Vector-valued Hausdorff-Young inequality on compact groups

The main purpose of this paper is to study the validity of theHausdorff–Young inequality for vector-valued functionsdefined on a non-commutative compact group. As we explain inthe introduction, the natural context for this research is thatof operator spaces. This leads us to formulate a whole new theoryof Fourier type and cotype for the category of operator spaces.The present paper is the first step in this program, where thebasic theory is presented, the main examples are analyzed andsome important questions are posed. 2000 Mathematics SubjectClassification 43A77, 46L07.     

On orthogonal projectors induced by compact groups and Haar measures

We study the difference of two orthogonal projectors induced by compact groups of linear operators acting on a vector space. An upper bound for the difference is derived using the Haar measures of the groups. A particular attention is paid to finite groups. Some applications are given for complex matrices and unitarily invariant norms. Majorization inequalities of Fan and Hoffmann and of Causey are rediscovered.

Applications are given to the L² and Sobolev boundedness of pseudo-differential operators.

In this article, by means of the theory of majorization, Adamovic's inequality is extended to the cases of the general elementary symmetric functions and its duals, and the refined and reversed forms are also given. As applications, some new inequalities for simplex are established.

We improve Clifford's Inequality for real algebraic curves. As an application we improve Harnack's Inequality for real space curves having a certain number of pseudo-lines. Another application involves the number of ovals that a real space curve can have.

In this paper, a sharp form of the Moser-Trudinger inequality is established on a compact Riemannian surface via the method of blow-up analysis, and the existence of an extremal function for such an inequality is proved.

     

An inequality for the multivariate normal distribution

Herman Chernoff used Hermite polynomials to prove an inequality for the normal distribution. This inequality is useful in solving a variation of the classical isoperimetric problem which, in turn, is relevant to data compression in the theory of element identification. As the inequality is of interest in itself, we prove a multivariate generalization of it using a different argument.     

A Berger-Green type inequality for compact Lorentzian manifolds

We give a Lorentzian metric on the null congruence associated with a timelike conformal vector field. A Liouville type theorem is proved and a boundedness for the volume of the null congruence, analogous to a well-known Berger-Green theorem in the Riemannian case, will be derived by studying conjugate points along null geodesics. As a consequence, several classification results on certain compact Lorentzian manifolds without conjugate points on its null geodesics are obtained. Finally, several properties of null geodesics of a natural Lorentzian metric on each odd-dimensional sphere have been found.

     

A trace class operator inequality

In this note, we generalize the inequality about the trace of positive semidefinite matrix trk(AB)?k(trA)k(trB) to Hilbert space, and obtain a relevant inequality about positive trace class operator.     

An improved SQP algorithm for inequality constrained optimization

In this paper, the feasible type SQP method is improved. A new algorithm is proposed to solve nonlinear inequality constrained problem, in which a new modified method is presented to decrease the computational complexity. It is required to solve only one QP subproblem with only a subset of the constraints estimated as active per single iteration. Moreover, a direction is generated to avoid the Maratos effect by solving a system of linear equations. The theoretical analysis shows that the algorithm has global and superlinear convergence under some suitable conditions.
