We present a feasiblity study of a new method for enhancing the continuously phase matched second harmonic generation in 2D PPLN optical waveguides fabricated using the off-center Czochralski technique and proton-exchange. We show that a periodic variation of the nonlinear coefficient along the transverse coordinate permits for efficient energetic exchanges.  相似文献

We present experiments that show achievement of highly efficient generation of parametric sidebands in an optical fiber with dual-frequency, circularly polarized pump waves. An appropriate choice of the separation between the pump frequencies permits a strong reduction of the optimum power for highly efficient frequency conversion.  相似文献

We present experimental studies of all-optical poling (AOP) in large-core dye-doped poly(methyl methacrylate) plastic optical fibers. We show that the confinement of light within the fiber core permits us to reach the upper limit of second harmonic generation achievable by AOP using repeated trans-cis isomerization. Quantification of the output power indicates self-seeding that can counteract relaxation of the orientation during readout of the induced nonlinearity.  相似文献

We exploit the close similarities between time-frequency and position-wave-vector correspondences to control the spatiotemporal diffraction pattern of ultrashort laser pulses. This approach permits novel, automated generation of sophisticated two-dimensional femtosecond waveforms. A two-dimensional space-time version of a Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm is used to iteratively determine the phase pattern in position-frequency space that produces a user-defined intensity profile in wave-vector-time space.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate repetitive M-ary spectral phase pulse shaping by placing a programmable pulse shaper driven by a 10-GHz source in a closed loop. This permits generation of encoded and decoded signals in the same apparatus by forming a closed loop to circulate a part of the output back into the pulse shaper. As a result, a series of M - 1 distinct encoded waveforms is sequentially generated, followed by generation of a properly decoded pulse.  相似文献

We report the application of electric-field-induced optical second-harmonic generation as a new technique for measuring the field of freely propagating terahertz radiation. Using silicon as the nonlinear medium, we demonstrate subpicosecond time resolution and a sampling signal that varies linearly with the terahertz electric field. This approach, which is attractive for centrosymmetric media, permits a significantly broadened class of materials to be exploited for free-space sampling measurements.  相似文献

New techniques are presented that make phase-shifting holography viable for second-harmonic generation (SHG) holography with weak object fields. We developed an intrinsic phase shift calibration of SHG holograms, an algorithm that extracts the reference and object intensity directly from a set of phase-shifted holographic data, and a more robust phase-shifting holography reconstruction algorithm based on π-shifted hologram pairs that permits self-calibration of the phase shift and recovery of the complex field through a Hilbert transform.  相似文献

Picosecond, flat-top, deep-UV pulses are needed to generate high-brightness electron beams to efficiently drive x-ray free electron lasers. Current metal photocathodes have low efficiency and therefore require high-energy pulses, and the generation of high-energy, flat-top pulses in the deep UV is still challenging. The low efficiencies of both the harmonic generation and deep-UV pulse shapers restrict the accessible pulse energy. Moreover, the acceptance bandwidth of the harmonic generation limits the minimum rise time of the flat-top profile. We present the generation of few-hundred microjoule, picosecond, deep-UV pulses using chirp-matched sum frequency generation. This scheme combined with IR spectral manipulation is a novel approach for deep-UV pulse shaping. It permits flat-top pulses with high energy and fast rise time, highly suited for high-brightness photoelectron beam production.  相似文献

We demonstrate a new technique for femtosecond-pulse generation that employs ultrafast modulation of a laser field phase by impulsively excited molecular rotational or vibrational motion with subsequent temporal compression. An ultrashort pump pulse at 800 nm performs impulsive excitation of a molecular gas in a hollow waveguide, and a weak delayed probe pulse at 400 nm is scattered on the temporal oscillations of its dielectric index. The resultant sinusoidal phase modulation of the probe pulse permits probe pulse temporal compression by use of both positively and negatively dispersive elements. The potential of this new method is demonstrated by the generation of a periodic train of 5.8-fs pulses at 400 nm with positive group-delay dispersion compensation.  相似文献

In this Letter we discuss squeezing state of magnon in ferromagnet, which permits a reduction in the quantum fluctuation of the spin component to below the zero-point quantum noise level of coherent magnon states. We investigate the generation of squeezed magnon state through calculating the expectation values of spin component fluctuation. We reconsider the phenomenon of mass generation via coordinate-dependent compactifications of higher-dimensional theories on orbifolds. For definiteness, we study a generic five-dimensional theory compactified on S(1)/Z(2). We show that the presence of fixed points, where the fields or their derivatives may be discontinuous, permits new realizations of the Scherk-Schwarz mechanism where, for example, the mass terms are localized at the orbifold fixed points. Our technique can be used to describe the explicit breaking of global flavor symmetries and supersymmetries by brane-localized mass terms. It can also be applied to the spontaneous breaking of local symmetries, such as gauge symmetries or supergravities.  相似文献

We demonstrate a simple optical clockwork mechanism based on the broadened frequency comb of a femtosecond laser and on difference-frequency generation (DFG) in a nonlinear crystal. The DFG comb possesses a vanishing carrier envelope offset frequency that permits the construction of a simple and thus potentially more stable optical clockwork. In addition it offers the possibility of extending the frequency comb into the infrared spectral region. The overall accuracy and stability of the DFG comb relative to the initial frequency comb were measured to be 6.6 x 10(-21) and 10(-18) tau(-1), respectively, where tau is the averaging time in seconds. Assuming that sum- and difference-frequency generation are independent processes, our measurements suggest a <10(-20) accuracy for them.  相似文献

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility of retrieving the spatial coherence of an infrared source by using an up-conversion interferometer. Sum-frequency generation in Ti-diffused periodically poled lithium-niobate waveguides in both arms of the interferometer is used to convert the infrared into the visible domain. The fringe contrast of the interference pattern in the visible domain permits us to resolve the spatial separation of two uncorrelated pointlike infrared sources, which simulate a binary star. The validity of these measurements is confirmed through a simultaneous comparison with a reference interferometer working in the infrared domain.  相似文献

We describe a Ti:sapphire-based laser-x-ray system specifically designed for generation of ultrafast x-ray pulses in the tenths-of-nanometers spectral range at a 2-kHz repetition rate. To obtain high-contrast laser pulses we divide the laser system into a section for generation of microjoule, high-contrast pulses with pulse cleaning and a subsequent section for chirped-pulse amplification and pulse compression. This laser section operates in conjunction with an x-ray-generation section based on a moving copper wire in a He atmosphere. The high reliability of the entire system permits maintenance-free production of x-ray pulses over tens of hours. Average x-ray fluxes of 10(13) photons/(s 4pi sr 1 keV) at 3 keV and 10(9) photons/(s 4pi sr) above 5 keV of photon energy are produced.  相似文献

We demonstrate high-fidelity optical arbitrary waveform generation with 5 GHz waveform switching via time-domain multiplexing. Compact, integrated waveform shapers based on silica arrayed-waveguide grating pairs with 10 GHz channel spacing are used to shape (line-by-line) two different waveforms from the output of a 10-mode x 10 GHz optical frequency comb generator. Characterization of the time multiplexer's complex transfer function (amplitude and phase) by frequency-resolved optical gating permits compensation of its impact on the switched waveforms and matching of the measured and target waveforms to better than G'=5%.  相似文献

We propose a device to compensate for group-velocity mismatch (GVM) effects that limit the efficiency-bandwidth product in nonlinear frequency-mixing devices. Integrated wavelength-dependent delay lines are introduced periodically in a waveguide containing a series of quasi-phase-matching (QPM) gratings. Appropriate choice of the time delays can compensate for GVM. We have demonstrated a two-stage device in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide. Two approximately 150-fs-long pulses generated 6 ps apart by second-harmonic generation in two QPM gratings were resynchronized by a fixed delay line, and their relative phase was fine controlled by temperature tuning. This technique, which can be iterated to more than two segments, permits optical frequency mixers with a higher efficiency-bandwidth product than would be possible in a single grating short enough to avoid GVM effects.  相似文献

We report an experimental demonstration of the induction synchrotron, the concept of which has been proposed as a future accelerator for the second generation of neutrino factory or hadron collider. The induction synchrotron supports a superbunch and a superbunch permits more charge to be accelerated while observing the constraints of the transverse space-charge limit. By using a newly developed induction acceleration system instead of radio-wave acceleration devices, a single proton bunch injected from the 500 MeV booster ring and captured by the barrier bucket created by the induction step voltages was accelerated to 6 GeV in the KEK proton synchrotron.  相似文献

We have achieved efficient simultaneous intracavity doubling of the signal frequency and sum-frequency generation between the signal and the pump in a periodically poled LiNbO(3) femtosecond optical parametric oscillator pumped by a Ti:sapphire laser. The responsible mechanisms are second-, third-, and fourth-order quasi-phase matching (QPM). An ~56% poling duty cycle permits efficient even-order QPM. Femtosecond pulses tunable in the visible were generated with a total efficiency of more than 8% for only 480-mW pump power at 80 MHz. Optimization of the poling duty cycle can improve the efficiency further.  相似文献

We describe the design and implementation of a light efficient binary phase-only diffraction optical element which converts a laser beam into an annular ring with the loss of less than 25% of the overall power. The use of annular illumination permits us to obtain an increase in the axial extent of the point spread function of a microscope objective without compromising the lateral resolution. The light efficiency of the system permitted two photon fluorescence images with extended depth of field to be obtained. The combination of two such extended depth of field images obtained at different parallaxes allowed the generation of high resolution two photon stereo pairs.  相似文献
