) n=1 tending to zero, there is a well distributed sequence (x n ) n=1 in the interval [0, 1] such that the set of ‘well approximable’ points y is ‘quite small’. 相似文献

This is a continuation of [19]. We characterize first and second countability of the general hit-and-miss hyperspace topologyτ + Δ for weakly-R 0 base spaces. Further, metrizability ofτ + Δ is characterized with no preliminary conditions on the base space and the generating family of closed sets and a new proof on uniformizability (i.e. complete regularity) ofτ + Δ is given in this general setting, thus generalizing results of [3], [5] and [6]. 相似文献

Under the assumption of (f, M n ,N 2n−1) being trivial, the classification of immersions homotopic tof: M n N 2n−1 is obtained in many cases. The triviality of (f, M n ,P 2n−1) is proved for anyM n andf. LetM, N be differentiable manifolds of dimensionn and2n−1 respectively. For a mapf: M → N, denote byI[M, N] f the set of regular homotopy classes of immersions homotopic tof. It has been proved in [1] that, whenn>1,I[M, N] f is nonempty for anyf. In this paper we will determine the setI[M, N] f in some cases. For example, ifN=P 2n−1 or more generally, the lens spacesS m 2n−1 =Z m /S 2n−1,M is any orientablen-manifold or nonorientable butn≡0, 1, 3 mod 4, then, for anyf, theI[M, N] f is determined completely. WhenN=R 2n−1, the setI[M, N] of regular homotopy classes of all immersions has been enumerated by James and Thomas in [2] and McClendon in [3] forn>3. Applying our results toN=R 2n−1 we obtain their results again, except for the casen≡2 mod 4 andM nonorientable. Whenn=3, McClendon's results cannot be used. Our results include the casesn=3,M orientable or not (for orientableM, I[M, R5] is known by Wu [4]). 相似文献

LetT α be the translationxx+α (mod 1) of [0, 1), α irrational. LetT be the Lebesgue measure-preserving automorphism ofX=[0, 3/2) defined byTx = x + 1 forx∈[0, 1/2),Tx=T α(x−1) forx∈[1,3/2) andTx = T α x forx∈[1/2, 1), i.e.T isT α with a tower of height one built over [0, 1/2). If α is poorly approximable by rationals (there does not exist {p n /q n } with |α−p n /q n |=o(q n −2)) and λ is a measure onX k all of whose one-dimensional marginals are Lebesgue and which is ⊗ i − 1 k T 1 invariant and ergodic (l>0) then λ is a product of off-diagonal measures. This property suffices for many purposes of counterexample construction. A connection is established with the POD (proximal orbit dense) condition in topological dynamics. The single 2 dilation wavelet multipliers in one-dimensional case and single A-dilation (where A is any expansive matrix with integer entries and |detA| = 2) wavelet multipliers in twodimensional case were completely characterized by Wutam Consortium (1998) and Li Z., et al. (2010). But there exist no results on multivariate wavelet multipliers corresponding to integer expansive dilation matrix with the absolute value of determinant not 2 in L 2(ℝ2). In this paper, we choose $2I_2 = \left( {{*{20}c} 2 & 0 \\ 0 & 2 \\ } \right)$2I_2 = \left( {\begin{array}{*{20}c} 2 & 0 \\ 0 & 2 \\ \end{array} } \right) as the dilation matrix and consider the 2I 2-dilation multivariate wavelet Φ = {ψ 1, ψ 2, ψ 3}(which is called a dyadic bivariate wavelet) multipliers. Here we call a measurable function family f = {f 1, f 2, f 3} a dyadic bivariate wavelet multiplier if Y1 = { F - 1 ( f1 [^(y1 )] ),F - 1 ( f2 [^(y2 )] ),F - 1 ( f3 [^(y3 )] ) }\Psi _1 = \left\{ {\mathcal{F}^{ - 1} \left( {f_1 \widehat{\psi _1 }} \right),\mathcal{F}^{ - 1} \left( {f_2 \widehat{\psi _2 }} \right),\mathcal{F}^{ - 1} \left( {f_3 \widehat{\psi _3 }} \right)} \right\} is a dyadic bivariate wavelet for any dyadic bivariate wavelet Φ = {ψ 1, ψ 2, ψ 3}, where [^(f)]\hat f and F −1 denote the Fourier transform and the inverse transform of function f respectively. We study dyadic bivariate wavelet multipliers, and give some conditions for dyadic bivariate wavelet multipliers. We also give concrete forms of linear phases of dyadic MRA bivariate wavelets. 相似文献

Summary For PF2[z] with P(0)=1 and deg(P)≧ 1, let A =A(P) be the unique subset of N (cf. [9]) such that Σn0 p(A,n)zn P(z) mod 2, where p(A,n) is the number of partitions of n with parts in A. To determine the elements of the set A, it is important to consider the sequence σ(A,n) = Σ d|n, dA d, namely, the periodicity of the sequences (σ(A,2kn) mod 2k+1)n1 for all k ≧ 0 which was proved in [3]. In this paper, the values of such sequences will be given in terms of orbits. Moreover, a formula to σ(A,2kn) mod 2k+1 will be established, from which it will be shown that the weight σ(A1,2kzi) mod 2k+1 on the orbit <InlineEquation ID=IE"1"><EquationSource Format="TEX"><![CDATA[<InlineEquation ID=IE"2"><EquationSource Format="TEX"><![CDATA[$]]></EquationSource></InlineEquation>]]></EquationSource></InlineEquation>z_i$ is moved on some other orbit zj when A1 is replaced by A2 with A1= A(P1) and A2= A(P2) P1 and P2 being irreducible in F2[z] of the same odd order. 相似文献

The present contribution deals with the Stokes operator Aq on Lqσ(Ω), 1<q<∞, where Ω is an exterior domain in ℝ2 of class C2. It is proved that Aq admits a bounded H-calculus. This implies the existence of bounded imaginary powers of Aq, which has several important applications. – So far this property was only known for exterior domains in ℝn, n≥3. – In particular, this shows that Aq has maximal regularity on Lqσ(Ω). For the proof the resolvent (λ+Aq)−1 has to be analyzed for |λ|→∞ and λ→0. For large λ this is done using an approximate resolvent based on the results of [3], which were obtained by applying the calculus of pseudodifferential boundary value problems. For small λ we analyze the representation of the resolvent developed in [11] by a potential theoretical method. 相似文献

We prove that the infimum of Newton's functional of minimal resistanceF(u):=∫Ω dx/(1+|▽u(x)|2), where Ω ⊂R 2 is a strictly convex domain, is not attained in a wide class of functions satisfying a single-impact assumption, proposed in [1]. On the other hand, we prove that the infimum is attained in the subclass of radial functions; hence the minimizers are the local minimizers already described in [3]. 相似文献

In a previous paper (Israel J. Math.28 (1977), 313–324), it was shown that for a certain class of cardinals τ,l 1(τ) embeds in a Banach spaceX if and only ifL 1([0, 1]τ) embeds inX *. An extension (to a rather wider class of cardinals) of the basic lemma of that paper is here applied so as to yield an affirmative answer to a question posed by Rosenthal concerning dual ℒ1-spaces. It is shown that ifZ * is a dual Banach space, isomorphic to a complemented subspace of anL 1-space, and κ is the density character ofZ *, thenl 1(κ) embeds inZ *. A corollary of this result is that every injective bidual Banach space is isomorphic tol (κ) for some κ. The second part of this article is devoted to an example, constructed using the continuum hypothesis, of a compact spaceS which carries a homogeneous measure of type ω1, but which is such thatl 11) does not embed in ℰ(S). This shows that the main theorem of the already mentioned paper is not valid in the case τ = ω1. The dual space ℰ(S)* is isometric to , and is a member of a new isomorphism class of dualL 1-spaces. 相似文献

Summary This paper is concerned with the set compound squared-error loss estimation problem. Here, the author obtains Lévy consistent estimate of the empiric distributionG n of the parameters θ1,...,θn for a more general family of retracted distributions on the interval [θ, θ+1) than the uniform on [θ, θ+1) as in R. Fox (1970,Ann. Math. Statist.,41, 1845–1852; 1978,Ann. Statist.,6, 846–853) and exhibits a decision procedure based on with a convergence rateO((n −1 logn)1/4) for the mofified regret uniformly in (θ1, θ2, ..., θn ∈ Ωn with bounded Ω. The author also gives a counterexample to the convergence of the modified regret for Ω=(−∞, ∞). This is part of the author's Ph. D. Thesis at Michigan State University. 相似文献

In this paper, a necessary and sufficient condition of A(a)-acceptability for rational approximations to the functionexp(q) and some sufficient conditions to guarantee A(α)-acceptability of Padé approximations[^(R)]mn (q)\hat R_m^n (q) to the functionexp(q) are given, where a ∈(0,π/2), n≤m,m≥2. Furthermore, it is proved that the condition of A(α)-acceptability of rational approximations toexp(q) is equivalent to the nonnegatively of a real polynomial in interval (−∞,0). Finally, we prove that[^(R)]41 (q)\hat R_4^1 (q) is A(π/3)-acceptable. Based on this conclusion, two A(π/3)-stable multiderivative (hybrid) one-step methods are constructed. 相似文献

New Families in the Stable Homotopy of Spheres Revisited 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
This paper constructs a new family in the stable homotopy of spheres π t −6 S represented by h n g 0γ3E 6 t 2 in the Adams spectral sequence which revisits the b n −1 g 0γ3-elements ∈π t −7 S constructed in [3], where t = 2p n (p− 1) + 6(p 2 + p + 1)(p− 1) and p≥ 7 is a prime, n≥ 4. We consider an Abel equation (*)y’=p(x)y 2 +q(x)y 3 withp(x), q(x) polynomials inx. A center condition for (*) (closely related to the classical center condition for polynomial vector fields on the plane) is thaty 0=y(0)≡y(1) for any solutiony(x) of (*). Folowing [7], we consider a parametric version of this condition: an equation (**)y’=p(x)y 2 +εq(x)y 3 p, q as above, ε ∈ ℂ, is said to have a parametric center, if for any ɛ and for any solutiony(ɛ,x) of (**)y(ɛ, 0)≡y(ɛ, 1).. We give another proof of the fact, shown in [6], that the parametric center condition implies vanishing of all the momentsm k (1), wherem k (x)=∫ 0 x pk (t)q(t)(dt),P(x)=∫ 0 x p(t)dt. We investigate the structure of zeroes ofm k (x) and generalize a “canonical representation” ofm k (x) given in [7]. On this base we prove in some additional cases a composition conjecture, stated in [6, 7] for a parametric center problem. This paper is a follow up of [B1]. It is shown that the sequence of squares {n 2|n=1, 2, ...} contains Λ(p)-subsets of “maximal density”, for any givenp>4. The proof is based on the probabilistic method developed in [B1] and a precise estimate of the Λ(p)-constant for the sequence of squares itself. Analogues of this phenomenon are obtained for other arithmetic sets, such as the sequence ofkth powers {n k |n=1, 2, ...} or the sequence of prime numbers. Sections 2 and 3 of the paper are of independent interest to orthogonal system theory. 相似文献

Our main theorem is about iterated forcing for making the continuum larger than ℵ2. We present a generalization of [2] which deal with oracles for random, (also for other cases and generalities), by replacing ℵ1,ℵ2 by λ, λ + (starting with λ = λ <λ > ℵ1). Well, we demand absolute c.c.c. So we get, e.g. the continuum is λ + but we can get cov(meagre) = λ and we give some applications. As in non-Cohen oracles [2], it is a “partial” countable support iteration but it is c.c.c. 相似文献

Summary Asymptotic properties of the mean integrated squared error (MISE) of kernel estimators of a density function, based on a sampleX 1, …,X n, were obtained by Rosenblatt [4] and Epanechnikov [1] for the case when the densityf and its derivativef′ are continuous. They found, under certain additional regularity conditions, that the optimal choiceh n0 for the scale factorh n=Kn−α is given byh n0=K0n−1/5 withK 0 depending onf and the kernel; they also showed that MISE(h n0)=O(n−4/5) and Epanechnikov [1] found the optimal kernel. In this paper we investigate the robustness of these results to departures from the assumptions concerning the smoothness of the density function. In particular it is shown, under certain regularity conditions, that whenf is continuous but its derivativef′ is not, the optimal value of α in the scale factor becomes 1/4 and MISE(h n0)=O(n−3/4); for the case whenf is not continuous the optimal value of α becomes 1/2 and MISE(h n0)=O(n−1/2). For this last case the optimal kernel is shown to be the double exponential density. Supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada under Grant Nr.
