Frequency modulated semiconductor laser signals are demodulated by optical heterodyne detection using an independently temperature stabilised semiconductor laser local oscillator and a square law detector followed by electrical frequency discrimination circuitry. Beat frequency stability of the free-running semiconductor laser transmitter and local oscillator and characteristics of direct frequency modulation and optical heterodyne detection are delineated.  相似文献

Performance analysis of multibranch switched diversity systems   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We investigate the performance of multibranch switched diversity systems. Specifically, we first derive generic formulas for the cumulative distribution function, probability density function, and moment-generating function of the combined signal power for both switch-and-stay combining (SSC) and switch-and-examine combining (SEC) schemes. We then capitalize on these expressions to obtain closed-form expressions for the outage probability and average error rate for various practical communication scenarios of interest. As a byproduct of our analysis we prove that for SSC with identically distributed and uniformly correlated branches, increasing the number of branches to more than two does not improve the performance, but the performance can be different in the case the branches are not identically distributed and/or not uniformly correlated. We also show that, in general, the SEC performance improves with additional branches. The mathematical formalism is illustrated with a number of selected numerical examples.  相似文献

The emission frequency of a single-mode GaAlAs laser diode was locked to a Fabry-Perot interferometer reference by using a high sensitivity and fast response feedback loop controlling the injection current. Long-term fluctuations have been reduced to 8 MHz with a short-term jitter less than 1.5 MHz. These figures are consistent with the requirements of heterodyne communication systems above 140 Mbit/s.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of laser wavelength instability, polarization fading and phase fluctuation on local heterodyne detection wavelength scanning Brillouin optical time domain reflectometer (WS-BOTDR) is theoretically analyzed, and a local heterodyne detection WS-BOTDR system is built for experimental verification. The experimental results show that with the increase of sensing distance, the adverse effect of laser wavelength instability, polarization fading and phase fluctuation on local heterodyne detection WS-BOTDR is gradually aggravated, which will lead to the broadening and distortion of the wavelength power spectrum (WPS), resulting in large errors in demodulated Brillouin central wavelength (BCW) and temperature. The average temperature measurement errors at the positions of 1 km, 5 km, 9 km non-heating section and 9.45 km heating section are 1.76 °C, 3.42 °C, 3.89° C and 4.3 °C, respectively.  相似文献

A detailed theoretical analysis is given of the impact of finite frequency deviation on the sensitivity of dual-filter heterodyne frequency-shift-keying (FSK) lightwave systems. The analysis provides closed-form signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) results for estimating the bit-error-ratio (BER) performance of the system. These closed-form results provide an insight into the impact of finite frequency deviation 2Δfd, laser linewidth Δν, bit rate Rb, and IF filter bandwidths on the system performance. Simulation results indicate that the accuracy of the approximate theory presented is within 1 dB for linewidths up to 22% when BER=10-9. It is shown that there is a well-defined relationship between the choice of frequency deviation and the tolerable amount of laser phase noise. The sensitivity degradation can be very severe for a fixed linewidth as the frequency deviation gets smaller  相似文献

The development of a 750-GHz Schottky varactor diode frequency tripler having a measured output power and efficiency of more than 120 μW and 0.8% at a frequency of 803 GHz is described. The output powers and efficiencies are the highest reported for this frequency. The 750-GHz tripler mount is analyzed and optimized using a scaled model of the mount. The design and receiver sensitivity of a heterodyne detection system using analogue optical frequency modulation is examined for the transmission of a single baseband colour video signal. After transmission over 30 km of cabled monomode fibre, receiver sensitivity was measured to be ?70.3 dBm for a 53 dB unified weighted video SNR.  相似文献

A new baseband signal processing method for compensating frequency shift in differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) systems is introduced. This method consists of a signal processor for the initial acquisition of frequency shift and a simple adaptive equalizer for tracking. The former is based on the observation that the effect of frequency shift can be eliminated by using boundary values of the received baseband signal between symbol periods. The latter is a single tap equalizer employing the least mean-square (LMS) adaptation algorithm. Computer simulation results demonstrate that the proposed frequency shift compensation technique outperforms existing methods, and works well for a wide range of frequency shift  相似文献

A simple theoretical analysis for evaluating the performance of linecoded optical frequency shift keying (FSK) systems is presented. It accounts for the combined effects of laser phase noise, receiver noise, and nonuniform BM response of distributed feedback lasers. A close form expression for the random frequency noise due to the combined effect of laser nonuniform FM response and phase noise is developed. The analysis is carried out for three different linecoding schemes, i.e., alternate mark inversion, Miller code or delay modulation, and Manchester coding, to investigate the efficacy of the line coding schemes in counteracting the effect of nonflat FM response. Theoretical and simulation results show that the sensitivities of linecoded FSK systems are within 0.7 and 0.4 dB for single-branch and dual-branch detection, respectively, at a bit error probability of 10-9 relative to the random non-return to zero FSK with flat FM response  相似文献

High frequency heterodyne spectroscopy with current-modulated diode lasers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The use of current-modulated semiconductor lasers for optical heterodyne spectroscopy has been investigated at modulation frequencies up to 2.6 GHz. The current modulation produces a simultaneous frequency and amplitude modulation of the laser output. A characteristic heterodyne spectrum occurs when the modulated laser probes a narrow absorption line. In order to analyze the measured spectra, a complete line shape theory has been derived for heterodyne spectroscopy with frequency- and amplitude-modulated laser light. The results show how the obtained signals depend on the modulation frequency and the phase difference between the frequency and the amplitude modulation. The measurement technique permits investigation of the FM-AM phase difference of current-modulated semiconductor lasers.  相似文献

A single-channel single-polarisation all-fibre-optic transmission system at 830 nm wavelength with transmitter laser and a heterodyne receiver with local laser, monomode fibre coupler and APD mixer has been set up. The intermediate frequency was 1.5 GHz. 8.4 Mbit/s digital signals were transmitted over 280 m of single-polarisation fibre by a subcarrier modulated baseband method.  相似文献

The impact of finite intermediate frequency (IF) on the performance of heterodyne ASK lightwave systems is examined and quantified in the presence of laser phase noise and shot noise. For negligible linewidths, it is shown that certain finite choices of IF (R b,3Rb/2,2Rb,5Rb/2, etc.) lead to the same ideal bit-error-rate (BER) performance as infinite choices of IF. Results indicate that for negligible linewidths the worst case sensitivity penalty is 0.9 dB for proper heterodyne detection and occurs when fIF=1.25 Rb. For nonnegligible linewidths (e.g., when ΔνT⩾0.04) the sensitivity penalty is always less than 0.9 dB for finite choices of IF. The analysis presented does lead to a closed-form signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) expression at the decision gate of the receiver which can readily be used for BER and sensitivity penalty computations. The SNR expression provided includes all the key system parameters of interest such as system bit rate (Rb), the peak IF SNR (ξ), laser linewidth (Δν), and the IF filter expansion factor (α). The findings of this work suggest that the number of channels in a multichannel heterodyne ASK lightwave system can be increased substantially by properly choosing a small value for the IF at the expense of a small penalty <1 dB. On the negative side, IF frequency stabilization becomes a more critical requirement in multichannel systems employing small values of IF  相似文献

频率差可调的加力型频率分裂氦氖激光器具有广阔的应用前景,目前鲜有关于该激光器频率差热漂移的具体报道,但它是一个重要的应用指标,特别是在光刻机用干涉仪中需要重点关注。采用弹性加力法对双折射-塞曼氦氖双频激光器进行频率差赋值,详细观察了频率差在开机漂变阶段、过渡阶段及稳定阶段状态的变化过程, 给出了频率差对开机时间的曲线。实验表明稳频作用下的频率差的稳定性优于23 kHz/h,重复性优于130 kHz。此外还就不同结构或材料的弹性加力元件对频率差的影响进行了对比分析,实验表明系统温度分布的均匀性和稳定性对频率差热漂移起重要作用。  相似文献

Using the nonlinear second-order phase-locked loop (PLL) model the performance of the heterodyne coherent optical phase shift keying (PSK) systems with Costas loop in multichannel environment is considered in this paper for the first time. The shot noise of the corresponding photodiodes and adjacent channel interferences are described through the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in the loop bandwidth, while the laser phase noise is described through the normalized frequency fluctuations instead of the phase ones. The theory and results presented in this paper can be applied when analyzing and optimizing the performance in the region where the linear PLL model is not enough good  相似文献

A photovoltaic (PV) pumping system using a switched reluctance motor (SRM) is investigated in this work. the motor is supplied by a DC voltage through a simple switching circuit. This drive circuit is much simpler than the normal DC/AC inverter required to supply an induction motor. the efficiency of the SRM is considerably higher than that of equivalent DC or induction motors. In addition, because of its simple construction, the SRM is cheaper than these conventional drives. These advantages give the proposed system higher efficiency and lower cost compared with other systems. In this paper, which has a substantial tutorial content, a design example is studied in detail to explore the advantages of PV pumping systems based on the new drive. Study of the performance of the proposed system showed that the operating efficiency of the motor is about 85% during most of its working time. the matching efficiency between the PV array and the proposed system approaches 95%. the major part of the losses takes place in the pump and the riser pipes; this loss represents one-third of the total available energy.  相似文献

A theoretical analysis of the automatic frequency control (AFC) in binary DPSK and FSK heterodyne optical receivers is presented, and its impact on the system performance is evaluated. The effects of the shot-noise AM/FM conversion in the frequency discriminator are analyzed. It is shown that with commercial DFB lasers a common analysis of the frequency control loop can be done for the three modulations considered. Design guidelines are given that account for the presence of the AFC loop by properly using some performance results derived in the assumption of perfect frequency tracking  相似文献

In this paper, the fault detection problem is investigated for a class of discrete-time switched linear systems with time-varying delays. The main purpose is to design a fault detection filter such that, for all unknown inputs, control inputs and time delays, the estimation error between the residual and fault is minimized in an exponential way. The fault detection problem is converted into an exponential H filtering problem. By using a newly constructed Lyapunov functional and the average dwell time scheme, a novel delay-dependent sufficient condition for the solvability of this problem is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). A numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed theoretical results.  相似文献
