Halogens possess among the highest electron affinities of elements in the periodic table. Superhalogen molecules with electron affinities higher than those of halogen atoms have been known to form when a metal atom is surrounded with halogen atoms. Recently, it was discovered that a new class of molecules called hyperhalogens with electron affinities higher than those of superhalogens can form when the latter serve as the building block. By use of density functional theory and B3LYP hybrid exchange-correlation functional we show that molecules with electron affinities even higher can be formed by using hyperhalogens as building blocks. We demonstrate this by using Na and Li as metal atoms and F, BF(4), and Na(BF(4))(2) as halogen, superhalogen, and hyperhalogen building blocks. The predicted electron affinities of Na[Na(BF(4))(2)](2) and Li[Li(BF(4))(2)](2) are 9.18 and 9.01 eV, which are, respectively, 0.85 and 0.5 eV higher than those of their hyperhalogen [Na(BF(4))(2) and Li(BF(4))(2)] counterparts.  相似文献

The geometrical and electronic structures of Al(BO(2))(n) and Al(BO(2))(n)(-) (n = 1-4) clusters are computed at different levels of theory including density functional theory (DFT), hybrid DFT, double-hybrid DFT, and second-order perturbation theory. All aluminum borates are found to be quite stable toward the BO(2) and BO(2)(-) loss in the neutral and anion series, respectively. Al(BO(2))(4) belongs to the class of hyperhalogens composed of smaller superhalogens, and should possess a large adiabatic electron affinity (EA(ad)) larger than that of its superhalogen building block BO(2). Indeed, the aluminum tetraborate possesses the EA(ad) of 5.6 eV, which, however, is smaller than the EA(ad) of 7.8 eV of the AlF(4) supehalogen despite BO(2) is more electronegative than F. The EA(ad) decrease in Al(BO(2))(4) is due to the higher thermodynamic stability of Al(BO(2))(4) compared to that of AlF(4). Because of its high EA and thermodynamic stability, Al(BO(2))(4) should be capable of forming salts with electropositive counter ions. We optimized KAl(BO(2))(4) as corresponding to a unit cell of a hypothetical KAl(BO(2))(4) salt and found that specific energy and energy density of such a salt are competitive with those of trinitrotoluol (TNT).  相似文献

Super‐ and hyperhalogens are a class of highly electronegative species whose electron affinities far exceed those of halogen atoms and are important to the chemical industry as oxidizing agents, biocatalysts, and building blocks of salts. Using the well‐known Wade–Mingos rule for describing the stability of closo‐boranes BnHn2? and state‐of‐the‐art theoretical methods, we show that a new class of super‐ and hyperhalogens, guided by this rule, can be formed by tailoring the size and composition of borane derivatives. Unlike conventional superhalogens, in which a central metal atom is surrounded by halogen atoms, the superhalogens formed according to the Wade–Mingos rule do not have to have either halogen or metal atoms. We demonstrate this by using B12H13 and its isoelectronic cluster CB11H12 as examples. We also show that while conventional superhalogens containing alkali atoms require at least two halogen atoms, a single borane‐like moiety is sufficient to give M(B12H12) clusters (M=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) superhalogen properties. In addition, hyperhalogens can be formed by using the above superhalogens as building blocks. Examples include M(B12H13)2 and M(CB11H12)2 (M=Li–Cs). This finding opens the door to an untapped source of superhalogens and weakly coordinating anions with potential applications.  相似文献

The electronic structures of CuBO(2)(-), Cu(BO(2))(2)(-), Cu(2)(BO(2))(-), and Cu(2)(BO(2))(2)(-) clusters were investigated using photoelectron spectroscopy. The measured vertical and adiabatic detachment energies of these clusters revealed unusual properties of Cu(BO(2))(2) cluster. With an electron affinity of 5.07 eV which is larger than that of its BO(2) superhalogen (4.46 eV) building-block, Cu(BO(2))(2) can be classified as a hyperhalogen. Density functional theory based calculations were carried out to identify the ground state geometries and study the electronic structures of these clusters. Cu(BO(2)) and Cu(BO(2))(2) clusters were found to form chainlike structures in both neutral and anionic forms. Cu(2)(BO(2)) and Cu(2)(BO(2))(2) clusters, on the other hand, preferred a chainlike structure in the anionic form but a closed ringlike structure in the neutral form. Equally important, substantial differences between adiabatic detachment energies and electron affinities were found, demonstrating that correct interpretation of the experimental photoelectron spectroscopy data requires theoretical support not only in determining the ground state geometry of neutral and anionic clusters, but also in identifying their low lying isomers.  相似文献

A new family of chloroborate compounds, which was investigated from the viewpoint of rare earth ion activated phosphor materials, have been synthesized by a conventional high temperature solid-state reaction. The crystal structure and thermally stable luminescence of chloroborate phosphors Ba(2)Ln(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu(2+) (Ln = Y, Gd, and Lu) have been reported in this paper. X-ray diffraction studies verify the successful isomorphic substitution for Ln(3+) sites in Ba(2)Ln(BO(3))(2)Cl by other smaller trivalent rare earth ions, such as Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb. The detailed structure information for Ba(2)Ln(BO(3))(2)Cl (Ln = Y, Gd, and Lu) by Rietveld analysis reveals that they all crystallize in a monoclinic P2(1)/m space group. These compounds display interesting and tunable photoluminescence (PL) properties after Eu(2+)-doping. Ba(2)Ln(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu(2+) phosphors exhibit bluish-green/greenish-yellow light with peak wavelengths at 526, 548, and 511 nm under 365 UV light excitation for Ba(2)Y(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu(2+), Ba(2)Gd(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu(2+), and Ba(2)Lu(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu(2+), respectively. Furthermore, they possess a high thermal quenching temperature. With the increase of temperature, the emission bands show blue shifts with broadening bandwidths and slightly decreasing emission intensities. It is expected that this series of chloroborate phosphors can be used in white-light UV-LEDs as a good wavelength-conversion phosphor.  相似文献

Electron affinity (EA) is one of the most important factors that govern reactivity of atoms and molecules. Chlorine, with the highest electron affinity (3.6 eV) of all elements in the periodic table, is a classic example of reactive elements. Over past thirty years, much research has been done to expand the scope of molecules with electron affinities even larger than that of Cl. These molecules, called superhalogens, have the general formula MX(n+1) where M is a metal atom, X is a halogen atom, and n is the valency of the metal. In this paper we explore the potential of pseudohalogens such as CN, which mimic the chemistry of halogens, to serve as building blocks of new superhalogens. Using calculations based on density functional theory, we show that when a central Au atom is surrounded by CN moieties, superhalogens can be created with electron detachment energies as high as 8.4 eV. However, there is a stark contrast between the stability of these superhalogens and that of conventional AuF(n) superhalogens. Whereas AuF(n) complexes are stable up to n = 5 for neutrals and n = 6 for anions, Au(CN)(n) complexes (with CN moieties attached individually) are metastable beyond n = 1 for neutrals and n = 3 for anions. We investigate the nature and origin of these differences. In addition, we elucidate important distinctions between electron affinity (EA) and adiabatic detachment energy (ADE), two terms that are often used synonymously in literature.  相似文献

The computation of the electronic g tensor by two multireference methods is presented and applied to a selection of molecules including CN, BO, AlO, GaO, InO, ZnH, ZnF, O(2), H(2)O(+), O(3) (-), and H(2)CO(+) (group A) as well as TiF(3), CuCl(4) (2-), Cu(NH(3))(4) (2+), and a series of d(1)-MOX(4) (n-) compounds, with M=V, Cr, Mo, Tc, W, Re and X=F, Cl, Br (group B). Two approaches are considered, namely, one in which spin-orbit coupling and the Zeeman effect are included using second-order perturbation theory and another one in which the Zeeman effect is added through first-order degenerate perturbation theory within the ground-state Kramers doublet. The two methods have been implemented into the MOLCAS quantum chemistry software package. The results obtained for the molecules in group A are in good agreement with experiment and with previously reported calculated g values. The results for the molecules in group B vary. While the g values for the d(1) systems are superior to previous theoretical results, those obtained for the d(9) systems are too large compared to the experimental values.  相似文献

We report a photoelectron spectroscopy and computational study of two simple boron oxide species: BO- and BO2-. Vibrationally resolved photoelectron spectra are obtained at several photon energies (355, 266, 193, and 157 nm) for the 10B isotopomers, 10BO- and 10BO2-. In the spectra of 10BO-, we observe transitions to the 2Sigma+ ground state and the 2Pi excited state of 10BO at an excitation energy of 2.96 eV. The electron affinity of 10BO is measured to be 2.510+/-0.015 eV. The vibrational frequencies of the ground states of 10BO- and 10BO and the 2Pi excited state are measured to be 1725+/-40, 1935+/-30, and 1320+/-40 cm-1, respectively. For 10BO2-, we observe transitions to the 2Pig ground state and two excited states of 10BO2, 2Piu, and 2Sigmau+, at excitation energies of 2.26 and 3.04 eV, respectively. The electron affinity of 10BO2 is measured to be 4.46+/-0.03 eV and the symmetrical stretching vibrational frequency of the 2Piu excited state of 10BO2 is measured to be 980+/-30 cm-1. Both density functional and ab initio calculations are performed to elucidate the electronic structure and chemical bonding of the two boron oxide molecules. Comparisons with the isoelectronic AlO- and AlO2- species and the closely related molecules CO, N2, CN-, and CO2 are also discussed.  相似文献

Red-brown crystals of a new mixed alkali oxo sulfato vanadium(V) compound Na(2)K(6)(VO)(2)(SO(4))(7), suitable for X-ray determination, have been obtained from the catalytically important binary molten salt system M(2)S(2)O(7)-V(2)O(5) (M = 80% K and 20% Na). By slow cooling of a mixture with the mole fraction X(V(2)O(5)) = 0.24 from 325 degrees C, i.e., just below the liquidus temperature, to the solidus temperature of around 300 degrees C, a dark reddish amorphous phase was obtained containing crystals of the earlier described V(V)-V(IV) mixed valence compound K(6)(VO)(4)(SO(4))(8) and Na(2)K(6)(VO)(2)(SO(4))(7) described here. This compound crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4(3)2(1)2 (No. 96) with a = 9.540(3) A, c = 29.551(5) A at 20 degrees C and Z = 4. It contains a distorted VO(6) octahedron with a short V-O bond of 1.552(6) A, a long one of 2.276(5) A trans to this, and four equatorial V-O bonds in the range 1.881(6)-1.960(6) A. The deformation of the VO(6) octahedron is less pronounced compared to that of the known oxo sulfato V(V) compounds. Each VO(3+) group is coordinated to five sulfate groups of which two are unidentately coordinated and three are bidentate bridging to neighboring VO(3+) groups. The length of the S-O bonds in the S-O-V bridges of the two unidentately coordinated sulfato groups are 1.551(6) A and 1.568(6) A, respectively, which are unusually long compared to our earlier measurements of sulfate groups in other V(III), V(IV), and V(V) compounds.  相似文献

A new three-dimensional open-framework aluminophosphate (NH(4))(2)Al(4)(PO(4))(4)(HPO(4)).H(2)O (denoted AlPO-CJ19) with an Al/P ratio of 4/5 has been synthesized, using pyridine as the solvent and 2-aminopyridine as the structure-directing agent, under solvothermal conditions. The structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and further characterized by solid-state NMR techniques. The alternation of the Al-centered polyhedra (including AlO(4), AlO(5), and AlO(6)) and the P-centered tetrahedra (including PO(4) and PO(3)OH) results in an interrupted open-framework structure with an eight-membered ring channel along the [100] direction. This is the first aluminophosphate containing three kinds of Al coordinations (AlO(4), AlO(5), and AlO(6)) with all oxygen vertexes connected to framework P atoms. (27)Al MAS NMR, (31)P MAS NMR, and (1)H --> (31)P CPMAS NMR characterizations show that the solid-state NMR techniques are an effective complement to XRD analysis for structure elucidation. Furthermore, all of the possible coordinations of Al and P in the aluminophosphates with an Al/P ratio of 4/5 are summarized. Crystal data: (NH(4))(2)Al(4)(PO(4))(4)(HPO(4))xH(2)O, monoclinic P2(1) (No. 4), a = 5.0568(3) A, b = 21.6211(18) A, c = 8.1724(4) A, beta = 91.361(4) degrees , V = 893.27(10) A(3), Z = 2, R(1) = 0.0456 (I > 2 sigma(I)), and wR(2) = 0.1051 (all data).  相似文献

Five new vanadium selenites, Ca(2)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(3)(H(2)O)(2), Sr(2)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(3), Ba(V(2)O(5))(SeO(3)), Sr(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)), and Pb(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)), have been synthesized and characterized. Their crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The compounds exhibit one- or two-dimensional structures consisting of corner- and edge-shared VO(4), VO(5), VO(6), and SeO(3) polyhedra. Of the reported materials, A(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)) (A = Sr(2+) or Pb(2+)) are noncentrosymmetric (NCS) and polar. Powder second-harmonic generation (SHG) measurements revealed SHG efficiencies of approximately 130 and 150 × α-SiO(2) for Sr(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)) and Pb(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)), respectively. Piezoelectric charge constants of 43 and 53 pm/V, and pyroelectric coefficients of -27 and -42 μC/m(2)·K at 70 °C were obtained for Sr(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)) and Pb(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)), respectively. Frequency dependent polarization measurements confirmed that the materials are not ferroelectric, that is, the observed polarization cannot be reversed. In addition, the lone-pair on the Se(4+) cation may be considered as stereo-active consistent with calculations. For all of the reported materials, infrared, UV-vis, thermogravimetric, and differential thermal analysis measurements were performed. Crystal data: Ca(2)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(3)(H(2)O)(2), orthorhombic, space group Pnma (No. 62), a = 7.827(4) ?, b = 16.764(5) ?, c = 9.679(5) ?, V = 1270.1(9) ?(3), and Z = 4; Sr(2)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(3), monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c (No. 12), a = 14.739(13) ?, b = 9.788(8) ?, c = 8.440(7) ?, β = 96.881(11)°, V = 1208.8(18) ?(3), and Z = 4; Ba(V(2)O(5))(SeO(3)), orthorhombic, space group Pnma (No. 62), a = 13.9287(7) ?, b = 5.3787(3) ?, c = 8.9853(5) ?, V = 673.16(6) ?(3), and Z = 4; Sr(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)), orthorhombic, space group Fdd2 (No. 43), a = 25.161(3) ?, b = 12.1579(15) ?, c = 12.8592(16) ?, V = 3933.7(8) ?(3), and Z = 8; Pb(4)(VO(2))(2)(SeO(3))(4)(Se(2)O(5)), orthorhombic, space group Fdd2 (No. 43), a = 25.029(2) ?, b = 12.2147(10) ?, c = 13.0154(10) ?, V = 3979.1(6) ?(3), and Z = 8.  相似文献

The hydrothermal syntheses of a family of new alkali-metal/ammonium vanadium(V) methylphosphonates, M(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2) (M = K, NH(4), Rb, Tl), are described. The crystal structures of K(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2) and NH(4)(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2) have been determined from single-crystal X-ray data. Crystal data: K(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2), M(r) = 475.93, trigonal, R32 (No. 155), a = 7.139(3) ?, c = 19.109(5) ?, Z = 3; NH(4)(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2), M(r) = 454.87, trigonal, R32 (No. 155), a = 7.150(3) ?, c = 19.459(5) ?, Z = 3. These isostructural, noncentrosymmetric phases are built up from hexagonal tungsten oxide (HTO) like sheets of vertex-sharing VO(6) octahedra, capped on both sides of the V/O sheets by PCH(3) entities (as [PO(3)CH(3)](2-) methylphosphonate groups). In both phases, the vanadium octahedra display a distinctive two short + two intermediate + two long V-O bond distance distribution within the VO(6) unit. Interlayer potassium or ammonium cations provide charge balance for the anionic (VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2) sheets. Powder X-ray, TGA, IR, and Raman data for these phases are reported and discussed. The structures of K(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2) and NH(4)(VO(2))(3)(PO(3)CH(3))(2) are compared and contrasted with related layered phases based on the HTO motif.  相似文献

A novel red-emitting Ba(2)Tb(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu phosphor possessing a broad excitation band in the near-ultraviolet (n-UV) region was synthesized by the solid-state reaction. Versatile Ba(2)Tb(BO(3))(2)Cl compound has a rigid open framework, which can offer two types of sites for various valence's cations to occupy, and the coexistence of Eu(2+)/Eu(3+) and the red-emitting luminescence from Eu(3+) with the aid of efficient energy transfer of Eu(2+)-Eu(3+)(Tb(3+)) and Tb(3+)-Eu(3+) have been investigated. Ba(2)Tb(BO(3))(2)Cl emits green emission with the main peak around 543 nm, which originates from (5)D(4) → (7)F(5) transition of Tb(3+). Ba(2)Tb(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu shows bright red emission from Eu(3+) with peaks around 594, 612, and 624 nm under n-UV excitation (350-420 nm). The existence of Eu(2+) can be testified by the broad-band excitation spectrum, UV-vis reflectance spectrum, X-ray photoelectron spectrum, and Eu L(3)-edge X-ray absorption spectrum. Decay time and time-resolved luminescence measurements indicated that the interesting luminescence behavior should be ascribed to efficient energy transfer of Eu(2+)-Eu(3+)(Tb(3+)) and Tb(3+)-Eu(3+) in Ba(2)Tb(BO(3))(2)Cl:Eu phosphors.  相似文献

A mixed borate and carbonate chloride Ba(2)(BO(3))(1-x)(CO(3))(x)Cl(1+x) was obtained by spontaneous crystallization from a high-temperature melt in open air. It crystallizes in the trigonal crystal system with space group of P3m?1 and lattice constants of a = 5.4708(8) ? and c = 10.640(2) ?. The structure can be viewed as an intergrowth of trigonal Ba(2)Mg(BO(3))(2) (001) slab and (111) slab of the cubic fluorite BaCl(2). During Fourier analysis of the single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, additional electron density was found locating at 1b (0, 0, 1/2) site and attributed to chlorine surplus, which was confirmed by chemical titration. Charge balance of the compound was found, unexpectedly in an acidic borate containing high-temperature melt, by partial CO(3)(2-) group substituting the BO(3)(3-) group. The existence of CO(3)(2-) anion in the crystal was detected by thermogravimetry-mass spectrum analysis and Raman spectrum. The transmittance spectrum shows that the crystal is transparent from ultraviolet to infrared with short-wavelength absorption edge at about 220 nm.  相似文献

Systematic explorations of new phases in the Ln(III)-V(V)-Se(IV)-O systems by hydrothermal syntheses led to four new quaternary compounds, namely, Nd(2)(V(V)(2)O(4))(SeO(3))(4)·H(2)O (1), Ln(V(V)O(2))(SeO(3))(2) (Ln = Eu 2, Gd 3, Tb 4). The structure of Nd(2)(V(V)(2)O(4))(SeO(3))(4)·H(2)O features a 3D framework composed of the 2D layers of [N d(SeO(3))](+) bridged by the infinite [VO(2)(SeO(3))](-) chains with the lattice water molecules located at the 6-membered ring tunnels formed. The structure of Ln(V(V)O(2))(SeO(3))(2) (Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb) also features a 3D framework composed of 2D layers of [Ln(SeO(3))](+) bridged by the infinite [(VO(2))(SeO(3))](-) double chains. The 1D vanadium oxide selenite chain of 1 differs significantly from those in compounds 2-4 in terms of the coordination modes of the selenite groups and the connectivities between neighbouring VO(6) octahedra. Luminescent and magnetic properties of these compounds were also measured.  相似文献

No organic molecules with electron affinities near or above those of halogens are known. We show for the first time that aromaticity rules can be used to design molecules with electron affinities far exceeding those of halogen atoms either by tailoring the ligands of cyclopentadienyl or by multiple benzoannulations of cyclopentadienyl in conjunction with the substitution of CH groups with isoelectronic N atoms. Results based on density functional theory revealed that the electron affinities of some of these organic molecules can reach as high as 5.59 eV, thus opening the door to new class of superhalogens that contain neither a metal nor a halogen atom.  相似文献

A series of samples with the composition Ca(1)(-)(x)Na(2)(x)Al(2)B(2)O(7) (0 < x < or = 1) was investigated and a hexagonal structure with unusually large range of homogeneity (at least from x = 0.01 to 0.95) was revealed. The hexagonal phase consists of [Al(2)B(2)O(7)](infinity)(2)(-) lamellae stacked along the c axis, as in CaAl(2)B(2)O(7) and Na(2)Al(2)B(2)O(7). Nevertheless, the configuration and stacking sequence of the [Al(2)B(2)O(7)](infinity)(2)(-) lamellae are different in these three structures. In the hexagonal structure of Ca(1)(-)(x)()Na(2)(x)()Al(2)B(2)O(7), Ca and half Na cations (Na1) statistically occupy the same crystallographic site which is located between the [Al(2)B(2)O(7)](infinity)(2)(-) lamellae, the other half Na cations (Na2) distribute in the planes bisecting the [Al(2)B(2)O(7)](infinity)(2)(-) lamellae. Depending on the composition, the site occupation factor of Na2 site can vary in the same range as x, leading to a tunable density of Na(+) vacancies in the structure. The AlO(4) tetrahedra and BO(3) triangles in the structure tilt in appropriate ways to improve the bond valence sum of Na2 cations which are not sufficiently bonded to the anions.  相似文献

The complexes, [VO(O(2))(pa)(2)]ClO(4).3H(2)O (1), [VO(O(2))(pa)(2)][VO(O(2))(2)(pa)].3H(2)O (2), [VO(O(2))(pa)(2)][VO(O(2))(ada)].2H(2)O (3) and [VO(O(2))(pa)(pca)].H(2)O (4)[pa = picolinamide, ada = carbamoylmethyliminodiacetate(2-) and pca = 2-pyrazinecarboxylate(1-)], were synthesized. 2 and 3 are new types of peroxovanadium complexes: monoperoxovanadium diperoxovanadate (2) and monoperoxovanadium monoperoxovanadate (3). The complexes were characterized by chemical analysis and IR spectroscopy, and 1, 3 and 4 also by X-ray analysis. The structure of 1 is disordered, with alternating positions of the oxo and peroxo ligands. The peroxo oxygen atoms, O(p), in 1 are involved in weak hydrogen bonds with water molecules and close intramolecular C-HO...(p) bonds [d(HO(p)) approximately 2.0 A]. The supramolecular structure of 1 is formed by a network of hydrogen bonds and strong attractive intermolecular pi-pi interactions between the pyridine rings. The supramolecular architecture in 4 is constructed by (N,O)-H...O hydrogen bonds between the neutral complex molecules and water of crystallization. The peroxo oxygen atoms in 4 form intramolecular C-H...O(p) bonds [d(H...O(p))= 2.303 A]. The pa and pca ligands are ON coordinated via the oxygen atoms of the C(NH(2))=O and COO(-) groups, respectively, and nitrogen atoms of the heterocyclic rings, and ada as a tetradentate O(3)N ligand. The thermal analysis of 4 showed that the loss of water of crystallization and the active oxygen release (T(min)/ degrees C 82, T(max)/degrees C 165) are, under given conditions, individual processes separated by the temperature interval 90-132 degrees C. The solution structures and stability were studied by UV-VIS and (51)V NMR spectroscopies.  相似文献
