This paper is concerned with realizations of the irreducible representations of the orthogonal group and construction of specific bases for the representation spaces. As is well known, Weyl's branching theorem for the orthogonal group provides a labeling for such bases, called Gelfand-Žetlin labels. However, it is a difficult problem to realize these representations in a way that gives explicit orthogonal bases indexed by these Gelfand-–etlin labels. Thus, in this paper the irreducible representations of the orthogonal group are realized in spaces of polynomial functions over the general linear groups and equipped with an invariant differentiation inner product, and the Gelfand-Žetlin bases in these spaces are constructed explicitly. The algorithm for computing these polynomial bases is illustrated by a number of examples. Partially supported by a grant from the Department of Energy. Let $G_M$ be either the orthogonal group $O_M$ or the symplectic group $Sp_M$ over the complex field; in the latter case the non-negative integer $M$ has to be even. Classically, the irreducible polynomial representations of the group $G_M$ are labeled by partitions $\mu=(\mu_{1},\mu_{2},\,\ldots)$ such that $\mu^{\prime}_1+\mu^{\prime}_2\le M$ in the case $G_M=O_M$, or $2\mu^{\prime}_1\le M$ in the case $G_M=Sp_M$. Here $\mu^{\prime}=(\mu^{\prime}_{1},\mu^{\prime}_{2},\,\ldots)$ is the partition conjugate to $\mu$. Let $W_\mu$ be the irreducible polynomial representation of the group $G_M$ corresponding to $\mu$. Regard $G_N\times G_M$ as a subgroup of $G_{N+M}$. Then take any irreducible polynomial representation $W_\lambda$ of the group $G_{N+M}$. The vector space $W_{\lambda}(\mu)={\rm Hom}_{\,G_M}( W_\mu, W_\lambda)$ comes with a natural action of the group $G_N$. Put $n=\lambda_1-\mu_1+\lambda_2-\mu_2+\ldots\,$. In this article, for any standard Young tableau $\varOmega$ of skew shape $\lm$ we give a realization of $W_{\lambda}(\mu)$ as a subspace in the $n$-fold tensor product $(\mathbb{C}^N)^{\bigotimes n}$, compatible with the action of the group $G_N$. This subspace is determined as the image of a certain linear operator $F_\varOmega (M)$ on $(\mathbb{C}^N)^{\bigotimes n}$, given by an explicit formula. When $M=0$ and $W_{\lambda}(\mu)=W_\lambda$ is an irreducible representation of the group $G_N$, we recover the classical realization of $W_\lambda$ as a subspace in the space of all traceless tensors in $(\mathbb{C}^N)^{\bigotimes n}$. Then the operator $F_\varOmega\(0)$ may be regarded as the analogue for $G_N$ of the Young symmetrizer, corresponding to the standard tableau $\varOmega$ of shape $\lambda$. This symmetrizer is a certain linear operator on $\CNn$$(\mathbb{C}^N)^{\bigotimes n} $ with the image equivalent to the irreducible polynomial representation of the complex general linear group $GL_N$, corresponding to the partition $\lambda$. Even in the case $M=0$, our formula for the operator $F_\varOmega(M)$ is new. Our results are applications of the representation theory of the twisted Yangian, corresponding to the subgroup $G_N$ of $GL_N$. This twisted Yangian is a certain one-sided coideal subalgebra of the Yangian corresponding to $GL_N$. In particular, $F_\varOmega(M)$ is an intertwining operator between certain representations of the twisted Yangian in $(\mathbb{C}^N)^{\bigotimes n}$.  相似文献

Let VI be the category whose objects are the finite dimensional vector spaces over a finite field of order q and whose morphisms are the injective linear maps. A VI-module over a ring is a functor from the category VI to the category of modules over the ring. A VI-module gives rise to a sequence of representations of the finite general linear groups. We prove that the sequence obtained from any finitely generated VI-module over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero is representation stable - in particular, the multiplicities which appear in the irreducible decompositions eventually stabilize. We deduce as a consequence that the dimension of the representations in the sequence {V n } obtained from a finitely generated VI-module V over a field of characteristic zero is eventually a polynomial in q n . Our results are analogs of corresponding results on representation stability and polynomial growth of dimension for FI-modules (which give rise to sequences of representations of the symmetric groups) proved by Church, Ellenberg, and Farb.  相似文献

We describe an efficient method for the computer evaluation of the ordinary irreducible polynomial representations of general linear groups using an integral form of the ordinary irreducible representations of symmetric groups. In order to do this, we first give an algebraic explanation of D. E. Littlewood's modification of I. Schur's construction. Then we derive a formula for the entries of the representing matrices which is much more concise and adapted to the effective use of computer calculations. Finally, we describe how one obtains — using this time an orthogonal form of the ordinary irreducible representations of symmetric groups — a version which yields a unitary representation when it is restricted to the unitary subgroup. In this way we adapt D. B. Hunter's results which heavily rely on Littlewood's methods, and boson polynomials come into the play so that we also meet the needs of applications to physics.  相似文献

Extensions of the multidimensional Heisenberg group by one‐parameter groups of matrix dilations are introduced and classified up to isomorphism. Each group is isomorphic to both, a subgroup of the symplectic group and a subgroup of the affine group, and its metaplectic representation splits into two irreducible subrepresentations, each of which is equivalent to a subrepresentation of the wavelet representation.  相似文献

LetG be a (not necessarily connected) real Lie group with reductive Lie algebra. We consider representations ofG which some call admissible but we call them of Harish-Chandra type. We show that any nontempered irreducible Harish-Chandra type representation ofG is infinitesimally equivalent to the Langlands quotient obtained from an essentially unique triple (M, V, ) of Langlands data; while for tempered irreducible Harish-Chandra type representations we prove they are infinitesimally subrepresentations of some induced representations UV, with imaginary and withV from the quasi-discrete series of a suitableM (perhapsG=M; we define the quasi-discrete series in Definition 4.5 of this paper. We show that irreducible continuous unitary representations of really reductive groups are of Harish-Chandra type. Then the results above yield the canonical decomposition of the unitary spectrum>G for any really reductiveG. In particular, this holds ifG/G 0 is finite, so the center of the connected semi-simple subgroup with Lie algebra [g, g] may be infinite!Research supported, in part, by the Hungarian National Fund for Scientific Research (grant Nos. 1900 and 2648).  相似文献

The decomposition of unitary representations of a discrete group obtained by induction from a subgroup involves commensurators. In particular Mackey has shown that quasi-regular representations are irreducible if and only if the corresponding subgroups are self-commensurizing. The purpose of this work is to describe general constructions of pairs of groups Γ0 with Γ its own commensurator in Γ. These constructions are then applied to groups of isometries of hyperbolic spaces and to lattices in algebraic groups.  相似文献

A contraction of the sphere , considered as the homogeneous space , to the Heisenberg group is defined. The infinite dimensional irreducible unitary representations of Heisenberg group are then shown to be the limits of the irreducible representations of which are class-1 with respect to . Let be an irreducible real reductive dual pair of type I in stable range, with G the smaller member. In this note, we prove that all irreducible genuine representations of occur in the Howe correspondence. The proof uses structural information about the groups forming a reductive dual pair and estimates of matrix coefficients.  相似文献

We study irreducible representations of two classes of conformal Galilei algebras in 1-spatial dimension. We construct a functor which transforms simple modules with nonzero central charge over the Heisenberg subalgebra into simple modules over the conformal Galilei algebras. This can be viewed as an analogue of oscillator representations. We use oscillator representations to describe the structure of simple highest weight modules over conformal Galilei algebras. We classify simple weight modules with finite dimensional weight spaces over finite dimensional Heisenberg algebras and use this classification and properties of oscillator representations to classify simple weight modules with finite dimensional weight spaces over conformal Galilei algebras.  相似文献

Representations of groups of loops in U(N), SO(N) and various subgroups are studied. The representations are defined on fermion Fock spaces, and may be regarded as local gauge groups in the context of the two-dimensional many-particle Dirac theory for charged or neutral particles with rest mass m0. For m=0, the representations are shown to give rise to type I factors, while for m>0 hyperfinite, type III1 factors arise. A key point in the structure analysis is a convergence result: We prove that suitably rescaled representers of certain nonzero winding number loops converge to the free Dirac fields. We also present applications to cyclicity and irreducibility questions concerning the Dirac currents, and to the representation theory of a class of Kac-Moody Lie algebras.  相似文献

This paper is a survey on classical Heisenberg groups and algebras, q-deformed Heisenberg algebras, q-oscillator algebras, their representations and applications. Describing them, we tried, for the reader's convenience, to explain where the q-deformed case is close to the classical one, and where there are principal differences. Different realizations of classical Heisenberg groups, their geometrical aspects, and their representations are given. Moreover, relations of Heisenberg groups to other linear groups are described. Intertwining operators for different (Schrödinger, Fock, compact) realizations of unitary irreducible representations of Heisenberg groups are given in explicit form. Classification of irreducible representations and representations of the q-oscillator algebra is derived for the cases when q is not a root of unity and when q is a root of unity. The Fock representation of the q-oscillator algebra is studied in detail. In particular, q-coherent states are described. Spectral properties of some operators of the Fock representations of q-oscillator algebras are given. Some of applications of Heisenberg groups and algebras, q-Heisenberg algebras and q-oscillator algebras are briefly described.  相似文献

This paper deals with representations of groups by "affine" automorphisms of compact, convex spaces, with special focus on "irreducible" representations: equivalently"minimal" actions. When the group in question is P SL(2, R), the authors exhibit a oneone correspondence between bounded harmonic functions on the upper half-plane and a certain class of irreducible representations. This analysis shows that, surprisingly, all these representations are equivalent. In fact, it is found that all irreducible affine representations of this group are equivalent. The key to this is a property called "linear Stone-Weierstrass"for group actions on compact spaces. If it holds for the "universal strongly proximal space"of the group(to be defined), then the induced action on the space of probability measures on this space is the unique irreducible affine representation of the group.  相似文献

To each irreducible infinite dimensional representation $(\pi ,\mathcal {H})$ of a C*‐algebra $\mathcal {A}$, we associate a collection of irreducible norm‐continuous unitary representations $\pi _{\lambda }^\mathcal {A}$ of its unitary group ${\rm U}(\mathcal {A})$, whose equivalence classes are parameterized by highest weights in the same way as the irreducible bounded unitary representations of the group ${\rm U}_\infty (\mathcal {H}) = {\rm U}(\mathcal {H}) \cap (\mathbf {1} + K(\mathcal {H}))$ are. These are precisely the representations arising in the decomposition of the tensor products $\mathcal {H}^{\otimes n} \otimes (\mathcal {H}^*)^{\otimes m}$ under ${\rm U}(\mathcal {A})$. We show that these representations can be realized by sections of holomorphic line bundles over homogeneous Kähler manifolds on which ${\rm U}(\mathcal {A})$ acts transitively and that the corresponding norm‐closed momentum sets $I_{\pi _\lambda ^\mathcal {A}}^{\bf n} \subseteq {\mathfrak u}(\mathcal {A})^{\prime }$ distinguish inequivalent representations of this type.  相似文献

We study the complex irreducible representations of special linear, symplectic, orthogonal, and unitary groups over principal ideal local rings of length two. We construct a canonical correspondence between the irreducible representations of all such groups that preserves dimensions. The case for general linear groups has already been proved by the author.  相似文献

The notion of globally irreducible representations of finite groups has been introduced by B. H. Gross, in order to explain new series of Euclidean lattices discovered recently by N. Elkies and T. Shioda using Mordell--Weil lattices of elliptic curves. In this paper we first give a necessary condition for global irreducibility. Then we classify all globally irreducible representations of L 2(q) and 2B2(q), and of the majority of the 26 sporadic finite simple groups. We also exhibit one more globally irreducible representation, which is related to the Weil representation of degree (pn-1)/2 of the symplectic group Sp2n(p) (p 1 (mod 4) is a prime). As a consequence, we get a new series of even unimodular lattices of rank 2(pn–1). A summary of currently known globally irreducible representations is given.  相似文献
