Coherence properties of primary partially coherent radiations (light, X-rays and particles) elastically scattered from a 3D object consisting of a collection of electrons and nuclei are analyzed in the Fresnel diffraction region and in the far field. The behaviour of the cross-spectral density of the scattered radiation transverse and along to the local direction of propagation is shown to be described by respectively the 3D Fourier and Fresnel transform of the generalized radiance function of a scattering secondary source associated with the object. A relativistic correct expression is derived for the mutual coherence function of radiation which takes account of the dispersive propagation of particle beams in vacuum. An effect of the spatial coherence of radiation on the temporal one is found; in the Fresnel diffraction region, in distinction to the field, both the longitudinal spatial coherence and the spectral width of radiation affect the longitudinal coherence. A solution of the 3D inverse scattering problem for partially coherent radiation is presented. It is shown that squared modulus of the scattering potential and its 2D projections can be reconstructed from measurements of the modulus and phase of the degree of transverse spatial coherence of the scattered radiation. The results provide a theoretical basis for new methods of image formation and structure analysis in X-ray, electron, ion, and neutron optics.  相似文献

The Squeezing and sub-poissonian photon statistics of an optical field are a purely quantum mechanical phenomenon and has been accepted as means of achieving noise below the quantum shot-noise limit. The effect of higher-order squeezing and sub-poissonian nature of an optical field in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) and coherent anti-Stokes hyper Raman scattering (CAHRS) are investigated under short-time approximation. The coupled Heisenberg equations of motion involving real and imaginary parts of the quadrature operators are established and solved under short-time scale. The dependence of squeezing on the number of photons is also investigated. It is also shown that higher-order squeezing allows a much larger fractional noise reduction than lower-order squeezing. The occurrence of amplitude squeezing effects of the radiation field in the fundamental mode is investigated in both the processes. The present work shows that squeezing is greater in CAHRS than the corresponding squeezing in CARS. It is also shown that squeezing is greater in stimulated process than corresponding squeezing in spontaneous interaction. The conditions for obtaining maximum and minimum squeezing are obtained. The photon statistics of the pump mode in the processes has also been investigated and found to be sub-poissonian in nature.  相似文献

We calculate the dependence of the interlayer quasiparticle conductivity, sigma(q), in a Josephson coupled d-wave superconductor on the magnetic field B parallelc and the temperature T. We consider a clean superconductor with resonant impurity scattering and a dominant coherent interlayer tunneling. When pancake vortices in adjacent layers are weakly correlated, at low T the conductivity increases sharply with B over a field scale determined by the impurity scattering, before reaching an extended region of slow linear growth. At high T the conductivity initially decreases and then reaches the same linear regime. For correlated pancakes, sigma(q) increases much more strongly with the applied field.  相似文献

We investigate the effect of pump phase noise on the collective backscattering of light by a cold, collisionless atomic gas. We show that for a partially coherent pump field, the growth rate of the backscattered field is reduced relative to that for a coherent pump, but the backscattered intensity can be increased. Our results demonstrate that fluctuations and noise can play a counterintuitive role in nonlocally coupled many-body systems.  相似文献

Stimulated Compton-Raman scattering and free electron lasers are formulated as parametric (four-photon) or three-wave interaction processes. Manley-Rowe relations and depletable pump equations are derived for both free electron lasers and optical klystron schemes. A process of backward wave oscillation is predicted when a pump radiation field is back scattered off a codirectionally propagating e beam with frequency down conversion. A practicable experiment in the optical regime is proposed to demonstrate this effect.  相似文献

A new Raman process can be used to realize efficient Raman frequency conversion by coherent feedback at low light intensity [Chen B, Zhang K, Bian C L, Qiu C, Yuan C H, Chen L Q, Ou Z Y, and Zhang W P 2013 Opt. Express 21, 10490].We present a theoretical model to describe this enhanced Raman process, termed as cascade correlation-enhanced Raman scattering, which is a Raman process injected by a seeded light field. It is correlated with the initially prepared atomic spin excitation and driven by the quasi-standing-wave pump fields, and the processes are repeated until the Stokes intensities are saturated. Such an enhanced Raman scattering may find applications in quantum information, nonlinear optics, and optical metrology due to its simplicity.  相似文献

We demonstrate significant enhancement of four-wave mixing in coherently driven mercury isotopes to generate vacuum-ultraviolet radiation at 125 nm. The enhancement is accomplished by preparation of the mercury atoms in a state of maximum coherence, i.e. maximum nonlinear-optical polarization, driven by Stark-chirped rapid adiabatic passage (SCRAP). In this technique, a pump laser at 313 nm excites the two-photon transition between the ground state 6s21S0 and the target state 7s 1S0 in mercury. A strong, off-resonant radiation field at 1064 nm generates dynamic Stark shifts. These Stark shifts serve to induce a rapid adiabatic passage process on the two-photon transition. During the process a coherent superposition of the two states is established, which enhances the nonlinear-optical polarization in the medium to the maximum possible value. The maximum coherence permits efficient four-wave mixing of a pump laser and an additional probe laser at 626 nm. The efficiency is further enhanced, as the SCRAP process allows to stimulate the complete set of different mercury isotopes to participate in the frequency conversion process. This enlarges the effective atomic density of the medium. Thus, we observe the generation of vacuum-ultraviolet radiation at 125 nm enhanced by more than one order of magnitude with respect to conventional frequency conversion. Parallel to the frequency conversion process, we monitored the evolution of the population in the medium by laser-induced fluorescence. These data demonstrate efficient coherent population transfer by SCRAP.  相似文献

We construct field equations and generalised Bloch equations for multiphoton processes involving the coherent interaction of a number of distinct electric fields with an arbitrary number of atomic eigenstates, and apply the equations to some physical examples. Transient stimulated hyper-Raman scattering, in the low-conversion regime and far from saturation, has been studied analytically. Assuming that the pump pulse interacts with the medium byn-photon absorption, we find expression for the intensity of the generated Stokes pulse.  相似文献

Inelastic light scattering from an array of Permalloy particles driven by a microwave magnetic field is shown to be a coherent phenomenon in which the scattered radiation is observed only at diffraction angles corresponding to the reciprocal lattice of the array. The results are explained in terms of the phase coherence of the inelastically scattered light by each of the particles.  相似文献

We derive the semiclassical equations governing the response of a solid-state monochromatic laser with saturable absorber driven by an external coherent field. The behavior of the emitted field intensity versus either the driving field intensity or the pump parameter of the amplifying atoms displays the same qualitative behavior. Three possible situations can appear, depending on the values taken by the relevant parameters: for a given external field intensity or pump parameter there can be one, two or three stable values of the emitted field intensity. A stability analysis of the dynamical equations describing the behaviour of an optical cavity wherein a two-photon absorber is driven by two distinct coherent fields reveals that bistability and tristability can occur by the dispersive mechanism. Using a microscopic theory based on the Maxwell-semiconductor Bloch equations, we investigate the feasibility of an optically pumped electrically driven terahertz (THz) quantum-cascade laser as a pathway to room-temperature THz generation. In optical conversion schemes the power conversion efficiency is limited by the Manley-Rowe relation. We circumvent this constraint by incorporating an electrical bias in a four level intersubband scheme, thereby allowing coherent recovery of the optical pump energy. The observed THz radiation is generated through both stimulated emission and automatically phase-matched quantum coherence contributions--making the proposed approach both a promising source for THz radiation and a model system for quantum coherence effects such as lasing without inversion and electromagnetically induced transparency.  相似文献

We study the effects related to two-photon absorption (TPA) in the microspectroscopy of the silicon photonic components based on coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) of femtosecond pulses. With 300-fs pulses of 1.24-μm Cr:forsterite laser radiation delivering pump and probe fields and a frequency-shifted soliton output of a large-mode area photonic-crystal fiber employed as a Stokes field, pronounced TPA effects have been observed in the CARS microspectroscopy of silicon components for pump-pulse intensities exceeding 10 GW/cm2.  相似文献

Superradiative instability developing in a cluster of electrons moving in an undulator field or in an electromagnetic pump wave field is considered. The instability is shown to have no threshold and the instability increment is estimated. The development of instability results in the bunching of particles in the cluster and their coherent radiation at frequencies nearly equal to the frequencies of individual radiation (scattering) of particles. When the translational velocity of the cluster is close to the velocity of light, the frequency of the high-frequency (HF) component of radiation (along the translational motion) may be much higher than the oscillation frequency of particles.  相似文献

The equations of motion of a two-level system and a harmonic oscillator coupled to a dissipative system are discussed; the dissipative system is assumed to consist of a large number of radiation oscillators. Special equations for the determination of the correlation functions of the fluctuation forces are derived under the condition of large time values, for which the atomic system has “forgotten” its initial state. The expectation values of the correlation functions are connected with the damping constant and the population operator of the excited state of the atomic system is in thermal equilibrium. Taking into account the influence of the coherent radiation field on the atomic system, the basic equations for the treatment of the nonstationary Raman scattering by polaritons are derived; the temporal range of validity is discussed. Using a time-dependent “variable” Fourier transformation, the nonstationary time- and spacedependent spectral densities are related to the correlation functions of the fields; here the Wiener-Khintchine theorem is applied in a nonstationary form. The limiting cases of the stationary scattering process as well as the usually introduced correlators of the slowly varying amplitudes are discussed.  相似文献

The magnetic saturation process of iron, nickel and cobalt single-crystal spheres is studied using neutron scattering in a vertical magnetic field. It is observed that upon magnetic saturation, the scattering intensities decrease instead of increasing. This indicates a decreasing coherent scattering with field. The spin precession around the field axis therefore can be assumed to be incoherent along directions transverse to the field. Comparison of the temperature dependence of the spontaneous magnetization measured by zero field NMR on the one hand and by the macroscopic magnetization on the other hand shows that Fe, Ni and Co are three-dimensional (3D) in the zero field ground state but one dimensional (1D) in the magnetically saturated state. The observed decrease in neutron scattering intensity is consistent with this conclusion. The change in dimensionality is associated with a crossover. Our neutron scattering study shows that the crossover occurs at a field that is smaller than the demagnetization field. The dimensionality crossover, therefore, is driven not by the field but by the associated forced magnetostriction.  相似文献

The filtering properties of three-phonon acousto-optical Bragg diffraction for increasing the degree of coherence of a partially coherent optical field are investigated by the example of multiphonon acousto-optical interaction in a TeO2 single crystal. Two possible mechanisms of coherent scattering upon the formation of the highest orders are taken into account. It is shown that the three-phonon interaction is more efficient by at least a factor of two than any mode of one-phonon diffraction realized at the same frequency and the same acousto-optical interaction length. The experimental investigation, using partially coherent radiation of a He-Ne laser (λ = 0.63 μm) diffracted from a transverse acoustic wave propagating in a TeO2 single crystal, on the whole confirmed the basic theoretical foundations.  相似文献
