Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy of supported CuO–TiO2 catalysts have revealed that, depending on the CuO content and the calcination temperature, either Cu2+ ions incorporated into the TiO2 lattice, or surface oxide clusters, primary oxide aggregates and CuO1+X phase bonded to the support by Ti–O–Cu bridges, are formed.

Systems V2O5–KHSO4 and V2O5–K2SO4 have been studied by the51V NMR method. The first system demonstrates the same states of vanadium as the previously studied V2O5–K2S2O7, in this system a compound with an equimolar ratio of components has been found. In V2O5–K2SO4 the state of vanadium differs from the above systems and the formation of a compound with V/K=4 is observed.

The reaction takes place on Cd-containing Lewis sites, whereas the irreversible adsorption and condensation of product acetaldehyde on acidic OH groups of Cd-X, FAU catalyst results in deactivation. Preadsorbed ammonia moderates the deactivation, because it reacts with acetylene, and pyridine homologues are formed which block the accessible OH groups. Since in divalent cationic forms of clinoptilolite no OH groups are generated, Cd-clinoptilolite proved to be a catalyst of permanent activity.

Mössbauer spectroscopic studies of the state of Pt–Sn catalyst for hydrocarbon conversion supported on prechlorinated -Al2O3 indicate that, unlike nonchlorinated Al2O3, this system is much more reduced and besides Pt3Sn–PtSn2, its surface contains sigfificant amounts of Sn(II) and Sn(IV) chlorides bonded to the surface.

The thermal ignition behaviour of various mixtures of organic fuels, magnesium and ammonium nitrate (AN) has been examined by differential thermal analysis technique. It has been observed that the thermal decomposition/ignition of organic fuel-AN mixtures is modified significantly in the presence of magnesium metal. The decomposition characteristics of the binary mixtures of AN with various metals indicate the specific action of magnesium and zinc in lowering the decomposition temperature. A possible explanation for the low temperature decomposition is given in terms of the solid state reaction causing the fusion of AN which further reacts with the metal resulting in a highly exothermic reaction.
Zusammenfassung Mittels DTA wurde das thermische Initiierungsverhalten verschiedener Gemische aus organischen Brennstoffen, Magnesium und Ammoniumnitrat (AN) untersucht. Es wurde festgestellt, daß die thermische Zersetzung/Initiierung von Gemischen aus organischen Brennstoffen und AN durch die Gegenwart von metallischem Magnesium bedeutsam beeinflußt wird. Die Zersetzungscharakteristiken binären Gemische aus AN und verschiedener Metalle zeigen eine spezielle Wirkung von Magnesium und Zink bei der Herabsetzung der Zersetzungstemperatur. Eine mögliche Erklärung für die Zersetzung bei niedrigerer Temperatur kann in Bezug auf die Festkörperreaktion gesehen werden, die das Schmelzen von AN verursacht, welches dann mit dem Metall stark exotherm reagiert.

The rate constants of interactions of PW12-nVnO40 (3+n)– (n=1–4) heteropoly anions (HPAs) and various PW10V2O40 –5 isomers with VO2+ were measured. The reactions occurred via formation of intermediate active complexes with V(IV) ions incorporated into the coordination sphere of HPA.

XRD, isothermal and temperature-programmed reduction (TPR) experiments were carried out with SiO2, SiO2–Al2O3 and -Al2O3 supported catalysts. Molybdena is in a more disperse state on supports containing more alumina and it is more reducible on SiO2–Al2O3 than on SiO2 or -Al2O3. TPR curves were shown to reflect connections between reduction kinetics and dispersity.

The preferential exchange uptake of the cations Cs+, Ba2+ and Zn2+ from pure solutions by zeolite-13X follows the order Q [Cs+]>Q [Ba2+]>Q [Zn2+], while in case of binary mixtures the order is Q [Ba2+(Zn2+)]>Q [Ba2+(Cs+)]>Q [Cs+(Zn2+)]>Q [Cs+(Ba2+)]>Q [Zn2+(Cs+)]>Q [Zn2+(Ba2+)]. Ba2+ uptake from mixtures shows the least suppression effect.

Chemisorption of H2S on Al2O3, Al2O3–Cl and Pt/Al2O3–Cl has been studied by gravimetry and IR spectroscopy. The influence of the amount of Cl on the H2S adsorption equilibrium value and the nature of the adsorption sites at low and high coverages are discussed.

Using the flow ESR method, the rates of the reaction between the radical complex Ti(IV)(O 2 ) and one-electron reductants in aqueous solution have been measured. The redox potential for the Ti(IV) (O 2 )/Ti(IV) (O 2 2– ) couple is about 1.7 V.

The effect of sepiolite modification by B3+ and Al3+ ions on catalytic performance were investigated in cyclohexene skeletal isomerization (CSI) reaction. Catalytic activity to 1- and 3-methylcyclopentenes (1- and 3-MCP) fit the Bassett-Habgood kinetic model for first order processes. These ions induced strong acidity in the sepiolite and the best results (greater activity and selectivity to 1-MCP) were found when the sepiolite was exchanged with an BF3/methanol solution which contained 3 wt.% of the B3+ ion.
