The hyphenated technique namely microwave-assisted headspace solid-phase microextraction (MA-HS-SPME) was developed and studied for the simultaneous extraction/enrichment of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in aqueous samples prior to the quantification by gas chromatography (GC). The PCBs in aqueous media are extracted onto a solid-phase micro fibre via the headspace with the aid of microwave irradiation. The optimum conditions for obtaining extraction efficiency, such as the extraction time, addition of salts, addition of methanol, ratio of sample to headspace volume, and the desorption parameters were investigated. Experimental results indicated that the proposed MA-HS-SPME method attained the best extraction efficiency under the optimized conditions, i.e., irradiation of extraction solution (20 ml aqueous sample in 40 ml headspace vial with no additions of salt and methanol) under 30 W microwave power for 15 cycles (1 min power on and 3 min power off of each cycle). Desorption at 270 degrees C for 3 min provided the best detection results. The detection limit obtained were between 0.27 and 1.34 ng/l. The correlation coefficient for the linear dynamic range from 1 to 80 ng/l exceeded 0.99 for 18 PCBs.  相似文献

We developed a method of qualitative and quantitative GC-MS analysis of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in soil samples, to be able to determine the biodegradation efficiency for individual PCBs. 13C12-Substituted PCB 153 was used as internal standard. The analyses were performed on a DB-5 capillary column. The identification procedure was based on the correlation analysis of the measured and published relative retention r12 data using [13C12]PCB 153 instead of octachloronaphthalene (OCN). [13C]PCB 153 was also used for quantification of individual PCBs in soil samples.  相似文献

Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) is a relatively new technique applicable for the extraction of persistent organic pollutants from various matrices. The main advantages of this method are short time and low consumption of extraction solvent. The effects of various operational parameters (i.e. temperature of extraction, number of static cycles and extraction solvent mixtures) on the PLE efficiency were investigated in this study. Fish muscle tissue containing 3.2% (w/w) lipids and native polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and other related compounds was used for testing. Purification of crude extracts was carried out by gel permeation chromatography employing Bio-Beads S-X3. Identification and quantitation of target indicator PCBs and OCPs was performed by high-resolution gas chromatography (HRGC) with two parallel electron-capture detectors (ECDs). Results obtained by the optimized PLE procedure were compared with conventional Soxhlet extraction (the same extraction solvent mixtures hexane–dichloromethane (1:1 v/v) and hexane–acetone (4:1 v/v) were used). The recoveries obtained by PLE operated at 90–120 °C were either comparable to “classic” Soxhlet extraction (for higher-chlorinated PCB congeners and DDT group) or even better (for lower chlorinated analytes). The highest recoveries were obtained for three static 5 min extraction cycles.  相似文献

Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in water were extracted with a rebuilt extraction unit using 47 mm C18 solid-phase extraction (SPE) disks. Three types of disks (SPEC, ENVI and Empore) were investigated for the extraction of seven PCBs from 11 reagent water spiked at two concentration levels (20 and 1000 ng/l). The Empore disks produced the best analyte recoveries (91-107% with R.S.D. of 1-8%) at the low concentration level and displayed no leaking tendency. Empore disks were therefore considered superior to ENVI and SPEC disks for the conditions outlined in this work. The obtained extracts were dried and purified in an additional clean-up step using custom-made columns containing Florisil and Na2SO4. For water containing large amounts of organic matter, a pre-filtration was included. Final analysis was carried out on a dual-column GC-electron-capture detection system with on-column injection. The optimised extraction method, including clean-up, was less time-consuming and used less hazardous organic solvents than conventional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) methods. Recoveries were 92-102% with R.S.D. of 3-8%.  相似文献

In the proposed method, an extraction solvent with a lower toxicity and density than the solvents typically used in dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction was used to extract seven polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from aqueous samples. Due to the density and melting point of the extraction solvent, the extract which forms a layer on top of aqueous sample can be collected by solidifying it at low temperatures, which form a layer on top of the aqueous sample. Furthermore, the solidified phase can be easily removed from the aqueous phase. Based on preliminary studies, 1-undecanol was selected as the extraction solvent, and a series of parameters that affect the extraction efficiency were systematically investigated. Under the optimized conditions, enrichment factors for PCBs ranged between 494 and 606. Based on a signal-to-noise ratio of 3, the limit of detection for the method ranged between 3.3 and 5.4 ng L−1. Good linearity, reproducibility and recovery were also obtained.  相似文献

Method validation was performed on the collection and extraction procedures for an analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DLPCBs) in flue gas. The adoption of the rapid pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) technique was evaluated for extraction from polyurethane foam plugs (PUFPs) and fly ash. With respect to extraction from PUFPs, dichloromethane PLE showed an extraction efficiency equivalent to that of conventional acetone Soxhlet, while toluene PLE was found to have a lower extraction efficiency from fly ash than toluene Soxhlet. The collection ability of three sampling methods, employed in the Japanese standard analytical method JIS K0311 (revised in 2005) was evaluated by evaluating the distribution of gaseous PCDD/Fs and DLPCBs in each collection compartment in sampling trains. A DiOANA® fibrous alumina filter and a PUFP, newly employed trapping devices in the revised JIS method, were found to trap gaseous analytes effectively. The validation of the two newly employed sampling methods (DiOANA and PUFP) was tested by parallel measurements of the methods with a conventional five-impinger method, and good agreements on the PCDD/Fs and DLPCBs quantities were demonstrated.  相似文献

PCB patterns in a new pigment brand are characterized using GC-MS in the single ion monitoring (SIM) mode. Specific PCBs are then used as external standards for GC-ECD quantification. The following PCB isomers or groups of isomers have to be determined (CB = chlorobiphenyl): total diCBs, 3,3′ diCB, 2,4,5-triCB, 2,2′,4,4′-tetraCB, 2,2′,5,5′-tetraCB, total pentaCB, total hexaCB. Capillary gas chromatography is performed on preseparated solutions (LC) of pigment. An electron caputure detector (ECD) is used for PCB detection and quantification. Calibration is based on the peak areas of external standards and the PCB isomers in the samples, all normalized for internal standard peak areas. Total concentrations of diCB, hexaCB, or pentaCB in a sample are calculated by summing the individual PCB isomer concentrations within the correcsponding elution ranges. Determination limits lie in the range of 1 mg/PCB-isomer/kg pigment.  相似文献

Ultrasound-assisted emulsification-microextraction (USAEME) procedure was developed for the determination of selected polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in 10 mL of water samples by gas chromatography-mass-selective detection. After determination of the most suitable solvent and extraction time, several other parameters including solvent volume, centrifugation time and ionic strength of the sample were optimized using a 23 factorial experimental design. The optimized USAEME procedure used 200 μL of chloroform as extraction solvent, 10 min of extraction with no ionic strength adjustment at 25 °C and 5 min of centrifugation at 4000 rpm. The limits of detection ranged from 14 ng L−1 (for PCB153) to 30 ng L−1 (for PCB101). Recoveries of PCBs from fortified distilled water are over 80% for three different fortification levels between 0.1 and 5 μg L−1 and relative standard deviations of the recoveries are below 10%. The performance of the proposed method was compared with those involving traditional liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and solid phase extraction (SPE) on the real water samples (i.e., tap and well water as well as domestic and industrial wastewaters, etc.) and comparable efficiencies were obtained. The proposed USAEME procedure has been demonstrated to be viable, simple, rapid and easy to use for residue analysis of PCBs in water samples.  相似文献

Narrow-bore column liquid chromatography coupled on-line with capillary gas chromatography (LC/GC) is used for the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in sediment via a heart-cutting technique. This method is compared with a method in which two off-line column clean-up steps are used with subsequent analysis by capillary gas chromatography. For the LC/GC analysis the recovery of PCBs was 90–100%. For two sediment samples from the river Meuse the LC/GC and the other, more laborious method showed good agreement.  相似文献

A vortex‐assisted magnetic matrix solid‐phase dispersion method was proposed for the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls in different matrix water samples by gas chromatography with electron capture detection. Magnetic bamboo charcoal (MBC) was synthesized for the adsorption of polychlorinated biphenyls in water samples. Complete separation of the liquid phase and the solid magnetic bamboo charcoal was easily achieved by using a permanent magnet. Under the optimized conditions, good linearity in the range of 0.006–5.0 μg/L was obtained with regression coefficients (r) higher than 0.9986. Based on a signal‐to‐noise ratio of 3, limits of detection were found to be 0.001–0.003 μg/L. Relative standard deviations ranged from 2.92 to 6.56%. Relative recoveries were 96.6–111.2% for the spiked wastewater sample and 90.7–104.7% for the spiked lake water sample. All results showed that the proposed method was simple, sensitive, and reliable for the determination of polychlorinated biphenyls in water samples.  相似文献

An ultrasound‐assisted magnetic SPE procedure with an Fe3O4‐grafted graphene nanocomposite as the magnetic adsorbent has been developed to determine seven polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs; PCB28, PCB52, PCB101, PCB118, PCB138, PCB153, and PCB180) simultaneously in 200 mL environmental water samples, in combination with GC–MS/MS. Several factors related to magnetic SPE efficiencies, such as the superparamagnetic intensity and amount of adsorbent, extraction time, sample pH, and desorption conditions were investigated. With the assistance of ultrasound, the extraction achieved the maximum within only 20 s, attributed to the powerful adsorptive ability of the magnetic adsorbent toward the PCBs. Under the optimized conditions, an excellent linearity was observed in the range of 0.1–100 ng/L for PCB28, 0.2–100 ng/L for PCB52, and 0.5–100 ng/L for the other five PCBs with the correlation coefficients ranging from 0.9988 to 0.9996. The mean recoveries at spiked levels of 5.0 and 10.0 ng/L were 84.9–108.5%, the coefficients of variations were <6.5%. With convenient magnetic separation, the synthesized magnetic adsorbent could be recycled more than ten times. The proposed method was demonstrated to be feasible, simple, rapid, and easy to operate for the trace analysis of the PCBs in environmental water samples.  相似文献

The different parameters affecting the ionisation and fragmentation of selected polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in an IT detector working in the MS/MS mode, ITD(MS/MS), have been optimised for maximum selectivity and sensibility. The low LODs (in the range 0.03-0.3 microg/L), the satisfactory repeatability (RSDs in general below 11%) and reproducibility (RSDs below 17%) obtained when analysing standard solutions ensured proper determination of the PCBs studied at the concentrations typically found in food samples. Foodstuffs naturally contaminated with varying levels of PCBs have been analysed using the optimised GC-ITD(MS/MS) method. The results obtained compared favourably with those found using more conventional detectors, such as (micro-)electron capture detection (for ortho-PCBs) and high-resolution MS (for non-ortho-PCBs), as well as with the consensus PCB levels established for these particular samples via an international interlaboratory exercise. The relative merits of these three detectors have been discussed.  相似文献

Topological parameters (Balaban index and electrotopological index) were used as structural parameters in the structure-retention relationships (SRRs). These relationships were found to be statistically valid and useful in the prediction of retention data of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) despite of the temperature program used in the gas chromatographic experiment.  相似文献

The simultaneous extraction and clean-up of mussel samples followed by gas chromatography with electron-capture detection and mass spectrometric confirmation of 15 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and 11 polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is developed using Florisil sorbent in the supercritical fluid extraction cell. The method detection limits vary from 1 to 10 ng/g for OCPs and from 2 to 15 ng/g for PCBs. Mean reproducibilities of 11% and 10% and mean recoveries of 80% and 53%, respectively, for OCPs and PCBs are obtained. The feasibility of the proposed supercritical fluid extraction method was confirmed by analyzing a certified reference material and mussels collected from Taiwan region. The method is simple, rapid and requires only small amounts of samples and solvents. It may serve as a screening protocol for the determination of OCPs and PCBs in mussels on a routine basis.  相似文献

Human exposure to polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs) in humans was determined by analyzing adipose tissue samples collected in 1996–1997 from two different localities: Siena (Italy) and Concepción (Chile). ΣPCBs was higher in Italian samples than that from Chile (493 and 53 ng/g wet wt., respectively). Thirty-seven different PCB congeners were identified in all samples. The prevailing PCB congeners in both groups were 22′44′5 pentachlorobiphenyl (IUPAC no. PCB 118), 22′344′5′ (PCB-138) and 22′44′55′ (PCB-153) hexachlorobiphenyls and 22′33′44′5 (PCB-170), 22′344′55′ (PCB-180) and 22′34′55′6 (PCB-187) heptachlorobiphenyls. PCB-153 accounted for more than 20% of the total PCB residue in both groups, while the remaining six congeners accounted for approximately 70%. Hexachlorobiphenyls were the most abundant congeners in all samples, with 42% of total residue in those from Italy and 43% in the Chilean samples, followed by heptachlorobiphenyls with 41 and 36% in Italian and Chilean samples, respectively. Average concentrations of non-ortho substituted coplanar congeners were below 1 pg/g wet wt. In the samples from Siena no noticeable differences were observed between the three average coplanar concentrations, while in those from Concepción 33′44′tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB-77) was much higher than 33′44′pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB-126) and 33′44′55′hexachlorobiphenyl (PCB-169). For each sample the contribution to the total toxic equivalent values (ΣTEQs) of each non-ortho, mono-ortho and di-ortho substituted PCB congeners was assessed. The overall TEQs calculated for the monitored PCBs, were 10.16 pg/g wet wt. in Italian samples and 1.09 pg/g wet wt. in Chileans ones. In both groups the main contribution to ΣTEQs were the di-ortho substituted PCB congeners (Siena: 6.17 pg/g wet wt.; Concepción: 0.56 pg/g wet wt.) and the mono-ortho substituted PCB congeners (Siena: 3.97 pg/g wet wt.; Concepción: 0.50 pg/g wet wt.).  相似文献

The efficiency of hot alkaline digestion of a sample matrix was investigated for determination of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and coplanar polychlorinated biphenyls (CoPCBs) in biological samples. Results of recovery tests of octachlorodibenzofuran (OCDF) after spiking into lean tuna showed degradation of OCDF and the production of a large quantity of lower-chlorinated dibenzofurans (LoCDFs) when the sample was digested with hot ethanolic KOH. However, it was also confirmed that pyrogallol (PG) prevented dechlorination of OCDF. The accuracy of the hot alkaline digestion method with PG was demonstrated by analyzing PCDD/Fs-spiked lean tuna. The proposed method is more suitable than conventional versions for the determination of dioxins in biological samples in terms of savings in time, adequate digestion of matrix and high degree of recovery of internal standards.  相似文献

The adsorptive potential of hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (h-BNNSs) for solid-phase extraction (SPE) of pollutants was investigated for the first time. Seven indicators of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were selected as target analytes. The adsorption of PCBs on the surface of the h-BNNSs in water was simulated by the density functional theory and molecular dynamics. The simulation results indicated that the PCBs are adsorbed on the surface by π–π, hydrophobic, and electrostatic interactions. The PCBs were extracted with an h-BNNS-packed SPE cartridge, and eluted by dichloromethane. Gas chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry working in the multiple reaction monitor mode was used for the sample quantification. The effect of extraction parameters, including the flow rate, pH value, breakthrough volume, and the ionic strength, were investigated. Under the optimal working conditions, the developed method showed low limits of detection (0.24–0.50 ng L−1; signal-to-noise ratio = 3:1), low limits of quantification (0.79–1.56 ng L−1; signal-to-noise ratio = 10:1), satisfactory linearity (r > 0.99) within the concentration range of 2–1000 ng L−1, and good precision (relative standard deviation < 12%). The PCBs concentration in environmental water samples was determined by the developed method. This results demonstrate that h-BNNSs have high analytical potential in the enrichment of pollutants.  相似文献

Three commonly applied extraction techniques for persistent organic chemicals, Soxhlet extraction (SE), accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE), were applied on soil and fish samples in order to evaluate their performances. For both PCBs and PBDEs, the two more recent developed techniques (ASE and MAE) were in general capable of producing comparable extraction results as the classical SE, and even higher extraction recoveries were obtained for some PCB congeners with large octanol-water partitioning coefficients (Kow). This relatively uniform extraction results from ASE and MAE indicated that elevated temperature and pressure are favorable to the efficient extraction of PCBs from the solid matrices. For PBDEs, difference between the results from MAE and ASE (or SE) suggests that the MAE extraction condition needs to be carefully optimized according to the characteristics of the matrix and analyte to avoid degradation of higher brominated BDE congeners and improve the extraction yields.  相似文献

Levels and patterns of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were studied in surface soil samples collected in the coastal part of Croatia within and surrounding four different airports and in the vicinity of two partially devastated electrical transformer stations. The compounds accumulated from air-dried soil samples by multiple ultrasonic extraction with an n-hexane?:?acetone 1?:?1 mixture were analysed by capillary gas chromatography with electron capture and ion-trap detection. PCBs were quantified against a standard Aroclor 1242/Aroclor 1260 mixture and a standard mixture of 17 individual PCB congeners (IUPAC No.: 28, 52, 60, 74, 101, 105, 114, 118, 123, 138, 153, 156, 157, 167, 170, 180, and 189). The mass fractions of total PCBs in 18 soil samples collected within the airport premises ranged from 3 to 41?327?µg/kg dry weight (dw) (median: 533?µg/kg?dw), and those in 21 samples collected at a distance ranging from several metres to 5?km away from the airport fence, from <1 to 39?µg/kg?dw (median: 5?µg/kg?dw). The highest PCB levels were determined in soils along the airport aprons where the aircrafts were serviced and refuelled. The PCB pattern was very similar to technical Aroclor 1260 in all airport soils. The PCB pattern in 22 soils collected in the vicinity of electrical transformer stations was dominated by congeners contained in Aroclor 1242. These soils contained 7 to >400?µg/kg?dw of total PCBs. One highly PCB-contaminated airport soil sample was analysed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs). With an international toxic equivalent (I-TEQ) of 9.7?ng/kg?dw, the airport soil contamination was within values typical for urban and rural areas, and the congener patterns gave no clear indication for PCBs as the only source of PCDDs/PCDFs.  相似文献
