Structure, photoabsorption and excited states of two representative conformations obtained from molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of a doubly-linked porphyrin-fullerene dyad DHD6ee are studied by using both DFT and wavefunction based methods. Charge transfer from the donor (porphyrin) to the acceptor (fullerene) and the relaxation of the excited state are of special interest. The results obtained with LDA, GGA, and hybrid functionals (SVWN, PBE, and B3LYP, respectively) are analyzed with emphasis on the performance of used functionals as well as from the point of view of their comparison with wavefunction based methods (CCS, CIS(D), and CC2). Characteristics of the MD structures are retained in DFT optimization. The relative orientation of porphyrin and fullerene is significantly influencing the MO energies, the charge transfer (CT) in the ground state of the dyad and the excitation of ground state CT complex (g-CTC). At the same time, the excitation to the locally excited state of porphyrin is only little influenced by the orientation or cc distance. TD-DFT underestimates the excitation energy of the CT state, however for some cases (with relatively short donor-acceptor separations), the use of a hybrid functional like B3LYP alleviates the problem. Wavefunction based methods and CC2 in particular appear to overestimate the CT excitation energies but the inclusion of proper solvation models can significantly improve the results.  相似文献

While preparing the first structurally rigid zinc phthalocyanine-benzoquinone (ZnPc-BQ) dyad as a model for photoinduced charge separation mimicking natural photosynthesis, a convenient method is developed for in situ generation of a benzoquinone chromophore in the dyad using an iso-butyryl mask. The dyad has no rotamers and possesses a fixed distance between ZnPc and BQ moieties (center-to-center and edge-to-edge distances are 9.40 and 2.14 A, respectively). The dyad displays unusual electronic perturbation in the ground state, resulting from the interactions between Pc and BQ, and exhibits photoinduced electron transfer with a lifetime of 40 ps of the charged separated states. The steady-state fluorescence and electrochemical behavior of the dyad are evaluated. This study opens a route to subsequent dyads, triads, and complex architectures of electron donor-acceptor arrays with rigid structures and long charge separation states.  相似文献

Electron and energy transfer reactions of porphyrin-porphyrin-fullerene triads (P2P1C) with controllable sandwich-like structures have been studied using spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. The stabile, stacked structure of the molecules was achieved applying a two-linker strategy developed previously for porphyrin-fullerene dyads. Different triad structures with altered linker positions, linker lengths, and center atoms of the porphyrin rings were studied. The final charge-separated (CS) state and the different transient states of the reactions have been identified and energies of the states estimated based on the experimental results. In particular, a complete CS state P2(+) P1C- was achieved in a zinc porphyrin-free-base porphyrin-fullerene triad (ZnP2t9P1C) in both polar (benzonitrile) and nonpolar (toluene) solvents. The lifetime of this state was longer living in the nonpolar solvent. An outstanding feature of the ZnP2t9P1C triad is the extremely fast formation of the final CS state, P2(+) P1C-. This state is formed after primary excitation of either zinc porphyrin or free-base porphyrin chromophores in less than 200 fs. Although the intermediate steps between the locally excited states and the final CS state were not time-resolved for this compound, the process is clearly multistep and the fastest ever observed for porphyrin-based compounds.  相似文献

A series of electron donor-acceptor (DA) dyads, composed of a porphyrin donor and a fullerene acceptor covalently linked with two molecular chains, were used to fabricate solid molecular films with the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. By means of the LB technique, the DA molecules can be oriented perpendicular to the plane of the substrate. In DHD6ee and its zinc derivative hydrophilic groups are attached to the phenyl moieties in the porphyrin end of the molecule; while in the other three dyads, TBD6a, TBD6hp, and TBD4hp, the hydrophilic groups are in the fullerene end of the molecule. This makes it possible to alternate the orientation of the molecules in two opposite directions with respect to the air-water interface and to fabricate molecular assemblies in which the direction of the primary photoinduced vectorial electron transfer can be controlled both by the deposition direction of the LB monolayer and by the selection of the used DA molecule. This was proved by the time-resolved Maxwell displacement charge measurements. The spectroscopic properties of the DA films were studied with the steady-state absorption and fluorescence methods. In addition, the time correlated single photon counting technique was used to determine the fluorescence properties of the dyad films.  相似文献

The photoinduced electron transfer in differently linked zinc porphyrin-fullerene dyads and their free-base porphyrin analogues was studied in polar and nonpolar solvents with femto- to nanosecond absorption and emission spectroscopies. A new intermediate state, different from the locally excited (LE) chromophores and the complete charge-separated (CCS) state, was observed. It was identified as an exciplex. The exciplex preceded the CCS state in polar benzonitrile and the excited singlet state of fullerene in nonpolar toluene. The behavior of the dyads was modeled by using a common kinetic scheme involving equilibria between the exciplex and LE chromophores. The scheme is suitable for all the studied porphyrin-fullerene compounds. The rates of reaction steps depended on the type of linkage between the moieties. The scheme and Marcus theory were applied to calculate electronic couplings for sequential reactions, and consistent results were obtained.  相似文献

A highly Y3+-selective fluorescence sensor has been developed using zinc porphyrin-CONH-quinone dyad (ZnP-CONH-Q). The selective binding of the Q moiety of ZnP-CONH-Q with Y3+ retards electron transfer from the singlet excited state (1ZnP*) to Q, leading to a remarkable enhancement of the fluorescence intensity.  相似文献

A hexaphenylbenzene-based zinc porphyrin dyad forms a 1:1 complex with a fullerene bearing two pyridyl groups via coordination of the pyridyl nitrogens with the zinc atoms. The fullerene is symmetrically located between the two zinc porphyrins. The binding constant for the complex is 7.3 x 10(4) M(-1) in 1,2-difluorobenzene. Photoinduced electron transfer from a porphyrin first excited singlet state to the fullerene occurs with a time constant of 3 ps, and the resulting charge-separated state has a lifetime of 230 ps. This self-assembled construct should form a basis for the construction of more elaborate model photosynthetic antenna-reaction center systems.  相似文献

Photoexcitation of a zinc phthalocyanine-perylenediimide (ZnPc-PDI) dyad and a bis(zinc phthalocyanine)-perylenediimide [(ZnPc) 2-PDI] triad results in formation of the triplet excited state of the PDI moiety without the fluorescence emission, whereas addition of Mg (2+) ions to the dyad and triad results in formation of long-lived charge-separated (CS) states (ZnPc (*+)-PDI (*-)/Mg (2+) and (ZnPc) 2 (*+)-PDI (*-)/Mg (2+)) in which PDI (*-) forms a complex with Mg (2+). Formation of the CS states in the presence of Mg (2+) was confirmed by appearance of the absorption bands due to ZnPc (*+) and PDI (*-)/Mg (2+) complex in the time-resolved transient absorption spectra of the dyad and triad. The one-electron reduction potential ( E red) of the PDI moiety in the presence of a metal ion is shifted to a positive direction due to the binding of Mg (2+) to PDI (*-), whereas the one-electron oxidation potential of the ZnPc moiety remains the same. The binding of Mg (2+) to PDI (*-) was confirmed by the ESR spectrum, which is different from that of PDI (*-) without Mg (2+). The energy of the CS state (ZnPc (*+)-PDI (*-)/Mg (2+)) is determined to be 0.79 eV, which becomes lower that of the triplet excited state (ZnPc- (3)PDI*: 1.07 eV). This is the reason why the long-lived CS states were attained in the presence of Mg (2+) instead of the triplet excited state of the PDI moiety.  相似文献

Two porphyrin-fullerene dyads were synthesized to form self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on indium-tin oxide (ITO) electrode, with either ITO-porphyrin-fullerene or ITO-fullerene-porphyrin orientations. The dyads contain two linkers for connecting the porphyrin and fullerene moieties and enforcing them essentially to similar geometries of the donor-acceptor pair, and two linkers to ensure the attachment of the dyads to the ITO surface with two desired opposite orientations. The transient photovoltage responses (Maxwell displacement charge) were measured for the dyad films covered by insulating LB films, thus ensuring that the dyads interact only with the ITO electrode. The direction of the electron transfer was from the photoexcited dyad to ITO independent of the dyad orientation. The response amplitude for the ITO-fullerene-porphyrin structure, where the primary intramolecular electron-transfer direction coincides with the direction of the final electron transfer from the dyad to ITO, was 25 times stronger than that for the opposite ITO-porphyrin-fullerene orientation of the dyad. Static photocurrent measurements in a liquid electrochemical cell, however, show only a minor orientation effect, indicating that the photocurrent generation is controlled by the processes at the SAM-liquid interface.  相似文献

[reaction: see text] Photoexcitation of a zinc imidazoporphyrin-fullerene dyad with a short linkage results in formation of the charge-separated state by photoinduced electron transfer. The charge-separated state has a lifetime of 310 micros in benzonitrile at 278 K, which is the longest lifetime in solution ever reported for electron donor-acceptor-linked dyads.

Anion binding has emerged as an attractive strategy to construct supramolecular electron donor-acceptor complexes. In recent years, the level of sophistication in the design of these systems has advanced to the point where it is possible to create ensembles that mimic key aspects of the photoinduced electron-transfer events operative in the photosynthetic reaction centre. Although anion binding is a reversible process, kinetic studies on anion binding and dissociation processes, as well as photoinduced electron-transfer and back electron-transfer reactions in supramolecular electron donor-acceptor complexes formed by anion binding, have revealed that photoinduced electron transfer and back electron transfer occur at time scales much faster than those associated with anion binding and dissociation. This difference in rates ensures that the linkage between electron donor and acceptor moieties is maintained over the course of most forward and back electron-transfer processes. A particular example of this principle is illustrated by electron-transfer ensembles based on tetrathiafulvalene calix[4]pyrroles (TTF-C4Ps). In these ensembles, the TTF-C4Ps act as donors, transferring electrons to various electron acceptors after anion binding. Competition with non-redox active substrates is also observed. Anion binding to the pyrrole amine groups of an oxoporphyrinogen unit within various supramolecular complexes formed with fullerenes also results in acceleration of the photoinduced electron-transfer process but deceleration of the back electron transfer; again, this is ascribed to favourable structural and electronic changes. Anion binding also plays a role in stabilizing supramolecular complexes between sulphonated tetraphenylporphyrin anions ([MTPPS](4-): M = H(2) and Zn) and a lithium ion encapsulated C(60) (Li(+)@C(60)); the resulting ensemble produces long-lived charge-separated states upon photoexcitation of the porphyrins.  相似文献

A novel porphyrin-fullerene dyad assembled through Watson-Crick hydrogen bonds is described; this system undergoes photoinduced electron transfer upon irradiation with visible light to produce a charge separated state that is substantially longer lived than that of previous dyads of this type.  相似文献

A covalently linked magnesium porphyrin-fullerene (MgPo-C60) dyad was synthesized and its spectral, electrochemical, molecular orbital, and photophysical properties were investigated and the results were compared to the earlier reported zinc porphyrin-fullerene (ZnPo-C60) dyad. The ab initio B3LYP/3-21G(*) computed geometry and electronic structure of the dyad predicted that the HOMO and LUMO are mainly localized on the MgP and C60 units, respectively. In o-dichlorobenzene containing 0.1 M (n-Bu)4NClO4, the synthesized dyad exhibited six one-electron reversible redox reactions within the potential window of the solvent. The oxidation and reduction potentials of the MgP and C60 units indicate stabilization of the charge-separated state. The emission, monitored by both steady-state and time-resolved techniques, revealed efficient quenching of the singlet excited state of the MgP and C60 units. The quenching pathway of the singlet excited MgP moiety involved energy transfer to the appended C60 moiety, generating the singlet excited C60 moiety, from which subsequent charge-separation occurred. The charge recombination rates, k(CR), evaluated from nanosecond transient absorption studies, were found to be 2-3 orders of magnitude smaller than the charge separation rate, k(CS). In o-dichlorobenzene, the lifetime of the radical ion-pair, MgPo*+-C60*-, was found to be 520 ns which is longer than that of ZnPo*+-C60*- indicating better charge stabilization in MgPo-C60. Additional prolongation of the lifetime of MgPo*+-C60*- was achieved by coordinating nitrogenous axial ligands. The solvent effect in controlling the rates of forward and reverse electron transfer is also investigated.  相似文献

Bichromophoric compound 3 beta-((2-(methoxycarbonyl)bicyclo[2.2.1]hepta-2,5-diene-3-yl)carboxy)androst-5-en-17 beta-yl-[2-(N-carbazolyl)acetate] (NBD-S-CZ) was synthesized and its photochemistry was examined by fluorescence quenching, flash photolysis, and chemically induced dynamic nuclear polarization (CIDNP) methods. Fluorescence quenching measurements show that intramolecular electron transfer from the singlet excited state of the carbazole to the norbornadiene group in NBD-S-CZ occurs with an efficiency (Phi SET) of about 14 % and rate constant (kSET) of about 1.6 x 10(7) s-1. Phosphorescence and flash photolysis studies reveal that intramolecular triplet energy transfer and electron transfer from the triplet carbazole to the norbornadiene group proceed with an efficiency (TET + TT) of about 52 % and rate constant (kTET + kTT) of about 3.3 x 10(5) s-1. Upon selective excitation of the carbazole chromophore, nuclear polarization is detected for protons of the norbornadiene group (emission) and its quadricyclane isomer (enhanced absorption); this suggests that the isomerization of the norbornadiene group to the quadricyclane proceeds by a radical-ion pair recombination mechanism in addition to intramolecular triplet sensitization. The long-distance intramolecular triplet energy transfer and electron transfers starting both from the singlet and triplet excited states are proposed to proceed by a through-bond mechanism.  相似文献

A porphyrin-fullerene dyad, which is characterized by a close proximity of the porphyrin donor and the fullerene acceptor, was found to undergo a photoinduced electron transfer both in solutions and in solid films. Near-infrared charge-transfer (CT) emission was observed and analyzed in frame of the semi-classical Marcus electron-transfer theory yielding values for the reaction free energy, -deltaG degrees = 1.75 eV, the internal reorganization energy, lambdav = 0.05 eV, and the donor-acceptor vibrational energy, hv(v) = 0.14 eV, both in solution and in solid film. The influence of the environment on the CT properties of the dyad is described by a single parameter, the outer-sphere reorganization energy, lambdas, which varies from 0.05 eV in non-polar solvents and films to 0.13 eV in solvents of moderate polarity. At low temperatures (T< 200 K), the CT emission consists of distinct bands shifted from each other by value hv(v). This is the first direct observation of the vibrational frequencies of a porphyrin-fullerene donor-acceptor system.  相似文献
