FTIR absorption spectra of water-containing ethene:Ar matrices, with compositions of ethene up to 1:10 ethene:Ar, have been recorded. Systematically increasing the concentration of ethene reveals features in the spectra consistent with the known 1:1 ethene:water complex, which subsequently disappear on further increase in ethene concentration. At high concentrations of ethene, new features are observed at 3669 and 3585 cm(-1), which are red-shifted with respect to matrix-isolated nu(3) and nu(1) O-H stretching modes of water and the 1:1 ethene:water complex. These shifts are consistent with a pi...H interaction of a 2:1 ethene:water complex of the form (C(2)H(4)...H-O-H...C(2)H(4)). The analogous (C(2)D(4))(2)H(2)O complex shows little shifting from positions associated with (C(2)H(4))(2)H(2)O, while the (C(2)H(4))(2)D(2)O isotopomer shows large shifts to 2722.3 and 2617.2 cm(-1), having identical nu(3)(H(2)O)/nu(3)(D(2)O) and nu(1)(H(2)O)/nu(1)(D(2)O) values when compared with monomeric water isotopomers. Features at 3626.1 and 2666.2 cm(-1) are also observed and are attributed to (C(2)H(4))(2)HDO. DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) level for each isotopomer are presented, and the predicted vibrational frequencies are directly compared with experimental values. The interaction energy for the formation of the 2:1 ethene:water complex from the 1:1 ethene:water complex is also presented.  相似文献

The tetranuclear manganese complex [Mn(IV)(4)O(5)(terpy)(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(6) (1; terpy = 2,2':6',2″-terpyridine) gives catalytic water oxidation in aqueous solution, as determined by electrochemistry and GC-MS. Complex 1 also exhibits catalytic water oxidation when adsorbed on kaolin clay, with Ce(IV) as the primary oxidant. The redox intermediates of complex 1 adsorbed on kaolin clay upon addition of Ce(IV) have been characterized by using diffuse reflectance UV/visible and EPR spectroscopy. One of the products in the reaction on kaolin clay is Mn(III), as determined by parallel-mode EPR spectroscopic studies. When 1 is oxidized in aqueous solution with Ce(IV), the reaction intermediates are unstable and decompose to form Mn(II), detected by EPR spectroscopy, and MnO(2). DFT calculations show that the oxygen in the mono-μ-oxo bridge, rather than Mn(IV), is oxidized after an electron is removed from the Mn(IV,IV,IV,IV) tetramer. On the basis of the calculations, the formation of O(2) is proposed to occur by reaction of water with an electrophilic manganese-bound oxyl radical species, (?)O-Mn(2)(IV/IV), produced during the oxidation of the tetramer. This study demonstrates that [Mn(IV)(4)O(5)(terpy)(4)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(6) may be relevant for understanding the role of the Mn tetramer in photosystem II.  相似文献

Pyridine containing water clusters, H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n), have been studied both experimentally by a quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometer and by quantum chemical calculations. In the experiments, H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n) with m = 1-4 and n = 0-80 are observed. For the cluster distributions observed, there are no magic numbers, neither in the abundance spectra, nor in the evaporation spectra from size selected clusters. Experiments with size-selected clusters H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n), with m = 0-3, reacting with D(2)O at a center-of-mass energy of 0.1 eV were also performed. The cross-sections for H/D isotope exchange depend mainly on the number of water molecules in the cluster and not on the number of pyridine molecules. Clusters having only one pyridine molecule undergo D(2)O/H(2)O ligand exchange, while H(+)(pyridine)(m)(H(2)O)(n), with m = 2, 3, exhibit significant H/D scrambling. These results are rationalized by quantum chemical calculations (B3LYP and MP2) for H(+)(pyridine)(1)(H(2)O)(n) and H(+)(pyridine)(2)(H(2)O)(n), with n = 1-6. In clusters containing one pyridine, the water molecules form an interconnected network of hydrogen bonds associated with the pyridinium ion via a single hydrogen bond. For clusters containing two pyridines, the two pyridine molecules are completely separated by the water molecules, with each pyridine being positioned diametrically opposite within the cluster. In agreement with experimental observations, these calculations suggest a "see-saw mechanism" for pendular proton transfer between the two pyridines in H(+)(pyridine)(2)(H(2)O)(n) clusters.  相似文献

Intramolecular charge-transfer reaction in chiral (S) 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-3-isoquinoline methanol (THIQM) has been investigated in the condensed phase and in jet-cooled conditions by means of laser-induced fluorescence, dispersed emission, resonance-enhanced two-photon ionization, and IR-UV double resonance experiments, as well as quantum chemical calculations. In the condensed phase, THIQM only shows local emission in nonpolar and protic solvents and dual emission in aprotic polar solvents, where the solvent-polarity dependent Stokes shifted emission is ascribed to a state involving charge transfer from the nitrogen lone pair to the benzene π-cloud. Ab initio calculations reveal two low-energy conformers, which are observed in jet-cooled conditions. In the most stable conformer, THIQM(I), the CH(2)OH substituent acts as a hydrogen bond donor to the nitrogen lone pair in the equatorial position, while the second most stable conformer, THIQM(II), corresponds to the opposite NH···O hydrogen bond, with the nitrogen lone pair in the axial position. The two low-energy jet-cooled conformers of THIQM evidenced from the laser-induced fluorescence and dispersed emission spectra only show structured local emission. Complexes with usual solvents reproduce the condensed phase properties. The jet-cooled complex with aprotic polar solvent acetonitrile shows both local emission and charge transfer emission as observed in solution. The jet-cooled hydrate mainly shows local emission due to the unavailability of the nitrogen lone pair through intermolecular hydrogen bonding.  相似文献

We investigated the reactions between cobalt-oxides and water molecules using photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional calculations. It has been confirmed by both experimental observation and theoretical calculations that dihydroxide anions, Co(m)(OH)(2)(-) (m = 1-3), were formed when Co(m)O(-) clusters interact with the first water molecule. Addition of more water molecules produced solvated dihydroxide anions, Co(m)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)(n)(-) (m = 1-3). Hydrated dihydroxide anions, Co(m)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)(n)(-), are more stable than their corresponding hydrated metal-oxide anions, Co(m)O(H(2)O)(n+1)(-).  相似文献

The geometry and electronic structure of cis-[Ru(II)(bpy)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) and its higher oxidation state species up formally to Ru(VI) have been studied by means of UV-vis, EPR, XAS, and DFT and CASSCF/CASPT2 calculations. DFT calculations of the molecular structures of these species show that, as the oxidation state increases, the Ru-O bond distance decreases, indicating increased degrees of Ru-O multiple bonding. In addition, the O-Ru-O valence bond angle increases as the oxidation state increases. EPR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations indicate that low-spin configurations are favored for all oxidation states. Thus, cis-[Ru(IV)(bpy)(2)(OH)(2)](2+) (d(4)) has a singlet ground state and is EPR-silent at low temperatures, while cis-[Ru(V)(bpy)(2)(O)(OH)](2+) (d(3)) has a doublet ground state. XAS spectroscopy of higher oxidation state species and DFT calculations further illuminate the electronic structures of these complexes, particularly with respect to the covalent character of the O-Ru-O fragment. In addition, the photochemical isomerization of cis-[Ru(II)(bpy)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) to its trans-[Ru(II)(bpy)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](2+) isomer has been fully characterized through quantum chemical calculations. The excited-state process is predicted to involve decoordination of one aqua ligand, which leads to a coordinatively unsaturated complex that undergoes structural rearrangement followed by recoordination of water to yield the trans isomer.  相似文献

Aqueous trivalent aluminum (Al) ions and their oligomers play important roles in diverse areas, such as environmental sciences and medicine. The geometries of octahedral Al(H(2)O)(6)(3+) and tetrahedral Al(OH)(4)(-) species have been studied extensively. However, structures of intermediate hydrolysis products of the Al(III) ion, such as the penta-coordinated Al(OH)(2+) species, which exists at pH values ranging from 3.0 to 4.3, and their mode of formation have been poorly understood. Here, we present that a trigonal bipyramidal Al(OH)(H(2)O)(4)(2+) structure is formed in aqueous solution and how this monomeric species dimerizes to a dinuclear [(H(2)O)(4)Al(OH)(2)Al(H(2)O)(4)](4+) complex in aqueous solution. The Gibbs free energy change calculations indicate that the formation of the dinuclear complex is preferred over the existence of two single trigonal bipyramidal Al(OH)(H(2)O)(4)(2+) species in aqueous solution. This study captures the solution dynamics and proton transfer in the oligomerization reactions of penta-coordinated Al(OH)(2+) species in aqueous solution.  相似文献

Upon excitation of Cl(-)(H(2)O)(3) and I(-)(H(2)O)(3) clusters, the electron transfers from the anionic precursor to the solvent, and then the excess electron is stabilized by polar solvent molecules. This process has been investigated using ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations of excited states of Cl(-)(H(2)O)(3) and I(-)(H(2)O)(3) clusters. The AIMD simulation results of Cl(-)(H(2)O)(3) and I(-)(H(2)O)(3) are compared, and they are found to be similar. Because the role of the halogen atom in the photoexcitation mechanism is controversial, we also carried out AIMD simulations for the ground-state bare excess electron -- water trimer [e(-)(H(2)O)(3)] at 300 K, the results of which are similar to those for the excited state of X(-)(H(2)O)(3) with zero kinetic energy at the initial excitation. This indicates that the rearrangement of the complex is closely related to that of e(-)(H(2)O)(3), whereas the role of the halide anion is not as important.  相似文献

The kinetics of reaction between the [Mo(3)M'S(4)(H(2)O)(10)](4+) clusters (M' = Pd, Ni) and H(3)PO(3) has been studied in 4.0 M Hpts/Lipts (pts(-) = p-toluenesulfonate). For both complexes there is an initial kinetic step with small absorbance changes that corresponds to substitution of the water coordinated to Pd by a molecule of tetrahedral H(3)PO(3). For the Pd complex, tautomerization of H(3)PO(3) occurs in a slower kinetic step with much larger absorbance changes; it leads to formation of [Mo(3)Pd(pyr-H(3)PO(3))S(4)(H(2)O)(9)](4+) in which H(3)PO(3) adopts a pyramidal structure, but the process is not as favored as for H(3)PO(2). The kinetics of this second step is independent of the concentration of H(3)PO(3) but dependent on the concentration of Hpts on the supporting electrolyte. For the Ni complex, the second step is severely hindered and its kinetics could not be studied. DFT calculations indicate that tautomerization of H(3)PO(3) is expected to be less favoured than that of H(3)PO(2), both processes being less favored at the Ni cluster than at its Pd analogue. With regard to the tautomerization mechanism, the calculations indicate that the mechanism previously proposed for H(3)PO(2) can be the same for H(3)PO(3), although the initial H-shift can also occur through a protonation-deprotonation sequence with participation of external protons instead of a second molecule of the phosphorus acid. TD-DFT studies have been also carried out to understand the similarity between the spectra of the starting complex and the reaction intermediate formed in the first kinetic step as well as the large spectral changes associated to the tautomerization process. Although it contains contributions from several transitions, the intense band observed for clusters containing coordinated pyr-H(3)PO(3) involves essentially ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) transitions.  相似文献

The complex formation in water between the stable tricarbonyltriaqua fac-[(CO)(3)Re(H(2)O)(3)](+) (1) complex and N- and S-donor ligands has been studied by high-pressure (1)H NMR. Rate and equilibrium constants for the formation of [(CO)(3)Re(Pyz)(H(2)O)(2)](+), [(CO)(3)(H(2)O)(2)Re(mu-Pyz)Re(H(2)O)(2)(CO)(3)](2+), [(CO)(3)Re(THT)(H(2)O)(2)](+), and [(CO)(3)Re(DMS)(n)()(H(2)O)(3-n)](+) (n = 1-3) (Pyz = pyrazine, THT = tetrahydrothiophene, DMS = dimethyl sulfide) have been determined and are in accord with previous results (Salignac, B.; Grundler, P. V.; Cayemittes, S.; Frey, U.; Scopelliti, R.; Merbach, A. E.; Hedinger, R.; Hegetschweiler, K.; Alberto, R.; Prinz, U.; Raabe, G.; K?lle, U.; Hall, S. Inorg. Chem. 2003, 42, 3516). The calculated interchange rate constant k(1)' (Eigen-Wilkins mechanism) increases from the hard O- and N-donors to the soft S-donors, as exemplified by the following series: TFA (trifluoroacetate) (k(1)' = 2.9 x 10(-3) s(-1)) < Br(-) < CH(3)CN < Pyz < THT < DMS < TU (thiourea) (k(1)' = 41.5 x 10(-3) s(-1)). On the other hand, values remain close to that of water exchange k(ex) on 1 (k(ex) = 6.3 x 10(-3) s(-1)). Thus, an I(d) mechanism was assigned, suggesting however the possibility of a slight deviation toward an associatively activated mechanism with the S-donor ligands. Activation volumes determined by high-pressure NMR, for Pyz as Delta V(++)(f,1) = +5.4 +/- 1.5, Delta V(++)(r,1) = +7.9 +/- 1.2 cm(3) mol(-)(1), for THT as Delta V(++)(f,1) = -6.6 +/- 1, Delta V(++)(r,1) = -6.2 +/- 1 cm(3) mol(-1), and for DMS as Delta V(++)(f,1) = -12 +/- 1, Delta V(++)(r,1) = -10 +/- 2 cm(3) mol(-1) revealed the ambivalent character of 1 toward water substitution. Hence, these findings are interpreted as a gradual changeover of the reaction mechanism from a dissociatively activated one (I(d)), with the hard O- and N-donor ligands, to an associatively activated one (I(a)), with the soft S-donor ligands.  相似文献

Seven-coordinate manganese(II) complexes [Mn(L)(H2O)2]2+, where L represents an equatorial pentadentate macrocyclic ligand with five nitrogen donor atoms, were studied with regard to their acid-base properties, water-exchange rate constants, and corresponding activation parameters (DeltaH, DeltaS, and DeltaV). Three of the studied complexes without imine bonds in the macrocyclic ligand are proven superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimetics. Their water-exchange parameters were compared with those of the imino groups containing complex [Mn(L1)(Cl)2] (dichloro-2,13-dimethyl-3,6,9,12,18-pentaazabicyclo[12.3.1]-octadeca-1(18),2,12,14,16-pentaenemanganese(II)), which does not show SOD activity. In addition the X-ray crystal structure of a new complex, dichloro-2,6-bis[1-(2-(N-methylamino)ethylimino)ethyl]pyridine-manganese(II) [Mn(L2)(Cl)2], which is the acyclic analog of [Mn(L1)(Cl)2], is reported. Stability constants of the complexes and the pKa values of the ligands were measured by potentiometric titration. The titrations of [Mn(L1)(H2O)2]2+ and [Mn(L2)(H2O)2]2+ led to complicated species distribution curves because of their ligands containing imine bonds. Water exchange was measured by temperature- and pressure-dependent 17O NMR techniques. In addition to the measurements on [Mn(EDTA)(H2O)]2- and its derivatives, this is the only study of water exchange on seven-coordinate manganese complexes. The water exchange rate constants vary between 1.6 x 107 s-1 and 5.8 x 107 s-1 at 25 degrees C and are mainly controlled by the pi-acceptor abilities of the ligands. The exchange rate constant of the diaqua-1,4,7,10,13-pentaazacyclopentadecanemanganese(II) [Mn([15]aneN5)(H2O)2]2+ complex seems to be even higher but could not be exactly determined. On the basis of the obtained activation parameters, the exchange mechanism of the studied seven-coordinate manganese(II) complexes follows a dissociative pathway (Id mechanism). DFT calculations (UB3LYP/LANL2DZp) were performed to obtain the energy required for the dissociation of the coordinated water molecule, that is, the energy difference between the starting seven-coordinate complex and a six-coordinate intermediate. The results have been discussed in terms of the catalytic mechanism of the proven SOD mimetics.  相似文献

The reactions of early lanthanide metal atoms Nd, Sm, and Eu with water molecules have been investigated using matrix isolation infrared spectroscopy and density functional calculations. The reaction intermediates and products were identified on the basis of isotopic labeled experiments and density functional frequency calculations. The ground state metal atoms react with water to form the M(H2O) and M(H2O)(2) complexes spontaneously on annealing (M = Nd, Sm, Eu). The M(H2O) complexes isomerize to the inserted HMOH molecules under red light irradiation, which further decompose to give the metal monoxides upon UV light irradiation. The Nd(H2O)(2) complex decomposes to form the trivalent HNd(OH)(2) molecule, while the Sm(H2O)(2) and Eu(H2O)(2) complexes rearrange to the divalent Sm(OH)(2) and Eu(OH)(2) molecules under red light irradiation.  相似文献

(H2O)(6) (-) appears as a "magic" number water cluster in (H2O)(n) (-) mass spectra. The structure of the (H2O)(6) (-) isomer dominating the experimental population has been established only recently [N. I. Hammer et al., J. Phys. Chem. A 109, 7896 (2005)], and the most noteworthy characteristic of this isomer is the localization of the excess electron in the vicinity of a double-acceptor monomer. In the present work, we use a quantum Drude model to characterize the low-energy isomers and the finite temperature properties of (H2O)(6) (-). Comparison with ab initio calculations shows that the use of a water model employing distributed polarizabilities and distributed repulsive sites is necessary to correctly reproduce the energy ordering of the low-lying isomers. Both the simulations and the ab initio calculations predict that there are several isomers of (H2O)(6) (-) significantly lower in energy than the experimentally observed species, suggesting that the experimental distribution is far from equilibrium.  相似文献

The tripodal hexadentate picolinate ligand dpaa3- (H3dpaa=N,N'-bis[(6-carboxypyridin-2-yl)methyl]glycine) has been synthesised. It can form 1:1 and 1:2 lanthanide/ligand complexes. The crystal structure of the bis(aquo) lutetium complex [Lu(dpaa)(H2O)2] has been determined by X-ray diffraction studies. The number of water molecules was determined by luminescence lifetime studies of the terbium and europium complexes. The tris(aquo) terbium complex shows a fairly high luminescence quantum yield (22 %). The [Gd(dpaa)(H2O)3] complex displays a high water solubility and an increased stability (pGd=12.3) with respect to the analogous bis(aquo) complex [Gd(tpaa)(H2O)2] (pGd=11.2). Potentiometric and relaxometric studies show the formation of a soluble GdIII hydroxo complex at high pH values. A unique aquohydroxo gadolinium complex has been isolated and its crystal structure determined. This complex crystallises as a 1D polymeric chain consisting of square-shaped tetrameric units. In heavy water, the [Gd(dpaa)-(D2O)3] complex shows a quite high HOD proton relaxivity at high field (11.93 s(-1) mM(-1) at 200 MHz and 298 K) because of the three inner-sphere water molecules. The formation of ternary complexes with physiological anions has been monitored by relaxometric studies, which indicate that even under conditions favourable to the formation of adducts with oxyanions, the mean relaxivity remains higher than those of most of the currently used commercial contrast agents except for the citrate. However, the measured relaxivity (r1=7.9 s(-1) mM(-1)) in a solution containing equimolar concentrations of [Gd(dpaa)(D2O)3] and citrate is still high. The interaction with albumin has been investigated by relaxometric and luminescence studies. Finally, a new versatile method to unravel the geometric and dynamic molecular factors that explain the high-field relaxivities has been developed. This approach uses a small, uncharged non-coordinating probe solute, the outer-sphere relaxivity of which mimics that of the water proton. Only a routine NMR spectrometer and simple mathematical analysis are required.  相似文献

By first principles calculations, we explore the possibility that Na(-)(H(2)O)(n) and Li(-)(H(2)O)(n) clusters, which have been measured previously by photoelectron experiments, could serve as gas-phase molecular models for the solvation of two electrons. Such models would capture the electron-electron interaction in a solution environment, which is missed in the well-known anionic water clusters (H(2)O)(n) (-). Our results show that by n = 10, the two loosely bound s electrons in Li(-)(H(2)O)(n) are indeed detached from lithium, and they could exist in either the singlet (spin-paring) or the triplet (spin-coupling) state. In contrast, the two electrons would prefer to stay on the sodium atom in Na(-)(H(2)O)(n) and on the surface of the cluster. The formation of a solvated electron pair and the variation in solvation structures make these two cluster series interesting subjects for further experimental investigation.  相似文献

Density functional theory (DFT) structure calculations and time-dependent DFT electronic excitation calculations have been performed on chlorogenic acid (H(3)CGA), a polyphenolic compound, used as a model molecule of humic substances. The different deprotonated forms of H(3)CGA have also been investigated. H(3)CGA is a multisite ligand that presents several metal complexing sites in competition, notably the carboxylic and catechol moieties. In low acidic aqueous medium, the complexation of Pb(II) has been followed by electronic absorption spectrometry. The formation of two complexes of stoichiometry metal:ligand 1:1 (log beta(1:1) = 3.39) and 2:1 (log beta(2:1) = 7.12) has been highlighted with use of chemometric methods. The theoretical spectrum of the 1:1 complex obtained by TD-DFT methodology shows the formation of a chelate [Pb(H(2)CGA)(H(2)O)(3)](+) with the metal fixation at the level of the carboxylate function. The second complexing site, the catechol moiety, is rapidly involved in the formation of the 2:1 complex from molar ratios [metal]/[ligand] higher than 0.1. The electronic transitions calculated for both free ligand and complexes involved the same molecular orbitals, and no ligand-metal or metal-ligand charge transfer is observed.  相似文献

Reliable mass spectrometry data from large water clusters Y(-)(H(2)O)(n) with various negative core ions Y(-) such as O(2)(-), HO(-), HO(2)(-), NO(2)(-), NO(3)(-), NO(3)(-)(HNO(3))(2), CO(3)(-) and HCO(4)(-) have been obtained using atmospheric pressure negative corona discharge mass spectrometry. All the core Y(-) ions observed were ionic species that play a central role in tropospheric ion chemistry. These mass spectra exhibited discontinuities in ion peak intensity at certain size clusters Y(-)(H(2)O)(m) indicating specific thermochemical stability. Thus, Y(-)(H(2)O)(m) may correspond to the magic number or first hydrated shell in the cluster series Y(-)(H(2)O)(n). The high intensity discontinuity at HO(-)(H(2)O)(3) observed was the first mass spectrometric evidence for the specific stability of HO(-)(H(2)O)(3) as the first hydrated shell which Eigen postulated in 1964. The negative ion water clusters Y(-)(H(2)O)(n) observed in the mass spectra are most likely to be formed via core ion formation in the ambient discharge area (760 torr) and the growth of water clusters by adiabatic expansion in the vacuum region of the mass spectrometers (≈1 torr). The detailed mechanism of the formation of the different core water cluster ions Y(-)(H(2)O)(n) is described.  相似文献

A thermodynamic investigation has been performed to study the complexation of trivalent metal (M) ions (M = Am(III), Eu(III)) with tetradentate ligands (L), 6,6'-bis(5,6-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)-2,2'-bipyridines (BTBPs), by using relativistic quantum mechanical calculations. The structures and stabilities of the inner-sphere BTBPs complexes were explored in the presence of various counterions such as NO(3)(-), Cl(-), and ClO(4)(-). According to our calculations, Am(III) and Eu(III) can chelate eight or nine water molecules at most, whereas more stable species like M(NO(3))(3)(H(2)O)(4) tend to be formed in the presence of nitrate ions. The inner sphere of the BTBPs complexes can accommodate four water molecules or three nitrate ions based on our calculations, forming species such as [ML(H(2)O)(4)](3+) and ML(NO(3))(3). Compared with Eu(III) complexes, the Am(III) counterparts have obviously lower binding energies in both the gas phase and solution. In addition, the solvent effect significantly decreases the binding energies of the BTBPs complexes. It has been found that the complexing reactions, in which products and reactants possess the same or close number of nitrate ions, are more favorable for formation of the BTBPs complexes. In short, the reactions of M(NO(3))(3)(H(2)O)(4) → ML(NO(3))(3) and [M(NO(3))(H(2)O)(7)](2+) → [ML(2)(NO(3))](2+) are probably the dominant ones in the Am(III)/Eu(III) separation process.  相似文献

Electron impact mass spectra have been recorded for helium nanodroplets containing water clusters. In addition to identification of both H(+)(H(2)O)(n) and (H(2)O)(n)(+) ions in the gas phase, additional peaks are observed which are assigned to He(H(2)O)(n)(+) clusters for up to n=27. No clusters are detected with more than one helium atom attached. The interpretation of these findings is that quenching of (H(2)O)(n)(+) by the surrounding helium can cool the cluster to the point where not only is fragmentation to H(+)(H(2)O)(m) (where m < or = n-1) avoided, but also, in some cases, a helium atom can remain attached to the cluster ion as it escapes into the gas phase. Ab initio calculations suggest that the first step after ionization is the rapid formation of distinct H(3)O(+) and OH units within the (H(2)O)(n)(+) cluster. To explain the formation and survival of He(H(2)O)(n)(+) clusters through to detection, the H(3)O(+) is assumed to be located at the surface of the cluster with a dangling O-H bond to which a single helium atom can attach via a charge-induced dipole interaction. This study suggests that, like H(+)(H(2)O)(n) ions, the preferential location for the positive charge in large (H(2)O)(n)(+) clusters is on the surface rather than as a solvated ion in the interior of the cluster.  相似文献

DFT calculations using the B3LYP functional support the suggestion that the [(terpy)(H(2)O)Mn(IV)(micro-O)(2)Mn(III)(H(2)O)(terpy)](3+) (terpy=2,2':6,2' '-terpyridine) complex functions as a synthetic O(2) catalyst. The calculated barrier for O-O bond formation with water is 23 kcal/mol. In this complex, as well as in models of the oxygen evolving complex in PSII, the active species is a Mn(IV)-oxyl radical. From comparisons with inactive Mn(V)-oxo complexes, it is proposed that radical formation is actually a requirement for O(2) formation activity in Mn-complexes.  相似文献
