We show how the position of a limit order (LO) in the queue influences the decision of whether to cancel the order or let it rest. Using ultra-high-frequency data from the Nasdaq exchange, we perform empirical analysis on various LO book events and propose novel ways for modelling some of these events, including cancellation of LOs in various positions and size of market orders. Based on our empirical findings, we develop a queuing model that captures stylized facts on the data. This model includes a distinct feature which allows for a potentially random effect due to the agent’s impulse control. We apply the queuing model in an algorithmic trading setting by considering an agent maximizing her expected utility through placing and cancelling of LOs. The agent’s optimal strategy is presented after calibrating the model to real data. A simulation study shows that for the same level of standard deviation of terminal wealth, the optimal strategy has a 2.5% higher mean compared to a strategy which ignores the effect of position, or an 8.8% lower standard deviation for the same level of mean. This extra gain stems from posting an LO during adverse conditions and obtaining a good queue position before conditions become favourable.  相似文献

This paper considers the delay distributions in a two-class non-preemptive priority queue with crossover feedback. Specifically, there are two priority classes, and the Poisson arrival process for each class can be subdivided into two groups: one group which only requires service at the priority level to which it arrives, and another group which requires subsequent service after it feeds back to the other queue. Our main result is the determination of explicit expressions for the distribution of delay until final service commences for each the four types of customers.  相似文献

Priority queues are important in modelling and analysis of manufacturing systems, and computer and communication networks. In this paper, a priority tandem queueing system with two stations in series is studied. There is no intermediate buffer between the two stations, and the lack of buffers may cause blocking at the first station. K types of customers arrive at the system according to Poisson processes. The expected delay in the system for each type of customer is obtained when all the customers have the same service time distribution at the second station. Two cases are studied in detail when service times are either all exponentially distributed or all deterministic.  相似文献

We consider a queueing system in which a single server attends to N priority classes of customers. Upon arrival to the system, a customer begins to accumulate priority linearly at a rate which is distinct to the class to which it belongs. Customers with greater accumulated priority levels are given preferential treatment in the sense that at every service selection instant, the customer with the greatest accumulated priority level is selected next for servicing. Furthermore, the system is preemptive so that the servicing of a customer is interrupted for customers with greater accumulated priority levels. The main objective of the paper is to characterize the waiting time distributions of each class. Numerical examples are also provided which exemplify the true benefit of incorporating an accumulating prioritization structure, namely the ability to control waiting times.  相似文献

Shanthikumar (Shanthikumar, J.G. Level crossing analysis of priority queues and a conservation identity for vacation models. Nav. Res. Log. 1989, 36, 797–806) studied the priority M/G/1 queue with server vacations and found that the difference between the waiting time distribution under the non‐preemptive priority (NPP) and that under the preemptive‐resume priority (PRP) is independent of the vacation policy. We extend this interesting property: (i) to the generalized vacations which includes the two vacation policies considered by Shanthikumar; (ii) to the structured batch Poisson arrival process; and (iii) to the discrete‐time queues.  相似文献

This paper considers a discrete-time Geo X /G/1 queue accepting two classes of messages with preemptive repeat different priority. Service times of messages of each priority class are i.i.d. according to a general discrete distribution function that may differ between two classes. The completion time and the stability condition for our system are investigated. Solving the first nonmonotonic, longer-than-three instance of a classic enumeration problem, we obtain the generating functionH(x) of all 1342-avoiding permutations of lengthnas well as anexactformula for their numberSn(1342). While achieving this, we bijectively prove that the number of indecomposable 1342-avoiding permutations of lengthnequals that of labeled plane trees of a certain type onnvertices recently enumerated by Cori, Jacquard, and Schaeffer, which is in turn known to be equal to the number of rooted bicubic maps enumerated by Tutte (Can. J. Math.33(1963), 249–271). Moreover,H(x) turns out to be algebraic, proving the first nonmonotonic, longer-than-three instance of a conjecture of Noonan and Zeilberger (Adv. Appl. We consider a finite buffer fluid queue receiving its input from the output of a Markovian queue with finite or infinite waiting room. The input flow into the fluid queue is thus characterized by a Markov modulated input rate process and we derive, for a wide class of such input processes, a procedure for the computation of the stationary buffer content of the fluid queue and the stationary overflow probability. This approach leads to a numerically stable algorithm for which the precision of the result can be specified in advance.  相似文献

Analytic approximations are proposed for the mean response-times of R(≥ 2) priority classes in a stable G/G/c/PR queue with general class interarrival and service time distributions and c(≥ 2) parallel servers under pre-emptive resume (PR) scheduling. The generalized exponential (GE) distributional model is used to represent general distributions with known first two moments per class. The analysis is based on the extension of known heuristic arguments and earlier results regarding the study of the stable GE/GE/c/FCFS (c ≥ 1, single class) and GE/G/1/PR queues. Numerical examples illustrate the accuracy of the proposed approximations in relation to simulations involving different interarrival and service time distributions per class. Moreover, GE-type performance bounds on the system response time per class are defined. Comments on the role of the new mean response time expressions towards the approximation of the joint and marginal queue length distributions of a stable G/G/c/PR queue are included.  相似文献
